A gentle shake roused Y/N from her slumber, coaxing her back to consciousness with a delicate touch. Blinking away the remnants of sleep, her heart performed a momentary somersault when her gaze met Hermione's playful expression. A goofy smile adorned Hermione's face as she leaned in, her voice a soft, almost conspiratorial whisper in Y/N's ear.

"Rise and shine, sleepyhead. We've made a pit stop at a gas station. Time to refuel ourselves – literally." Hermione's suggestion was accompanied by a hopeful glint in her eyes, a silent invitation to partake in the upcoming adventure.

Y/N couldn't help but squirm slightly under Hermione's gaze, her sleep-heavy limbs protesting against the idea of leaving the warmth of her seat. Yet, Hermione's enthusiasm was infectious, and the anticipation of what lay ahead outweighed Y/N's initial reluctance.

"Mmm, I'm not exactly craving a feast right now," Y/N mumbled, her voice drenched in the remnants of her slumber.

Hermione's response was swift and accompanied by an expert eye roll. "Well, I am – and since we're a team, we're eating." Hermione's determination brooked no argument, her tone carrying a touch of playful insistence.

Y/N's lips curved into a lazy grin, appreciating Hermione's unwavering resolve. "Why not recruit Harry and Ron for this mission? They're always up for a food adventure," Y/N suggested with a hint of mischief.

"No, I want you," she declared without hesitation.

Hermione's retort was quick, laced with an undeniable eagerness. The words tumbled out before her mind had a chance to filter them. Her eyes widened with realization, the truth of her statement hanging in the air like an unspoken secret.

Caught off guard by her own candor, Hermione's cheeks flushed with a rosy hue. Y/N's gaze met hers, both girls sharing a surprised yet knowing look that transcended words. An unexpected intimacy lingered in that fleeting moment, a connection forged through the unguarded revelation of Hermione's desire for Y/N's company.

"Oh really?" she quipped, allowing the playful banter to wrap around the shared secret. A mischievous glint danced in Y/N's eyes, her teasing tone carrying a hint of amusement.

"Oh, just hush, you know what I meant," she retorted, her voice a mixture of exasperation and endearing awkwardness. Hermione huffed, her own embarrassment evident as she playfully shoved Y/N's shoulder.

As Hermione turned to make her exit, Y/N's laughter followed her, a gentle melody that underscored the bundling friendship that was bound to turn into something more. With a contented sigh, Y/N pushed herself up from her seat, the grogginess of sleep slipping away as she readied herself for the unplanned stop.

✴✴✴✴✴

Inside the confines of a bustling 7/11, Y/N and Hermione found themselves stationed in a corner, each engaged in their chosen indulgence. Hermione's fingers deftly tore open a bag of crisps, the familiar sound of the packaging being breached filling the air.

Meanwhile, Y/N stood beside her, slender fingers wrapped around a slurpee, the vibrant colors of the frozen drink a stark contrast against the muted surroundings.

The bell above the entrance tinkled, a gentle chime that signaled the arrival of new customers. Y/N's curiosity prompted her to peek her head out, her gaze locking onto a group that entered the store. As the trio of familiar faces came into view, Y/N's expression shifted – her countenance fell slightly, mirroring a sentiment that had remained unresolved.

Among the trio, Aurora's eyes met Y/N's for a brief moment, a fleeting connection that spoke volumes despite the lack of words exchanged. Their shared history seemed to hang in the air, an unspoken narrative that neither was ready to confront.

Hermione's voice broke through the silence that had momentarily settled between them, her question carrying a touch of curiosity that caught Y/N off guard.

"Do you like her?" Hermione's words were direct, prompting Y/N to pause and consider the implications. The question echoed in the space between them, an inquiry that peeled away the layers of Y/N's thoughts and emotions.

"And why would you think that?" she countered, her voice tinged with amusement and a hint of intrigue. Y/N's lips curved into a chuckle, her head shaking gently as she raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms in a gesture of nonchalance.

"The way you look at her," Hermione stated matter-of-factly, the words carrying a truth that had likely remained unnoticed by Y/N herself. Hermione's response was equally straightforward, delivered with an air of certainty that spoke of her keen observation skills.

"No, I don't. I don't fancy anyone," she declared with a definitive certainty, her words a firm proclamation that seemed to close the door on the topic. A dismissive scoff escaped Y/N's lips, her denial swift and assertive.

"Hm," Hermione hummed softly, a subtle smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Hermione's eyebrow arched inquisitively, her gaze fixed on Y/N as if she was trying to peer into the depths of her thoughts.

The admission that nobody had captured Y/N's romantic interest – at least not yet – seemed to elicit an unexpected sense of contentment in Hermione.

As the air held the promise of Halloween festivities, Y/N and Hermione found themselves engaged in a casual exchange. Hermione's voice broke through the lighthearted atmosphere, her question light and conversational, carrying the curiosity that often accompanied the anticipation of the holiday.

"What do you plan to be on Halloween?" Hermione's inquiry was met with a nonchalant shrug from Y/N, her response carrying an air of indifference.

"I'm not. Just me. Costumes are lame," Y/N's words were accompanied by a subtle dismissal of the elaborate festivities that often accompanied the holiday. Hermione's reaction was immediate, her eyes rolling in playful exasperation.

"You're so boring," Hermione's voice was tinged with a playful tease, her words reflecting the good-natured banter that often characterized their interactions.

"That's ironic coming from you, Granger," Y/N retorted, her raised eyebrow and accompanying chuckle hinting at the playful rivalry that had come to define their dynamic.

Hermione's response was a dismissive wave, accompanied by a soft sigh that carried a note of resignation. The exchange, though lighthearted, was layered with a deeper understanding that seemed to transcend the surface level of their words.

As Y/N's gaze lingered on Hermione for a fleeting moment, a soft smile graced her lips, her attention momentarily drawn to the slight bags under Hermione's eyes. The illuminated digits of the clock revealed the lateness of the hour – 2:32 AM – a reminder that they were still far from their destination.

"By the way, you look pretty tonight," Y/N's voice was a gentle mumble, her words offered almost in passing. Hermione's gaze flickered towards her, the surprise in her eyes prompting Y/N's lips to part, a moment of vulnerability momentarily exposed.

"What?" Hermione's voice held a touch of confusion, her curiosity evident.

"I said you looked shitty tonight, like a pile of shit." Y/N's words were sharp, her tone a stark contrast to her previous sentiment. The abrupt shift in her response carried a weight of bitterness, an unspoken defense mechanism that had been triggered.

With that, Y/N turned on her heels, a decisive movement that marked her retreat. The resolve within her had solidified – she had promised herself not to trust anyone anymore, not to allow herself to be vulnerable. Distance, she believed, was the key to self-preservation, a wall she was determined to build and fortify.

"Why would I even say that?" Y/N's voice carried a grumble as she paced restlessly around the gas station, her steps echoing in the quiet night.

A telltale blush adorned her cheeks, the evidence of her embarrassment shining through despite the dim lighting. Her inner monologue was a mix of frustration and self-chastisement, a swirling whirlwind of thoughts that only seemed to intensify her flushed complexion.

"I'm so stupid," Y/N muttered to herself, her words a self-directed scolding that resonated with a mix of exasperation and annoyance. She let out a long, frustrated sigh, the sound carrying the weight of her internal turmoil as she finally made her way back to the waiting bus.

With a mixture of groans and huffs, Y/N eased herself into her seat, her body language reflecting the intensity of her feelings. The muffled sounds that escaped her lips were a blend of frustration and a sort of pent-up energy, the audible release of emotions that had been swirling within her.

"Urghuf," Y/N's groan was a mixture of exasperation and a hint of desperation, the slurred sound carrying the weight of her discontent.

Her words were lost in the folds of her scarf as she pulled it close, muffling her silent scream into the fabric. The rhythmic movement of her feet, kicking up and down, seemed to mirror the oscillating emotions that had taken hold of her.

"Y/N?" A voice drifted from the side, causing Y/N to lift her gaze from her thoughts, her attention captured by the familiar sound.

"Aurora," Y/N's voice carried a mixture of surprise and recognition, her lips parting slightly as she registered the unexpected encounter.

Aurora seemed to carry a weight upon her shoulders, her expression reflecting a mixture of hesitation and resolve. "Look," she began, her voice carrying an earnest tone that drew Y/N's attention fully. "Can we talk?" Aurora's request hung in the air, punctuated by a palpable tension.

Y/N's gaze shifted to the side momentarily before she nodded, a silent agreement to engage in the conversation. Aurora's presence had always elicited a mix of emotions within her, and now was no different.

"You're really not going to apologize?" Aurora's words carried a hint of desperation, a plea that resonated in the atmosphere between them. Y/N's lips pursed as she absorbed the weight of Aurora's question, her own conflicted feelings swirling beneath the surface.

"I..." Y/N began, searching for the right words amidst the complex turmoil of emotions that had been brewing within her.

Aurora's voice carried a tone of sincerity, a reflection of the longing that had settled between them. "We really miss you, Y/N," she confessed, her words carrying the weight of their shared history. "Can't you just apologize so everything will turn back to normal?" Aurora's plea held a vulnerable edge, her desire to mend their fractured friendship evident.

Her desperation grew more pronounced. "I really don't want our friendship to be over," Aurora continued, her words almost a plea. "We're gonna be roommates for the next 7 years, for crying out loud."

Y/N's response remained a silence, her thoughts a tumultuous whirlwind as she grappled with the conflicting emotions that Aurora's presence had stirred within her. Her gaze remained fixed on Aurora's face, her expression blank as she absorbed the words.

"There you go again! With that agitating blank stare of yours." Aurora's frustration burst forth, her exclamation carrying a mix of exasperation and genuine concern. "It's impossible to read you, Y/N." Aurora's voice resonated with her own struggle to decipher the enigma that was Y/N.

Aurora let out a sigh of frustration, her shoulders slumping slightly. "Why are you so emotionless?" Aurora's question hung in the air, capturing the essence of the complexity that was Y/N.

The unspoken emotions that lay beneath the surface, the guarded demeanor that had become a defining aspect of her presence – all of it seemed to culminate in that simple, yet layered question.

"I don't know," Y/N's voice carried a hint of uncertainty, her words echoing within the charged atmosphere that enveloped them.

Aurora's response was a soft exhalation, her voice carrying a note of resignation as she absorbed Y/N's words. "...Okay," she whispered, her voice almost a whisper in the tense air between them. "Our friendship isn't over, by the way," Aurora's words held a touch of reassurance, an attempt to bridge the gap that had formed.

"Let's just pretend that the problem never happened because you clearly aren't gonna apologize." Aurora's sigh seemed to encapsulate her acceptance of the current situation, a hint of defeat lacing her tone.

As Y/N rose from her seat, Aurora's gaze followed her, their eyes meeting as an unspoken exchange passed between them. Y/N's fingers wrapped around her wrist, a hesitant gesture that seemed to convey more than words ever could.

In that charged moment, their faces mere inches apart, Y/N's attempt to speak was palpable, her struggle to find the right words evident in the furrow of her eyebrows. Her breath seemed to hitch in her throat, her pride and vulnerability engaged in a silent battle.

Then, an unexpected thought crossed her mind. Hermione.

The mere presence of Hermione's name seemed to lend her the courage to overcome her internal struggle. "I'm..." Y/N's voice began, her words wavering as she attempted to articulate her thoughts. "I'm, err— uh..." Her brief hesitation betrayed her internal struggle, her attempt to put aside her pride evident in her expression.

A rush of realization washed over her, a connection forming between her actions and Hermione's presence in her thoughts. The pieces of the puzzle seemed to click into place, though the why remained elusive.

"I'm sorry," Y/N's words came abruptly, carrying a sense of sincerity that hadn't been present before. Her grip on Aurora's wrist tightened, as if seeking an anchor in this pivotal moment. "I'm sorry, genuinely." Her voice held a mixture of vulnerability and resolve, her gaze steady as she met Aurora's surprised stare.

The weight of her apology seemed to hang in the air, an acknowledgment of the rift between them and a tentative step towards healing. Aurora's initial shock transitioned into a softened expression, her lips parting slightly as she absorbed Y/N's words.

Aurora's response was a nod, her eyes reflecting a mixture of surprise and acceptance. As their hands remained connected, the unspoken understanding between them seemed to bridge the gap that had grown between their hearts. The echoes of Y/N's apology lingered in the air, carrying with them the potential for a renewed bond, tempered by the experiences that had shaped them.

"You're forgiven."
