RECAP -
“Kelly, what does this say?” Adam asked pointing on to one of the twenty or so buttons that had the language from the book written on them.
“It says 'Defence'”
“What does that mean?” Jenny asked nervously,
“There is only one way to find out” Zack said reaching over and pressing the butting before anyone could stop him.
“Defence training activated” said the voice as the door to the training room closed.
“Erm guys, where did the door go?” Rachel called from the now locked training room.
“Did that say defence training?” Jenny asked Max worriedly,
“Zack your so stupid” he yelled running to the glass window with Jenny,
“I...I...I didn't mean to...I'm” Zack stuttered,
“OK, I would really like to get out now” Rachel exclaimed as a number of small holes appeared in the wall with cannons sticking out of them.
“Advance Training” the voice said,
“Adam, you need to open that door” Kelly said as Rachel backed up against the locked door,
“I know I’m trying” he shouted frantic flicking switches,
“Now would be good” Max exclaimed as the cannons started to glow preparing to fire,
“almost...” he said,
“Adam!” Jenny shouted in fear,

“Got it” he yelled with a sigh.
“Defence training cancelled” the voice said and everyone let out a sigh as the door was opened and the cannons retreated behind the wall.
Everyone surrounded Rachel when she walked back into the control room.
“Rach I'm so sorry... I really didn't mean-” Zack began,
“Its OK Zack” Rachel said seeing his upset expression,
“You just go charging into things without thinking about the consequences. You need to grow up” Max yelled angry,
“It's OK Max, he said that he was sorry” Rachel defended,
“I am really sorry” Zack sheepishly said,
“It's fine Zack, just think next time” Rachel said she understood that Zack was just really excited, he would have never forgiven himself if something had happened to her.
“It's getting late now anyway, we should get home before our parent's find out we skipped school” suggested Kelly changing the subject,
“Why what time is it?” Max asked,
“Almost three O clock”
“What! oh man I'm going to be late” he cried “I'll call you later” he shouted to Jenny as he ran out of the house.
“We should all head home as well” Kelly said as she started walking out of the control room,
“Yeah, I have to work tonight” Jenny agreed,
“What are you all doing tomorrow?” Rachel asked following Kelly with the others,
“Working again in the morning” Jenny said,
“Gosh your a workaholic, it's Saturday tomorrow right?” Zack asked receiving nods from everyone, “I'm not doing anything” he added,
“Me ether, Why?” Adam asked,
“Well I was just wondering if you guys wanted to come back here to investigate the training room some more?” Rachel suggested,
“Really?” Jenny asked shocked that Rachel wanted to be anywhere near the room after what happened,
“Well if we learn how to use the control desk it would be a great way to help control our 'gifts'” Rachel explained,
“Well it does sound like a good idea” Kelly agreed,
“I'm up for that” Adam said happily, he really wanted to mess with the control desk some more,
“I'll come after work” Jenny said,
“Great, then the rest of us will meet here tomorrow at ten O clock?” Rachel asked and everyone agreed as they left the house and headed home.
Max finally arrived at the football pitch out off breath “Hey Max, where have you been? Coach is going to kill you” a tall guy told him as he ran past,
“Max! Your twenty minuets late” the football coach shouted.
“I know, I'm sorry coach” Max apologized,
“Sorry will not help us win tomorrows game” the coach yelled “If you don't start committing to this team you'll be out” he continued,
“I know …. I will, sorry dad” Max said
“I want to see you put in one hundred and ten percent from now on, starting with fifteen laps around the pitch” Coach Rhead shouted and Max ran off starting his laps. Max knew his dad was right, he had to put all his effort into training he could have no distractions, meaning that he had to find a way to control or better yet stop fire from firing out of his hands, as soon as he could control his 'gift' he could concentrate completely on the upcoming games. Max had one goal and that was to get signed with a football team, he already had scouts coming to his games next month, but if he didn't show them how good he was they wouldn't sign him. It was expected of Max to go professional after school like his brothers had and his dad wouldn't be happy with anything less.
After his laps Mr Rhead allowed him to join the rest of the team in a practice game. “Come on Max, put more effort into it” “Stay focused Max” “Max, Get you head in the game” “Your team is picking up your slack Max” “Your not even trying” the coach yelled until practice was over, “Right boys come in” he shouted signalling the team to huddle around him, each exhausted and dripping with sweat, “OK, good practice lads, games tomorrow I want to see you all energetic and focused so get a good nights rest” he said, “Go hit the showers” and with that the boys all ran to the changing rooms, “Not you Max” Coach yelled, “I want you to do an hour and a half extra training” he said,
“Hour and a half?” Max cried in shock he was already exhausted,
“Your not putting in any effort, you need to step up your training if you want to be a professional. Brent and Ash always stayed behind after every practice for extra training” his dad explained,
“Alright” Max agreed running off to start on his running drills, he would always be compared to Brent and Ash, his older brothers. Brent was twenty now and had been professional for three years and Ash was eighteen and just started professional last year, his dad always wanted Max to be as good as his brothers and was never happy with the effort he put into training, but when Max goes professional his dad would finally be proud of him and that's all that he really wanted.
It was half past three when Kelly got home she had waited at the park for ten minuets so that she would arrive at the normal time and her parents wouldn't know she had skipped.
“I'm back” she called hanging her coat on the hook and walking up stairs,
“Not so fast Kelly Jones” her mother called, Kelly's heart filled with fear they had found out, she could tell by the 'your in trouble' look they gave her as she entered the kitchen.
“How was school?” her father asked,
“It …. It was alright” she stuttered, she was in so much trouble,
“What did you learn in Government and Economics?” they asked,
“Erm... well”
“I could tell you if you like. You learned nothing because you were not in the class” her mother shouted,
“How could you skip school, you can't afford to miss your lessons. Why would you do such a childish, irresponsible and stupid thing? We expect better from you” her mother continued,
“Your never satisfied” Kelly mumbled,
“What was that?” shouted her father and Kelly snapped.
“I said your never satisfied with what I do” she shouted “You always expect better, even when I get good grades you still aren’t happy. I do the best I can in school, I’m top of the class, I do extra credit reports, but you still want more” she continued tears running down her face, “Well I can't give you any more and I'm fed up of trying to make you proud of me because it's a hopeless task” she shouted and ran up stairs to her room. Drained and relieved she had finally stood up for herself, SHe lay on her bed and growned as what had just happened started to sink in. How could she shout back to her parents? what had come over her? She was going to be in so much trouble she thought, as she covered her face with her pillow.
“Ray start her up, lets see if she is running” Rachel’s dad called sticking his head out of the bonnet of the car.
“Fingers crossed” Rachel shouted as she turned the key, the ignition sparked and the car started to purr. “Music to my ears” Rachel dad said closing the bonnet.
“Mr Hayden will be happy you fixed his baby” Rachel said turning off the ignition,
“Well, we’re a good team kiddo” he smiled
“The best”
“Come on Ray, let's see what your mother is cooking” he said wrapping his arm around her shoulder and walking into their home.
Zack lay sprawled out on a bench outside a shop in town, he hadn't gone home yet and was putting it off for as long as he could, but it was starting to get dark and he would get asked to move soon by the local police, so he slowly stood up and walked home.
When he finally entered his front door he could hear his dad watching TV in the living room. With a sigh he went to the kitchen to get some food, grabbing a half empty box of cereal then checked the fridge for milk, knowing there wouldn't be any.
Instead the fridge was filled with bottles of beer, “Oh, your home” his dad grumbled as he staggered to the fridge and took out three bottles.
“see you've been shopping , maybe next time you could fit some food in with the beer” Zack snarled closing the fridge door,
“Aren’t you eighteen yet?” he slurred,
“No, I’ve got 10 more months to suffer” Zack said walking out of the kitchen up to his room carrying the box of cereal.
Zack would have moved out yesterday if he had somewhere else to go, “Anywhere would be better than this” he though aloud as he heard his dad shouting above the booming TV downstairs. Zack grabbed a bag and filled it with some clothes, picking up his jacket and phone then walked out the house, he couldn't stay here any longer.
