"What trade-off?" Ciel Phantomhive was currently on business with another despicable individual. Unlike all the people he does business with (Y/n) (L/n) here was not as disguising as the others. Though he has been rather annoying when it comes to nitpicking the details. They have adjusted the contract over 50+ times over a month. Ciel could only be glad Sebastian made those recent changes fast.
"Your butler there, he could be quite of use for me to teach my servants to be of use. Only a week. I don't think you'll die within that day hmm? Considering all your... 'Servants' around you."
Ciel looks at (Y/n) like he was crazy, but then looking back down on the contract he has it was quite valid. Seeing the other's eye glow slightly Ciel didn't realize the contract mark was glowing as well, he could only feel the pressure the other was putting him. The other man was smiling, he seemed quite the opposite of what he was feeling at the current moment.
"Perhaps I could be staying in your manner, instead while my servants get training?" (Y/n) offered to look at the butler beside Ciel once in a while, "Haha, I was kidding, I do not need to feel obligated to do anything for me, I'll take my leave, after all, I have already signed the papers.
Ciel seemed to have snapped back into reality but by then (Y/n) had already exited the room. There was a suffocating feeling in Ciel's chest, and (Y/n) could only be the source of that feeling. (Y/n) looks around the Phantomhive manor as he lingered just a little longer to look at the Japanese garden out the window. How he wishes to have someone as competent as Sebastian to be working for him. How bizarre...
(Y/n) continued to walk down the staircase, his hands on the railing gathering dust from the other people being unable to clean this part of the Manor in time. (Y/n) lifted his hand, seeing the dirty dust that had gathered on his white glove. He took it off before hearing a voice above.
"I do certainly apologize, I didn't anticipate you walking in this direction, well, the apology is still ours for being unable to prepare the manor for your welcome." Sebastian walked down the stairs with a clean cloth and held it up to (Y/n). The other raised his dirty gloveless hand and Sebastian got the hint and cleaned the perfectly smooth and delicate hands. Sebastian looks at (Y/n), he was off of the staircase while (Y/n) was on the last step. (Y/n) was a little shorter than him so they were on the same eye level now with the staircase.
(Y/n) looks at the hands of the butler, "I think that's enough isn't it?" His hands were quite clean from Sebastian cleaning them over and over. Between the fingers, even around the wrists, and underneath the fingernails. Sebastian moved his hands away and tucked away the white cloth into his pocket.
"Thank you," (Y/n) nods his head and walks past Sebastian. The next thing he knew Sebastian was presenting him with a pair of new high-quality gloves.
"I suppose Sir Phantomhive has made you tend to me until I leave?" (Y/n) joked as he accepted the gloves. "I should be the one giving gifts seeing how much trouble I have caused you. and Sir Phantomhive."
"Yes and no, I'm doing this out of my own free will. My Master merely asked me to join your manor for 3 days as he takes the time to think to himself. A temporary butler will be in place of me." Sebastian escorted (Y/n) to his carriage to ride back. Sebastian got on as well, sitting across from (Y/n) as the other seemed quite happy.
"Finally someone good will be able to teach them." (Y/n) pulled out a little snack from his pocket and started to snack on it. He looked out the carriage windows as they went inside the town.
"Stop here, I need to pick up a letter." (Y/n) said as Sebastian got off first to give him a hand. (Y/n), however, ignored that hand. He wasn't quite used to it. (Y/n) looked at the store owner as they greeted each other. Sebastian, however, looked rather distraught. (Y/n) got his mail and packages before going back on the carriage.
"Come on Sebastian, I fear my manor would be burnt down soon."
"Why would you hire such incompetent servants? Does your butler not even hold his hand out to catch you when getting off of the carriage?" (Y/n) glances at Sebastian after he finishes.
"I got used to it, It's quite all right..." (Y/n) said as he looked out the window.
"You do not deserve such uncaring treatment." Sebastian looks into (Y/n)'s eyes, uncaring, unconcerned, and carefree.
"It's quite outright, my parents weren't much better." (Y/n) looks a little sad speaking of such topics so Sebastian quickly apologized.
After an hour or so they finally arrived on the other side of town. Sebastian could hear (Y/n) let out a breath of relief when he saw the manor still in place...
*BOOM*
Nevermind...
(Y/n) dropped the things in his hands and immediately ran inside. Sebastian grabbed his arms and ran in instead. Within a few minutes, Sebastian was able to rescue the few people in the manor before it completely collapsed and was engulfed in a humongous flame. (Y/n) looked into the fire after checking everyone there. Remembering something important he looks at the garden before that was blown up as well. Dity flew into the air looking like a water fountain that was contaminated.
(Y/n) coughed at the dust before he was offered another cloth by Sebastian.
"Thank you, Sebastian, I didn't know if they would have survived without you." (Y/n) said as his very few servants surrounded him asking if he was all right. (Y/n) looking at the destroyed ruin of a manor, he walked into the garden once again seeing the once thriving pond destroyed as the bodies of the animals mixed in the dirt. (Y/n) looked at the animals and sighed.
*meow~*
Sebastian looks down at the cat that was walking towards (Y/n). He picked it up as the cat scratched his face.
"There you are," (Y/n) rushed over and grabbed the cat out of Sebastian's hand as the cat went and crawled into his arm and around his neck.
Sebastian looks at the cat that has his tail wrapped around (Y/n)'s neck. Sebastian looks at (Y/n) before going to grab his hand. "We can go back to the Phantomhive manor and bring the cat please."
"I don't plan on getting rid of him any time soon." (Y/n) reached up and gently patted his little friends' head. "I don't plan on not to, but are you sure your master would be all right with our stay over at his manor without consent?" Sebastian looks at (Y/n) with a smirk.
"I have already sent the letter with a messenger dove, there should be a letter of response when we get all the carriages ready," Sebastian said as he went to prepare the carriages, bringing the head butler from the (L/n) manor with him to teach him some things, and to sneak out to get an answer from his own master.
Yes, he's doing all of this for the cat.
(Y/n) could only search around the ruins for anything that could be salvaged. A few books survived but they weren't touched much in the first place so (Y/n) just left them in their spot. (Y/n) looks around before going back when Sebastian and the head butler came back with many carriages. (Y/n) could only smile sadly as he wasn't much use.
After they got everything and everyone connected via a few meters of ropes, 2 horses in front of every carriage they started moving. During the middle of the journey, Sebastian received a long letter allowing them to stay there until the (L/n) manor can reconstruct after a search for unexploded explosives.
Hours-long later, they arrived, but upon their entrance, there was...pink everywhere. "What has happened here?" (Y/n) questioned looking around.
"HI! My name is Elizabeth, Ciel's spouse! Who are you?"
"My name is (Y/n) (L/n)"
"Miss Elizabeth please, I have guests over, do not embarrass me," Ciel said walking down the stairs. His cane was in his hand as he glared at the girl. It's not the first time and he was tired of clearing the other's mess over and over again. (Y/n) was escorted to his room as the rest of the servants cleaned up everything after the girl left. Ciel looked at (Y/n)'s servants who were helping out. They were more properly trained than his own for house chores and house cleaning for sure.
It took around a week for everyone to settle down. (Y/n) got his temporary workroom right beside Ciels for easier communication between the two. (Y/n) has done the paperwork for rebuilding his entire manor and changed his inbox to the Phantomhive manor until his manor would be rebuilt again.
Sebastian has been a great help for him...well, more help for his cat than anything. The animal was scared of the butler at first but now it's become completely smitten with the both of them. Often jumping off of (Y/n)'s lap and running toward Sebastian for food and treats. Sebastian comes in every two to three hours to greet the cat and (Y/n) would just ignore him now.
Once again, Sebastian came in, his time with a tolly filled with a few pastries and teas for the two masters.
Once getting his food (Y/n) went and allowed Sebastian to feed the cat. The animal has no name yet, but this cat was also pretty loyal to (Y/n) so it never minded to ust be called cat by the man. Though Sebastian certainly did have a lot of nicknames for the cat. The animal seems to always know that Sebastian was talking to him, then again he was the only cat in the entire manor, and to a normal human, Sebastian wouldn't meow at them.
Over the next few months (Y/n) was getting more and more issues with the building of his mansion. (Y/n) looks around at the papers on his desk in a piece of panic, he needed this mansion built no matter what! But the explosion caused the dirt to loosen significantly and a mudslide later on when heavy rain hit. Most of the progress was destroyed. Much less there was even lesser land to work with, but with a few tests, the land also threatened to destroy everything with a few mere rainfalls.
One of those days (Y/n) got a message...
[Project canceled
Due to the circumstances of the terrain, we recommend buying another land to rebuild the project on. The team has tried multiple times to continue after the massive mudslide but ultimately too much damage has been done and the project cannot continue...]
There were many paragraphs after that, but the first sentences brought (Y/n) to shame. He looks at the letter.
It was only a building, why should he cry over it? It was just another unfortunate circumstance why should he cry over it?
Why should he cry over it? Just buy another land and build it again. He has enough money, right?
It's an old ass building anyway, it's bound to fall one day or another.
Just live a few more months in the Phantomhive, Ciel has reassured him it was all right, right?
Just ignore the rumors of him first gaining sympathy to taking advantage of what is ultimately a child.
It's fine, everything is fine.
His business wasn't failing, the consumers were enjoying his products correct?
It's not like they have stopped.
This was a simple project, just move the location.
Move the location, don't get hurt over this shit.
It's only a house, he can get a bigger one. Grander one, better one, fanciers one.
That location wasn't only a childhood for him, it was also for his servants, who were raised together with him with their servant parents.
Over the past few months, he has noticed how the servants were getting more and more excited and often had come asking him when the building was finished, it was quite far away so it wasn't that easy to see the progress so it was understandable that they were curious.
Well he has also noticed how fond Sebastian was getting with actually capable servants and he seemed to have more free time
(Y/n) had mentioned how if the building was able to be built how they would react. It wasn't that great, they all reassured (Y/n) that the building would be all right but now what?
(Y/n) could feel their disappointment already as he held the paper.
Did he just have an entire breakdown?
(Y/n) wiped his face and grabbed the piece of paper.
"Oh, Sebastian perfect timing, can you call my servants to the main dining hall?" (Y/n) said, "I have... announcement for them."
(Y/n) waiting in the dining hall. As one by one arrived. (Y/n) felt a little pressure again but then again, it was just a building. He felt so childish for crying over such a small thing.
Once everyone arrived (Y/n) announced where their new location would be.
Everything was much more simple than he thought.
(Y/n) smiled as the other servants chimed in along with Sebastian, who was still holding his cat, he seemed reluctant for the animal to go. The cat jumped into (Y/n)'s arms as (Y/n) walked back upstairs. Sebastian followed him.
"You've been crying," He started (Y/n) stopping a the top of the stairs to see the man walking up and standing a stair or two below him.
"You've noticed? I was just glad the others didn't."
"I was more focused on the cat rather than your speech."
"I could tell, I don't blame you, it was none of your business after all. I doubt you haven't felt the same emotions before." (Y/n) smiled the cat pawing his face.
"No." Sebastian pushed up his glasses as (Y/n) sighed.
"You're not touching the cat anymore after this, he's a lot heavier than before, that's not healthy."
"Eh?! H-hold on, think about this Sir (L/n)!" Sebastian ran after (Y/n) who has already entered his room, "Such an elegant creature deserves to be treated like a royal animal doesn't it?"
(Y/n) can feel his mouth twitch, "This cat is all you're ever talking about with me, it just makes me feel lesser than human, you were even obsessing over the cat through the window when I was crying."
Sebastian looks at the feline on (Y/n)'s lap, "All right, then what do you wish for me to do?"
"You've been a support for me whether or not you wish to, just be my friend alright? It may be your job to serve your master, but not me, and yet you have been for nearly a year now. Though nothing much happened other than last night..." (Y/n) laughed awkwardly as Sebastian walked over to him.
"All right, only on one condition."
"What may that be?"
"Let me see the cat once again, I'll help it to lose weight. You don't seem to know how to raise one anyway."
Well, that was a jab to (Y/n)'s pet lover's mindset. Fair enough the cat was raised indoors and wild. It was so well-behaved, (Y/n) sometimes questioned if it was a real cat or not. Perhaps it just liked him a lot. "All right, just fewer treats and more exercise, I'm scared it might get lost if I allow him to roam around the garden."
Sebastian walked out of the room, and within seconds he came back with a giant box of toys. It barely fit through the door.
"How did you...huh?" (Y/n) questioned as the cat jumped toward the box sniffing it.
"Well since you are going to be appetence in taking care of a cat you will get to know everything about one." Sebastian smiled as he took the cat into his arms.
"You had this entire box of stuff for cats when your master is allergic? How did he not find out?"
"He never suspected, so he never asks about it."
"Wow, haha, I see, that's impressive."
"You see, I'm simply one hell of a butler."
(Y/n) looks at him and laughs, he's going to enjoy this side class as a stress relief.
