and she shot up awake. finding herself asleep on max's floor. the ginger girl is still lying in the bed peacefully. piper's dream disappearing into nothing, forgetting the 'dream'. it didn't feel like a dream. and soon max woke up to. the house is eerily quiet. maxine's mum must be working or still asleep.
"do you want a drink?" she asked softly, voice cracking lightly from her sleep and piper nodded. rubbing the sleep from her eyes as max reached for the pills in the cupboard. taking a few as she filled up two glass of water. handing the girl her drink, watching her sip it. but max couldn't help but think of last night. how the girl had acted. and that's when the sirens in the distance got louder. heading their way. oth girls looking outside to find them swerving up to eddie trailer. max's mum joining them. she must have been asleep.
"piper. looks like that munson boy's up to no good again." the women spoke addressing the cheerleader before looking at the police are pulling up the munson house. and there was no sign of edie. bujt his uncle was stood outside as the police walking in the trailer. max pulling her up to the house. curiosity getting the best of them. sneaking past the cips to look inside. and finding a lump of a body. chrissy's body. and piper's face dropped in horror. her dream. max gave a cry as the police ushered them back inside max's house.
"you knew." max shouted as they ran inside. away from the police's eyes, and the police's ears. the girls rushing to max's room. getting changed.
"what?" piper asked, finally pulling herself from her dream like state. as she threw on a baggy top. definitely one of steve's.
"last night, you said chrissy's name and ran for the door. you knew." max cried, looking at the girl in absolute horror. and piper was gone. she was rushing out of the room. out of the house.
"pip! piper! where are you going!" max cried as she followed the girl outside. watching her climb in her car and rev up the engine.
"get in!" she soutedand max was quick to join her.l throwing herself into the passenger seat.and before she could even buckle in, piper was off. ignoring the police shouting for her to stop. they wanted to keep the area on lockdown. they were looking for munson.
"dustin." piper spoke as the door opened, the look of confusion growing on his face as he looked between the two girls at his front door.
"what have you done?" he questioned, knowing something was up. and he lead them inside. towards his room and past his mother who smiled at them.
"chrissy cunningham? are you sure it was chrissy?" he asked asmax begun to fill him in on everything. piper dropping to the floor. sitting cross legged.
"yes, in her cheerleader outfit. the same thing she was in when i last saw her with eddie."max informed him, throwing looks to the girl.
"did you tell all this to the cops?"
"no. no." and he looked between them, something was really fucking wrong. not liking the look max was giving piper.
"eddie the freak with chrissy the cheerleader?"
"exactly. you know, his names not in the news yet or anything."
"he is suspect number one, he's gone."
"that's crazy! eddie didn't do this. no way."
"dustin, he wasn't there. he did a runner, he killed her."
"no!"
"we can't rule it out."
"yes we can. you don't know him like i do. when we got to high school, lucas made all his sports friends. and you two just fucked off. leaving mikeand me. i mean no one was nice to us. no one except eddie."
"okay. well, they said the same shit about ted bundy. yeah he's like a super nice guy. but he's murdering women on the weekend."
"so you're saying eddie is like ted bundy?"
"why haven't you told the cops this?"
"after we saw eddie and chrissy go in the trailer, something else happened."
the two girls sat on max's sofa, both squished up against the other. trying not to wake max's mum. they were watching grease when the tv started to jump, static screaming out.when the lights started to crackle. and that's when piper heard the soft chime of a clock. sounding identical to the one in her dream. looking up at max to find the girl looking at her funny. and then the lights flickered.
"chrissy." a distorted voice called, but it seemed only she had heard it. because max was till looking at her with worried eyes.
"chrissy." piper mumbled, and max's brow raised. and piper was up. ignoring max's shouting as she ran for the door. piper could have sworn hearing eddie cry before she crumbled on max's porch. fading to darkness. max rushing to get the girl, finding eddie throwing himself out of his trailer and scrambling towards his van. seeding away as fast as possible, van rocking as he did so.
"nothing that weird or anything, eddie always drives like a maniac. and the power goes off at my place all the time. it's a piece of shit but-"
"piper knew."
"and he was scared dustin, really scared.maybe he was scared because he had just killed someone or maybe-"
"something else killed her?"
oh.
"but that's impossible right?"
"i don't know. it should be."
"it was cold." piper finally spoke, the two looking down at the girl who sat on the floor.
oh no.
"only one person knows what actually happened."
"eddie." piper whispered. and he nodded.
