Everyone had received a message from Maverick that morning, telling them to meet him at the beach near the Hard Deck and a list of things to bring. Of course, all the aviators were confused but they went anyway.
"I wonder what training we'll be doing on the beach," Rooster pondered after he had picked Flynn up.
"I have no idea, I got the same message"
The two of them soon arrived and saw a group of the others at the beach. It wasn't long until she spotted Hangman, who was yet to take his eyes off of her.
"Rooster, Flynn, nice of you to join us," Maverick said making Flynn go red, "Today we are working on team bonding, so what better way to bond than having a game of beach football"
There were a load of cheers before Maverick split everyone into two teams, however there was an uneven amount of aviators.
"Hangman's team have a player short...Flynn?"
Flynn's eyes widened.
"Oh erm no. I don't do sports," Flynn declined immediately.
"Tough luck kiddo," Rooster said before grabbing her and throwing her over his shoulder, making everyone except Hangman laugh.
"Rooster put me down!" she protested, trying to get out of his grip which was pretty much impossible.
"Come on guys, we've got a game to win," Rooster smirked, carrying Flynn to where they were about to play.
"Bradley Bradshaw put me down immediately!"
Rooster eventually put her down, a massive grin on his face.
"Oh you're so going down Bradshaw"
Maverick started the game, everyone immediately working together to help their teams, just as Pete wanted. Although they were on the same team, Flynn did all she could to ignore Hangman. Opportunity to pass the ball? Ignored. Hangman offering his hand when she got knocked over? Ignored.
The sun was beating down on them as they carried on playing, making everyone except Bob and Flynn take off their shirts. Flynn couldn't help but stare at Rooster as he revealed what he had been hiding under his shirt. That man was ripped, they all were.
Eventually they had a water break, that had been provided by Penny of course. Hangman saw an opportunity to talk to Flynn which he took immediately.
"Flynn?"
Flynn was sat on the sand, water bottle in hand and when she saw Hangman try and talk to her she got up straight away.
"Flynn wait!"
She didn't listen, instead she walked up the beach and went to sit on bench with Penny who was reading a book and sipping on some orange juice.
"Everything okay darling?" Penny asked her niece as she sat down.
"Yeah, just tired," Flynn partially lied.
"I heard about what happened yesterday," the older woman acknowledged, "You know you can talk to me about anything right?"
"There's nothing to talk about"
"You and Hangman seemed..."
"There is no me and Hangman, and there never was. Yes, we flirted a little but that was it. Now I know he only showed interest in me to get one up on Rooster"
"Oh honey, men ay? They're far too complicated"
"That I can agree with," Flynn chuckled.
"How about you get yourself a bottle of beer from the bar?"
"Really?"
"Of course! You can get me one whilst you're there too," she winked.
"Sure thing"
Flynn got up from her seat and headed towards the Hard Deck, not aware of the blonde aviator following her in there. And also not aware of the angered look on the face of her sisters ex boyfriend's face.
Flynn grabbed two beers and was startled when turned back around and saw Hangman standing in front of her.
"What the hell is wrong with you? You've almost just given me a heart attack!"
"Sorry, I just needed to speak with you"
"Well I don't need to speak with you, so if you don't mind, I'll be going"
But before she could walk out, he grabbed her arm.
"Hangman get the fuc..."
"Jake. My name is Jake"
"I could not care less. Now get off of me"
Jake listened to her and released the grip he had on her arm.
"Will you please listen to me and just hear me out?"
"Give me one good reason why I should"
"Well, you got me there," Jake awkwardly laughed, rubbing the back of his neck.
His biceps flexed as he rubbed the back of his neck and that is when Flynn had taken notice of the fact that he wasn't wearing a shirt. Her eyes widened at how toned he was and if Jake hadn't wanted to have a serious conversation with her he'd have made a flirtatious comment about her checking him out.
"Erm, I need to get this to Penny before it goes warm," she eventually said before brushing past him.
"Well, at least know that I was genuinely interested in you and it wasn't to get at Rooster," Jake blurted out which stopped Flynn in her tracks.
She was just about to turn around and say something to him but decided against it in the last second and carried on walking out until she got back to Penny.
"Did you go back to the city to get these beers?" Penny asked sarcastically since she took so long.
"Huh? What? Erm no," Flynn stumbled on her words, clearly distracted.
"Everything okay?"
Just as she asked, she saw Jake walking back down the beach from the Hard Deck.
"Ah, that explains it," she sniggered.
"Stop, don't even think like that!"
"What?!"
"I know what you're thinking and that is not what happened in there"
"Oh so something did happen in there?"
"Penny!"
"Sorry! But even I've got to admit that he is one fine looking man," Penny ogled.
"You are impossible, oh my god"
"No seriously, what happened? Because if he said something to hurt you I won't hesitate to break his pretty face"
"No, he didn't do that," Flynn laughed at her auntie's protectiveness, "He kinda did the complete opposite"
"I'm not following"
"I didn't want to listen to what he had to say but before I left he said that he was genuinely interested in me and it wasn't to get at Rooster"
"And what did you say?"
"I didn't say anything. I just left. I didn't know what to say"
"Do you think he was being genuine?"
"I don't know Penny, possibly. But I don't trust him as far as I could throw him. Which isn't far, have you seen the size of his muscles? Jesus Christ"
"What are you two lady's chatting about?"
Penny and Flynn looked up to see Rooster hovering above the bench, sweat glistening on his body.
"Girl talk mister, it's nothing to do with you," Flynn answered, lightly poking his chest.
"But I love girly talk," Rooster pouted before taking a seat next to Flynn.
"Want a sip?" Flynn offered her bottle of beer.
"It'd be rude to decline," he replied before taking a sip and giving it back to her, "Thank you"
"No problem"
"Having fun out there Rooster?" Penny asked.
"Well it's definitely easier than flying an F-18," he chuckled.
"Rooster! You're needed!" Phoenix shouted, holding a football in her hands.
"Well, ladies, duty calls. Are you coming for another game?"
"Imma sit this one out," Flynn answered, holding up her beer.
"Fair enough. See you ladies later"
"Have fun," Penny smiled.
Rooster nodded before jogging back down to the others.
