Right so we all know how popular the ship of frodo x sam also known by me as frosam is in the fandom
like even the old side of the fandom HAS to acknowledge that the way "cHrIstiAn wOuLd nEvEr wRiTe gAy cHaRacTeRs iNtO hIs bOoKs" Tolkien CHOSE to write their relationship was a little bit SUS and theres just some moments where like come on theres no heterosexual explanation here
and obviously if youve WATCHED watched the movies and READ read the books you know that CLEARLY something was going on there and they HAD to be more than just companions and besties iykyk 👀👀👀
so I SHIP THIS with my WHOLE HEART and i started rewatching lotr last night bc its my comfort movie and i just HAD to do a rant on this
so here are my reasons as why frodo x sam is BASICALLY canon
1) THE QUOTES
did you really think i was gonna do a rant and NOT provide SOME quote material to justify my otp??? OFC NOT. DISCLAIMER these two quotes are two i thought of OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD the last time i reread the books was a few months ago and the fact that i was able to think of these line for line and find them in under 3 minutes in my copies of the books really says a lot abt this ship

these are just two that i personally when i was reading was like OOP yeah that's something right there
"He ran to Frodo and took his left hand, awkwardly and shyly. He stroked it gently and then he blushed and turned hastily away."
- The Fellowship of the Ring, Book Two, Chapter 1: Many Meetings, page 219
HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT?!?!??!??! HMMMMM?!?!??!
He then goes on to comment how warm frodo's hand is bc this is after he healed from the stabbing w a morgul blade and how it felt so cold during all the nights and now it feels normal again
now how often are they holding hands again?????? 👀👀👀👀
IM JUST SAYING
then we've got--
"Frodo's face was peaceful, the marks of fear and care had left it; but it looked old, old and beautiful, as if the chiseling of the shaping years was now revealed in many fine lines that had before been hidden, though the identity of the face was not changed. Not that Sam Gamgee put it that way to himself. He shook his head, as if finding words useless, and murmured: 'I love him. He's like that, and sometimes it shines through, somehow. But I love him, whether or no.'"
THERE IS SO MUCH TO UNPACK HERE
so first we start off with this absolutely gorgeous lyrical description of how frodo's been affected by their journey from sam's POV, and it SPECIFICALLY describes him as "old and beautiful" and it has this specification of how the Ring has brought out some of the age lines on his face but how somehow they SUIT him
AND THEN IT VERY SPECIFICALLY SAYS "Not that Sam Gamgee put it that way to himself" meaning that sam's simple gardenerussy wouldnt be able to think those words specifically (i feel like im saying that word a lot. sorry) AND SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?????
THIS IS BASICALLY SAYING THAT IN THIS SCENE SAM THOUGHT FRODO LOOKED PRETTY
NOW HEAR ME OUT OKAY right so sam couldnt EXPLAIN to himself WHY frodo looked this way and specify HOW the ring was affecting him so much but he DID KNOW that he loved him ('I love him. He's like that, and sometimes it shines through, somehow. But I love him, whether or no.') despite that and he didnt know WHY so looking at frodo during this scene all he wouldve been able to think is basically "He's beautiful no matter what and I love him."
IF THATS NOT LOVE (AND NOT PLATONIC LOVE!!!!!!!!!) THEN IDK WHAT IS
okay and there are SO many more quotes SO many more moments these are just two specific (sorry) ones that i thought of at this moment and i think they prove this ship pretty dang well
2) They went through SO much trauma together
now hobbit or not any living being will have a stronger bond with another living being if they went through a traumatic experience together
its universally acknowledged right?? like thats why the forced proximity trope works, thats just all of hunger games 2, thats why car crash and plane crash and whatever survivors stay in touch years/decades after what happened happened

THEY WOULD NEVER HAVE SURVIVED WITHOUT EACH OTHER
THEY WOULD HAVE BOTH DIED THE QUEST WOULD HAVE DIED THEY WOULD HAVE GIVEN UP THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER FREAKING MADE IT LIKE COME ON GUYS THEY NEEDED EACH OTHER
THEY WENT THROUGH SO MUCH AND WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE IT OUT IF IT HADNT BEEN FOR EACH OTHER
THEY LOVED EACH OTHER FUCK IT THEY WERE IN LOVE
these two had a bond like absolutely NO other and anyone who says it was jUsT pLaToNiC is LYING TO THEMSELVES

so anyways basically with everything they went through they had to have had something after is all im saying
3) Sam's marriage - aka the canon
so we all know that after they came back to the shire after everything happened there was the scouring of the shire chapter where a bunch of shit went down and sam married rosy
NOW THIS MADE SENSE IN THE MOVIES RIGHT
bc in the BEGINNING of the first one we see that sam clearly has a crush on rosy right and they have like a moment at bilbos b day party
HE NEVER MENTIONS HER IN THE BOOKS
HE MENTIONS HER LIKE DAD ONCE TALKING ABT HOW THEY USED TO GO FISHING
HER MF D A D
HE MENTIONS HER DAD MORE THAN HER AND THEY GET MARRIED IN THE END?!??!?!?!?

sam and rosy moved in w frodo and they had a bunch of kids and it was like the 3 of them and later the kids living together now right
and then later frodo went to valinor
AND THEN ROSY DIED AND SAM WENT TO VALINOR TO LIKE JOIN FRODO AND BE WITH HIS TRUE ONE LOVE IN THE END
THIS is canon
THIS actually happened
NOW lets look at how the fandom interprets this
4) Sam's sexuality - aka how the canon is INTERPRETED
so - concept: sam is pansexual
IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE
LIKE LOOK AT THIS MANS

HE JUST LIKES EVERYONE EQUALLY HE HAS NO PREFERENCE HES JUST A VIBE HES A GEM HES A BEAN
okay now another concept: sam is pans and is in a poly relationship with frodo and rosy

NO BC I ACTUALLY LOVE THIS
LIKE HE WOULD WANT TO SETTLE DOWN AND HAVE LIKE A HOMELY PARTNER AND ALSO THO HE STILL LOVES FRODO SO ✨BOOM✨
✨poly relationship with the three of them and they all love each other but frodo has to make the choice of whether or not to go to valinor so he can truly be happy and so he leaves and sam waits till his other love dies and his kids grow up so he can board the ships and go be with frodo in valinor in the end✨
this is SO SIMILAR to aralas where legolas only goes to valior w gimli AFTER aragorn dies

5) Frodo. Just Frodo
Frodo never got married.
the closest he GOT to getting married was a) living with sam and b) being with sam for eternity in valinor
frodo never felt anything even remotely similar for ANYONE like what he felt for sam
