Day 7 of the exam
We were currently outside with my group eating our breakfast. This morning Iwai-senpai got up again to make breakfast for us because it was supposed to be our turn but he accepted my deal so his group replaced us for this task.
I didn't provoke him this morning since I already got want I wanted and he was already sure that we would fail and that he would win 500 000 privates points...
I can't wait to see his face when we will end up in the top three...
But for now...
Yato: Hey I would like a moment from all of you...
I said this to the people in my group show are currently eating and talking before the start of the day...
Akito: Yeah sure what's the problem?
Everyone at the table starts looking at me... Aside from Ryuuen who was on the other side and didn't seem too concerned about this.
Yato: Well I would like to talk about the marathon on the last day... Since we are only 10 for the relay instead of 15 we need to think carefully about each person's position in the group.
Hamaguchi: I see...Since The long-distance relay will be about 18 kilometers. That would mean each person must run for at least a minimum of 1.2 kilometers in a group of 15 people...

Akito: I see...If I'm right the school force us to at least run 1,2 kilometers, right?
Hamaguchi just nodded...
Hamaguchi: Indeed... that would mean we have 6 kilometers that we can give to our best runners.
Yato: Exactly... So I will tell you my plan in would you give me your thought on it.
Everyone just nodded and I noticed that Ryuuen started looking at me...
Yato: So basically my plan would be to make a run in first position Hamaguchi in the first position with 1,2 kilometers...not more. I think it's fair to say that it's not your force and that's why I would prefer if you focus more on the academic exam instead... how does it sound to everyone?

Komiya: I agree with Miyake... This exam is not bothering me at all, so if I can run more for the success of this group, it will not bother me!
Hamaguchi: Wow... thank you, everyone! I will do my best in my specialty then!
The chemistry was really good after a whole week... everyone understood their flaws and strength and accepted that they need to help each other succeed.
Yato: Okay perfect then I will continue...Beppu and Tanaka would run 1,6 kilometers after Hamaguchi. After it would be Ishikawa with 2 kilometers...Following up with Komiya with also 2 kilometers, Oda with 2 kilometers, Kito with 2,2 kilometers, Ryuuen with 2 kilometers, and Akito with 2,2 kilometers... How does it sound for you guys?
Everyone agreed with my plan...
Akito: 2,2 kilometers should not be a problem at all Yato! But...
Akito start looking at Ryuuen... he was not the only one in fact everyone was waiting for his answer... Mostly Komiya and Oda who was his classmates
Ryuuen: I don't have any problem with that...
A simple answer showing no intention to argue more...
Yato: Perfect then and for the last sprint... I plan to run 1,2 to be able to as fast as possible... Everyone is fine with that?
Komiya: Of course... after seeing you at the sports festival we will not argue with you!
Hamaguchi: After all, you managed to beat Shibata... it's not something that everyone could do Fukazawa! So we believe in you to get the first place!
Yato: Whoa... haha I'm glad to see that you have high hope as well guys...
When we were talking I noticed Sakagami-sensei approaching... which meant breakfast time was almost over...
Yato: Just before we agree...
I just start looking at Kito who hasn't said a word...
Yato: You okay running 2,2 kilometers?
Since the beginning of the week, he hasn't said a word... he was the only member of the A-Class of this group but I don't think it was the reason... I just think this guy doesn't speak at all.
He just start looking at me and nodded...
Yato: Okay fine... then we are all good for this exam!
I then got up and we were about to start the last exam day...

Kiyo Pov:
Day 7 of the exam:
Midnight. I woke up on hearing a slight creaking coming from the bed. A lone student is moving in the dark. Of course, even if there's absolutely zero visibility I'd still know who it is. It's Hashimoto who's supposed to be sound asleep above me. He soundlessly descended using the bunk bed's ladder and without even bringing along a flashlight, he left the room. After that, I slowly raised myself up
I think it's most likely going to be a toilet break but there are other possibilities too. Because I noticed the fact that throughout this whole week, there hasn't been a single incident of Hashimoto going for a toilet break in the middle of the night. I only gave him a slight headstart before getting up and following Hashimoto. On the off chance that he's standing right outside the door and notices me, I can just say that I'm also going for a toilet break. It's precisely because we share the same bed that Hashimoto will also think that he just woke me up too. I concealed my presence and headed out into the corridor.
There's only the emergency light and the moonlight streaming in from outside but walking without a flashlight is possible. I saw Hashimoto heading off towards the toilet. I followed him. And when I did, Hashimoto turned left rather than continue on down the corridor. It doesn't look like he's simply heading to the toilet. Hashimoto, after going down to the first floor, went outside while still in his indoor shoes. As I approached him, I concealed myself using the wall on my side. There's no one other than Hashimoto there. Maybe he just came here for a breath of fresh air prior to the exam? Or perhaps he's waiting for someone? I realized the answer to that question right away.
Sensing that he's about to turn towards me, I moved elsewhere. Because I saw another shadow I believe to be his objective here. That shadow walked along the path Hashimoto took and went outside.
In a situation like this where not even the sounds of insects are present, you could hear a person's voice a lot more clearly than you'd expect.
Hashimoto: Yo, Ryuuen.
Ryuuen: What the hell do you want with me?
Hashimoto: I just want to have a chat with you. You stand out way too much in the cafeteria. The only time we can meet would be in the middle of the night, right?
Ryuuen: On the very last day?
Hashimoto: Precisely because it's the very last day. Everyone else should be sound asleep right now.
Ryuuen: I see. I guess that's true.
There are no students who'd stay up this late at night when there's an exam the next day. That's why Hashimoto chose a time like this to have his secret meeting with Ryuuen. But Ryuuen and Hashimoto are a rather unexpected combination...or not I suppose. Back during our time on the uninhabited island, Ryuuen cultivated a relationship with Class A.
Hashimoto: Doing things in a roundabout way isn't how I roll. Give it to me straight. Did you really step down as class leader?
Ryuuen: Kuku. You don't seem like you're buying it?
Hashimoto: At the very least I can't bring myself to believe you got beaten down by Ishizaki and the others
Hashimoto tells him how that point stood out to him. Certainly, being beaten by Ishizaki does sound rather stupid.
Ryuuen:: Putting him aside, Albert's a troublesome one. If I go head-to-head with that guy, it'll be tough.
Hashimoto: I see. Well, Albert certainly is a threat I suppose. But the Ryuuen Kakeru that I know would never cower before an enemy like that. On the contrary, he'd always have a countermeasure planned, right?
Rather than assuaging his doubts, that only seemed to make him even more suspicious.
Ryuuen: I just got tired of leading a bunch of people who'd rebel against me. As long as I keep exploiting you Class A guys, I'll always be in the safe zone. I'm not obligated to save those guys.
Hashimoto: I see. So that's the truth then.
Ryuuen: Have I convinced you?
Hashimoto: I wonder. To be honest, it's still fifty-fifty. Besides, I'd personally like you to fight back from the situation you're in right now.
Ryuuen: So you can get more pocket money, is that it?
Hashimoto: That's exactly right. Just like you, I desire the 'promise of Class A
Ryuuen: I assume you're prepared to betray Sakayanagi if the promise of victory is what you want.
Ryuuen: If necessary, yes.
But as there were talking I've been taken by surprise when I suddenly feel someone behind me
Kiyo: !
I immediately turned around to see only Yato putting his finger on his mouth to tell me not to make a sound...
But I was more focused on something else... how did I just feel him when he was behind me and not before?!
Yato Pov:
I just arrived behind Kiyo while he started looking at me surprised...
Yato: Tsk... don't act surprised bastard...
But I remain silent and walked discreetly next to him and saw Ryuuen with Hashimoto...
Yato: I see... it's was Hashimoto that he goes meet...
Earlier when everyone was sleeping I heard Ryuuen below me get up from his bed and leave the room. I decided to follow him because it was odd for him to get up in the middle of the night but I wasn't expecting him to meet here with Hashimoto...
Hashimoto: Selling out Sakayanagi doesn't come cheap, Ryuuen. Because right now, Sakayanagi stands at the very top of our class. I'm on the winning team, you get it right?
Yato: Selling out Sakayanagi huh... I think following Ryuuen was the best thing... Even more when the person he met was Hashimoto...
Ryuuen: I'd like to see how long this sort of diplomacy will work.
Hashimoto: I'm rather good at carving out my own place. I'll have you know I'm more capable than I seem. But I'm glad I got to talk directly with you like this. Your eyes aren't dead yet.
From what I saw of Hashimoto what he said was right... from the very beginning of the year he was already one of the closest people of Sakayanagi. He seems quite social and his social skills seem really great for the times I talked with him t the start of the year.
After yawning, Hashimoto finally added this.
Hashimoto: When Fukazawa's class overtook yours, I wondered what the hell you were doing but you may be tougher than you look.
Ryuuen: Huh?
Hashimoto: If you look at each member calmly, everything becomes clear. And you start wanting to crush them early on.
Ryuuen: To think you'd evaluate them. Is there a man you're interested in or something?
Hashimoto: At the very least, Koenji's a threat. If he acts for the sake of the class, there's no telling what'll happen even to Class A. Besides, there are students like Hirata and Yukimura who excel academically. There's also Sudo, who's one of the physically fittest in our school year...
Ryuuen: Oh that's all?
Ryuuen said this with a provoking smile... I know where he wanted to go with this question...
Hashimoto: Of course... there is Fukazawa as well. Even you recognized him as a threat don't you?
Ryuuen: Maybe who knows?
Hashimoto: Well, I can say that Sakayanagi himself keeps an eye on him... after all, she took an interest in him from the start of the year...

Ryuuen mocks Hashimoto and tries to cut the conversation short
Hashimoto: Even if it's shitty, dragging this out is just troublesome.
Ryuuen: Yeah...
Ryuuen was about to leave... I can't go back into the room after him... I prefer him not knowing what I saw here...
But when Ryuuen was about to leave
???: Hey 1st years, having a secret meeting at a time like this?
Ryuuen: Huh?
The ones who stood before Ryuuen and Hashimoto who both headed back into the school building are Nagumo Miyabi and Horikita Manabu. Ryuuen stopped walking for an instant but then immediately lost interest and started walking again towards Nagumo. But Nagumo did not move from that spot.
Ryuuen: Get out of my way
In response to Ryuuen's glare, Nagumo laughed
Nagumo: Whoa haha Ryuuen the same attitude as the last time we meet right?! hahaha I'm going to have a little chat with Horikita-senpai now but you should tag along too.
Yato: Knowing Ryuuen he would never accept... I need to leave right now...
I was about to leave and Kiyo noticed it and probably understood why...
But before leaving I took a glance at Nagumo and Horikita...
Yato: Staying here is useless... I have already started doing my plan to prevent Tachibana from being expelled...
So I just decided to take my leave here and go back to my room before Ryuuen goes back...

The last day of the training camp.
One week has gone by and in that time, both boys and girls from across all school years making up roughly 36 small groups have gone about their own business. There are groups where members have successfully managed to deepen the relationships between one another and there are also groups that are on the brink of collapse. There are also groups where members indifferently did what needed doing without bothering to deepen relations between each other.
Our group managed to have a good relationship from the start of the own good of the group for this exam. That was a good thing because it was not something that I wanted to take care. From what I could hear, it seems that Kiyo's group had some difficulty all during the week because of Koenji and Ishikzaki mostly...
Anyway, it was soon the time of the exam and my group was still and the group preparing themself for the day...
Yato: yo everyone...
I caught the attention of everyone... I was standing in front of the door ready to leave the room.
Yato: You all did some great job during the week and today will be the same as we trained for so do not worry and everything will be fine for everyone. I seriously think we can get into the top three if our group manages well so I hope everyone is ready.
Hamaguchi: Thank you Fukazawa for leading this group! Kanzaki was right, we can really trust you. That's why I will do my best for the run today!
Akito: Focus on the academic exam and try to have a perfect score instead! We will manage to the marathon!
Ishikawa: Yeah Miyake is right!
They all started to talk to each other... I then took a glance at Ryuuen who was still sitting on his bed just waiting for the exam to start...
I then remember his conversation with Hashimoto yesterday... I know that Hashimoto tried to know more about me recently but on Ryuuen, too, huh? He seems suspicious about his loss against Ishizaki and the others... I was right Hashimoto is someone I would need to keep an eye on.
After a moment the school let us know that we will have breakfast as always and the exam will be after... So we all start heading to the usual place...

After breakfast, we headed over to the Zazen dojo. We are exempt from cleaning this morning since the exam will be starting right off the bat.
The exam was quite easy... The Scoring was based on two criteria. Your actions and manners after entering this dojo and any semblance of unrest during Zazen itself.
We learned it all during the week so we should have a good score.
I watched a few of the people;e of my group doing the exam before being called to the exam...
Sakagami: C-Class Fukazawa Yato and C-Class Koenji Rokusuke...
Yato: Same time as Koenji huh...
I just enter the Dojo and followed what we learned during the week and did the posture learned. I also noticed that Koenji was precisely performing the Zazen. It seems natural for him...
But I just continued the exam until I did the assignment and left the Dojo for the classroom designated for my group.

My group entered the first van and the first person that went out of the van was Hamaguchi as we had planned yesterday... Then we continued in the order we submitted to the school until we were now only Akito and me in the van...
Yato: So you're ready to run Akito?
I said this out loud while he seemed to look outside through the window...
Akito: Sure... running 2,2 is not a problem at all... but I'm seriously impressed by you Yato..
Yato: Hm?
He then starts looking at me with a more serious look.
Akito: When you decided to become the leader of Ryuuen's group I was surprised...
Yato: Why?
Akito: Well to be honest I was about to do the same thing as you...
I was kinda surprised to hear this... Akito wants to stay away from the class battle as well as Hasabe...but he wanted to take the role of the leader?
Yato: I see... but why are you impressed by me?
Akito: Well if I had been the leader of this group I couldn't ever do what you managed to do... You succeed in unit the group on the first day by your speech and you managed to get the best of your strength from everyone... I'm really shocked by your leadership skill...
Yato: My leadership huh...
This time it was me who start looking outside through the window...
Yato: We can say that I have experience in leading people...
I then felt that the van was slowing down...Akito was about to drop out of the van...
Akito: Anyway Yato... All I wanted to say is that I'm glad you had been this group's leader!
I just start looking at him a bit unsure how to answer him but I didn't have to because he got out of the van and the door closed behind him...
Yato: A good leader huh...
I then start looking outside the window...
The van started moving again and we arrived at our destination after a moment...
I got out of the van and start looking around to see familiar faces...
???: Oh it's you Fukazawa huh
I then start looking to my left to see Sudo over there talking with Shibata...
Shibata: Ohh Fukazawa and Sudo! This last run would be exciting!
Sudo: Uhh, I always wanted to face you in a race Fuakzawa! That's would be the occasion!
Yato: Ha..ha yeah if you say so...

I then start looking at Koenji...

I then walk over the main path in the mountain and start waiting for Akito...
I waited a moment until the first person that we started to see was Akito...

He didn't say anything but kept his smile while looking at Akito who was about to give me the running stick...
Yato: Then I guess you can compete against Sudo if you are that much in the mood...
He then start looking at me but before he could say anything...
Akito: Yato!
Akito arrived and give me the stick and without losing any time I just start running at my best and I was already far away from the others...
Since I left first and there was no one around me... We end up in the first position.
But to my surprise, Koenji ends up in second place while Sudo is in the third one...
Anyway there was only one test before the end of this special exam

Kiyo Pov:
Just like that, our long exam day ended. The group, no, the entire student body is exhausted. Our group will definitely rank far higher than what we expected it to rank at the beginning.
As long as the average score favors us, our group will definitely stand more than a good chance. The rest depends on how well Nagumo's group and the 3rd year group perform.
At the very least we should be above the average. Just like our first day here, all the boys assembled inside the gymnasium. Afterward, the girls also began assembling. The special exam results for both the boys and the girls will probably be announced now.
It's almost 5 o'clock in the evening. It'll probably be late night by the time we get back to school.

Ishizaki: Never once thought we'd be expelled. Because we were aiming for 1st place after all.

No matter what your feelings are, the fact that we've avoided expulsion is a significant one. However, something about the way that elderly man phrased it seemed off. If there are no expellees among the entire student body then there'd be no reason to say 'boys' in particular. In other words...
Man: As for the boys' group that placed first, I'll only be announcing the name of its 3rd year leader. For the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years of that group, your rewards will be handed out to you at a later date.
After explaining that, the elderly man slowly read the name
Man: 3rd year, Class C. Ninomiya Kuranosuke-kun's group placed first.
That announcement caused a portion of the 3rd years to celebrate. I didn't know which group it was for a moment, but I immediately realized that it's the group the older Horikita is in.
It appears the older Horikita has dominated the battle against Nagumo
Nagumo: You did it, Horikita. As expected of you.
Afterward, groups starting from 2nd place to last place were announced but for the senpai that's merely a bonus. Fujimaki, paying it no attention, praised the older Horikita.
Ishizaki: Oi, Yukimura. We're 2nd. We did it!
Keisei: Yeah, that's a relief. That's really a relief
We were in second place... but what also caught my attention was that Yato's group ended up in third place. I saw that the face of Iwai-senpai the leader of the third year of Yato's group seemed shocked and pale... while looking at Yato.
But Yato wasn't even looking at him and seemed to talk with Ryuuen next to him as if all the result wasn't interesting him at all.
But in the end, Nagumo lost against Horikita. Even if he placed 2nd, it still means Nagumo lost so he'd somewhat quiet down. That's what everyone thought. To be honest, I couldn't tell whose tactics would triumph in this fight. Why? Because I wasn't particularly interested in it.
However, Nagumo's been constantly smiling beside me without showing any sign of being agitated.

Nagumo: 1st place secured. Congratulations, Horikita-senpai. As expected of you.
Nagumo raised his voice and congratulated the older Horikita. The olderHorikita neither replied nor celebrated, remaining silent for the remainder of the announcement.
No, perhaps he's starting to feel something off about this
Fujimkai: You lost, Nagumo.
The 3rd year Fujimaki, who knows nothing, said that to Nagumo. Perhaps he feels like he's just humbled an upstart junior.
Nagumo: Let's see, the result announcement has just begun.
Fujimaki: Oh please, the fight's already over.
Nagumo: Sure, it's over for the 'boys'

Man: Now then...next up I will be announcing the results of the girls' groups. The group in 1st place is the group led by 3rd year Class C's Ayase Natsu-san.
This time around, a portion of the girls start celebrating. The small group that's a part of the 3rd year Ayase's large group is the one built around ClassC's Horikita and Kushida. They may have just won quite a lot of points for themselves. But after the joy comes the problem.
Man: Umm...this is truly unfortunate but there is one small group that has fallen below the average.
Both the boys and the girls froze up at that announcement. The students who were celebrating also went silent.
Everyone did their best in the special exam and worked hard to ensure they'd be above the average. However, the results can sometimes be cruel. This would mean someone's definitely going to be expelled.
The question is whether it's going to be a 1st year or a senior student, or perhaps both. There's no telling yet. The older Horikita looked at Nagumo as though he just realized something.
As though he's trying to figure out the reason behind that constant warped smile on his face. But it's already too late.
Man: Firstly, I'll announce the lowest group...it's the group led by 3rd year ClassB's Ikari Momoko-san
The boys all couldn't tell who was in that group at first. But they could hear screams coming from some of the girls and they start to realize who belongs to that group. The large bottom group has been decided. Now it all rests on which small group fell below the average.
In the worst case scenario, there could be expellees from all three years at once.
Man: Now, as for the group that fell below the average...
Silence fell upon the gymnasium almost as though we were in the midst of Zazen. Everyone, wanting to know the results as quickly as possible, focused on that man's mouth.
Man: Same as before, 3rd year...

He answered with a scornful laugh.

As I said in the previous chapter I got Covid past Friday and got really sick and couldn't write a lot. So I really hope the conclusion of this volume is great for you guys to read! I might have rushed a bit because I wanted to finish this volume this week. I really dislike rushing things but it was my only option because I'm going to take a break of 2 weeks of writing!
It's summer for me too, and I have planned things, so I decided to take a break for a few reasons. But one of them is mostly because I didn't have time to read Volumes 10 and 11. And I don't want to start writing Volume 9 without having read these two volumes. So far, when I wrote my story, I already knew exactly what I would write for the next Volume, but I still have doubts about Volumes 10 and 11. I have the ideas for the volumes but am not 100% sure about them and most important... If they are realizable. Like for Y2 I already know exactly what I plan for Volume 1 Y2 to Volume 4 Y2. That's why I prefer to take a break to plan the future of this story well and come back even more prepared! I hope you will understand guys!
Also, there was some stuff that I planned was some back story on Yato but after thinking about it I'm gonna wait for Volume 0, the story about Kiyo's past. Because I could write mine instead. A volume 0 for Yato but I need to read the real Volume 0 before.
But even if I'm not writing a new chapter I will still release Volume 8 SS at some point during those two weeks. The SS is easy to write and doesn't take me that much time.
And I will also release a "chapter" in which I will write all the important data and relationships with Yato soo far. There will also contain all the plot and sub-plot of my story. I don't know how many people read my story from the moment I started writing it but there are intrigues that I put since from the beginning so I just want to make just that everyone still remembers these. I first planned to write it after Volume 7 but I don't know kinda forget and just continued my story haha.
Anyway, I will take a break to come back to write the final arc of year 1 for my story! I really want to do my best and I seriously hope that you will enjoy it!
