chapter 9- cherry chapstick
the clock in the wheelers basement read 1:58 am
a huff left olives lips as forced her body up she looked over at her peacefully sleeping friends feeling envious
she stumbled out the door putting on her shoe as her other hand held her jacket
the cold summer air hitting her lungs made a blissful feeling
oppose to the body heat of the sleeping teenagers
olive let out a sigh at the stars
she sat on the grass with her knees pressed to her
a thousand thoughts running through her head but the most important one was max
max the girl who held her heart for seven months
the girl who olive used every wishing star on
It's July.
the thoughts echoed olives brain as she remembered the stupid bet she made
the stupid bet that Dustin Henderson swore was going to come true
olive loved to prove her best friend wrong but now she sat here feeling empty at the idea of him being wrong
max mayfield was like the stars and when they shined that's all olive cared about
max would probably tell her that was cheesy but it was the only way olive could justify caring for someone so much
she was only fourteen she spent countless nights wondering how she could ever feel this way for someone?
"bad dream?" she turned around startled by the sudden voice
"hey.. are you okay?" olive replied as the girl sat down right next to her

olive nods as the two go into comfortable silence
"every-time we have a sleepover I always find you outside" max points out
"I hate my house I'd much rather be outside" olive mumbles

"tell me something olive?"
"anything" she replies
"why won't you let me teach you how to skateboard?" olive smiles weakly
"I think you should teach holly instead .. she thinks it's like the coolest thing ever"
"I could teach you both you know"
"max I know how to skateboard" Olive comments
"you know how to skateboard?!" Max squeals as she moves closer to olive
"max.. I learned how to skateboard for you" olive states as her eyes stay glued to the ground
"you learned how to skateboard for me?" Max asks in disbelief
"mhm I made will help me all summer.. I know how much you hate how the whole party ride bikes and I felt bad .." she looked over at the stunned girl feeling like she was drowning
"you learned how to skateboard for me? Like
For me?" max repeats in disbelief
"it wasn't that big of a deal..." olive shrugged as she felt blood rush to her face
she hadn't told anyone expect will about learning how to skateboard
she always thought it was embarrassing and max was proving her point
"yes it is!" she watches how max's eyes lit up she felt like she was dreaming
the way max was looking at her
how close they were.. everything about it felt unreal
"stop looking at me like that" olive whispers as her face burned bright red
"olive that's like the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me" max says
"that! that's the nicest thing? you're standards are low mayfield"
"guess that's why I have you to raise them right?"
"I just care about you max... more than I've ever cared about anyone else" olives words turn into a mumble as her eyes flicker from max and to the ground
"really?" max asks
"I really care about you " olive repeats as she nods her head
"I can't believe you learned how to skateboard for me!"
"max! Stop I'm already embarrassed-" she got cup off by max cupping her face
"what are you-" max leaned forward lightly pressing her lips to olives
the feeling felt much more intense than anything olive had ever felt before
it all felt like a dream
especially how fast max pulled away
her eyes slowly opened as the shock coated her the blood rushed through her skin
her mouth went dry and she tried to open her mouth to say anything, anything at all
but she couldn't
max searched her face for any indication that she didn't like the kiss
"I care about you a lot too" max stated
olives heart fluttered "what?"
"earlier you said you cared about me a lot?" olive nodded
"you like me?"
I'm definitely dreaming
"a lot" max grinned as her giggle echoed olives ears
"what about Lucas-"
"I like you" max repeats
"I've liked you since Halloween!" Olive exclaims making max giggle
"really I couldn't tell" olive titled her head to side as she realized max was being sarcastic
"it was obvious?" Her face was bright red at this point
"yeah I mean when will accidentally told me-"
"will told you!" olive exclaimed max's smile turned into a smirk as she watched the panic in her eyes
"I can't believe him! I knew he would-"
"shut up and kiss me" max interrupted
"great line where did you get it from?" olive teased
"oh shut up"
"and kiss you?" olive mocked
"I'm leaving" max tried to stand up making olive reach for her hand and move to her knees
olive reached up and cupped max's face pressed her lips messily against max's as her balance weakened
her senses were all taken over by max the way her lips had a faint taste of cherry
the smell of her peach scented hair
and the intense feeling her lips made
olive couldn't believe it was real
but there max was sitting in-front of her with their lips connected
this was the night olive wheeler finally had her first ever kiss

"I found him" elevens voice who's through the dead silent room
olive looked over at max feeling her face flush as she remembered last night and her swollen lips
max looked over before olive could look away fast enough
making a grin on max's face olive blushed looking away
"where is he?" Mike asks
"woods.. he's with.. wills mom" el states slowly
olive got pushed back into reality "what?"
"he's with my mom?"
"what are they doing?" max asked
"they're going to Ill-annoy" eleven states slowly
"olive! Mike! Breakfast!" Karen yells from upstairs
"one second!" Olive replies
"not now mom!" Mike screams
"Illinois?" Olive repeats
"like the state?" Mike questions
the whole group sat around the the coffee table will sat perched up with his hand on olives shoulder
"the state of Illinois?"
"I'll-annoy" eleven shrugged

olive leaned against the bathroom door as max helped eleven with her infamous bloody nose
olive watches as el titled her head back to look at the brown bruise placed on her neck from Billy
"does it still hurt?" Max asked
"only when I talk"
"well then it's a good thing you're not Mike then" "blah blah blah blah you'd be in constant pain" a giggle burst from olives lips
before she walked out the bathroom and took a spot next to will
"something's not right I can't get hopper off my back all summer"
"now all of sudden he's hiking with wills mom to Illinois"
"Joyce" olive corrected
"that's not important what is important is Dustin being MIA this all can't just be a coincidence!" Mike exclaims
"What does it matter" Lucas replies "the bottom line is they're not here"
"up to us to do what exactly-" olive grabbed will's hand and dragged him into the corner of the basement
"what olive?" Will asked
"did you tell max?"
his face went pale it was like olive could already hear him searching for excuses
"it was a accident I swear!"
"when was it" olive demanded
"yesterday when we were setting up for the "sauna test" it was a accident! I promise!" He pleaded
"it's okay will.. she um kissed me last night" olive chuckled dryly
"she what!" olive nodded as her lips pressed into a smile
"this is-" will got cut off by mikes voice
"olive! Will! stop flirting and come and help us figure this out"
"figure out what? el knows what to do.. trust her Mike" olive said "I'm not flirting with will either"
everyone looked at the bathroom door "what are they still doing in there"
"I don't know girls just like hanging out in bathrooms" Lucas states "of course apparently not olive"
olive stuck her tongue out at lucas who just laughed it off
"why"
"I mean I don't know"
"they're conspiring against me"
"oh please you think that about everyone Mike" olive rolls her eyes as she collapsed on the couch
"that's what you're concerned about right now?" olive sat up on the couch as she sat in the "terrible posture" her mother always yelled at her for

"I thought it was already over!" will whisper yelled
"It's not over okay? We are just taking a break" Mike defends

"I would have killed to see that" olive grinned as Mike flipped her off
"it wasn't a break!" max yelled from the bathroom
"you guys do realize we can still hear everything your saying, right?" olive bit her lip trying to hold back a laugh
"conspiring I told you conspiring!" Mike whisper yelled
"oh Mike" olive laughs as she goes over to pat her brother on the shoulder

a/n- hi! I finally updated after being locked out of this app for like a week and then school is just so much right now
I told you guys would love me for this chapter.. but I'm afraid it might be short lived .. we will see I guess
question- what do you guys think mikes zodiac is because him and olive are twins (obviously) and I'm just curious
