Song^ Overnight by Jake Miller

It's been a few days, and Carol still haven't forgave me. It hurts to know that she won't hardly talk to me or make eye contact with me. Even when I talk to her, she gives me one worded responses and it kills me knowing that it's not going to be easy to get her forgiveness.

I fucked up this time.

The police came by a day after, and of course, they questioned me about Harge and everything. I had to be honest with them, because I was tired of lying and it was just digging me further in the ground.

When I asked what Harge said, they couldn't give me any answers. I most likely knew that he lied and told them something completely different to what I told them, but right now, I didn't care.

It was Thursday, and Carol decided to go into work today since she missed the last three days. I woke up when she did, and I overheard her talking on the phone with Richard and asked him if he could come and stay with me today.

Even though she doesn't forgive me, she still worries about me.

Little does she know that I texted Richard and told him not to come, because I had someone else. He replied back but didn't ask any questions. He's most likely still pissed off with me to, and I don't blame him.

It seems like everyone hates me.

After Carol left, I texted Phyllis and asked her to come and stay with me while Carol was at work. Hopefully she didn't hate me either. I mean, I had to tell her sooner or later about who attacked her, and I had to own up and tell her everything.

I surely thought she was going to be pissed too, but come to find out, she said that we could talk when she got here. I knew that my sister was going to be understanding about these things, because she did put me through hell for four years, so she really shouldn't say anything.

I heard the doorbell as I was sitting on the couch and I got up to answer it. Phyllis smiled at me when I opened the door and I smiled back. She walked in and wrapped her arms around my neck and hugged me. I hugged her back and felt her kiss my cheek.

When we pulled back, she looked at me, "Are you hungry?" I smiled and nodded then followed her into the kitchen.

I sat down at the table while she was looking for something to cook. After she got everything out, she stood in front of the stove and started making conversation.

"So, how are things?" she asked.

I sighed, "Like, in what sense?" I questioned.

She glanced at me, "Like, your marriage, and your life," she cracked an egg over the pan.

I looked down at the table, "Terrible and horrible," I traced the patterns of the table with my finger until I heard Phyllis.

"Care to elaborate?"

I looked up and watched her for a moment, "I don't know. My life is shit because of what I've done, and now Carol won't forgive me and it hurts," I didn't want to cry but damn, thinking about her makes me want to.

"Have you tried talking to her?" she glanced at me.

I stared at her, "Yes, Phyllis. How else am I supposed to communicate?" was she being for real?

She chuckled, "That's not what I meant," I watched her and she glanced at me. "I mean, have you tried to sit her down and really talk to her? Work things out? Come to the matter point of view? Verbal communication?" she focused back on the stove and I sat there staring at her.

"I told her I was sorry for like a million times," I watched as she sighed then shook her head.

"Sorry is not going to be enough in this situation," she glanced at me.

I groaned, "That's what she said but I don't understand what I have to do to gain her forgiveness," I was clueless and she wasn't making it any easier for me. I stared at Phyllis for a moment, "Please help me," I pleaded.

She shook her head and glanced at me, "This is your mess, not mine. You have to think for yourself," she continued to cook and I sat there watching her.

I hit my head on the table and groaned. This was useless. I thought that if I brought Phyllis over here, she would help me to figure this shit out, but she is just as useless as me trying to figure it out on my own.

She got done cooking and brought two plates to the table. I watched as she sat down across from me and we both started eating. After a while of silence, I decided to speak, "I hope you know that you're useless when it comes to situations," I stared at her as she had her mouth open.

"Wow, thanks," I chuckled as she wiped her mouth. "Terry, I can't fight your battles for you. You have to learn how to deal with them on your own. This is your marriage, nobody else's. You know Carol more than anybody, so you should know how to gain her forgiveness," she stared at me.

I sighed, "I guess you're right," I watched as she smiled.

"Aren't I always right?" she chuckled as I rolled my eyes.

We ate and talked a few, then after we were done, she cleaned up the mess. After she was done cleaning, she looked at her watch, "I have to go. Gregory has a doctor's appointment today," she looked at me as I nodded.

"Ok, well thanks for coming over and staying with me," I smiled as she stared at me.

"Are you going to be alright here by yourself?" she questioned. I could see the concern in her eyes but I nodded.

"Yeah, I'll be fine," I smiled and she smiled back. We hugged before I told her goodbye as she was walking out of the door. I watched as she got into her car and I shut the door then pulled my phone out.

I wasn't going to be alone, because I have someone else who would love to come and stay with me. I dialled her number and after a few rings she picked up. I smiled and asked if she wanted to come and stay with me while Carol was at work, and I couldn't have received a faster yes in my life.

After we hung up, I decided to go and watch TV to wait. As I was sitting on the couch, I couldn't help but think about what Phyllis said. I knew that this was my fault and that I should be the one to fix it, but it was hard when I didn't have anything in mind to what I was going to do.

I would need a little help, right?

I heard the doorbell after a few minutes and before I could get up to open it, I heard a voice. "I'm here!" she yelled and I chuckled as I turned my head and saw her walk in the living room. She smiled at me, "There she is," she walked to the couch.

I smiled, "Here I am," I looked back and caught sight of Elysia. I turned to Genevieve, "How sweet, you brought your girlfriend," I chuckled as she rolled her eyes.

"Well, I had to. She doesn't like staying by herself," she shrugged and sat down when Elysia came to the couch.

"That's not true," she looked at Genevieve. "I just don't like it when you're not there," she crossed her arms and I chuckled.

Genevieve looked at her, "Yeah, that's basically the matter," she shrugged as Elysia opened her mouth and stared at her.

I chuckled, "Ok, so if y'all could stop arguing for five seconds, that'll be great," they stared at me as I continued, "I called you here because I need help," I watched as Genevieve stared at me.

"What kind of help?" she questioned.

"Carol and I aren't on speaking terms right now because of what happened, and she doesn't exactly forgive me for what I did, and I need help trying to win back her forgiveness," I stared at her.

"What happened?" she stared at me waiting.

I sighed and decided to tell them both everything that happened. They needed to know, and even though I hardly knew them, they deserved the right to know why my life is shit.

After I was done, they both stared at me, not saying anything for a moment. I felt my heart pound in my chest and I didn't know what their reactions were going to be now that I told them everything.

Genevieve was first, "Wow. That's some crazy shit," I nodded and watched her look at Elysia, then at me, "But, I don't blame you,"

I stared at her, "You don't?" I questioned, clearly confused.

She shook her head, "No. I understand why you did what you did, and to be honest, you didn't know what was going to happen. I mean, you may have had a good mindset of what could happen, but you never knew exactly what was waiting for you. So really, no one is to blame except for that dick, Harge," she shrugged as I chuckled.

I was relieved to finally have someone on my side. It felt good to know that I wasn't a piece of shit who fucked everything up. Genevieve genuinely doesn't blame me for what happened.

I sighed, "Thank you," she gave me a confused look but I continued, "For not blaming me. I got blamed by two of the people who I thought would always be on my side, but I was wrong. But, here you are, a woman I hardly know, and you don't blame me for what happened," I smiled at her.

She shrugged, "I'm not going to put the blame on you,"

I smiled, "Thanks," she smiled back and we all talked for a few minutes. "I need a favour from you two," I looked at them as they were staring at me. "I need help to try and figure out what to do for Carol," I watched as Genevieve gave me a confused look and I sighed, "I need to do something for her in order for her to forgive me,"

Genevieve nodded and looked at Elysia then back at me, "We can surely help you," she smiled and I looked at Elysia as she smiled too.

I watched them both as they started talking and I couldn't help but have a smile on my face.

This might work.

WalMart was always a good choice when it came to finding something cheap. They had some pretty cool things for whatever you were looking for.

Genevieve, Elysia and I walked down the aisles looking for something. I didn't know what we were looking for because they never told me, but they knew so I didn't question it.

Elysia ran out of the aisle and I looked at Genevieve, "Where is she going?"

She shrugged, "Nobody knows," she looked around the aisle while pushing the cart around.

I looked around but nothing really caught my eye. Nothing stood out and nothing screamed 'forgiveness'. I sighed and thought that this was hopeless.

Elysia came back with a handful of candles and when she threw them in the cart, Genevieve stared at her, "What the hell, Ely?"

She smiled, "They're candles,"

Genevieve rolled her eyes, "I can see what they are," she picked one up, "What I'm saying is why are you putting them in the cart?" she questioned.

Elysia shrugged, "Because candles are romantic," she smiled and I chuckled.

Genevieve looked at the candles in the cart, "How many did you get?"

I looked at Elysia as she stared at the candles, "I don't know? Like twenty?" she stared at Genevieve then her eyes lit up, "Hold on!" she yelled as she was running out of the aisle again.

I chuckled as Genevieve sighed. She looked over at me, "You see what I deal with?" she shook her head.

As we were walking down the aisle, I looked at Genevieve, "I forgot to ask," she looked at me. "How old are you and Elysia?" I asked. I didn't get her age when we first met and I was curious.

"I'm twenty seven and Elysia is twenty six," she looked at me.

I nodded, "Wow. Your ages aren't far off,"

She nodded, "Yeah, but sometimes I feel like I'm dealing with a child when it comes to Elysia," I chuckled as she shook her head, "But, I wouldn't trade her for anything," she smiled at me and I smiled back. We walked a little more and Genevieve spoke, "So, what about you and Carol?" she asked as she was staring at me.

"I'm twenty five, and Carol is thirty eight," I watched as her eyes widened and I chuckled. "I know," I nodded.

She shook her head and chuckled, "Damn," we walked out of the aisle and Elysia came towards us with pillows in her arms. Genevieve groaned, "Ely, why?" she said as Elysia threw the pillows in the cart.

Elysia smiled, "Pillows," she pointed out.

Genevieve rolled her eyes, "Yes, I know what they are," I chuckled as I watched them.

Elysia shrugged, "We're looking for romantic stuff, right?" Genevieve nodded. "Ok, then. Pillows are romantic," she stated.

Genevieve stared at her, "How?" she asked.

Elysia smiled, "Because," she looked at me. "If they make up, then you know there is going to be make up sex," she laughed when Genevieve leaned over and laid her head on her arms as they were on the cart.

Genevieve leaned up and sighed, "I'm walking away," she started leaving and I chuckled as I caught up with her.

We looked around some more, and when we came across something, Elysia would grab it and attempt to put it in the cart, but Genevieve refused. I couldn't help but watch them in amusement. It was fun to hang around them because they're always full of energy and happiness, and that's what I needed right now.

As we were standing in line to check out, I looked down in the cart and saw everything that we got. I didn't know if it was going to work or not, but I prayed that it would.

With Genevieve and Elysia's help, I knew that I didn't have to worry.

*

Everything was coming together and honestly, I was getting really happy with how everything was turning out. It looked amazing, and I knew that Carol would be caught off guard, and that's what I wanted.

We put down a blanket in the living room, and moved the furniture so the space would be bigger. Elysia put candles up everywhere, and it looked so cool that I couldn't wait until Carol got home.

We bought wine, but I told Genevieve that Carol couldn't drink so she poured it down the drain and filled water up instead. I chuckled when she brought out some wine glasses. We also bought some cheese and crackers, nothing too fancy, but just something.

We stood in the living room looking around at everything. I smiled at how it turned out and I owed it all to Genevieve and Elysia for helping me. I looked at them, "Thank you both," I smiled at them.

Genevieve shrugged, "What are friends for, right?" she smiled.

Elysia nodded and looked around, "Yeah, this place looks amazing!" she squealed and I chuckled as I watched her.

Genevieve looked around, "It really does look amazing, but what concerns me is that one of the candles will fall and start a fire,"

I looked around and chuckled, "I think we're ok,"

"Yeah," Elysia nodded. "They can say that we went down in flames," she chuckled at her joke and Genevieve rolled her eyes.

I looked at the time and saw that I have about ten minutes until Carol got home. I looked up at them, "I hate to rush you, but Carol is about to be home,"

They nodded and got the hint as I walked them to the door. I smiled at them and thanked them again. I honestly don't know what I would do if they didn't help me, and I know that this is going to catch Carol off guard.

I shut the door after they left and I walked to the living room and looked around before sitting down on the blanket. I looked around and I could hear my heartbeat in my ears as I was waiting until Carol got here.

My nervousness grew as the time went by, and when I heard the door open, my heart was coming out of my chest. I heard keys then footsteps and Carol walked into the living room but froze when she saw me.

She looked around at everything and I knew that she was surprised. She walked further in and stopped to look at me, "What's going on?" she questioned.

I let a breath out that I didn't know that I was holding. "Just a little something for us," I stared at her as she was looking around again.

She walked to me and I looked up at her as she started sitting down across from me. I watched her as she stared at me, "This is amazing," she looked around and I smiled.

"I wanted to do this for us," I handed her a wine glass and she stared at me.

"I don't drink," she started but I pulled out the wine bottle filled with water and smiled when I started pouring it.

"It's water," I poured me some and watched as she took a sip. She sat her glass down and looked at me. I grabbed the plate of cheese and crackers that was in front of us and extended it out to her.

She took some and I placed the plate down and watched her for a moment. She looked at me but didn't say anything and I felt like I needed to do something more to keep this going.

"Um," I started but was clearly lost in my words. I looked at her as she was staring at me and a thought popped into my head, "Do you remember when we got married, and we were cutting the cake and you told me not to stuff cake in your face but I did it anyways?" I watched as she nodded and started chuckling.

She looked at me and smiled, "and do you remember when we threw the bouquet and the woman who caught it went crazy?" she laughed.

I smiled, "Yes and she scared the crap out of me," she started laughing harder and I watched her in amazement.

She smiled at me and I couldn't help but smile back. I picked up a piece of cheese and looked at her, "Want some more?" I extended my arm out to her mouth.

She smiled and opened her mouth. I smiled at her and watched as she took a sip of water. After she was done, she grabbed a piece of cheese and reached over to me and smiled, "Open," I smiled and opened my mouth.

I picked up another piece and put it in her mouth. She started chuckling and I looked at her, "What?"

She covered her mouth and looked at me, "That was a big piece,"

I chuckled, "I saw that. I was wondering if I should shove it down your throat or cut it into smaller pieces," I watched as she started laughing.

After her laughter died down, she looked at me. She didn't say anything as she was staring at me and I couldn't help but wonder what was going on through her head.

She started moving everything out of the way and I watched her in confusion as she crawled over to me and gently pushed me back on the floor. I looked up at her as she was hovering over me and she ran her hand through my hair while staring at me.

She leaned down and kissed me but the only thing I felt was the butterflies in my stomach when our lips connected. I felt her hand up against my cheek as the kiss deepened and I grabbed her waist.

She pulled back and slowly started pulling my sling off of my arm. I watched her as she put it out of the way. She connected our lips again then started kissing down my neck. She pulled back again and told me to lean up. I did and she pulled my shirt off slowly.

I laid back down and she leaned down and kissed my shoulder. I breathed in as her breath tickled my skin. It was amazing how she could leave me breathless with every touch.

Somewhere in the midst of it all, our clothes were scattered on the floor and it was just us laying there sharing body heat. We took it slow and gentle, and it couldn't have been the best love I've ever made.

I knew that I was not going to fuck anything else up because I needed this. I needed this woman more than I needed the air in my lungs. I needed her like the sun needed the moon to come out at night once it left for the day.

I will continue to show her love throughout the rest of our lives and I was not about to mess this up.
