𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: y/n makes a friend and keita does not. Featuring a lot of talking and some badass-ery

"Y/N!"

You turned just in time to see your dad before he scooped you up into a hug. You returned the hug, clinging onto him. After a long moment he pulled away and looked at you.

"Kiddo... are you okay?" He asked, voice laced with concern.

There were lots of things you wanted to say. But the first thing that managed to escape your lips was "I still have friends." Your dad smiled but stayed silent allowing you space to continue. "They're not mad even though I got in another fight. They're still my friends."

Your dad's smile only grew. "I'm glad to hear it. I'm so happy to hear it." He seemed to give you a quick once over, as if to convince himself that you were fine. "Apparently the tournament is on break. They have to fix the arena again." You winced lightly. "Wanna grab some snacks and relax?"

"Yes" you admitted. Then you realized something. "Actually... I have to do something... I have to apologize to Bakugou..."

Your dad gently patted your head. "Go for it. Do you want backup?"

You thought for a moment then, "No I want to do this on my own... Sorry." You hesitated to glance at your dad but he was just smiling.

"Nothing to be sorry for, kiddo. I'm so proud of you." He pulled you into a quick hug then flashed a smile. "I'll grab us some snacks."

"Thanks dad." You said, relieved. "Love you."

"Love you too kiddo."

﹤┈┈┈﹥

You loomed outside the nurse's office like a self conscious ghost. You knew what lay on the other side of the door.

Bakugou.

Considering that this was the guy who yelled at people for doing something as small as getting in his way... He would probably want to mash you into a fine paste when he saw you.

And you just might let him...

You were just about to open the door when you pulled your hand back, suddenly too nervous. Then the decision was made for you, when the door opened from the other side.

"Huh?" Bakugou said when he noticed you standing there.

"Huh?" You said as you made peace with your impending doom.

"Oh. It's you." He mumbled out, his voice oddly quiet. You noted the bandages that were sticking out past the collar of his shirt.

You nodded solemnly and then (before you were exploded) you managed a quick "I'm so sorry!" Then braced yourself, closing your eyes and trying to make yourself as small as possible.

You could feel his glare.

"...The fuck are you apologizing for?"

You opened your eyes and stared at him. Then took a deep breath, "I'm sorry I hurt you. I'm sorry."

"Stop apologizing!" He snapped but even that didn't have the bite it usually did.

"I-" You started then stopped.

"Why do you think that you have to apologize for our match?" He stared as he asked, clearly analyzing your face.

You gave him a confused look. "Because I hurt you?" You said, stating the obvious.

"It's a fucking fighting tournament, moron. And I literally asked for it."

"I know but-"

"But nothing! It's a goddamn tournament!" He seemed to be getting annoyed. "I blasted Round Face into unconsciousness. Icy Hot turned Tape Arms into an icicle. Why the hell would you knocking me out be different?"

"I've hurt someone before." You mumbled.

Bakugou narrowed his eyes. "What?"

You grimaced. "There was this girl... She was... uh... she was not a great person. She was going to hit me and I panicked and pushed her and... I hadn't realized that my training had worked so well. She went to the hospital." You paused, staring at the ground. "I thought I had gotten better since then but I haven't changed at all... I'm still just..." you hesitated. "Just a useless monster..."

WHACK!

You jumped realizing he'd smacked a hand into your head, not hard enough to do anything but confuse you.

"Knock that shit off."

"Huh?"

"'Haven't changed' my ass. You literally just apologized to me. You look like you're about to start crying... Again." He added.

"I apologized to her too. That didn't fix it then." You countered unsure why you couldn't wrap your head around him not being mad.

"Yeah well she sounds like a bitch anyways." Bakugou stated casually. "Seems like she fucking deserved it to me."

You stared. Mouth opening and closing dumbly as you tried to wrap your head around this. Just as you were about to get a grip on yourself, he drops another bombshell.

"Did you mean what you said?" His calm calculated tone and neutral expression caught you off-guard. "What you said in the arena. Did you mean it?"

"Of course I did." You confirmed. "I'm not great at explaining but that's what I wanted to tell you."

He raised a brow giving you an unreadable glare. "You don't make any goddamn sense." He finally managed to say.

You raised a brow. "Um... Sorry?"

"Stop apologizing." He snapped then sighed and rolled his eyes. "You're impossible. I don't get you. You're strong as hell but you act like..." He trailed off seemingly trying to find a description before just gesturing vaguely at you. "That."

"And that's supposed to mean?" You asked, confusion clear on your face.

He groaned. "Fucking hell..." A long pause. "Why are you even here?"

You grimaced. "Well, I wanted to apologize to you and-"

"No." He interrupted. "Why are you at UA? You sure as hell aren't trying to get stronger."

"I want to help people." You stated. Out of everything you'd said during this conversation, it was the easiest to say. "I want to have fun too. Sure, I mean... I like fighting, I guess. Trying my best, learning, getting stronger, and all that. But, I always wanted to help people."

He stared for a moment. "Huh." He stepped past you and seemed to have put something together but you had no idea what. "We're going to spar." He stated bluntly over his shoulder as he walked down the hall. It wasn't a question.

"Huh?"

"What you said you wanted to help? And you're not planning on getting any stronger right?" He grinned at you, the same feral grin you expected from him at this point. "Then I'll show you why you should. Besides it's been ages since I could spar with someone who can survive an explosion at point blank. No need to hold back."

You couldn't help but smirk back. "Sure thing." A moment passed as you watched him walk off, then- "Wait a minute! Was that a pep talk? Did you just give me a pep talk?!" Bakugou stayed quiet. So you pushed further. "Does that mean we're friends?" You ran after him.

"Abso-fucking-lutely not!" Bakugou snapped but you only grinned wider.

"Sure thing, best buddy!"

"I'll still kill you."

"Okie dokie. Train hard, pal!"

"YOU FUCKI-

Keita sighed as he walked, snacks in hand. Luckily all his wandering around the halls earlier seemed to have helped since he actually felt like he knew where he was going.

He was glad that Y/N was so self-sufficient, that she was confident enough to deal with this sort of thing on her own but, a part of him wished that she still needed his help... He still wanted to protect her. But his kid's happiness was much more important than his own, so he'd let her do things on her own and catch her if she ever fell.

The woes of a parent...

"Saitama?"

He'd reached the entrance of the stadium halls when a voice interrupted. Half of him wanted to rush ahead pretending he hadn't heard them so he could see his kiddo again, but his politeness won out.

"Hello?" He turned. Now Keita was far from short but even he actually had to crane his neck to see the one who addressed him. Despite his lack of interest in all things hero related, he recognized the man. The number two hero glared at him.

"You're Keita Saitama correct?" The man's harsh tone made it sound like an accusation but Keita was unfazed.

"Yes. Do you need something?" His voice was precise but not rude (though if the Hero Public Safety Commission thought they could intimidate him so easily that may not last). He walked as he spoke, making the other walk while he spoke.

He noted the flames hissing around Endeavor, radiating heat like a furnace. An utterly pointless but rather impressive use of fine quirk control. A show of power.

"That Y/N girl is your daughter then?" The man's expression was hard and unreadable and Keita couldn't help but be reminded of the stoic expression of the younger Todoroki.

Keita paused at that. "Yes. She is."

Endeavor was staring at him with an intense glare like he was trying to figure him out. "She's doing very well in the sport's festival." Keita visibly perked up at that.

"Yes! Honestly I'm super proud of her! She's worked really hard to get here and I'm glad she's finally using her strength." He spoke casually, unable to keep his smile at bay.

He had always been hesitant to talk much about Y/N. Not to say that he didn't want to, but he never really felt as though he could. He loved his child more than anything in the world but, as the world kept reminding them, not everyone felt that way.

He rarely told anyone about her outside of close friends. Not because he was ashamed of her in any way (he couldn't be prouder actually) but because he knew what response he'd get.

He had mentioned her offhandedly at his old job once and talked about her to a coworker who also had kids. Then she asked about his daughter's quirk... Keita was honest. Luckily, he also had the self control not to punch said coworker when she sympathetically told him how 'hard' and 'disappointing' that must be. But he did leave his lunch break ten minutes earlier and never spoke to that coworker again.

But that had been before his kiddo had been accepted to UA and had done so well in the sports festival so, he allowed himself to gush.

"She's worked incredibly hard to get as strong as she is and now she's working just as hard on controlling her strength. It's incredible. I'll admit I was a little nervous when she told me she wanted to be a hero but I'm glad that she's found something she wants to work towards. Then again, I probably worry too much..."

He realized he was moments away from rambling on until the end of time. "Sorry, sorry... I have a tendency to talk a lot... Especially about my kiddo... Your son is in her class, right?" A nod. "You must be very proud!" Keita's voice was cheerful, eager to give the other man the chance to talk about his own kid.

"He's holding back."

"Oh?" Keita was taken aback by his harsh tone.

"But your daughter... She's not. She's putting in effort." Something about his tone was so strange.

Keita nodded. Y/N was but she putting effort into holding back.

"You've trained her well." It was a statement but it was an implied question as well. He was asking how he'd trained Y/N.

"Ah no, I did nothing of the sort. That's all Y/N I-" Keita cut himself off as he finally pieced together what Endeavor's tone and wording reminded him of. Keita stopped dead in his tracks.

He felt like he was talking shop, like he was talking with another engineer about a project that wasn't going well. Endeavor was asking him about his kid the same way he'd ask someone about a piece of machinery, a project, a tool, and there were no words to describe how thoroughly uncomfortable that realization made him.

"I assume however, that it was your idea to keep her quirk a secret?"

Keita blinked slowly. "Huh?"

"The announcer said she's quirkless. It's understandable to keep her power hidden, after all any worthwhile villains research heroes in advance. That being said, I would like to know what her power is exactly."

"Why?" Keita's voice had dropped any semblance of cheerfulness and his casual tone. He pivoted smoothly from his usual way of speaking to the way he spoke at work, calm and precise.

"I have an offer for you. Your daughter is very strong, as is my son. I'm certain that their quirks would suit each other very well." Keita's eye twitched.

"I'm not sure I know what you mean."

"A quirk marriage. You and your company are very well known and respected and I have connections in the hero world. it would be a mutually beneficial agreement."

Keita officially had enough. He'd always tried to give people the benefit of the doubt. Aki had insisted on it and Keita was determined to keep true to that but this... Nope. He was done. It made him actually nauseous, the way he spoke as if trying to negotiate, like his dear daughter's future was a business transaction.

"Absolutely not." Keita's voice was cold, firm. "I will have you know that there was no plan to 'cover up' my daughter's quirk. She doesn't have one and neither do I."

Endeavor seemed genuinely surprised by his sudden break in courtesy. But he quickly steeled his expression, giving Keita a cold glare instead. "What?"

Keita grinned and it wasn't the grin of a proud dad, not anymore, it was the grin of a confident businessman. It was the same grin he'd worn every single day when he'd been able to corner the people who'd hurt his daughter in court. It was the same grin he'd worn when he'd been able to buy his parents' company out from under them. It was not a friendly grin.

"That offer of yours makes me sick to my stomach. I can't think of anything I'd want less. Moreover, if you do anything to my child, I will be forced to take action."

Endeavor narrowed his eyes. "Is that a threat?"

"No, of course not. It's a promise." And it was a promise Keita had no concerns in fulfilling.

"Bold. Especially considering the fact that you just told me you were quirkless." Endeavor practically snarled.

Keita actually chuckled at that. "How naive of you... Not that I'm surprised. That's one of the things I hate most about heroes. It's always quirks, isn't it?"

Keita turned, facing the hero down without a hint of fear in his face. He usually didn't cut a very intimidating figure, with his laid back demeanor and usual fashion sense (or lack thereof) but right now, in one of his finest suits with cold glare on his face, he was nearly unrecognizable.

"I'm quirkless, sure. But I would recommend you take a look at a history book. People have only had quirks for nearly 200 years but people have been able to have power over others in so many ways since the dawn of humanity. You assume that quirks are the only way to be powerful? That's naive."

﹤┈┈┈﹥

Had it been anyone else, Endeavor would have scoffed. But it wasn't. He'd meant what he'd said. Both Keita Saitama and Nova Industrial had quite the reputation. The company that had been able to circumvent the Hero Commission in court and the genius business man who'd made it happen.

The more concerning thing had been the quick change. The way the man in front of him had jumped from happy to threatening was unnerving.

"Very well. But be warned. My Shoto is going to surpass her. I can guarantee it. He'll be the number one hero." He moved, ready to leave when a voice cut through the air like a knife.

"And then what?"

He turned quickly, already preparing for a fight, his instincts honed from years of hero work screamed. The same instincts that had kept him alive though so many tough fights with villains were frozen.

There, standing boredly in the hallway just over a meter away from him, her tracksuit still dirty from her last fight, was none other than Y/N Saitama.

"What?" Was all he managed to say.

How the hell had she managed that?

How had she snuck up on him like that?

The instincts you got as a hero didn't fade when you weren't in a fight. He couldn't help but be aware of his surroundings. But somehow she'd managed to sneak up on him.

And that presence.

He'd fought terrifying villains, capable of destroying entire cities who were willing if not eager to kill him.

He'd seen All Might's powers up close.

But this... This was something else entirely.

She was standing calm and relaxed, hell, her hands were in her pockets but for some reason he felt like he couldn't breathe.

The girl smiled and it had the same spark as her father's grin had. "I said, and then what?" She cocked her head to the side. "I mean, let's say Shoto does become the number one hero. Then what?"

She stepped closer, still nothing in her posture was anything close to threatening and yet...

He felt like he was staring down a tsunami. A natural disaster, something he had no chance of stopping that wouldn't even consider him.

"'Cause it seems to me like you don't have any idea." She smiled, her face the picture of a happy kid. "So, let's say you get everything you wanted... Then what? Will it make you feel better? Will you feel accomplished? Will it all have been worth it?" There was a distinctive bite to her tone, an accusation. "Or will you feel nothing? And realize that you didn't want what you think you wanted? Will it be worth it then?"

He couldn't breathe.

"Just something to think about." She shrugged. The tension vanished just like that. Like someone flicking a switch. He was still reeling.

"Anyways... Hi dad!" The girl walked right past him to her father. "Did you get snacks? We probably don't have much time before my match but I still want snacks!"

What the hell...

What was this girl...

What was that power?
