Huening Kai was spending his last week before debuting catching with his family and friends.
One of his closest friends, y/n, had flown out from the US to congratulate Kai on his future success.
That's when y/n met a brand new hybe trainee named Kim Minji.
Minji and Y/n quickly hit it off. Although, Y/n spoke great Korean.... Y/n loved that Minji could speak English pretty well. They even bounded over studying abroad in Canada.
That week went by fast, but it wasn't long until y/n returned to South Korea.
In the summer of that same year, Y/n returned to South Korea. Y/n and Minji dated that whole summer causing Kai to try to convince y/n to move to Korea, but it didn't work.
Y/n decided to go back home to finish school and also... y/n didn't want to distract Minji from her trainee studies. Minji seemed really serious about becoming an idol.
- Y/N POV -
It had been a little over 2 years since I was last in Korea. It was the weirdest feeling ever but this was new home so I'd better get used to it.
Luckily, Kai and his family were helping me get adjusted. The TXT boys were being really nice and friendly too.

I happened to stand behind Minji at hybe coffee shop. I build up the courage to speak to hear and leaned in to say, "So I take it since you're still roaming the Hybe Building that you're still a trainee?"
Suddenly, I felt Kai's big ass hand land heavily on my shoulder and he said... "Minji-ssi had already debuted. Her group literally debuted less than 6 months ago and they're already the nation's girl-group!"
"Oh, well I guess congratulations!" I responded, looking straight at Minji.
"Seriously, how could you not know this?" Kai asked me.
"I don't really listen to K-pop anymore. I mean besides you... I don't really care for it!" I responded laughing awkwardly.
"Uh, I'm telling Jaleh that!" Kai teased.
"Hey! I listen to her group too!" I responded.
"Anywayyy, thanks. I'll see you guys later!" Minji interjected our little bickering then waved her goodbyes.
We ordered our drinks then Kai went back to teasing me.... "I saw you getting all nervous trying to talk to her!"
"I haven't seen her in year. Of course I'm nervous!" I huffed back.
"You sure it's not because you still like her?" Kai teased making me freeze for a moment.
"We broke up years ago. I haven't even thought about her since then, believe me it's not because of that!" I answered him sternly.
I really hadn't even thought about Minji like that. If I did it was because I had a really good memory of my summer that year.
"Sureeee!" He continued to annoy me.
Our order was called and we were getting ready to leave.
"Oh shoot! I have a meeting still!" Kai suddenly exclaimed.
"It'll take like 30 minutes. Just chill around till then and we'll head over to my parents. Mom made is making rice soup for you so don't leave!" Kai yelled as he ran off to his meeting.
I sighed then sat on an empty table.
Suddenly, a person stood in front of me as I pulled out my phone.
"Mind if I joined you?" The familiar voice asked.
Of course, it was Minji.
"Ah, no. Go ahead!" I replied.
"So, are you here on another vacation?" She asked with a cute smile on her face.
I put my phone away and gave her my full undivided attention. "No, I actually move here to study," I answered her.
"Ahhhh," Minji said awkwardly.
I nodded and sipped on my coffee.
It went quiet and awkward.
Suddenly, a song I had heard almost everywhere I went started to play at the coffee bar.
"Jeez, this song again!" I complained under my breath.
"You don't like this song?" Minji suddenly asked.
"I haven't really heard all of it to say that.... it's just freaking everywhere!" I answered her.
"Do you know who sings song?" Minji asked.
"I don't know... but they must be really popular for this song to be literally everywhere!" I sighed out.
Minji giggled then gave me cute, "Wanna guess who sings it?"
I smiled at her mannerisms then my jaw dropped when things started to click.
"Noooo! Really?!" I exclaimed.
Minji laughed at my reaction... to the point of clapping her hands.
"Yah! Is it really?" I asked again.
"Yes!" Minji answered still giggling a bit.
"Woah, Kai wasn't kidding. With the song playing everywhere like that, it's like Girl's Generation on their debut!" I exclaimed still in disbelief.
Minji just kept giggling.
"Remember when you had 'Cat & Dog' stuck in your head all summer so you kept randomly barking at me?!" Minji laughed out.
I froze.
I froze for so long that Minji's cute laughter started to fade. I quickly snapped myself out of it, not trying to make things awkward.. I then laughed a bit.
"Yeah, I remember!" I answered her with a reminiscing smile.
"I remember you kept telling me you'd break up with me if I didn't stop being weird!" I teased her.
"Well look who did the dumping!" Minji teased back.
"Hey! It was a mutual breakup!" I laughed out.
We both started cracking up at this point.
"No, but seriously. I am really happt to see you made your dreams come true. Guess we both made the right decision back then," I suddenly said feeling really happy for the both of us.
"I guess, we did...." Minji answered with a light blush creeping on to her cheeks.
"YO, Y/N!" I suddenly her Kai's voice yelling at me from across the room.
I turned to give him a death glare and he waved at me like an idiot, trying to annoy me.
"Well, I gotta go but here's my number. I'd love to catch up and be friends if that's okay with you. Feel free to text me if you want!" I told Minji ask I wrong my number down on her cup of coffee then made my way over to Kai.
"You owe my 10 won! You totally still like her!" Kai teased as we made our way out the building.
"Please, this wasn't a bet and we're just friends.... I hope!" I responded whispering the last part.
"Mhm, because exes always ended up being friends!" Kai sassed me.
I rolled my eyes as him then followed him into the van.
We made our way to Kai's parents and his mom was already waiting for us.
"Jaleh!" I exclaimed at the sight of the Huening dongsaeng.
"Y/N-AH!" She squeeled then ran up to hug me.
I hadn't seen here since I moved. So this was a pleasant surprise.
