Solána POV (The next morning)
" I don't want you around that Nigga, Solána!"
" What's the big deal, Dre? We're just friends!" I paused in the mirror while doing my hair.
" Just friends? That nigga still wants you! I saw how he reacted to seeing me. His reactions toward you. Him pulling you to the side before we left! What did he say?" I stood in the doorway of my bathroom and watched Dre. He was getting ready for work.
" We were just discussing something about his mother! My patient, remember?" I turned back around and finished my hair.
" That better had been all that you were discussing."
" And if it wasn't?" I muttered, he didn't hear me. He walked into the bathroom with me and leaned down to kiss me.
" Are you coming by for lunch?" I asked.
" Yea, I have a few cars today,, so I'll be done by 12:30, probably. I'll meet you at 1." I nodded. He kissed me once more before leaving. My phone went off and of course it was Aubrey.
Aubrey😊: Good Morning. Dinner tonight? Just us?
I let out a sigh after reading his message. I know I said I wanted to make this friendship work,, but I also don't want to complicate things in my relationship. My relationship with Dre is great. We're not perfect! Yea, we have normal disagreements, like most couples.
Me: Good morning. I'll l have to see. I'm working a double tonight. Maybe I can get away.
Aubrey😊: Well, how about I bring dinner for you? That way, you don't have to leave. I was going to have dinner cooked for you last night, but.....
Here he goes....
Me: I'm sorry, Aubrey. Anyway, that's fine. Come to the hospital around 7:30. We'll eat in my office.
Aubrey😊: Ok💕
(Hospital)
" So why the fuck did you bring Dre to Aubrey's?" That's the first thing Naomi says to me as I walked through the doors. Other Doctors and nurses greeted me. Naomi? Nope, she gets straight to the point.
" Can we not talk about this here?" I picked up a few charts.
" Nope! We're talking about it! I want to know why you would bring that no good, mooching ass nigga to the love of your life's house?" Someone handed me a few things to sign off on. Nai stood right next to me, waiting.
" Dre is the love of my life, Nai." She gave me a stank face.
" That nigga ain't shit!" She said louder. A few people looked at her, and she returned a look.
" The fuck y'all looking at?" I shook my head and continued. Of course, she followed me.
" Nai, he was asking questions about why I've been hanging out with this friend lately. So I informed him about Aubrey!"
" Bitch, you should have told him you were with me! Ugh, I can't stand him. You can do so much better, Lana! That nigga lives off of you! You pay all the bills at that house, and what does he pay? Netflix? He doesn't have a fucking car! He drives one of yours!"
" I have a patient..." I turned around and walked away.
Aubrey POV
" Man, you looked sad as fuck last night! I kept trying to tell you not to let that show in front of that nigga!" Chubbs expressed as I made a three.
" I just wish that she would've called me and told she wasn't coming instead of bringing him. She apologized, but that shit still hurts!" Making another three, I moved to the other side to shoot.
" That shit threw me off, bruh!" I watched as Chubbs went for a dunk.
" You?! It threw me off too! I'm standing at the door like, who and what the fuck is this. I'm going to try a simple layup." He threw the ball to me and shook his head as I went for the layup.
" I asked her out to dinner this morning." Chubbs gave me a look.
" Hmm."
" She said she's working a double,, so I offered to bring her dinner and she agreed." I moved and sat down while Chubbs continued to shoot.
" Man, you probably need to just leave her alone! Let her have her lil relationship with whatever his name is."
"Nah, we're friends! It's nothing wrong with two friends hanging out!" I pulled out my phone.
" Not when you're the friend that has other motives, Nigga! I'm positive he knows the deal, and I'm certain he knows y'all dated. That's why his ass showed up! That nigga had a lot of nerve!" Chubbs threw the ball to me and I took a shot from my seat, making it.
" Other motives? I just want her in my life and if it's just as friends, then I'm good! I went all of these years without her and every one of those, I thought about her! She was on my mind constantly. The times I came back to Miami, I hoped that I would run into her, but unfortunately I didn't."
"Nigga..... Never mind! Let's play, but keep it simple" I stood up as he threw the ball. Of course, my mind was on Solána now.
" Whatever! I'm crippled and could still wipe the floor with you!"
" Crippled ass gonna end up in the emergency room, Dr. Rowe... Dr. Rowe!"
(30 minutes later)
" Ah, Fuck!!!" I screamed while being wheeled into the hospital room.
" Nigga, I told ya dumbass to calm down, but Nah! You had something to prove!"
" Fuck you Chubbs!" This pain is shit...
" What happened?" I looked up to see Solána.
" He was doing some shit he shouldn't have," Chubbs says. Solána gives me a look.
" I told you to take it easy! Let me see what's going on. Is it the same knee?" They helped me into the hospital bed.
" Yea..." I watched as she examined my knee. I was in so much pain that I didn't even hear what she was saying.
" We're going to get you an MRI..."
"Guess no dinner tonight, huh?" I mumbled. She turned and stared at me with that beautiful smile.
" Depending on what's going on with this knee, I'll bring you dinner later." She talked with a few nurses and then she left.
"You did this shit on purpose!" Chubbs says. I glanced at him.
" Really, nigga?"
(Later)
" Ok, so there's another tear. It's tiny, though."
" Are you fucking kidding me!" I yelled.
" Nigga, you shouldn't have been doing all that extra shit! You were clear to start with light practicing. Not trying to dunk and run the ball full court!" I let out a sigh.
"Whatever needs to be done."
"Ok, I'll let Dr. Smith come in and explain more to you," Solána said just as her phone rang. She walked out, but I could still hear her talking.
" Ok, I'm on my way.... I love you too." She peeked back in.
" I have something to do, but I'll be back. Dr. Smith should be in shortly." Solána voices.
" Man, I can't believe you did this. This will put you out even longer."
" Shit, maybe I need this time away. I've been doing too much. Carrying a team that doesn't even appreciate me." I chuckled.
" Well, I'm glad you see it now!" Chubbs states while Dr. Smith walks in. He explained everything and that I wouldn't require surgery but that I needed to stay off of my knee for the next few weeks.
" Thanks, Doc." I nodded as he stepped out. Nai walked in. She must have just gotten off. She still had her scrubs on
" Lord. What done happened now?"
" Him, being him!" Chubbs says while pulling her toward him.
" Oh. So you did it on purpose?"
"Nah! Fuck out of here with that!" Both of them laughed, of course.
" Awww, Aubrey! Now you can have Lana take care of you! I'm sure she wouldn't mind making house calls!" Nai and Chubbs are about to get put out.
" Aight, chill Nai. You know he's sensitive." Chubbs sits down, and she sits right in his lap.
"That he is... Aubrey, do you need surgery?"
" As of right now, no. But who knows."
" Aw, ok. Well, next time, don't be trying to show off on my baby." She kissed Chubbs. I gave both of them a look, but I didn't say anything. We sat talking for a while until Solána came back. She looked at Chubbs and Nai, raising her eyebrows.
" So uhhhh... ok! You two look comfortable!" Nai smiled.
" Oh, I am...." Solána looks at me.
" I see that you're all wrapped up. You're being prescribed some medication, but... take it easy! You'll be able to leave in about an hour. Since something canceled our dinner, I'll come over." I looked from Chubbs to Lana in shock.
" Come over? Uhh, are you sure? I don't want to cause any problems for you."
" I said that we could have dinner, so if you're up for it......" I grinned, but immediately frowned as a sharp pain went through my knee.
" Shit!!! I need something." Solána stared at me.
" Here! You take this, we won't be having dinner." She hands me a pill.
" Rain check?" I winced in pain.
" Sure!" She smiled. Fuck you, knee!!
Solána (The next day)
Today was my day off, and I had little to do. I did some cleaning around the house. Dre is messy as fuck. He's worse than a child. I'm tired of cleaning up after a grown-ass man. Nai would've fussed me out if she saw me cleaning up his mess. My phone rang just as I was about to vacuum.
" Hi, Ms. Val." I smiled.
" Hi, sweetie! How are you?"
"I'm good, Ms. Val! What are you up to? Enjoying the sun?"
" Oh yes! Loving this house that Aubrey purchased for us! Someday you'll move in." I could tell she was smiling.
" Me? Move in? What are you going on about, Ms. Val?" I picked up a few things that were on my closet floor.
" You know Aubrey likes you a lot, Solána."
" Ms. Val......"
" He does! He talks about you all the time. I had to go in his wallet this morning and guess what I saw? A picture of you. You were younger. You were beautiful then and still beautiful now!" I couldn't help but smile!!
" Thank you, Ms. Val."
" So, are you coming over today? We could use the company. It's just Aubrey and me. Well, my nurse will be here." Ms. Val is something.
"Who are you talking to, Ma?" I heard in the background.
" Your future wife. She's coming over to keep us company!" Did she just say, future wife?
" My future... wife? Ma......"
" It's Solána! Say hi!!" I couldn't help but laugh.
" Hey, Lana!"
" Hi, Aubrey." I smiled.
" So we'll be expecting you, Solána! I'm going to go and make sure he eats his breakfast! My poor baby is in so much pain."
" Ok, I'll see you two in an hour or so. I'll spend the whole day with you." I said while picking up something to wear.
" And Aubrey, too!"
" Ma!"
" Ok, Ms. Val. I'll see you in a few!" We both hung up, and I received a text right away.
Aubrey😊: Sorry about that. If you don't want to come over, it's cool. I don't want to cause any trouble.
Me: It's fine. It's my day off, anyway. I was just cleaning. I'll see you soon.
Aubrey😊: 🤩
" Well, today should be interesting."
