"Don't be talking back just do what I say!"
"I did!"
"And you still talking back!"

"Go do it!"
I went upstairs and put the clothes in the dryer like she'd been yelling about for the past hour. I then went to get the other basket of clothes and put those in the washer, after doing that she called me back downstairs.
"Didn't I ask you to mop the floor?"
"Yeah But I had to"
"Why do I have to do everything?
I come home from work the least you can do is clean up."
"But mom I had homework-"
"I don't care, you're old enough to juggle school and your chores at home. Always got your hand out for money but can't do nothing-"
"Alright, Mom I got it!"
"Girl say one more thing!"
She fussed at me and I just stayed quiet.
"Mama! I'm here!"
My sister Nikki said coming in the door.
"Hey, baby!"
Mama said smiling and hugging Nikki,
I just went to the cleaning supply closet and got the mop.
"Come sit Nikki, I don't want you standing up for too long. I need you to relax as much as you can since you carrying my grandbaby."
"Ma I'm only 5 weeks"
"So? I still need you to sit down and leave it to me. So when is your due date? I'm gonna make sure I clear my schedule a week before you have this baby and 2 months after cause I'm gonna help you out when you have them."
"Ma you don't have to do that"
"I sure do."
"Ma"
Nikki laughed then I came back in the kitchen.
"Hey Little Sis"
"Hey"
I said drily and rolled my eyes at Mom.
"What are you doing?"
Mom said and I looked at her them the mop.
"I'm about to mop the floor"
"I said to sweep it and mop it!"
"No, you didn't you said to"
"I know what I said! Why would I tell you to mop it- Even if I did say mop it Aniah you should have common sense to still sweep the floor first."
"I'll do it Aniah 'cause you're giving me a headache!"
"Ma I think your phone rang"
"Yeah I hear it too, I'll be back"
She went upstairs and I sighed going to get the broom.
"Anyways, What's going on with you?"
Nikki said...
"Nothing"
"Girl, I know something is wrong with ya...
Is mom getting to you?"
"Yea...."
"Girl don't let her get to you, she's just being mom"
"Was she always like this?"
"What? Fussy? Always"
"She's just mean and acts like she doesn't care"
"Girl, you know that's mom but she's just tired-"
"She's not tired Nikki! She acts like that all the time and I'm tired of everyone saying she's just tired or she's stressed. She treats me like that cause she hates me"
"Aniah now don't say that, okay?
mama loves you and-"
"Loves me? If she loved me she'd be home more and act like a mother"
"Aniah-"
"What?!"
I said on the verge of tears and shaking...
"All she does is work! I don't ever see her it's like I'm invisible to her Nikki and when she is home she's still busy doing work or she's tired of spending time with her daughter.
It's out of my face and all she has to say is negative things to me. It's like I'm just everything she hates just in one person..."
"That's not true, Mommy is just-"
"Just what? Stressed? Depressed? Exhausted?
To Busy? Which one cause I heard it all before...Sometimes I question does she loves me"
"A, stop! You know she loves you"
"She doesn't act like it"
"A, from what I see Mommy loves you.
Does she show it weirdly? Yes but she loves you, I've been around the longest out of you, and Jay and Mommy's love is tough...
but I promise you she loves you with every breath she's got in her body. You know the divorce on her was tough then losing Nana was tough.... Mommy just lost her way and she's trying to cover it up with working but she can't do that forever"
"So I'm supposed to just excuse her because-"
"Just give her some Grace"
"Grace?"
"Yes have some empathy for her-"
"Mh"
"I'm serious Aniah"
"Okay whatever lemme get back to cleaning"
"Aniah-"
"Forget it. You always take up for Mama so there's no point of even talking to you."
"Aniah stop okay?! You know I'm for you always but at the end of the day mommy and I have been ride or die since I was a kid-"
"Okay then so since all so close and all you wanna do is defend her
then stop talking to me-"
"What is the attitude for?"
"I don't have one Nikki-"
"Yes you do-"
"Just leave me alone."
I walked away and left her in the kitchen...
|Later that night|
I sat in my bathroom and cried while I was in the tub, I felt empty.
Nobody wanted to listen to me,
I didn't have anyone to talk to,
I felt like a burden on everyone.
It didn't matter and I just wish I could end it all. I looked down at the water that was slowly turning red from the cut on my forearm and I just kept crying.
No pain could beat the pain I felt on the inside, it felt eternal...
