Chapter 2 is ready. Tell me what you think :D
The rumbling of my stomach woke me from my unrestful slumber. A deep chill had set into my bones as I slept that made moving my stiff bones a painful task. Popping the
bones back into their joints I thought back on my situation. It had been two months
since I was kicked out of my house and the food scraps that I had managed to
grab had run out five days ago. As there was no place that I could call a safe
haven I had no chose but to resort to calling alleyways and gutters my home.
Crawling out of a small hole in the wall that I had been living in for the past
week I set off in search of something to sustain me for the next few days.
As I picked my way tough garbage that was littering the roads and back alleys a new smell
hit my nose. It was completely different to the rotten food stench that had
surrounded me since I left what was now my home. The smell was something that I
had not smelled in a long time. It smelled like a warm fire and hot food. I
found myself drawn to the smell and before I knew it I was off. Running down
streets I followed the smell deeper and deeper into the city. As the smell got
stronger I started to realise that I had never been this far into the city
before. I had no idea where I was or how to get back to my little hole in the
wall. Deciding to carry on, even with no clue as to where I was, I followed the
smell until I came to a rundown barn. The wood used to build it was rotten and
even missing in places. Slivers of light shone through gaps in the wood
accompanied by hush whispers. I looked around to try and find a clue to tell me
where I was and what was going on.
Opening the barn door just enough to slip in, instant warmth surrounded me like a blanket.
The hushed whispers were loader now enabling me to understand part of what was
being said.
"There's not much time left. We have to strike now. If we delay it any longer I don't think
we will be able to win." One voice rose above all the others. Turning I attempted
to locate the speaker and was able to spot him on the other side of the barn
talking with someone. Due to where I was standing I could not note make out who
he was talking to but I was able to see the speaker. He had spiky black hair
that was held back by a strip of fabric and piercing blue eyes could be seen
shining under the shadow of the fabric. His clothes were covered by a black
cloak but a flash of silver from underneath was all I needed to know that he
had some kind of knife with him. However I was too far away to tell if it was a
sword or a dagger. A quick glance around the room told me that I was the only
one there that was not wearing a cloak. Turning still, the smell of hot food
that had lead me here hit my nose again and left my senses tingling. Spotting a
large caldron with people gathering around it I make my way over in the hopes
of grabbing some free food. As I drew near I could hear someone addressing the
crowd in the background, but I was too focused on the food to care about what
was being said. Two voices called out suddenly,
"Only one serving left, who wants it?"
"Would anyone like to volunteer?"
Determined to get that last bowl of food I raise my hand and yell with all my might, "ME!!!"
Silence quickly covered the barn as all eyes turned to look at me. Feeling slightly self-conscious I slowly lower my hand thinking that the yell had probably been too much. Looking around I notice the black haired man from before standing on what could have
passed for a stage and looking at me strangely. He was accompanied by a man
much smaller than him who looked like he had just won some grand prize. Feeling
someone grab my arm I was pushed through the crowd and forced onto the stage. The
shorter man waddled over to me, his cloak open just enough to see his clothes
straining to keep him all in. as he drew closer the feeling of self-consciousness
grew until all I wanted was to run back to my little hole in the wall and never
come out.
Reaching me, he grabbed my hand and threw it up in the air, still clutching it tightly. Taking
a breath he addressed the crowd.
"All hail the new leader of our army. The Rebel Army!!!" cheers erupted from the crowd,
some people grabbed the person nearest to them and hugged them for all that
they were worth. Others just stood there cheering with great tears running in
rivers down their face. I on the other hand just stood there, frozen. Leader of the Rebel Army? There had to be some kind of mistake. All I wanted was that last serving of food. How did I get myself into this? On the other hand how do I get myself out?
