Who goes you?

I go off your streetlight.

Those were the small talks I heard, while I handed over the package and took my money.

My money was the major concern.

Suddenly hearing a loud sound, I turn around immediately, only to see Jomjom involved in a fight.

It wasn't a funny sight. I knew those dudes. Obviously from a rival cult. Jomjom wasn't supposed to be here.

"Guy, here no be your territory. Make I never off your streetlight. (Thhis isn't your territory, I shouldn't kill you),"

This statement was directed to me by a huge guy. Who I don't think I have seen here before.

I only come here to sell, besides I have a deal the man in charge of this area, I pay good amount to distribute at this spot.

"Guy, no dey do pass yourself, make I never hunt you. ( Guy don't bite more than you can chew, so as not to get on my bad side)." Jomjom says coming between the both of us. I noticed the other guy he almost got into a fight with, was nowhere to be seen.

"Come who you be? (Who are you?)"

"Which time you show face for the unit. Which time did this place become your territory? (When did you come to this place, when did this place turn into your territory.)"Jomjom asks glaring at the dude, he seemed older than I was, but I guess he was Jomjom's age or probably older by a year or something.

He was a new face entirely, I don't think I had ever seen him in the streets before.

"Who goes you?" The dude asks pushing Jomjom roughly.

That was all it took to aggravate the issue, because currently, Jomjom was on this dude, punching the hell out of him.

When this sort of thing happened, I always disappeared because I wasn't one of them, neither did I have Selina like most of the dudes here.

But my bosom friend was involved, I couldn't just run away, especially when he was sticking up for me.

In no time, the guys from the other guys' cult group were already all over.

Fuck up

A gunshot fired in the air.

God, na so I take die today?

That was the first thing that got into my mind.

"Oreva, tuwama. (Run)"

That was on order from Jomjom.

I couldn't move, the shock I felt. This was officially the first scandal I have gotten during dealing.

Schoolboys do patrol during dealings but I always found my way to escape. Schoolboys was what we called the police.

This one had to do with the street boys, I knew how brutal it could go, especially if someone gets killed.

Aro

Eloho marine

Die it

I didn't pick anything else, because my legs were almost touching my head in the race

Even though I was to die by guns, not those ones oh.

You need to see how ugly they were, you could tell they were handmade. No surviving from that.

Ewo

I shall not die by gun.

I shall not die

Jesus

Jesus

Save me oh

As ridiculous as it was sounding, those were my words, as I ran as fast as I could.

Suddenly I felt someone pass me with so much force and speed.

Looking ahead, it was Jomjom running like it was end time.

I almost choked on laughter, on instinct.

This was a critical condition, but I couldn't control it. I was laughing, especially with how fast Jomjom was.

I was laughing so hard, that I was almost choking.

So hard I could feel a tear roll down my cheek.

Jomjom was running.

This was something new.

To be frank.

I had stopped in front of a pepper soup joint, Mama Tega's Bear parlour. It was very popular because she had one of the best pepper soups in town. She was good, although some of those jobless men, didn't only come over for her soup. Her sales girls and two of her daughters helped her, I had seen some of those men, occasionally take them to a corner.

"Nigga. Those guys selina, no be tie tie oh. ( Those guys Selina isn't the tied ones.) Na correct wincherman do them. (It's a good native doctor that did it for them." Jomjom says looking grim.

I smiled.

The Jomiloju I knew never backed down in a fight, to see him run like that. He had seen something he couldn't carry.

"I don't know what that ekuke problem is," I say calling the guy who tried to harass me names. With the amount of bullying I get sometimes, I am been pushed to join cultism. But whenever I think about my sisters and the fact I am the only one they have got and putting them in such danger, it weakens me.

One thing about the streets, when you get in, getting out is totally messed up. If you mistakenly bite more than you can chew, your family members will face the consequences.

Some persons that don't know me, seeing the friends I hang around with, would mistake me to be a cultist, even though I wasn't, I preferred it that way. I got some levels of respect.

Especially with the business I am into. I was already into the streets, it was a rough sea. Going deep, there wasn't going to be a going back, I wasn't ready for that.

"Fuck them," Jomjom says, bringing out a pack of cigarettes.

That moment I remembered he had a show tonight.

"Lighter?" He asks me, meanwhile I search my inner pocket. I wasn't with a lighter, but a matchbox.

I handed it over to him, he took a draw, before handing it to me. I follow suit, then give it back to me.

"How was school?" He asks.

I only hiss, remembering my day, and the side talks I got. I didn't even want to reason it.

"Not good?" He asks with concern, gulping hard, handing it over to me.

I took a smoke, and hand it back.

"You might not be able to deal there in a while." He says.

I knew that for a fact, and it wasn't good news. How was I to survive without it? My sisters depended on me, and the money I got from supplying was my only hope in raising money.

"I don't even know. Should I talk to Tiny..., "

"Dont even bother, that guy is a bastard, " He says meanwhile I suck on my breath, thinking about what else to do.

"We will arrange something," Jomjom says suddenly bringing out his phone. He paused awhile, then turns to me.
"See Blessing oh. She dey try pin belle on me oh. (She is trying to pin a pregnancy on me)." Jomjom says and hisses.

I knew it was going to get to this, I had even warned him about that particular girl, the number of men I saw her with. People's fathers.

"You don enter Mama Tega hot soup," I say with a mock smile.

Him being responsible or not, Mama Tega, was trouble. Getting her daughter pregnant, wasn't going to be funny.

"You haven't even entered the industry. Here is the first baby mama..., "

"Ore, e no funny. (It's not funny." He says looking grim.

"Area scatter ni." That was Sopunuchi's voice.

I turn back immediately, making an eye contact with him. Meanwhile, he and Jomjom shakes hands.

Slowly he gives me a playful nudge.

I noticed he was looking soft, a guy must have cashed out.

"Guy, you do cash out. (Guy did you hit a huge sum of money), "

Ah, Jomjom had to beat me to it.

"Let go and take pepper soup. Poor boys, watching from a distance and can't afford it..., "

"Make thunder never fire you there oh. (Thunder shouldn't strike you) You dey mad." Jomjom attacks immediately.

I only smiled.

Typical of Sopunuchi, whenever he nacked any person maga, that's how he will be feeling too important, till he spends all the money. We called him Nuchi for shorts.

It remains for him to lie us all on the floor, and start walking on us.

"I dey lie?" He asks laughing hard.

Sopunuchi was one of the guys I rolled with, I knew him through Jomjom though. He was into online fraud, popularly known as Yahoo, though he didn't make much from it. He was still an upcoming. The highest he had ever made was five hundred thousand.

Trust me it always finished before a week. He lived large. New clothes, shoes, clothes. He was the well dressed in our friend group.

"Call me Nuchi money." He says laughing loud.

Sopunuchi was older by a year though, he was done with secondary school, I wouldn't say he had plans to further, because he never said anything of that sort, and I didn't know him as someone from a well to do family.

We lived in what you would call the slums in PH.

"Guy get out," Jomjom says and hisses, meanwhile Nuchi smiled. I noticed he had a new iPhone.

It was iPhone 11, not his regular iPhone 7, he definitely did hit something big.

"You got a new phone, " I ask admiring his hand.

"Na swap oh. I add more money. ( I swapped the phone with my previous one, I added more more), " He says.

"Abi, we no dey drink the pepper soup again?" Jomjom asks, meanwhile I smile.

So his mind was even on the pepper soup.

"You go try to control your throat. (Control your throat), "

"Thunder fire you. I don't blame you." Jomjom says laughing. "I don suffer for your hand."

"You still want to enter there, even with Blessing?" I couldn't help but asks, meanwhile Luchi stared at his phone, not interested in whatever we were saying.

"Luchi, that money we want to waste. Let's use it and go and cook soup at home." Jomjom says dragging Luchi who wanted to protest.

I smiled, fully aware it was for Jomjom's selfish reasons.

Although it favoured me, because it was going to be cooked in my house. That was where they always crashed.

"Abanaya, come here. If you run." I yell.

His name wasn't Abanaya, it was the only name I could come up with at that time. To think some of the boys had scampered.

"Eh, if you run. I swear, I will chase you and beat you blue and black. You too." I say to the other unfortunate one that didn't run on time too.

"See his face like custard cup. My friend come here." Jomjom says.

I noticed both boys shiver.

Jomjom had that in him.

Something that always scared people, even though I always wondered why. Maybe it was because we were so close.

"How many times have I warned you and your friends to stop playing ball in my frontage?" I asked looking grim.

Both boys seemed sixteen or even less, though I couldn't tell their real ages. I knew I was older.

"Shebi, it's when I will slap your milk teeth?" Jomjom asks.

I laughed.

I couldn't help it.

Did Jomjom just call the boy's teeth, milk teeth?

A grown boy for that matter.

Well, I noticed, his teeth were little.

"Slap yourself," I ordered.

This seemed like bullying, but if only you understood the reason behind this.

This boy had been on my case, trust me I have warned him severally to stop coming to my house.

"You dey mad, abi make I help you slap am? (Are you mad or should I help you slap yourself?" Jomjom yells.

I swear, I saw my younger sister peep and run inside.

This particular boy, I had seen him so many times with my fourteen-year-old sister.

You see when boys come and start playing football in your front, and you have teenage sisters at home, use plank and everything you got to chase them away because they aren't coming to play ball. They know what they are doing.

"Oya, frog jump," I instruct, kicking the exact boy on his bum bum.

"You too," Jomjom instructs the other boys.

"At your age, you don dey play ball for person frontage. (At your age you now play ball at people's frontage) , "

If you understand that phrase you do, if you don't you don't.

"I didn't come to look for Ziola. I have stopped talking to her..., "

"Oh, you even know her name, " Jomjom asks, kicking him on the butt. While they both jumped like a frog.

I couldn't hold myself anymore, I was laughing.

I didn't want to do this, but they were proving stubborn. If you had two teenage sisters at home, you would understand my frustration.

I was merely trying to look at for them. I knew how guys could be persistent.

I am a boy, I know every tactic.

"Now repeat after me," Jomjom says kicking the same boy again.

Meanwhile, I laughed so hard.

The other dude's face was funny, I couldn't help but imagine his frustration. He only accompanied a friend and is also receiving the heat.

"I don't have sense," Jomjom says.

"I don't have sense." The boy responds in fright.

"Jomi, free the boy oh," I say laughing out loud.

"Disembark. ( Leave), " Jomjom says knocking both boys on the head. The sound of this made me laugh so hard.

I couldn't control, especially with the way they were running.

It reminded me of the way we ran today, I burst into a fit of laughter.

Perekeme was shivering again. Her body was extremely hot. I had to continue soaking a cloth in a bucket of water and cleaning her body.

Pere was a sickler. It hasn't been easy. This was where all my money went into. I had no savings, neither did I have the support of anyone.

She was just sixteen, sometimes I got so scared, I was going to lose her. My sisters meant the world to me. With them around I had nothing, but at least I got my sisters.

Ziola wasn't a stickler, the relief I got when we ran a test.

I and Dad didn't know she was a sickler, till she fell so sick.

I found out when my Dad was still with us.

The money spent on drugs and hospitals wasn't funny at all.

I was willing to give anything, so long as my sister would be fine. I'm satisfied. But it didn't work that way.

"Pere, sit up," I instruct, trying to get her out of the cloth she was wearing presently. Meanwhile, Ziola assisted.

"She hasn't eaten," Ziola complains.

"Pere, why? Don't you want to get better?" I ask calmly, pulling her closer to me, while I checked her temperature.

"I will eat." She says her voice so tiny. Even when I knew she wasn't going to yet.

I had to force her, so it could work with her drops.

Suddenly thinking about the fact I couldn't distribute in my usual spot anymore.

There was no way, I could survive for long without that. How could I provide for my sisters and myself, especially Pere? It wasn't going to he funny.

"Brother Oreva," Ziola calls out suddenly giving me a look, meanwhile, I use a cloth to cover Perekeme's body.

"Have you eaten?" I ask calmly.

"Sorry." She says her head bowed down.

"Why?" I ask wondering what she did wrong.

"Zino, I told him to stop coming." She says.

One look at her, the fact I planned on giving her a piece of my mind because of Zino changed.

I could see the fear in her eyes.

When I was mad, they both knew to behave.

"I don't mind if you make friends with boys. But not that kind, especially with Zino and what you told me he said to you. I don't want that." I say looking grim.

I had forced out whatever he had been saying to her out.

I was once that age.

Knew those stuff.

The last thing I wanted was a pregnancy scandal for my sisters.

I had lots of problems as it was.

I mostly didn't know how to go about talking about it.

It was difficult.
