Y/n's POV
The Next Day.
I rubbed my eyes, sitting up.
"Mmm.." I groaned, looking around.
I saw everyone gathered by a small fire.
"Oh, good morning, Y/n." Katara smiled.
She sat in front of a big pot, holding a ladel.
"Are you hungry?" She asked.
My stomach growled as I stood up.
"Maybe a little." I smiled sheepishly.
"Well, breakfast is ready." She said, offering me a bowl.
I slowly took the bowl from her.
"Thank you." I said.
"Katara's one of the best cooks I know!" Aang smiled.
"Hey, has anyone seen Toph?" Sokka asked.
"I haven't seen her since she left yesterday." Aang said.
"Maybe she's exploring the temple?" Haru suggested. "There's some great spots to practice earthbending."
"Maybe we should look for her." I said, taking a bite of the food Katara made.
"Nah, let her have fun with her rocks." Sokka said, sitting down.
"We can go check for her." The Duke said.
"Yeah, I want to ride down the tunnels some more." Teo said excitedly.
With that, the three boys took off down the hall.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed through the area.
A hole had formed nearby on the side of the wall.
Toph came falling out of it.
"Toph!" I shouted, getting up and running towards her.
"What happened?" Katara asked her, running behind me.
"My feet got burned." She said, laying on the ground with her feet in the air.
"How?" I asked her, crouching down by one of her feet.
"Well, I kind of went to see Zuko last night." She admitted.
I bended water from the fountain nearby and began healing her foot.
"You're a healer, too?" Katara asked, surprised.
I nodded my head.
"You'd be surprised by what scrolls can teach you." I shrugged.
She crouched down by me and began healing Tophs other foot.
"It's gonna take a while for your feet to get better." Katara said.
"..Why did you go to see Zuko?" I asked her.
"I thought he could be useful to us." She replied.
I stayed quiet, looking down.
Something shiny caught the corner of my eye.
I looked up and saw a man.
"Who's that?" I asked.
"Who's who?" Katara asked, looking in the same direction as me. Her eyes widened. "Run!" She shouted.
A loud boom rang out.
"What's going on?!" I asked, panicked.
"It's the assassin!" Sokka shouted.
The assassin Zuko sent? Got it.
I took off running towards the assassin.
I began bending water around me to lift myself up.
That's when I saw him.
Zuko.
He still has the nerve to come back?! I thought, gritting my teeth.
I created an earth pillar under me, lifting myself toward the assassin at a faster pace.
"I don't want you hunting the Avatar anymore!" I heard Zuko shout at the man.
I began bending large water droplets around me, freezing it to make ice daggers and shooting them towards the man.
He blew them up, the impact and debris causing me to fly backwards off the pillar.
Shit..!
A large chunk of debris smashed into my leg.
"Y/n!" I heard Zuko shout as I fell.
"Ah..AAH!" I screamed as I fell, unable to do anything.
Suddenly, I felt someones arms around me.
"I got you." Zuko said, looking down at me.
He had swung on a vine to catch me.
Blinking back tears, I wrapped my arms around his neck so I wouldn't fall.
I then saw something fly past us.
A boomerang.
Sokka? I thought, watching the boomerang fly. It hit the assassin in his forehead, making him fall over.
I felt my feet hit the ground.
As I went to look at Zuko, a loud bang rang out.
I flinched, covering my ears.
He wrapped his arms around me again.
The noise gone, I uncovered my ears.
"...You can let me go now." I said.
"..Right." He mumbled, taking a step back.
I went to take a step, but wobbled, nearly falling over.
Zuko put his arm around me to help me stand.
"I don't need any help." I snapped at him.
"I don't care." He replied. "Come on." He began leading me over to the group.
"I can't believe I'm saying this, but thanks, Zuko." Aang said as we got closer.
I removed his arm from around me and limped over to where Toph was sitting.
"Hey, what about me? I did the boomerang thing." Sokka said.
"I can't believe you stopped him with your boomerang, Sokka." I said as I took off my shoe. "That was really cool."
I gently felt around my leg and ankle.
Nothing too serious. I thought, sighing with relief. Probably just a sprain.
I bended water from the fountain around the area to heal it.
"I know I didn't explain myself very well yesterday, but I've been through a lot in the past few years- it's been hard." Zuko began. "But all I want now is to play my part in ending this war. And I know my destiny is to help you restore balance to the world."
I looked at him, somewhat shocked.
He then looked at Toph.
"I'm sorry for burning you. It was an accident." He said, bowing. "Fire can be dangerous and wild. As a firebender, I need to be more careful and control my bending so I don't hurt the people around me." He then looked at me.
"When I first tried to learn firebending, I burned Katara. After that, I never wanted to firebend again." Aang said. "But now I know you understand how easy it is to hurt the people you love." Aang then looked at me. I shrugged, and he then looked back at Zuko. "Zuko, I think I do want you as my teacher."
He then bowed to Zuko.
He's forgiving him so easily... you can tell he was raised by the Monks. I smiled softly.
"Thank you." Zuko said, bowing back. "I'm so happy you've accepted me into your group."
"Not so fast." Aang said. "I still have to ask my friends if its okay with them."
He looked at Toph.
"Toph, you're the one that Zuko burned. What do you think?"
"I say go for it." Toph shrugged. "I'll get my payback in time." She smirked, punching her palm.
"Sokka?" Aang asked.
He looked down, then shrugged.
"All I want is to defeat the Fire Lord. If you think this is the way to do it, then I'm all for it." He replied.
Aang smiled, then looked at Katara.
"Katara?" He questioned.
"I'll go along with whatever you think is right." She said, scowling.
Aang nodded, then looked at me.
"Y/n?" He asked.
