"Have you seen or heard from Eddie Munson recently, its really important," Adira asked the random boy through the phone. She was sitting down on the tabletop, swirling the cord of the phone around her finger.
"Nah babe, I haven't, but if you come over to my house, maybe you can help me jog my memory," The random teen boy replied through the phone. Adira could practically feel the smirk on his face as she rolled her eyes and let out a scoff
"Oh please, the only recollection that would occur is me remembering the old, moldy tic tac that's on the bottom of my brothers car floor and then making a comparison between it and that thing the doctors would even hesitate to call a dick," Adira growled into the phone before hanging up and turning to the rest of the group who looked just as fed up as she did, "obviously this shit isn't working, how long are we going to keep this up for?"
"As long as it takes," Dustin replied as he looked for a number that they hadn't called yet, "we have only been calling people for like an hour... we need to find Eddie, you want to find him right?" Dustin wasn't blind, he saw the way that Eddie was around the girl, the red flushes that would overtake his cheeks whenever she spoke to him.
And Dustin also saw the way that Adira was around Eddie, even though she had only really got to know him for a day, she seemed more calm than usual. Ever since the incident the summer before, the girl was different. She was constantly on edge, she was snappy and defensive... she would shut all of them out randomly.
"Yes of course I want to find him," Adira explained to the boy as she hopped off the counter and walked over to the whiteboard that they were using to keep track of who they had called, she crossed out the phone number she had just rung. Even the pure thought alone of Eddie being out there, hiding, freezing and hungry was enough the bring goosebumps to her arms and a throbbing pain to her upper chest
"Well then get back on the phone and call some more people," Dustin demanded her
"Surely there is another way that we can find him right?" Adira asked the boy with a sigh as she put the phone back down on the receiver and then lifted herself back up onto the counter where she sat comfortably as she swung her legs back and forwards
"I really don't think that he is at the arcade," Robin spoke into her phone as she carried the whole thing around with her as she paced the room, "yep, I'm pretty sure."
"Reefer Rick? No. Does this Reefer Rick have a last name? I mean, its kind of..." Max was talking into her phone but Adira switched her attention over to her brother who was clearly attempting to flirt with a pretty customer who was oblivious to his antics.
The girl just wanted to get a good movie for her and her boyfriend to watch together, and here she was, face to face with a horny, yet love-desperate, Steve Harrington who tried to talk his way into the heart of almost any girl that walked into the store.
Adira struggled to hold back her laughter as she watched the scene unfold before her, it was clear that the girl wasn't interested in him, and it was even more clear that he was completely unaware, of that small, minor detail
"All right, Doctor Zhivago. Its a double VHS. It's long. But that is because it is filled with action and romance, and a little bit of suspense," Steve said as he handed the VHS over to the curly haired girl
"So my boyfriend wont like, totally puke when I bring it home?" The girl asked and that was when a loud snort of laughter fell from Adira's mouth, a very loud, and very unattractive snort.
Her eyes widened as everyone all looked over at her. She quickly covered her mouth as she tried to grab something to cover her red face, but in the process she lost her balance on the counter and fell off, landing on the ground with a solid thud.
Robin, Max and Dustin all stared at the girl in amusement as she sat on the floor, surrounded by a few tapes that had fallen down along with her
"Fuck, my ass," Adira groaned, the teens behind the counter all looked at the girl in amusement, she had a tendency of being clumsy and accidentally tripping over or falling, though they still clearly hadn't gotten used to it as they chuckled at her
Steve however, was not joining in on the laughter, "oh your, your boyfriend... uh no. No. He's gonna... he is gonna love it, yeah," Steve muttered to her and she finally took the VHS from his hand.
"Is uh, is she alright?" The girl asked steve as she pointed over to the counter
"Uh, Mentally? no, not at all," Steve replied and they turned to look over at the counter, the spot where Adira had previously been sitting was now empty, but they could see her small hand sticking up over the counter, flipping him off.
Steve went to show the girl out of the store and Adira stood up with a groan before sticking a smirk back on her face and practically skipping happily over to her brother who was saying goodbye to the girl, "Yeah, see ya later... alligator."
"Oh man Stevie, that shit was embarrassing huh?" Adira asked with a smirk as she pat her brother on the shoulder sarcastically
"Yeah, almost as embarrassing as you falling off the counter, who even does that might I add?" Steve asked as she shoved her hand away from him and then the two of them walked back over to the others
"It was on your side of the counter, its not my fault you leave shit everywhere," Adira replied and climbed back over the counter like Dustin had done, only she didn't knock anything off. Adira went over and stood next to Robin who was also watching the whole encounter with a look of amusement on her face, "So Rob, how many times has that happened?" Adira asked, referring to Steve and the girl
"Oh only about 10 times," Robin said with a cheeky grin as she looked over at Adira
"What... a day?" Adira adds with a small smirk, pulling herself back up onto the counter once more, reclaiming her spot
"A week," Robin replies in amusement
"Hey no, I'm sick of you two always ganging up on me. You are my sister, and you're meant to be my best friend, that's not fair," Steve complained as he looked between the two girls that he cared a great deal for.
"Well my friend, life isn't fair I hate to tell you," Adira said with a yawn before Max suddenly puts the phone back down on the receiver and then turns to look at them with a hopeful look.
"I think that I might have found a lead," Max suddenly speaks up. Dustin quickly turns his chair around to face her and the older teens all just tilt their heads over to look at Max, each of them giving her their undivided attention
"Seriously?" Dustin asks in excitement, the group of them had been calling people for an hour and none of them had any luck, Dustin himself was just about to give up but finally, Max had got something that might be helpful for them
"Apparently, Eddie gets his drugs from some guy named Reefer Rick," Maxine tells them as she tries to make sure that she didn't leave anything out or mess up any information, "and sometimes Eddie crashes there."
"That sounds promising," Robin says as she puts her phone down with a hopeful look on her face
"I agree," Adira said as she got down from off the counter. Robin watched the girl's muscles that she had got from cheer and basketball tense as she used them to lift herself down off the table, and unluckily enough for her, Steve Harrington seemed to notice.
Robin notices the look that Steve was giving her and she choked out a few random words to try and get him to ignore what he had just seen, "so i uh, where uh, where does this Reefer Rick guy live?"
Robin knew that she had to get over her crush on Adira Harrington, a crush that she had held since the fourth grade. Robin had held hope that maybe Adira might have noticed her and liked her back the way that she had liked her, but her hope was slowly torn away bit by bit every time Robin saw the girl with the boys that she had been with.
She had mentally cursed herself for years, obviously Adira Harrington wouldn't like her back, it was a stupid crush... but it was a crush she couldn't manage to shake.
Come on Robin, pull yourself together, think about Vickie, maybe she might like you back... but the truth was, Robin was only using Vickie as a distraction and a way to make sure that Steve didn't find out that she liked his sister.
But while Steve wasn't exactly the 'sharpest tool in the shed,' he wasn't blind. He had realised that Robin was crushing on Adira ages ago, and while he wouldn't admit it, it made him jealous... jealous that Robin like Adira and not him.
"See, that's the thing. No one knows." Maxine explains to them, "he is more of a... a legend than someone that people actually know."
"Well what about a last name?" Dustin asked her, his hope slowly starting to fade away as fast as it had come
"I bet the cops know the last name," Steve spoke up from the other side of the counter where he was stacking tapes into some baskets to re-order
"What?" All of them ask the boy in shock, why the hell would they go and talk to the cops. the whole reason that they were doing this right now was so that they could intervene before the cops did
