Night fell over the busy streets of Jump City. Cars were honking, teens were running around causing mischief, and adults were dressing up for whatever it was they had planned for the evening. On the roof of one of the large buildings stood a teenager wearing her usual black and white outfit. She was about to glance at the watch on her wrist when who she was expecting jumped down onto the roof.
"You're early, Nightshade." The low voice of the man in front of her said. "Let's make this quick, Slade." Night said as she placed her hands on her hips. "Have somewhere better to be?" Slade asked with a raised brow behind his mask. "Actually, yes. Yes I do." Night said before looking at her watch. "I am precisely 30 minutes late to fucking your mom. Can we get on with this?" She said with a monotone voice before gesturing towards the large metal case in Slade's hands.
"If you wouldn't mind, I'd like my information first." Slade said as he glared at the girl behind his mask. Night rolled her eyes before crossing her arms over her chest. "That's not how this works, Slade. You wanna play my game, you have to follow my rules. Now would you be so kind as to hand it over?" Night asked holding her hand out still waiting for the metal case to be placed in her hand. "Who said we were playing your game?" Slade asked making Night roll her eyes before pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Dude...it is seriously not the day and I am definitely not the bitch." Night said before glaring up at Slade. "I know about four different people that could have done what I've asked of you. You wanted information about people that you haven't been able to get." Night stated while Slade glared at her. "Your end of the deal was just...how do I put this...convenient for me. Now hand it over." Night said to the man. Her eyes filled with nothing but boredom and annoyance.
The man in front of Night continued to glare at her as he handed over the case. Night's previously annoyed state almost instantly vanished as a giddy smile was plaster underneath her mask. Her eyes sparkled as salmon roses bloomed in her hair deep inside her hood and under her mask. Night quickly unlatched the top of the case and peered inside. Her once excited smile turned into a pout as she looked at the contents in the case.
"Did you even listen to a thing that I asked of you?" Night's voice came out harsher and deeper as she raised a brow at the man standing across from her. "That is rather insulting don't you think?" Slade asked as his voice deepened. "While I don't doubt the technological aspects, the design itself is what I'm referring to." Night said as she stared down at the contents inside the case. Her eyes continued to scan the inside of the case before a defeated sigh left her mouth.
"I'll accept these, but seeing as I have to make a few changes to them myself, you'll only be receiving some of what I've gathered." "That wasn't part of our deal." Slade said as he tried to control his anger. "Yeah, well maybe you should have paid more attention to what I wanted." Night said with a shrug of her shoulders before locking the case back up.
"She's making her way towards Jump City. I suggest you prepare yourself for her. She seems to be quite the handful. She'll probably be in the city in about two days...three if she rests longer than normal." Night said as she held the case by her side. "And the other one?" Slade asked only for Night to let out a small scoff.
"You didn't listen to my requests. Not to mention, I happen to have become acquaintances with Miss Persephone Bloom. With my new found...what's the word...admiration for the girl, I'll need something even bigger and better in exchange." Night said and Slade was able to make out the smirk coming from under her mask.
"I did not take you as someone that could be so cunning. I rather hate to admit it, but I might've earned a small amount of respect for you, Nightshade." Slade said as he thought about Night's morals. "How about we try this again next week? Bring me information, some sort of gadget I'd like, or a decent amount of money and I might be able to recall a thing or two about her. What do you say?" Night asked holding her free hand out for him to shake.
A few days later on the outskirts of Jump City, a girl with bright blonde hair was running through the desert with a giant scorpion chasing her. She panted as she continued to run through the canyon. The beast attacked with its stinger sending the girl crashing to the ground. Her butterfly hair clip falling to the hard ground in the process. She was about to grab it when the scorpion attacked once more.
The girl ran and ran before reaching a dead end. Her back was pressed against the wall as the scorpion approached her. A figure in red and green caught the monster's attention from on top of the canyon walls. A second later, the rest of the Teen Titans appeared.
"Titans, go!" Robin yelled to his team. The group was about to help when the blonde's eyes started glowing yellow and the ground started to shake.
A figure a good ways away stood leaning against one of the rock formations. One hand kept her hood in place while the other was placed in her pocket. Her (e/c) eyes never leaving the blonde as she crossed one leg over the other. A slight smirk hiding beneath her black mask as she waited for the show to begin.
The Titans all watched surprised as a large rock that had been laid over the canyon rose into the air. The blonde beneath them let out a battle cry as her arms raised up as she controlled the rock. Her arms swung down making the rock fall right on top of the large scorpion killing it. The blonde had a proud smile on her face as she used her right hand to put her hair behind her ear.
"She was not in trouble." Starfire said in disbelief. "She was leading it into a trap." Cyborg added. "The question is-" Robin started to say only to be cut off by Beast Boy. "Who is she?" The titans questioned as they stared down at the girl.
The familiar figure of Nightshade instantly caught Robin's attention. The two ended up locking eyes. Nightshade shifted slightly uncomfortable from seeing the hero. It had been a couple weeks since they'd last seen each other.
Robin sent her a bright smile as he stared at Nightshade. A small blush covering his cheeks as he remembered the last time they'd been together. He sent her a slight nod of acknowledgment and she sent one back. With her being there, he knew he could possibly get some information about the girl who could control the rocks.
In one of the cracks of the large rock formations a figure peered out. The man stared down at the Teen Titans and the blonde. "Don't get too attached, my young friend. I saw her first." Slade said to himself. The only one that noticed him was Nightshade. Her eyes hardened at the sight of the man before glancing back down at the blonde girl.
The blonde had made rocks form underneath herself as they rose her up to meet the Titans. She jumped onto the ledge they were on as she gave them a bright smile.
"What? Haven't you guys ever seen a superhero before?" The blonde asked the group as they stared at her in shock. "I'm Robin. We're the-" Robin held his hand out for her to shake, but she had other plans. "The Teen Titans!" She finished as she fist bumped him excitedly.
"Rock on! It's cool to meet you guys. I'm Terra, and you're Cyborg, Raven, Starfire, and-" Terra said as she pointed to each member before getting to Beast boy. The green teenager panicked as Terra's gaze met his.
"Boy Beast! I-I mean, Bass Boot, no!" "Beast Boy?" Terra asked with a soft smile while Beast Boy let out a yell before turning into a turtle. Terra let out a laugh at his antics which surprised the group.
"Dude, he's hilarious!" Terra said with a laugh. "Hilarious? Me? Really?" With that Beast Boy was blushing like an idiot while hearts filled his eyes. Cyborg tried to keep him from falling over, but he wasn't fast enough.
Starfire approached the new super being next. "Curiosity abounds. Please, where do you come from? How did you get here? What is your favorite color? Do you wish to be my friend?" Starfire asked quickly. Nightshade was able to hear the girls rambling from where she was standing. She couldn't help but let out a slight giggle at her friends antics.
"Uh, Earth, walked, red, and sure!" Terra said answering all of the princess' questions. Starfire was quickly overjoyed by Terra's answer as she pulled her into a bone crushing hug. "Hello, new friend!" The alien princess cheered.
Terra straightened out her arms while the group stared at her. "So, what brings such a cool little chicky to our big groovy city, huh?" Beast Boy asked as a blush covered his cheeks. "I go where the wind takes me, you know? I get to see new places, meet new people, stomp a few bad guys here and there." Terra answered. "Oh, cool!" Beast said with a shy smile. "Fascinating!" "Well alright!"
Robin was the only one who looked at Terra with concern. Night knew that look all too well. It's the look Robin seemed to always give her when they'd first met. "You mean, you don't have a home?" Robin asked.
"The Earth is my home. I've been crashing in a cave on the other side of the hill." Terra explained as she gestured over to where she'd been sleeping. "Unacceptable! I cannot permit my new friend to slumber in a lonely cave of darkness." Starfire said while Terra gave her a confused look. "I have a flashlight." She said before started to get pulled towards the T tower by Starfire.
"You will stay with us." Starfire demanded. "Really, I-I'm-" "Come on. We got plenty of room!" Cyborg said as he helped push Terra. "Yeah! And I can make you laugh some more. I'm hilarious, remember?" Beast Boy said. Night couldn't help but roll her eyes at the teen. To her, he looked like an excited puppy.
"Well, I guess I could stay one night." Terra agreed and the three Titans cheered. The three dragged her along happily while the other two Titans stayed behind. Robin was staring down at the canyon while Raven glanced over her shoulder at him.
"Everything okay?" Raven asked only then catching sight of Nightshade. Even Raven knew that if she was there it was probably something important. "I'm not sure." Robin said as he held some dirt between his gloved fingers. His eyes glancing up towards Nightshade. "Something just doesn't feel right." He said before standing up off the ground.
Robin sent Night another nod and soft smile. The strange feeling not leaving his gut as he went to follow the others back to Titan Tower. Nightshade watched the group retreat before glancing at where she'd seen Slade hiding. He was long gone, but she knew he'd be back.
A few hours had gone by since Nightshade had seen Terra arrive to the city. She wondered if leaving the group with her was wrong, but she knew the group was stronger than they looked. And the girl herself would be protected by the team.
Night leaned against the small window of the dorm room that belonged to H.I.V.E. Academy. "How did someone like you get their hands on technology like this?" The genius kid in all green asked Night. "Doesn't matter, Gizmo. Just tell me if you find any trackers or bugs or anything that could possibly endanger me, would you?" Night said with sarcasm.
"Yeah, yeah, I know the drill, buttmuncher." Gizmo said as he continued to look over what Night had brought with her. Night couldn't help glancing at her watch. This whole process was taking a lot longer than she'd like.
"How much longer is this going to take?" Night asked with a groan while Gizmo smirked. "You do know I'm still on the first one right?" What he said made the teen sigh. She was about to respond when her phone started ringing.
Night pulled the device from her pocket and stared at the lit up screen for a few seconds longer than she should have. "Just answer the phone already!" Gizmo yelled at the girl snapping her out of her shocked state.
"To what do I owe the pleasure, Wonder Boy?" Night said making Gizmo glance at her with a raised brow before getting back to work. "Make it quick, birdy. I'm a bit busy right now." Night said as she got more comfortable against the window.
"I think you know why I'm calling." Robin said rather quietly into the phone. He was in one of the many rooms of the tower far away from the others. He didn't want anyone hearing his conversation with his old friend.
"Hmm...maybe I do...maybe I don't." Night said with a slight smirk under her mask. "Why were you out there? N-not that I don't mind seeing you...but I know you weren't there just for us." Robin inwardly cursed himself for stuttering.
"You're not wrong. I was there on some other business." "And what was that?" "What's in it for me?" Night asked with a raised brow. "Pizza with the team?" Robin asked and Night couldn't help but laugh. "Just that? C'mon, you know I need a little something more." Night said in a teasing tone.
"COULD YOU STOP FLIRTING?! IM STILL IN EAR SHOT, SNOT RAGS!" Gizmo yelled making bright red roses appear under Night's mask. She quickly turned away from the kid to make sure he didn't see anything. Robin was able to hear Gizmo's yelling as well making his cheeks flush a similar bright red. Robin, however, gained his composure a lot faster than Night.
"Is that Gizmo? You hang out with Gizmo? Seriously?" Robin asked. There was a slight hint of anger in his voice, but it was mainly covered by a teasing tone. "N-no! I-It's not-ugh! Give me two seconds, will you?" Night said before covering her phone with her hand.
"You wanna see flirting, Gizmo? I can have Jinx in here faster than you can calibrate one of your inventions." "EW! Stop being gross! I didn't sign up for you being a weirdo!" "Well, I suggest you get back to work then. The sooner you're done, the sooner I can leave." Night said while Gizmo stuck his tongue out at her. Removing her hand, Night pressed the phone back up to her ear.
"Where were we?" Night asked and Robin couldn't help but smile at her now carefree tone compared to her previously threatening one. "I asked what you wanted." "Oh, right...hmm." Night thought for a moment.
"I'm actually in need of a few items." Robin was about to say something when Night cut him off. "Don't worry it's nothing illegal or dangerous." "What is it?" Robin asked not really believing her. "I need-" Night ended up being cut off by Gizmo.
"I got something." Gizmo said immediately grabbing Night's attention. "Listen, I gotta go. We can discuss your payment later." "(Y/n), wa-" Robin's voice was cut off as Night hung up the phone before walking over to Gizmo. "What is it?" She asked.
Gizmo used a pair of tweezers to show Nightshade a small device. "What's that? A tracker?" Night asked and Gizmo nodded. "That's not the only thing I found." Gizmo said making Night raise a brow. "The whole thing is covered in sensors, transmitters, and other stuff you're not gonna like. Whoever made these for you basically thinks you're an idiot, Nightshade." Gizmo couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "What I wouldn't give to see you mess up whoever made these." Night on the other hand was not laughing. She was glaring down at the devices as anger filled her system.
"Will they still work the way they were intended to?" Night asked and Gizmo smirked at her. "Duh...but I can make them twice as good...if you really want me to." "Fix them. Take every inch of them apart if you have to. Find every small little tracker and make sure you don't leave anything behind." Night said with malice in her voice for the man who made the devices.
"What do I get out of this?" Gizmo asked annoyed that more was being asked of him. "I'll buy any three video games you want, and you can be the first to play the next five arcade games I get." "Sold! You sure know how to bargain for a snot muncher!" Gizmo said as he laughed before getting back to work.
"I'll be back in a few days to check up on them and give you my design input. I'll also have you add a couple extra things on them." "A few days? I'm not an amateur! Come back tomorrow." "That's why you're the best, Gizmo!" "I know. I'm a technological wonder child." Gizmo said with a cocky smirk making Night roll her eyes with a light smile.
Night was about to make her leave out the window when another thought crossed her mind. "Oh, and Gizmo?" "What?" "Make sure you put all of those extra things on the side for me, will ya? I'm going to need them as evidence." Gizmo gave a sarcastic salute while his back was turned to her. With that, Nightshade left and went back to her apartment to rest.
