'alright children, settle down, yesterday we were informed that a new student would be joining us, and today he is here, waiting in the hallway'
the other students started to perk up in interest, it had been a while since they had a new student join the class, miles, however, wasn't too interested, he was too busy reading his law book that his father had gifted him last week, larry, however, was excited, maybe he would finally have a friend, the teacher then walked outside and looked over to her left to see phoenix standing by the wall
'alright, come on in sweetie'
she said in a sweet, welcoming voice, phoenix held onto his black sketchbook in his hands as he shyly nodded and ducked his head down, walking behind the teacher a little, he stopped halfway through, peeking inside the classroom, he felt his anxiety rise seeing all the people in the room, the teacher turned around, saw his reaction and smiled reassuringly
'it's alright dear, no need to be shy'
he blushed a tint of red as he hesitantly walked inside, standing in front of the entire class, the teacher was by his side
'okay class, this is our new student, phoenix wright'
the other students waved and smiled as phoenix hid behind his sketchbook a little, miles perked up his head and curiosity, and his eyes slightly widened as he saw the new kid, he looked a little gothic, wearing a black hoodie with black pants and converse, and his hair was a little wired, being done up in loose spikes and his bangs hanging out in from of his face, but he looked pretty cute with his pretty deep blue eyes and shy little red blush on his cheeks, miles felt his heartbeat increase, as he averted his eyes back down to his book
'would you like to introduce yourself to the class phoenix'
he shook his head no, gripping his sketchbook tighter, the teacher nodded, understanding
'alright then, why don't you take a sweet next to miles'
she said, pointing to the only open desk, phoenix nodded as he walked over to his desk, setting his back on the ground and his sketchbook on the desk, it was currently break-time so the students could do whatever they wanted, miles felt his hands become sweaty as he tried to focus on his law book, he noticed from the corner of his eye, phoenix reading the other page, he looked up at him
'um.., why do you keep looking at my law book'
he cringed at how intentionally rude he sounded, he cringed, even more, when he saw the new kid reaction, he blushed red as he spoke in a quiet small voice, miles mentally kicked himself in his head, he always had a hard time talking to people and making friends, he had the worst social skills
'i-i'm sorry, ..i-i just noticed it was about law...'
miles eyes slightly widened
'w-wait you know about law?!'
he nodded, seeming to ease up a little
'u-um, ..y-yeah, ..a-a little, ...i-i wanna be a defense lawyer when i grow up, ..a-and i read about it sometimes...'
miles felt his excitement and butterflies fluttering in his stomach, he never met anyone else who had the same interest and hobbies as him, everyone in his class thought he was weird and tended to stay away from him, maybe he would have a friend finally!!
'you do!!'
he cried out, he blushed a bit red at how excited he sounded and tried to keep his enthusiasm to himself, he felt his heart flutter again when he saw phoenix smile a little at his excitement and nodded again
'w-well!!, my father is a defense lawyer!!, and i wanna become one too!!, just like him!!, and he even gave me some of his old law books he used to read when he was studying'
'r-really?, t-that's really cool!!'
'boooring!!'
miles pouted as he sighed in irritation, great, larry butz, the biggest idiot and the most obnoxious class clown in the whole school had to ruin this for him, miles wouldn't consider him a friend, but he would occasionally talk to him when larry would go to him nagging about his crushes and what girls he was into, he was pretty sure he had dated almost all the girls in his class, which miles still never understood why any girl would fall for him
'hey!!, you're the new kid phoenix right'
he nodded sheepishly
'cool!, i'm larry butz!!, the coolest kid in the whole school!!, you wanna be friends!!'
he asked, flashing his big toothy grin, phoenix stared at him, unsure on how to answer, he never really met anyone who wanted to be his friend, phoenix fidgeted with his fingers as he replied back
'..u-um, ..s-sure i guess'
'awesome!!, let's go play at recess'
'u-um, ...o-okay, ..m-miles do you want to come?..'
miles was gonna say no, but he wanted to keep talking to phoenix, plus with the look, he was giving him, how could he say no
'sure'
'whao really!!'
larry cried out, miles was always the loner of the school, he always hung out by himself, phoenix perked up, smiling a little
'..o-okay!!'
at recess, the three hung out underneath the tree, larry was nearly falling asleep from boredom with miles showing his law book to phoenix

'...w-what i like to too for fun is write down all the stories, a-and then compare them to see the w-which ones are n-not c-consistent, a-and see what evidence f-fits which scenario the best'
miles stared at him, very impressed, this new kid was smart

phoenix blushed as he bashfully smiled

'r-really, ...t-thank you'
'ughhh you guys are killing me with your boringness!!, can we please do something fun!!'
'your the one who wanted to hang out with us in the first place!!'
'g-guys, please don't fight!!'
miles and larry both looked at phoenix, who was giving his sad puppy dog eyes, they both could agree on one thing, don't make phoenix sad, so they relented their argument for now
'w-why don't we play a game then?, ..l-like maybe hide and seek?'
'yeah hide and seek!!, I'll go first, you two hide!!'
'o-okay'
miles sighed but complied, putting his book away in his bag, leaving it a bit open, he went with the phoenix to hide together, larry saw the little pocket of money sticking out of miles backpack, he glanced over his shoulder, making sure nobody was looking before he snatched it and quickly put it into his own and began to count
'l-larry is still p-pretty sad'
phoenix said as he looked back at larry with a worried expression, during the last round of their hide and seek, they both found larry in an instant, resulting in him losing, miles sighed as he went into his bag, they were both the last people in the lunch line, so they took their time
'don't worry, he's just being dramatic'
'..a-are you sure?'
'Definitely, you should see how he acts when girls reject him'
'g-girls?'
he asked, miles sighed again
'Basically he has a crush on every single girl in the entire school, i'm pretty sure he's dated at least half the girls in our class'
'o-oh..., w-well what about you miles, h-have you ever had a crush?'
miles shook his head
'no, ...have you?'
he noticed how his cheeks became a little red
'...s-some c-cartoon characters and characters f-from books i-i thought were r-really cool...'
'so like fictional character crushes?'
he almost laughed at how embarrassed phoenix seemed to be, miles didn't think it was wired, he thought it was cute
'..k-kinda..'
miles held back a laugh and went back to looking for his money, however, when he looked into the bag, the money was gone
'Someone took my money!!'
miles cried out, going through his bag, phoenix eye's slightly widened as he helped him go through his back, when it was time for lunch, miles tried paying with his money but found out it was stolen, miles frowned when found nothing, phoenix then went through his bag, he had about ten dollars, which was enough to pay for only himself, he looked over at miles and held it out to him
'h-here, you can have mine if you want'
he offered, miles stared at him in surprise
'what?!, but you only have ten dollars, that's enough for only one, how are you gonna eat?'
'...d-don't worry it's okay'
'no phoenix i can't just take it from you'
'm-miles it's fine really!!'
'no it's not!!, i'm not taking it!'
phoenix then had another idea, he bought his lunch, but then he took the plastic knife
'h-how about we split it then, y-you have the other half'
miles stared at him in surprise, he has never met anyone so giving and nice before, this kid was willing to give him his money and food so he wouldn't starve, miles felt his heart flutter as he nodded
'..i-i guess that's okay, ...thank you'
after lunch was over, however, the entire class found out and decided to try and find out who it was, larry was doing his best to play cool as he was silently panicking while trying to figure out who was the one, a random girl suddenly shoved phoenix into the center of the classroom
'i bet it was the new kid!!'
one girl cried out, phoenix looked shocked as everyone started to crowd around him, miles frowned as he stared at them in disbelief
'yeah, he's been really quiet and wired all day'
'plus he was with him the entire day!!'
phoenix felt tears perk in his eyes as he began to hyperventilate, clutching his arms tightly as he tried to calm himself down, miles felt his heart break, seeing him like this
'...i-i didn't,. ...i-i wouldn't do something like that..!!'
'liar!!, i bet you're just fake crying to look innocent'
another girl commented, shoving him a little roughly, phoenix shook as he backed up wall of the room, feeling intimidated, never in his life had he ever stolen anything, he wasn't the one, but nobody believed him, they all kept talking over him and yelling in his face
'now phoenix, please return the money to miles'
'..-but i didn't take it---'
'admit liar!!, you took it'
no matter what he said, everyone kept talking over him, all yelling and saying mean things to him, phoenix started to hyperventilate more, feeling a panic attack coming on, larry bit his thumb, he felt so bad because HE was the one to take it, but he didn't want to out himself, at the same time, however, he didn't want his only friend to get in trouble
'HEY, BACK OFF AND LEAVE HIM ALONE!!'
miles yelled as he stood next to phoenix, glaring at everyone
'if he was the one who took it, then why did he offer me his money and even split it his lunch with me?!'
'h-he did what?!'
the same girl cried out
' if he stole it, then why would he offer to buy me food?, it doesn't take any sense, and also, you shouldn't yell at people and accuse them of things without even knowing the full story!!, there is no evidence to prove anything that phoenix stole it!!'
'yeah leave him alone!!'
larry said, backing him up, everyone started to murmur amount themselves, the teacher even felt ashamed, she got down to his level, and felt her guilty rise when she saw how badly he was shaking and crying to himself in his knees, while miles sat by his side, trying to comfort him
'phoenix, are you alright sweetie'
he didn't respond, he was still hiding on his knees
'hey it's okay, i know you didn't take it!, I know you didn't!!'
miles said, trying to reassure him, phoenix sniffled as he wiped away his tears, the teacher frowned as she gave him a tissue, he used it to wipe away his tears
'phoenix i'm so sorry, i shouldn't have assumed you were the one, it was very sweet of you to offer your own money and food to miles'
he said nothing as he kept his head down, using his bangs to hide his face, not wanting to meet anyone in the eyes, larry got to his side and held his hand
'miss teacher!!, can me and miles take him to get some water?'
she nodded
'of course honey, please be back soon'
while on the way out, a few of the other students gave their apologies to phoenix as they made their way out of the classroom and into the hallway with the vending machine, while larry was getting the water bottle, miles and phoenix sat on the bench, with miles patting his back in a comforting way
'hey are you okay?'
he nodded a bit as he sniffled, wiping away the last bit of his tear-stained cheeks
'....t-thanks for standing up for me'
miles blushed a tint of red as he sheepishly avoided his gaze
'..d-don't mention it, besides, your way too cute and innocent to ever do something like that'
phoenix stared back at him, his face turning red in shock
'..c-cute?!'
miles felt himself turning red as he quickly replied
'i-i meant like 'cause you're so nice and sometimes you have little habits that are you know, ...c-cute?'
'h-habits?'
'..u-um, ..y-you play with your fingers a lot, ..a-and your cute when you blush'
he admitted, phoenix seemed to turn red as he covered his cheeks with his hands, clearly embarrassed
'm-miles!!'
he cried out as he hid his face in his hands, larry laughed as he came back from the vending machine
'aww, edgy is right Nicky, you're so cute when you blush!'
'D-DON'T' POINT THAT OUT PLEASE!!'
he cried out in a squeaky voice that was muffed from his hands, both miles and larry giggled as they gave him the water, he thanked them as he took little sips, but both of their eyes widen at how many snacks larry had in his packback, they both shared a look but said nothing about it for now
'i bet it was larry'
miles said, phoenix stared at him for a moment but then sighed, nodding
'..i-i kinda thought that too, ..h-he bought a lot of snacks for himself at the vending machine...'
'..if he doesn't admit it, you owe me lunch'
'...a-and if he does, ..t-then you owe me your law book'
miles smiled, blushing a tint of red seeing phoenix giggle
