"what?" mason answered bitterly at the other end of the line
"wow you answered quickly," thea laughed shortly.
"yeah, well what do you want?"
"i'm just checking up on you!" she sighed, mason's irritation towards her taking her by surprise.
"well i'm fine."
"i don't believe you."
"well that's seems like a you problem doesn't it?" mason answered back and thea could practically hear his eyes rolling. "look i'm fine, okay? now im gonna hang up-"
"wait wait wait!" thea rushed out rapidly. even though he was in a sour mood, she wanted to know how he was actual doing.
she heard a sigh on the other end on the line before some shuffling as he made himself comfortable.
"how'd you get home last night?" she asked softly.
"i didn't."
"what?"
"i didn't go home," he explained, having calmed down now, "dec brought me back to his 'cause he was worried...or something. so i slept in his spare bedroom and im still here now."
"oh," thea responded, "well...thats good then, that you're with him, yeah?"
"i guess so," he mumbled.
"talk to me."
"...i am talking to you?"
"mason!" the german girl sighed exasperatedly.
"okay okay!" he huffed, "i'm an absolute fuckhead."
"mason! you-"
"no!" he snapped, "you wanted me to talk so im talking.
thea sealed her lips shut.
"it's all my fault. its my fault i went and saw her again. it was my fault i fell for her stupid tricks. it was my fault for not listening to your advice. its my fault for drinking so much as a result of seeing her."
thea wanted to butt in but knew he would get even more pissed if she did.
"i honestly wish i didn't have feelings for her. at all. it would make stuff so much easier," he sighed, before his voice started to wobble. "i...im just such a mess. it feels like i ca-can't do anything right lately. and...and even after all of this i think- i think i still like her."
he sniffed, clearing his throat before carrying on. "i'm just so tired of her messing with me. and every time i try to block her out of my life, she seems to worm her way back in, no matter how hard i try. or-or maybe im just not trying hard enough."
"i wasn't enough for-for her," hsi voice cracked and thea could hear him starting to cry, "i-i just feel like im not enough...for anyone."
"oh mason, you are more than enough," thea jumped in, feeling as if this was the right time to start talking again. "don't let anyone - especially a stupid girl like her - make you feel as if you aren't enough or worthy of love. okay, do you hear me?"
"loud and clear, becker, loud and clear," he sighed, "i'm sorry for being a dick to you."
"its alright," she shrugged it off
"no. its not alright though," mason spoke, "you're only trying to look out for me and im making it harder than it needs to be."
"it's okay," she spoke softly, "i promise mase."
there was a beat of silence.
"and i'm sorry for throwing up on your shoes."
"oh dear. i don't know if i'll be able to forgive you for that one," thea laughed.
"were they new ones?"
"yep. the ones kai got me for christmas."
"oh fuck me," the brunette boy groaned in annoyance at himself."i can buy you new ones, if you want?"
"nah its okay," thea dismissed, "they look alright now but they still have a bad smell."
"jesus christ," mason muttered.
there was a comfortable silence between the two again.
"i love you, y'know?" thea spoke up nervously after a minute, "you're one of my best friends and i care about you. it crushed me, seeing you like this-"
"oh my god, im your best friend?"
"well, one of them," she corrected.
"have you called chilly your best friend, before?" he asked quickly.
"well not really-"
thea could hear whoops and cheers in the background of the other end of the line.
'chilly can suck my duck,' he laughed loudly.
"why must you boys make everything a competition?" the german girl scoffed, rolling her eyes. "anyway, im gonna let you get back to your sleep now.
"thank you."
"no problem."
"no I mean it, thank you," he repeated, "thankyou for everything."
"it really is okay, mase!" she spoke honestly, "remember to eat and drink!"
"yes! yes!" he huffed at her persistence, although it was endearing.
"bye!!
