Saffron's eyes met Charlies as she went to rush to get over to him.
Suddenly the wall burst through and in came the Romanian longtail.
Saffron froze, her eyes going to Charlie, who had been knocked down and out. Blood dripped form his eyebrow and Saffron let out a cry. Only it wasn't heard over the volume of the other screams.
Saffron ran over to Charlie, wiping the blood off the side of his face and on her pants.
She began to cry as she went to check his pulse, only to have the longtail come right up to her.
She froze, closing her eyes. She could feel it's warm breath.
Slowly opening her eyes she came to face a large jaw and and an equally large set of teeth.
Holding in her breath, she reached for Charlies wrist. The dragon growled and Saffron dropped her hands.
Closing her eyes she took a deep breath. It had been a long time since she had worked with dragons. Being around an angry was sending a long forgotten fear through her.
She needed to check Charlie's pulse, but she also needed to stop this dragon from attacking her or Charlie.
Carefully, Saffron lifted up a hand, reaching out to the dragons nose.
He growled and backed away a little.
Saffron pulled her hand back to turned back to Charlie, another growl came from the dragon.
Saffron turned, putting one hand up to the dragon as she reached with her other hand to Charlie's throat, checking and relaxing once she found a pulse.
She was able to take care of the dragon before getting back to Charlie.
Standing, she slowly made her way closer to the dragon,who was still huffing and letting out low moans and growls.
"Hey, hey it's ok," Saffron muttered softly. Gently she reached further, placing her hand on the dragon's green, scaly nose. It's large horns were dangerously close to her, and she knew this.
She had to be absolutely careful.
The dragon realised she meant no harm, but was still a bit cautious.
Saffron carefully stroked him, bringing her other hand up to do the same thing.
The dragon began to calm down and Saffron couldn't believe it was working. She moved down his neck to his shoulder. Gently running her hand over him, letting him know she wasn't going to hurt him.
"You're a good boy," Saffron said, coming back up to his face. "You are. They just don't know it."
Saffron could hear footsteps and she had to keep hold of the longtail who could sense people coming and wanted to desperately attack them.
"Shhh," Saffron muttered, one hand holding under the chin, the other rubbing his neck as she tried to keep him soothed.
"Don't come closer," Saffron said as a group of workers entered the room. Saffron looked over to recognize most of them. Tim, Sinead, Dan, Adam, and Curtis leading them.
"Saffron," Curtis frowned.
"Shh," Saffron said. The long tail kept it's eyes on the group of them, distrust reflecting in his eyes.
"You need to treat him with respect and gently. He's old and won't hesitate to attack you. You must be careful with him. He responds better to kindness than to control," Saffron explained.
"He needs to be controlled," Curtis said.
"Controlled?" You can't truly control a dragon, especially not one like this," Saffron said.
"He needs discipline."
"Curtis stop. You'll make him angry. Sinead, come here," Saffron asked.
"Yeah?" Sinead asked as she slowly made her way over.
"Make slow, gentle movements. Give me your hand," Saffron instructed.
Sinead did as she was told and Saffron took hold of her wrist bringing her closer.
The dragon seemed very hesitant but Saffron calmed him.
She gently put Sinead's wrist under his chin, replacing hers.
"Now do this," Saffron showed her the hand movement on his neck.
Sinead imitated it and the dragon slowly eased into her touch.
"There you go. Now you can take him back out," Saffron said and Sinead nodded, leading the dragon out, the rest of the group following as well.
Saffron rushed over to Charlie, not forgetting he was unconscious.
"You're not a dragon expert," Curtis said, still hanging at the entrance.
"You don't seem to be either," Saffron said coldly. "Trying to control a dragon. You can't force it to do your bidding Curtis. They will hate you."
"Don't bother Saffron," he said. "Besides, why are you bothering with him?" he asked as Saffron tried to move Charlie out of the rubble.
"Because I love him," Saffron said.
"Oh you do now?"
"Yes. No thanks to you. Oh thanks for spreading that rumour by the way. Way to go," Saffron said sarcastically.
"It was for your own good," Curtis shrugged.
"And how does that work? I'm not going to date you. Ever. Curtis you can just stop," Saffron said. "You have been such a big jerk behind my back and if that's how you are when I don't see you, how are you really when I do see you? I don't trust and frankly I don't even like you."
Curtis rolled his eyes, opening his mouth to say something when Dan was back at the door.
"Curti- Charlie?" he broke off, finding his best friends laying on the floor as Saffron tried to push him out of the way.
"What happened?" he asked rushing over to Saffron.
"He was knocked out. He has a pulse, I just want to get him to somewhere clear, clean his forehead and check him for an other injuries," Saffron explained.
"I'll help you," Dan said.
"Oh and Curtis they need your help," Dan said nonchalantly as he helped Saffron lift Charlie's body.
Curtis left as Saffron got all the dirt and dust off Charlie's body, also healing the small cut he'd received.
"Will he be ok?" Dan asked worried.
"Yes. I can't tell you when he will wake, but he will."
"Good. He has a lot he needs to tell you Saffron. I do hope you'll listen," Dan explained as he watched her cleaning Charlie off.
"I already have," Saffron said.
"Oh! Well then," Dan said. "What do you think?"
"I love him," Saffron said and Dan smiled.
"I know. He loves you too."
"I know," Saffron smiled.
"I'll have you know, I don't like the idea of Charlie having a girlfriend. Never had. We're the bachelors us two. It was great. But for some reason I don't mind you. In fact I quite like you and I like Charlie with you. He needs you," Dan admitted.
"I'm going to take all that as compliment," Saffron smiled. "And I need him as well. I know it was a mistake breaking up with him. I just want the best for him," Saffron sniffed.
"I know, and I think that you are," Dan smiled.
"Thanks."
"No problem. Hey you were really good back there. I didn't know you were god with dragons as well."
"Thanks. I originally worked with them before moving to healing," Saffron said.
"Really? Why?"
Saffron gave him a pointed look and he chuckled.
"I see. But still, impressive," Dan smiled.
"Thanks," Saffron blushed.
Charlie coughed and Saffron grabbed his hand, but his eyes stayed firmly shut.
