(A small note before reading, yes, I know that dance dance revolution didn't exist until the late 90s, but hey this is the TF2 universe, this universe has some advanced technology for the 60s/70s. So let's just pretend that the 60s had their own version of dance dance revolution and enjoy the story.)
Phoenix and you had a day off, so you decided the two of you were going to go to the arcade for a date. Phoenix had his big hoodie on to hide his face from the other people in the building.
"Phoenix, let's play this game!" You said, pulling him towards a big dancing machine.
"Oh, I don't know...I'm not good at moving fast enough to get the notes." Phoenix admitted shyly.
"Come on, we can do a simple song and work our way up." You explained. "Or if you don't want to you can watch me. It's up to you, firebird."
Phoenix thought for a moment before giving you a sweet little smile.
"I'll give it a try," Phoenix said.
You smiled, putting your quarters into the machine. You picked an easy song and pressed play. Phoenix watched the screen, hitting the buttons with his feet. He smiled as he got better.
"That's it, baby, you got it!" You smiled.
Phoenix laughed, gaining a little more confidence, and dancing more to the song. After the song was over you picked a harder song. Phoenix began enjoying the game more and more.
"This is so fun, Princess!" Phoenix smiled.
"See I knew you would like it." You laughed. "You're doing amazing!"
You two were having so much fun that you didn't realize Phoenix's jacket hood fell off. The song was over and you two smiled at the high score you got.
"Hey guys look, it's that redhead freak!" Someone yelled.
Phoenix tensed up and turned, his eyes widened from fear. You looked over and realized who it was. Phoenix had told you about a group of guys that would bully him anytime they saw him. The one talking was named Logan, the leader of this group of cunts.
"I thought we told you to stay home so you don't scare the children." Logan laughed.
Phoenix hugged himself, backing up until his back hit the machine.
"Look he's gonna cry again." The blonde of the group said.
You looked at Phoenix and he was starting to tear up.
"Phoenix, don't-"
"Your name is Phoenix, like the bird?" The brown-haired one said.
"I thought those birds were supposed to be beautiful after they burned." The third guy said.
Phoenix was now fully crying. You stepped in front of Phoenix in a way to create distance between them and Phoenix.
"How about you leave him alone!" You growled.
"Is this your little girlfriend, ugly?" Logan teased. "Hey baby girl, how about you come with us? We can show you what real good-looking men look like."
You couldn't take this anymore. You stepped forward punching Logan as hard as you could. The rest of the group backed up as Logan fell to the ground. You stepped on his neck and when the other three try to touch you, you pulled out the gun you carried with you in case of emergency.
"Now you fuckers listen here," You growled. "One, I'm not baby girl to you and I already have a perfect example of a good-looking man. And two, if you ever speak to him like that again, you're going to wish you were dead because no one hurts my Phoenix."
"Already! Please just let us go." Logan cried.
You lift your foot and Logan rushed out of the arcade with his group. You looked up to see only one little security camera and you shot it. You turned to Phoenix but he was already heading outside, he was holding his hood on tightly. You ran to follow him outside.
"Phoenix, hey, it's okay." You cupped his cheeks. "I'm sorry...that wouldn't have happened if I didn't make you play that game."
"No... it's not your fault. I wanted to play and it was fun... they would have seen me anyway." Phoenix whispered, tears still running down his cheek. "I just want to go back to the base..."
"Okay, baby, we can do that." You frowned.
Phoenix got in the car and you got in the driver's seat. The ride home was silent. Phoenix sat there hiding in his hoodie. Once you got to the base, you two walked inside.
"Do you want anything? I can get some ice cream or pizza!" You asked.
"No... I just want to go to bed... alone." Phoenix whispered.
"Okay, let me know if you need anything." You told him.
Phoenix nodded before walking to your room. You stood there for a moment thinking, before walking to Dell's room. You knocked on the door and a few seconds later Dell opened the door.
"Hey, (Y/N), I thought you and Phoenix were going to the arcade?" Dell said.
"We did but something happened." You said. "I need your help, can you get the rest of the team?"
~
Early in the morning the next day, you walked into your room. You walked over to Phoenix, softly shaking him.
"Wake up, firebird." You softly said.
Phoenix rolled over, slowly opening his eyes.
"Is it time for battle?" Phoenix asked.
"Battle is canceled, respawn has a malfunction." You said. "But I have something to show you."
Phoenix tilted his head confused but he got up. You then covered his eyes.
"Why are you covering my eyes?" Phoenix asked.
"It's a surprise, just trust me, I'll guide you." You said.
"Okay," Phoenix said.
You guided Phoenix outside, taking him to a small building not that far from the base. You moved your hands, smiling widely. The building was the old shooting range, it was abandoned after a bigger one was made.
"What are we doing outside the old shooting range? Wait, why does it look like a rainbow was painted on the outside?" Phoenix asked.
"How about you go inside?" You suggested.
Phoenix reached for the door handle and opened the door. Phoenix's eyes widened as he saw the whole team standing there and the whole room was turned into an arcade.
"Surprise!" They had said.
"What... how.. you guys did this?!" Phoenix smiled looking around.
"Yeah, (Y/N) told us about what happened and to make you feel better we made you your own arcade where no one could ruin your fun." Dell smiled, resting his arm on Phoenix's shoulder.
"Where did you get this all?" Phoenix asked.
"We stole it!" Jane smiled.
"We may have ransacked the arcade last night while Miss Pauling was deleting all the camera evidence of me attacking Logan." You laughed.
"This is amazing, I love it." Phoenix teared up. "Thank you! All of you!"
"No problem, mate. You deserve a place to feel safe." Mundy said.
"Yeah, plus we can all have game nights here!" Jeremy smiled.
"Also you won't have to worry about those disrespectful fools anymore," Jacques said.
"Why? Did you guys kill them??" Phoenix asked.
"We did make them pay," Misha said.
"But zhere not dead yet! Master and I are going to use zhen for our experiments first." Ludwig smiled. "Ve make zhem suffer for zhose horrible zhings zhey said about jou."
Phoenix smiled, feeling relieved that they weren't going to hurt him again.
"Come on, lad! How about we start playing, we have the whole day!" Tavish said.
"I call the first play on Donkey Kong!" Jeremy yelled, running to the machine.
"No fair! I want to play!" Jane yelled.
Phoenix laughed, turning to you. Phoenix leaned in to kiss your cheek.
"Thank you so much, Princess," Phoenix said.
"No problem, Phoenix." You said. "Now come on, we got more high scores to beat on that dancing game."
Phoenix smiled, holding your hand. The two of you walked over to the dance game together, ready to have fun.
