Sophie couldn't think.

Couldn't function.

Didn't know what she was doing, thinking, or where she was going.

She was frantic.

Simply frantic.

To do what she needed to do in fifteen minutes.

She could feel the ghost -- or whatever -- of Oralie trailing behind her, her mouth shut in a thin line.

She was the sacrifice.

She, her mother--

The occurrence of the night eight years ago and the thing that was happening now was connected.

She thought she was a monster when she killed her--

Wait.

Didn't Veta and Oralie say that it had to be her to kill Fin?

Sophie felt the world around her sway, threatening to collapse as she got back to where her friends were waiting for her.

"Oralie?" Biana whispered. "What?"

"I'm just a thought. I'll be gone after the Sacrifice." Her mother informed, probably not helping with the growing confusion.

Sophie averted her eyes from Fin, who was staring at her as if he knew what would happen. Maybe he was a telepath and knew who would be his official murderer.

"Alright, where's Maruca?" Her voice wavered. "I need her. Now. Keefe, go find her. Tam. Where's Tam? I need--"

She felt her heart being ripped to pieces, stress driving her crazy.

"Shh." Keefe squeezed her hand. "I don't know half the things that's going through your head--"

"And if I explained all of it, then the whole world will end--"

He stepped closer. "No. I'm saying, calm down. Let the amazing Foster brain get to work. Because, no offense, but if you keep this up, you'll die before anything happens."

He smirked, and Sophie found herself trying to calm down.

This boy always knew how to calm her down.

"Alright. But Keefe, I really need you to find Maruca... And Tam."

"We're right here, Sophie. Gosh, are you blind?" An amused voice said, and Sophie reeled around to see Maruca and Tam, both sporting a similar look of anxiety.

"Sorry, it's just that, um, well, guys..." This was getting nowhere. Looking at Keefe's raised eyebrow, Sophie took a deep breath. "We need to get the humans in one spot, and surround them with a force field. Tam, using your telekenisis, you need to get them out of there, after, after the s-sacrifice."

Sophie didn't know what was happening to her. She was meant to be strong. To be a leader. And here, when they needed her the most, she was breaking. Getting out of hand.

Tam and Maruca got to work immediately, and Sophie looked around wildly to see if there was anything else she could possibly do. But Keefe grabbed her hand before she could let her mind wander again.

Cool breezes erupted in her mind again, and she fought to grab onto it, she fought to believe that everything was going to be alright.

"Thanks." She mumbled weakly, and didn't resist when he pulled her into his arms.

"Tell me what to do." He whispered to her. "Anything, Foster, and I swear I will do it."

Sophie pulled away a little to look at him. His ice blue eyes were set determinedly, and Sophie felt her stomach twist.

Not now, don't say you realize it now.

Sophie gulped, stepping away from him. "We need to help."

The humans were getting more out of hand than ever, with more of them piling in, ready to fight. The first thing she needed to do was close the portal temporarily.

Or get the human's minds off coming in here to fight.

She conjured up a liquid that could transform anyone into anything.

Because what better way was there to distract people than having a celebrity in their presence?

"Hey, Keefe?" She called out. "I've got something I need you to do."

................................................................................

Now that her distraction -- ahem -- and the incoming humans were out of the way, she had to find a way to get the humans in one place.

But it proved to be unnecessary, for when she got to where Tam and Maruca were, the humans were already trapped under the force field.

"Sophie, I really need you to hurry up with whatever you're going to do, b-because this big of a force field requires so much en-energy." Maruca's voice shook.

"Alright. Thanks, guys." Sophie said.

She walked over to Fin, who had his fingers wrung together, so tight that it looked like it was going to snap any second.

"Hey, you." She whispered. "You ready to do this?"

"No." He exhaled deeply. "But... I know I have to. I know I should."

She looked down at the ground. "You don't have to, you know."

"But if I don't, then what? What would happen to the world? If one sacrifice, if my sacrifice could save millions of lives, then... I consider it a life well spent." He stared into her eyes, green into brown.

"Okay." Sophie's voice cracked. "Okay."

"Sophie, you need to hurry, we only have approximately six minutes left." Biana called out.

"Got it." She answered. "Hey, Bi, can you, Fitz, and literally every elf out there get yourselves out of here? When this spell works, then it's going to work on everything. You don't want to forget about ourselves, do you?"

Biana's face paled. "No, of course not. Fitz, c'mon."

Sophie turned back to Fin and Oralie. "Alright."

She pictured Veta, laying on the ground.

She pictured her mother, looking so helpless.

She pictured all the cries heard today.

She had to do this.

She conjured a medler, and the weight of it pulled her down; she was just standing there, weak.

Do it, Sophie, do it.

She forced herself to look at Fin, who had his lips set in a thin line. But his eyes were open, staring directly at her.

"I'm so sorry." A sob escaped Sophie's lips. "I wish there were a better solution than this, Fin, Oralie."

Fin nodded. "Yeah. Me too."

The clock was ticking -- fast.

It was now or never.

Now or never.

Her body was pumping as one, but it was broken into a million pieces as well.

"Thanks for accepting me for who I am, Fin... You will always be in my heart, as a hero."

She closed her eyes and brought the medler up.

One life gone.

................................................................................

Fin and Oralie's body got outlined with blazing, blinding lights -- but Sophie couldn't tear her gaze away as her legs gave in and she crumpled to the ground.

"Linh, help me out here." Tam's strained voice came from somewhere in the right, and Sophie ripped her eyes open again to see them trying to move the entire human population.

Slowly but surely, they moved towards the portal, and Keefe bounced in at the last second.

Fin and Oralie were simply pure light now -- circling the whole area.

"I got this now." Sophie said to Linh, Tam, Keefe, and Maruca. "Get yourselves out of here."

"But--"

"Go!" Sophie shouted, her eyes blazing. She took control of the humans with every ounce of telekensis she had left, and she glared at her friends until they went.

Good.

The light from her friend and mother began moving faster, making the whole place brighter.

Linh, Tam, and Maruca jumped in the entry to Atlantis, but Keefe was still there, waiting, waiting...

Go. Please. Sophie begged, transmitting the message. Please. If you ever cared about me, leave.

I could never do that, Sophie. You know I can't. He thought back. I can't lose you again.

Sophie looked back at the human, everyone getting into the portal--

Now she had to run back.

Keefe was still there, and the light from Fin and Oralie forbid her to see anything else.

Using the last wisp of energy, she pushed Keefe down the entry.

Then, she tried to move as fast as she could, but the mental push wasn't working. Her energy had been spent entirely.

Therefore, she was running as fast as a two-year-old.

It would've been hilarious if her memory didn't count on it.

Then, just as she leaped towards the entry, the whole place got consumed by light, taking away all the memory of the elves along with it.

Hey!

Do you think Sophie made it in time?

Or do you think she won't have any memory of them?

Ehehe.

The true question is -- am I evil or not?
