10:32 P.M.
lani laid underneath the covers of their bed, in a peaceful state of slumber. their black hair sticking to their forehead and cheeks from drool, and mouth slightly ajar as they slept comfortably in the may heat.
the dorm stayed relatively quiet until a loud curse was heard from the kitchen area. lani jolted awake from their slumber and looked around the room confused.
trying to wake themself up, lani rubbed their eyes with their knuckle. it didn't really work, but it was good enough. she swung their legs over the side of the bed and groggily walked towards the door to investigate the culprit.
"rin, why're you yellin?" lani asked, dragging out the 'n'.
rin turned around from his spot at the stove, his brows deeply furrowed together. he rolled his eyes and turned back around, "nothing."
lani rolled their eyes back, walking closer to try and get a look at what he was making. she looked to see some perfectly round pancakes cooking in the pan.
"yum! make me some, please!" lani begged, but it was stopped quickly when rin looked at them like she was stupid.
"they already are? duh?" rin said as if it was obvious.
"yer too kind rinny!" lani said slapping him on the back, which he just grunted to.
lani walked back into their room to grab their phone, and noticed the billions of texts messages she had on their phone.
"the hell– mal die or somethin'?" lani mumbled to themself. but, that didn't make sense since mal was one of the people she got a message from.
she opened her phone and went to the message app. their eyes widened from the messages they go. most of them, at some point, read, 'happy birthday lani!'.
the shorter black haired one ran out their room and back into the kitchen, "rin, ya bitch! ya didn't say happy birthday to me!"
"oh shut up, you didn't even realize it was your birthday till a minute ago," the male said, stacking the last few pancakes, and placing them on the small table. "eat."
lani had a warm smile on their face, thankful for such a..."kind" roomate. at least, he was occasionally.
they sat together and enjoyed the fluffy treat, talking about what lani was planning to celebrate.
"i haven't really had time to plan anythin' cause of school," lani said swallowing the bite she had in their mouth. "maybe a dinner? i'm not sure yet."
"how lukewarm," rin said, thinking she'd do something bigger. "i expected something more extravagant from you."
"shut up!"
rin chuckled a little, then stood up and walked to his bedroom. he came back out with 5 bags of 'sour patch watermelon' candies.
"yer too nice today, rin! the world's endin'!" lani enthusiastically spoke, snatching the bags from rin's hands.
rin scoffed as lani opened one of the bags.
12:46 P.M.
"how's my favorite girlfriend's birthday?!" shidou shouted as lani was walking towards him.
"i'm yer only girlfriend, dumbass!" lani said slapping his arm once she was within reach.
"or are you..." shidou said teasingly, wrapping his arm around lani's shoulders. he guided them towards the restaurant they were attending for a small lunch.
"yes." she said with a straight face. shidou only laughed at them, then opened the door so lani could walk in.
the blondie already had made a reservation beforehand, so they were sat as soon as they walked in.
after the waiter took their food order, they just stated at each other quietly for a moment, squinting at one another's face.
shidou blinked first, making lani raise both arms in celebration, "hah! i win!"
the latter stuck his tongue out. he bent down underneath his seat and pulled out a small pink and white bag.
"open it." he pushed the bag towards them.
"you didn't have ta get me anythin', ryu!" lani said, shock evident in their tone.
"shut up and open it!" ryusei rushed, leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed.
lani obliged, taking out the tissue white paper, and pulling out a ring box. lani slapped their hand to the their mouth and looked quickly at shidou.
"ryu–"
"it's not a wedding ring if that's what you're thinking."
lani breathed out thankfully. now, if it was a wedding ring...lani would have just gotten up and left.
"it's matching rings, not promise ones," shidou said grabbing the ring from the box and sliding it onto lani's ring finger. "you know i can't keep promises."
lani laughed at his honesty, then their eyes went to the pretty ringer that sat perfectly on their finger.
it had a small infinity sign engraved into it, which she found absolutely adorable. no, she found shidou's overall gesture to be adorable. it differed from their usual "mean" relationship.
"thank you, ryusei," lani reached over the table and grabbed shidou's hands, interlocking them together.
ryusei gave their hand a squeeze, not being able to find any words to say in the moment.
the waiter interrupted their sentimental moment with their drinks. once drinks were server, and entrees were put in, they went back to their conversation.
"i have another gift for you later!" ryusei said cheekily.
lani looked at him weirdly and confused, "later? what's happenin later?"
"nothin!"
"tell me ya, antenned freak!"
5:21 P.M.
"i already said it's a surprise!"
lani groaned as she was forced to walk blindfolded through the parking lot.
"if i trip cause of yer stupidness, ryu, i swear!" lani yelled, tightly gripping the arm of their boyfriend.
"i won't, geez!" he rolled his eyes, keeping his hand on their back to make sure she doesn't trip.
once they arrived to the building, ryusei slowly led lani down a flight of stairs and into a room.
it was...quiet. well, until someone sneezed.
"meguru!"
"i couldn't help it! the feathers were tickling my nose!"
lani ripped the blindfold off, and as she did, everyone jumped up in unison.
"happy birthday lani!"
a big grin made its way to lani's lips, and she clapped happily. "you– you guys ohmygod!"
aya and emi ran towards lani, throwing a 'birthday girl' sash over them and a birthday crown on top of their head.
"i have no words this is so– so much young leo!" lani said in awe. around them were pink and white decorations, and pictures of young leonardo dicaprio as gatsby from 'the great gatsby' were displayed around the rented out party room.
everyone was clad in sad attempts for 1920 clothing, there weren't many options for clothes.
"enough admiring! it's time to partyyy!" ray said, queuing the small time DJ they had to start the music.
with music blaring and everyone having a great time, lani was happy. she never thought she'd be spending their birthday like this, she means because of young leo, of course.
lani was dancing with mal and amya when she got pulled away from the crowd by rin. he bent down to their ear level and whispered in their ear.
"shidou's looking for you in the hall."
lani nodded and patted rin on the shoulder before shimming their way into the hall.
"ryu? is everything okay?" lani asked seeing their said boyfriend leaning against the wall.
"yeah," ryusei said, and looked at lani. "you havin' fun?"
"lots!" she said leaning their body on his. "thanks for planning it for me."
"how'd you know it was me?"
"hana slipped up."
"that brit..."
lani laughed and looked up at ryusei, only to see his pink eyes looking down at them already.
they both leaned in, foreheads touching and lips just an inch apart.
"where's my other gift?" lani whispered, their breath tickling shidou's cheeks and lips.
ryusei placed a hand behind lani's neck and pushed them closer, making their lips crash together softly. they kissed for what felt like forever, but in reality was only a few seconds.
once they pulled away from their sweet kiss, shidou took the hand that was behind lani's head and pinched their butt.
"there's your gift!"
