After helping The Devine Goddess save Danielle, Y/n was once more in good standings with The Devine Kingdom.
Haerin had even offered Y/n a place back in The Kingdom...
But Y/n refused.
- Y/N POV -
I didn't want to be here.
I had found myself in The Godly Kingdom...
Awaiting Danielle's and Haerin's wedding ceremony.
Godly marriage ceremonies were a bit different than humans. While humans held a feast and celebration after the actual matrimony...
Gods held a celebration first and then the ceremony, followed by an even bigger celebration right after.
"I don't even know why I'm here," I thought to myself as I caught sight of the happy couple greeting all the guests.
That was a lie.
I knew exactly why I had come.
The Goddess of Kindness had personally gone down to The Underworld to invite me...
And I couldn't disappoint her after she made such an effort to make sure I attended.
I stood in a corner of The Kingdom, patiently waiting for the ceremony to start. I watched as everyone ate, drank, laughed, and celebrated.
Things were not as I had expected.
I felt at ease.
Until.....
The happy couple and I locked eyes.
It was tense for a second...
"Y/N!!" Danielle suddenly exclaimed and ran up to me with a loving smile.
I watched as my little sister was left behind to hold back her jealousy.
I noticed Danielle coming in for a hug and I quickly extended my hand out to stop her.
My small gesture seemed to calm Haerin down and she finally stepped up to greet me too.
"It's my wedding day and you're not going to hug me?!" Dani started to cutely whine.
My heart suddenly flustered and I held back the smile that was dying to come out.
I always found it adorable when Dani treated me like a long time friend.
"Thank you for coming," Haerin softly spoke up.
I nodded in response as the pain of it all started to seep in.
"Yes, thank you for coming!" Dani giggled out as she wrapped her arm around Haerin's waist and leaned their heads together.
Haerin seemed to really soften up and shyly smiled at Dani.
The cute sight in front of me made my chest hurt.
The Devine Goddess and The Goddess of Kindness seemed extremely happy together.
It was the reason I had rejected the offer to return to The Godly Kingdom.
I was sparing everyone's feelings...
Including my own.
- Dani POV -
I could see the sadness in Y/n's eyes.
I had told myself that it would be okay if Y/n came to the wedding. I had even convinced Haerin that everything would be okay...
But I had made a mistake.
"Why would we invite Y/n? Y/n is still in love with you!!" Haerin yelled in response to my request to invite Y/n to our wedding.
"Don't scream," I coldly responded.
"Y/n isn't love with me and I find it quite rude that you wouldn't invite your own sibling to your wedding," I crossed my arms a little disappointed.
"What's so rude about it?" Haerin sighed in response.
"Y/n helped you save my life. Are you really so fragile that you'd let your insecurities get in the way of what's supposed to be the happiest day of our life?" I took a deep breath as I walked up to comfort Haerin.
Haerin just sighed and shook her head as I pulled her into a hug.
Haerin had always been jealous of Y/n.
Y/n was much more vocal and stronger than her, but Y/n was also older so it just made sense.
Haerin had watched as Y/n and I got close.
Everyone in The Kingdom had taken our relationship the wrong way, but we were just friends...
Even when we wanted to be more than friends...
Neither of us could really bring ourselves to look pass the fact that we didn't belong together at all.
"Have you eaten?" Haerin suddenly asked Y/n.
Haerin's small gesture caused my heart to flutter.
For not wanting Y/n at our wedding, Haerin couldn't deny that she did have a soft spot for her older sibling.
"I didn't come here to eat," Y/n smugly responded to their little sister.
"Are you sure? The steaks are so nice and juicy," Haerin offered.
"I prefer my meat charred," Y/n coldly responded.
"Psychopath," Haerin rolled her eyes before walking away.
"Brat," Y/n mumbled before walking off in the opposite direction.
I watched as the two people I loved the most just walked away from me.
Before, I found it adorable when I saw Y/n and Haerin fighting like all siblings do...
But now...
I knew the fighting wasn't just a sibling rivalry.
Now, I was the reason that they were fighting.
- Y/N POV -
I tried to hold out a little longer.
I just had to get through the day, congratulate the happy couple on their marriage, and never have to see them again.
I just had to hold on a little longer...
But it was a bit too unbearable.
I did my best to avoid both Danielle and Haerin for the rest of the day.
I didn't realize it would hurt this much.
Eventually...,
Something happened that caused me to leave.
"AAARRRGHHHH!!!" I screamed in frustration as I threw a ball of fire at my throne.
"What's wrong, Master?" One of my little demons suddenly asked.
I shook my head unable to respond.
I watched as my throne engulfed in flames and burn to ashes.... just to restore itself back together moments after..
"I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS ANYMORE!!" I screamed in agony.
A thunderstorm suddenly filled the skies of The Underworld...
But I knew it wasn't just in my world...
It was happening all over the galaxy.
"What's happening?!" My little demons started to freak out and I couldn't do anything but drop to my knees and cry.
The thunderstorm trembled throughout the galaxy for about an hour.
I had ordered all the demons to retreat to their quarters and prepare for a godly burial.
Meanwhile, I waited for the moment to come.
The moment I had never thought would come.
The last lightning of the storm struck The Underworld and the whole galaxy turned pitch black.
It didn't take long before I found an upset Dani standing in front of me.
"You knew," Danielle clenched her fists tightly as I saw her tears hit the floor.
"YOU KNEW AND YOU DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING??!?!" The Goddess of Kindness didn't seem so kind anymore.
I don't think anyone would feel anything but rage and sorrow...
when the love of their life died moments before their wedding ceremony.
"I saw you, you had your vision moments before leaving. Why didn't you say anything?" Dani started to take deep breaths to control herself.
"ANSWER MEE!!" She screamed when I gave her no response.
"It's against the rules," I mumbled.
"WHAT?!?" Danielle suddenly grabbed me by my shirt.
"I HAVE ALWAYS PROTECTED YOU, LOVED YOU, SHOWN YOU NOTHING BUT KINDNESS... BUT THIS IS HOW YOU REPAY ME!!!" Dani continued to scream.
I just watched helplessly.
I knew I couldn't do anything to help her.
*BOOOM*
"Humm, humm, hummm," All the demons started to chant as they exited their quarters in their funeral cloaks.
"Humm, humm," The demons kept chanting as the The Grave Sea started to glow.
Millions of demons started to surround the sea.
I could feel Danielle's grip on me start to loosen. She was too distracted by the scene unfolding in front of her.
I grabbed my funeral robes and then made my way down to The Grave Sea.
"What's going on?!" Dani suddenly followed after me.
I didn't answer.
Suddenly, Danielle grabbed my wrist and pulled me back to face her.
"Answer me," Dani sniffled.
I took a deep breath and finally gave in.
"Gods have no heaven or hell. The only way to put their souls at ease is to perform a prayer," I answered.
"Prayer?" Dani asked.
"MASTER, ITS TIME!" The head of the demons yelled.
I shook off all the uneasy feeling I felt and rush over to put my sister at peace.
"Y/N!!!" Danielle yelled.
I had no time to spare of Dani.
The Grave Sea was at its brightest glow and Haerin's soul was starting to sink into the sea.
"Humm, humm, humm!" The demons started to get louder as I dropped to my knees and started to pray.
"HAERIN!!" Dani suddenly cried out.
I just ignored her and kept on praying.
The Devine Goddess's soul was starting to rise from the sea...
"OH MY GOD, HAERIN!!" Danielle suddenly rushed over to sea.
"Stop her," I coldly ordered before Danielle could get herself killed.
It was easy to mistake a soul rising from The Grave Sea for a real being.
It was specially easy to make that mistake when you're grieving.
"NOOO!!!" I could hear Dani's painful screeches as she got dragged away.
I continued to pray for my sisters soul.
The prayer ceremony did not only ensure a peaceful soul but it made an imprinted of the deceased to be kept as a memory forever.
Most souls would eventually be forgotten...
I didn't want that same fate for my sister.
"HAERIN!!" Dani suddenly broke free from her restraints and ran towards the see.
"NOOOO!!!" I panicked as I barely managed to stop Danielle from entirely The Grave Sea.
It was called The Grave Sea for a reason.
One step into it and you'd turn into another nameless grave.
"I CAN SAVE HER!! LET ME GO!!" Dani started to kick her feet and bang her fists against my chest.
"I CAN'T LET YOU DO THAT!!! I'M NOT LOSING YOU TOO!!!" I screamed in frustration.
"LET GOO!!" Dani suddenly unleashed her wind powers and knocked me off my feet.
I watched as Danielle ran to the sea for the nth time and this time...
I just let her.
"Fine.... but if you do this... you'll die....," I mumbled as I got up from the floor.
Dani suddenly stopped in her tracks and responded, "What else am I supposed to do?"
"I don't know. Not die. Don't be stupid. She's gone!" I responded in frustration.
"Tell me something?" Dani suddenly turned to look at me.
Her eyes were puffy and her nose was red. She looks defeated but she didn't look scared.
"Would you burn your own kingdom for me?" Danielle asked.
My heart suddenly stopped and my eyes started to fill with tears.
"Of course, I would...," My voice cracked as I struggled to answer her.
Danielle suddenly stepped up and cupped my face. "Just like you'd burn millions of galaxies, worlds, and kingdoms... including yours... just for me. I would give my life for Haerin and so much more," she whispered.
"So, please. This is your world... your rules... please... let me save her," She begged.
Tears were falling down my eyes and I started realize what was about to happen. I bit my lip as my whole body trembled.
The only way a soul could be brought back to life was to sacrifice another....
And I couldn't let Dani sacrifice her's.
I couldn't allow for the world to become unbalanced by a death that was never meant to occur.
"Okay," I gave in to Dani's request.
"Go on," I whispered.
The Goddess in front of me nodded and turned back to step into the sea.
I used all my strength to freeze the sea and watched as Danielle stepped closer and closer to pull Haerin's soul down.
"F-fuck!" I whispered to myself as I felt my body start to weaken.
I could see Haerin's body start to materialize again and Danielle finally managed to get a hold of my little sister.
"Fuck," I silently cried out as I felt the life being sucked out of me.
My insides were burning, I could barely see anymore, and I started to gasp for air.
I couldn't hold The Grave Sea in its frozen state much longer.
Luckily, Danielle had managed to get Haerin out of the sea and placed her down on the shore.
The Devine Goddess suddenly started to gasp...
And while she took her first breath...
I took my last.
