   Cross's pov

"Raven, don't you dare drop that," I warned as she picked up the next breakable object in the vile antique shop we were in. Everything smelled... unpleasant.

Raven looked up and for a moment my breath caught. It was dark in the shop, and even without her magic, her large green eyes seemed to spark. "It's fine, I won't drop the glass swan, I know better," she turned to put it down and fumbled.

I reached out, arms going around her waist to catch her, the swan held tightly in her small hands. She laughed nervously, looking up at me. "Oops?"

"Put it down," I said and pulled back slowly. Raven rolled her eyes and obeyed, setting it back on the shelf, a flush blooming on her cheeks.

"Okay, okay, you sound like River, and you look nervous," her pretty eyes narrowed. I forced an easy going sigh and gazed at an old tapestry.

"Why would you say that?" I scoffed and walked past Raven, heading towards the door. She hurried after me.

I froze, one hand on the door, the other suddenly grabbed by Raven, her grip soft but firm. "Because, I know you, is this about Oliver?"

A chill ran down my spine. "Maybe," I said and looked over my shoulder, raising an eyebrow. "I'm fairly certain since I'm not holed up in the house he's going to show up."

Surprise filtered through me at the sudden determination that seemed to fill her and bring her to life. "Well it's fine," she let go of my hand and I slowly opened the door, letting her out first. She walked a few steps before spinning on her heel, turning to face me, arms behind her. "We can handle it together, right?"

I smiled and stepped after her, running a hand through my hair anxiously. "Right," I really didn't like anyone seeing this side of me, but I guess maybe hiding everything I felt was what got me into the mess in the first place.

My stubbornness had always been the ruin of most anything good I had found or gained through my long life. "Where are we off to next?" I asked, walking a little faster as Raven looked around with curious eyes, hardly even paying attention.

Raven wasn't as slick as she thought, it was pretty clear to me something else was going on other than Clair.

She smiled slightly, seeming carefree as she suddenly stopped and gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. "Cross! It's a pet store! Let's go in, please!" Raven pouted at me a little, eyes almost seeming to tear up from her excitement.

"We're not keeping anything, no matter how cute it is," I told her but opened the door for her. Raven rushed in and her lips parted in wonder.

I leaned on the wall and watched her run up to a small cage of kittens for people to see and pet. Raven cooed at them and tried to pick up as many as possible.

Feeling eyes I glanced over to the side, seeing a dog eyeing me. I raised an eyebrow. The fuck you looking at?

The dog cowered and pushed himself into the wall. I looked back at Raven, lips twitching. That's what I thought,

Raven suddenly stopped moving and a rosy blush bloomed on her face, a giggle leaving her as she put the cats back.

I narrowed my eyes, trying to understand her new odd behavior. "Raven," I called and placed my hands in my pockets. "Don't suffocate them," I warned as she went to the puppies next.

She stuck out her tongue. "You're just jealous,"

My lips lifted but I didn't comment as she rubbed her nose into the puppies and mumbled something about, 'dying from cuteness'

The young girl at the register giggled at Raven's behavior and pretended to read a book while watching her interact with the puppies, and I couldn't blame her.

Raven was too cute for her own good. The girl caught my eyes and mouthed, 'lucky bastard'

I smiled at the girl and nodded, walking over to Raven. "I think you've harassed them enough, let's go grab something to eat,"

Raven looked up at me, widening her eyes. "Can't we get one? We can hide it from River! He'll never know!"

I shook my head. "No, you have puppies at Aaron's house, remember?"

Raven heaved a sigh. "You're right.... Oh! Can we get ice cream?"

I grinned and turned my back on her. "If you're good..."

Raven huffed and crossed her arms, walking ahead of me to the door. "I'm always good,"

I snorted and followed her outside. "Not even in my dreams,"

Raven grabbed my hand and smirked. "You dream of me?"

I bent my head and brushed my lips over her forehead, lingering. "Yes, of course I do,"

Raven giggled and shook her hair from her face, looking around as we walked. "Can we get... hmm, what do I want?" She wondered and stopped short, inhaling. "I smell pizza, can we get some?"

"Anything you want," I said easily. Raven stopped short and looked me in the eye.

"What if I want kangaroo legs?" She asked seriously.

"Oh my god," I sighed and prodded her forward. "Let's go get some pizza then,"

Raven rolled her eyes and led me towards the smell of the pizza, looking overjoyed. Then suddenly she stopped and made an odd growling sound in her throat I found adorable, but knew she was probably mad at something.

I followed her eyes and paused, unsure of how to react as my eyes met Oliver's. He smiled and pushed himself off a wall, strolling over.

Raven glared at him. "No one invited you, shoo, Cross doesn't want you around anymore."

Oliver didn't look at Raven, his eyes staying on mine. "Is that really what you said? We've been friends forever," his voice was coaxing, and I found myself hesitating.

Surprise filled me as Raven slowly grabbed my hand, and my head tilted down to look at her. She was focused on Oliver, seeming furious, but she held her tongue.

She must want that ice cream pretty bad, I mused, finding myself at ease.

"Yes, that's what I said, excuse us," I stepped past Oliver, ignoring the shock filling his green eyes as Raven stuck her tongue out when she thought I wasn't looking, happily skipping after me.

"Cross, wait," Oliver fell into step with me, and I felt his eyes searching my face. "We need to talk,"

"I think we've done enough talking," I said easily, Raven's little hand giving me courage. "Go find some one else, Oliver, I'm done,"

Raven nodded silently and narrowed her eyes at Oliver. "Your aura is different than normal," she said slowly and Oliver stopped looking at me, gazing at Raven in shock.

"What?" He asked slowly, shaking his head.

Raven shrugged. "It's black, tainted, have you been around a lot of demons recently?"

"Killing them; with Clair," Oliver said slowly and looked at his hand. Disgust filled me. Clair, God I hate that bitch, I thought and scowled.

"Well," Raven said cheerfully. "Bye then, see you never,"

Oliver looked at her dryly. "I'm not done talking -"

"Yes you are," Raven hissed and narrowed her eyes. "Cross hates your guts, I hate you guts- everyone hates your guts, goodbye,"

"Harsh," Oliver touched his chest and sent Raven a closed eyes smile. "I see why my Cross likes you,"

I made a noise in my throat. "Say that and I'll vomit," I met his gaze. "Oliver, I'm serious this time, I'm done, no more of this."

Oliver looked furious. "Cross-"

"Oh hey," Raven interrupted in a dreamy tone. "Demons, humans can't see em' huh?"

"You're joking," Oliver groaned and followed the direction of her pointed finger. "Why the hell are they're so many? Whoever is summoning them is going to get their ass kicked when I find them."

I inhaled and let go of Raven's hand, looking at her. "Do you intend to fight them? Or should we leave them to idiot?" I asked.

Raven eyed Oliver. "We might have to pitch in, he looks kinda weak,"

Oliver sneered. "Says the human hybrid?"

Raven smiled and tilted her head to the side. "I have so many aces up my sleeve, you wouldn't be able to count them,"

She suddenly paused and her eyes clouded over a little, seeming to not be present anymore. A dark red blush suddenly covered her cheeks and she nodded. "Raven?" I asked and raised an eyebrow.

Her strange behavior would be the death of me. "I think," her eyes suddenly rolled into the back of her head and the demons screeched, turning to black goop in a matter of seconds.

I reached out to grab Raven, freezing when Oliver caught her instead, having been closer. Oliver met my gaze, eyes dark and filled with ill intentions.

"Give her here," I said coldly and reached out. Oliver looked down at Raven.

"If I loved her, would you care for me again?" He asked and I sighed.

"It's not just Raven," I said shortly.

"What was his name? Fallon?" Oliver asked and I shook my head.

"Oliver, I don't want to do this anymore, nothing you can do will change that. It isn't just Raven, it's everyone."

He trembled with anger and stroked a finger down Raven's cheek, making me tense. Then, all at once, he shoved her into my arms, face far closer to mine than I would like.

My eyes went wide as his lips ghosted my cheek before he disappeared, using his supernatural speed. I felt my shoulders loosen in relief.

My gaze drifted to the dead demons. Raven didn't show any signs of using magic. So how the fuck did she do that?
