Since I did a chapter on my drafts, I decided to make a tag dedicated specifically to some of my old OCs. This includes how they were when I first wrote them and how they'd be if I wrote them now.
Sadly, the OCs here come from stories I will never pick up again. However, I wanted to give them the appreciation they deserve, so I've made a board on my Pinterest dedicated to them. This was with the permission of Iydiamartin since they came up with the idea for the board first!

HOW AVERY WAS ORIGINALLY:
Avery is a daughter of Apollo. Unlike her other half-siblings — most notably, Will Solace, aka the counselor for their cabin — she isn't remarkable at anything. She's mediocre at medicine, can hit a decent amount of targets in archery practice, and has a horrible singing voice. Don't even get her started on her poetry. She's always felt like an outsider among her fellow demigods— a laughing stock, even. Maybe there had been a mistake and Apollo claimed her on accident.
Avery isn't a model demigod by any means. So when she's chosen to go on a quest with newcomers Jason Grace, Piper McLean, and Leo Valdez, everyone is confused. Including Avery herself.
HOW I IMAGINE AVERY NOW:
Avery is still average at everything else her cabin is known for, but she can hold her own with a bow (and would get stronger with it as the series went on), but she's hiding a big secret that only she, Chiron, and Will know about. When she sings, her voice emits the same effect of a siren. Chiron had made her keep it a secret when she arrived at Camp Half-Blood. Will only knows for safety reasons. Avery hides her gift, curse, whatever you want to call it, under the excuse that her singing voice is just so bad that nobody wants to hear it. So she stays silent at every campfire, birthday party, and jam fest with her half-siblings.
So yeah, Avery kind of hates her dad. Why are all of her siblings so amazing, while all she can do is bring danger with her voice? Deadly danger, as evident by the fact that she'd accidentally lured her best friend and neighbor into a pool at the age of four, where he'd drowned. Will assures her that she'll get better at everything with time, but Avery isn't so sure.
Then the camp's oracle reveals a prophecy she's pretty sure she's a part of. But why her? That's certainly what everyone else is wondering as well. She can tell that nobody thinks she's capable of saving the world like Percy Jackson had.
Avery has her own doubts about herself, but she becomes determined to prove herself as a worthy demigod.
NOTES:
I cannot believe I used Acacia Brinley, the early 2010's iconic Tumblr girl, as Avery's original faceclaim, but here we are.
This book was the first of what would have been a series had it not been accidentally deleted. The first book would have centered around Avery in The Lost Hero. Since book two took place in Camp Jupiter, I created another OC.
Originally, Avery's stepdad had an adopted son named Zach. I changed it to their moms being married instead. The kicker is that both moms are keeping their child's demigod status a secret, and since the step-siblings go to different camps, they have no idea. So Avery and Zach meet up at the end of The Son of Neptune like :o

HOW AUTUMN WAS ORIGINALLY:
If you've seen the YouTube video I made a few years ago of me reading WTC (and poorly acting it out), then you know how Autumn was. She wasn't my first OC ever, but she was the first one I wrote on Wattpad. And her personality really depended on whatever needed to happen tbh. Her father was Pitch Black and her mother was abusive, but she believed in Jack Frost as a kid and had grown up with him as her best friend. She was also bullied by the Easter Bunny as a kid LMFAOO. I think it was because he knew who her father was.
HOW I IMAGINE AUTUMN NOW:
I would keep her tragic backstory but make it make actual sense. Her trauma would be handled properly and she would have a concrete personality. Since she grew up isolated and is afraid to develop close relationships due to her mother not wanting her, she doesn't have other friends other than Jack. She can come across as standoffish, but it's only in an attempt to protect herself. Autumn begins to open up once she meets the rest of the Guardians, who teach her how to allow people to care for her.
NOTES:
Honestly I think Autumn's powers were pretty cool. (Spoiler alert) at the end of WTC, she sacrifices herself for Jack and becomes an immortal with autumn-related powers (flames, heat, light, etc) but not a Guardian.

HOW BRENT WAS ORIGINALLY:
Brent's backstory is actually the blueprint for an upcoming character of mine, which you'll see eventually. Brent is a foster child— one of many in Riverdale. He'd moved here two years ago and doesn't see a way out except for aging out of the system. His dreams of being adopted were crushed long ago, so now he just waits, watching the world pass by, tucked into himself.
The town of Riverdale isn't the most exciting place known to man. Brent has had multiple run-ins with the law in an attempt to seek greater thrills, and his foster mother has warned him that one more strike will have him packing his bags to be sent off to another home. In spite of his promise to himself to not become attached to this crappy town, he kind of has. So, to appease his foster parents, he takes a break to rest near Sweetwater River on the Fourth of July.
Then Jason Blossom is killed and his sister Cheryl had seen him lurking near the riverbank. Just when he'd been trying to make an improvement, he becomes a murder suspect.
HOW I IMAGINE BRENT NOW:
Literally nothing changes but I wrote this back when Riverdale had just premiered and was actually good. Then it went into the dumps and now this plot is up in my shop!

HOW CUPID WAS ORIGINALLY:
Cupid's backstory isn't very concrete. Nobody knows how he died, nor is it ever questioned. He mainly serves the purposes of comedic relief and some romantic tension between Autumn and Jack. Though Jack constantly assumes he knows the best option for Autumn because of their history, Cupid often offers new perspectives.
Cupid, also called "Coop" by some of the characters, is like the traditional depiction of his namesake in the sense that he has wings, a bow and arrow, and deals with love. However, the arrows can be insanely deadly and he has the personality of a preening peacock, which makes people reluctant to handle him.
HOW I IMAGINE CUPID NOW:
How about a little tragic backstory for some ✨spice✨? All of the immortals/Guardians were made so because they died saving someone. In Cupid's case, he died in Ancient Greece while protecting his lover. Having died for love, he became the icon for it, tasked with trekking across the globe to set people on the path to romantic or platonic affection. But he'd never find it himself.
Cupid is also hella pansexual. Like, a RAGING gay. He keeps his snarky and sarcastic personality, but he's also deeply caring. Though he may seem envious of Jack and Autumn's relationship as things turn romantic between them, it's merely because it's something he'll never be able to experience again.
The end would clarify that Cupid finds happiness by surrounding himself with platonic love— his newfound friends who bring a sense of fullness to his life.

An ongoing gag in the book was Cupid's nicknames for Jack that he used to annoy him. Here they are in all of their glory:

HOW DAVID WAS ORIGINALLY:
Traumatized after an accident that killed his best friend, David is struggling to return to normal. It's been a year and everyone around him seems to have moved on. His friends, Hunter and Olivia, have gone back to bring their chatty, outgoing selves once more. His teachers have stopped expressing concern when he misses deadlines or spaces out in class. Why is he struggling to move as the world continues to spin around him?
In an effort to answer this question, David starts writing letters to his dead best friend about his everyday life. He opens up about the struggles that nobody else seems to notice and pours his heart out in a way he hasn't in a year. The letters help— and so does the arrival of a new girl, Sage Talton.
Sage shares David's dorky love of words and adds a spark to his dull life that has him enjoying it for the first time since the accident. Eventually, she teaches him healing and adventure.
HOW I IMAGINE DAVID NOW:
If you remember my drafts tag, I mentioned how pretentious I found David when I re-read this story recently. I wanted him to shut up so badly. All he ever did was complain about how nobody understands him because he uses Big Word >:(
First of all, David needs professional help. A random 17-year-old girl isn't going to heal him. Sure, some things she does can help, but his level of trauma isn't going to go away without therapy.
David still loves writing and words, but he doesn't highlight how confused everyone around him gets when he uses large words. Instead, it's highlighted as another thing blocking David from getting the help he needs and from communicating his needs. The stitch is that, even though he's a writer and notoriously good with words, he can't seem to ask for help.
Basically, homeboy is SAADDD.

HOW HEIDE WAS ORIGINALLY:
Heide Reese is a lawyer with an occasional side hustle that involves helping the Avengers. Since her abilities allow her to tamper with anything electrical, one of her favorite pastimes is breaking into the Avengers Compound or pulling other pranks on her super-powered friends.
Heide is asked to come in and review the Sokovia Accords before the team signs them. All Tony expects her to do is skim through them, support the decision that they should be signed, and crack a joke or two about the tension in the room. But when Heide shows up, she doesn't give Tony the answer he wants. She warns him of pork barreling— basically how there's no way 117 countries wrote, drafted, and approved the Accords in a week, so why are they given three days to sign hundreds of papers? Why not give them more time to think it over and read through the fine print?
Heide is thrown into the middle of a civil war amongst the Avengers and becomes more involved with their missions than she ever has. Being a lawyer means she's familiar with the law, but she never thought she'd have to run from it.
HOW I IMAGINE HEIDE NOW:
She's a queen who doesn't need any fixing✨😌

Heide is also a raging pansexual. And YES I know Zoe is already in the MCU but Heide was created way before the Guardians met the Avengers, and I'm not changing the faceclaim now because I think she's perfect for Heide.

HOW JADE WAS ORIGINALLY:
She's Lydia's cousin, but was bitten by Derek in season 2 because she wanted to be in his pack. It resulted in rejection fluid that almost killed her. However, she survived, gaining telekinetic, magical powers involving blue energy.
Jade is horribly affected by Allison's death and suffers from severe PTSD. The hunters had only made it worse. She's ready for a stress-free senior year, but a familiar face carrying the name Theo Raeken comes into town, and everything is turned upside down.
Jade doesn't know who to trust. At the worst possible moments, everyone is turning on each other, splitting their close-knit pack in two. Through it all, she finds herself becoming closer and closer to Theo, unwittingly sinking further into his trap.
Season 5B involves her total destruction. The Dread Doctors experiment on her so intensely that she becomes unrecognizable, possessing dark magic and a complete lack of human empathy. She's a shell of her former self.
And by the time that the McCall pack realizes that this is what Theo wanted all along, it's already too late to undo the damage done to Jade.
HOW I IMAGINE JADE NOW:
Honestly, not much would change except for the way I handled her PTSD. I also mentioned this in my drafts tag, but it came across as almost a guessing game instead of just outright saying it was PTSD. That's why, now, I'm very careful to give my characters a clear diagnosis and not shy away from the terms.
Another change would be Jade's dark path. It would truly take a nasty turn, but unlike the case with the nogitsune where it wasn't Stiles doing those things, this time it actually is Jade, leaving her pack conflicted about how to handle her.

Unfortunately, they don't benefit herself. Her abilities involve amplifying others' powers, but when placed into the wrong hands, they can be catastrophic.
Naomi's best friend, Jessica Jones, stops by the diner where she works to inform her of the worst: a psychotic murderer with mind-control powers who had nearly ruined Jessica's life is back for blood. Jessica doesn't have much that she cares about, but Naomi is one of those people. She begs her to flee so Kilgrave can't get his hands on her. If he did, he'd be virtually unstoppable.
Naomi refuses. She's never been one to run, and Jessica had spent years teaching her about mind control resistance. She's not going to let her friend go through this alone. So they walk, arm in arm, into the gaping maw of bloodshed to take down Kilgrave once and for all.
HOW I IMAGINE NAOMI NOW:
Gay. Gay gay gay gay GAAYYY. Jessica and Naomi eventually become girlfriends because yes. Just yes. Also, Naomi is granted a small portion of a person's abilities when they are using her amplification powers. For example, if Jessica were using them, Naomi would get a bit of her super strength.

HOW ROWAN WAS ORIGINALLY:
Rowan is the star soccer player at West Ham High School. Ever since her parents died when she was in elementary school, her older brother has pushed her to become the best of the best so she can make something of herself.
Rowan loves sports — she really does — but doesn't know if she wants to do them for the rest of her life, or even into college. Not that her brother will hear any of that. She's supposed to be signing for a college soccer team in a week, and her gut is twisting with doubt. Her brother is banking on this scholarship so it can ease the financial burden of higher education. How is she supposed to tell him that she doesn't want it?
It seems that the gods have heard her prayers. A school trip gone wrong lands her and a portion of her high school peers in a completely vacant, closed-off version of West Ham. There are no adults. No children. Nobody outside of the people on the school buses.
Rowan sees this as an opportunity to let loose and experiment. She'd never been given a chance to discover what she really likes. Her entire life had been sports, honors classes, and clubs that left her schedule packed. She never had time to attend parties or spend an entire weekend doing absolutely nothing.
A little party never killed anyone. What's the worst that could happen?

HOW WES WAS ORIGINALLY:
Wesley is jealous of his best friend's success. He may as well get that out of the way right off the bat. He tries to put on a happy face and show support when Rowan wins yet another soccer tournament or an award for academic honors, but inside, he's envious. Enraged that no matter how hard he throws himself into track or school, he never crosses the threshold above "average".
Rowan is about to sign a contract for a college sports scholarship out of state. She doesn't want it, but she's doing it for her brother. Meanwhile, Wes is trapped in West Ham at the local community college because it's all his parents can afford. He didn't get any scholarships.
Just as the tension between them rises to its boiling point, they get stuck in some parallel universe without any adults, and Rowan goes crazy. Wes watches as she throws herself into doing as much as possible as quickly as she can because they don't know when they'll return home. And it's almost killing her.
When their group begins turning on one another and sticking together becomes vital for survival, Wes realizes he's going to have to put his jealousy behind him. But how can he do that if it's all he's ever known?

HOW ZACH WAS ORIGINALLY:
Think Percy Jackson 2.0. Since he's adopted, Zach is a son of Jupiter (🙄) and one of two in Camp Jupiter. He's powerful but clumsy, and his inability to take anything seriously has almost cost him his head multiple times.
A boy his age with the most terrible case of amnesia he's ever seen arrives at the camp's threshold. He's carrying an old lady, which isn't the weirdest thing he's seen that day, but then the old lady turns out to be Juno, the wife of Zach's dad, and that also isn't the weirdest thing he's seen that day.
What is strange is the existence of a prophecy that Zach is apparently a part of. If it were up to the camp's Praetor, Reyna, Zach would never leave camp so he wouldn't trip over his own two feet and electrocute someone. But it's kind of hard to mess with an oracle.
HOW I IMAGINE ZACH NOW:
Apparently, in the original plans for this story, I mentioned that Zach's name was ZACH and NOT short for Zachary. This time, I said, "screw that wtf" and made it short for Zachary. Also the funniest thing was the blurb I wrote where Zach told Hazel they could trust the random boy running toward them with an old lady in his arms because Zach picked up on his awesome vibes.
Now, Zach is a son of Mars, the Roman equivalent of Ares, the god of war. He's exceptionally skilled in combat, but still has a tendency to be clumsy, which isn't the greatest when sparring with his half siblings. He basically has the skater boy vibes of every teenage boy in 2011-2012 and has the skateboard to match.
