A Jilted Puppet

Camila was getting ready for Davenport's funeral in her room.

Well, actually, she had been struggling with her clothes for almost twenty minutes.

She stopped for a moment to stare out her window, it was snowing today.

Paul was already dressed, he sat on her bed, looking exhausted.

"Cami, can you please pick a dress so we can go already?"

"Stop bugging me!"

He rolled his eyes.

"Are you okay, though?"

"I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Must be the stress." She lied, as she tied her hair. "The Slayer has killed two cops, nobody's safe anymore."

She put on her dress and turned around, hoping to change the subject.
"Does this dress make me look fat?"

"Are you kidding?"

Camila felt heat rushing up her cheeks as Paul's brown eyes stared at her in adoration.

"You look absolutely perfect."

***************************
Julian was pacing around his room. He felt frustrated, he felt fooled and betrayed.

"Forget about Camila! You're never gonna get her back!"

How did he end up working for such a monster?

Clarke had offered him money and more importantly, Camila's love if he came back to DreVille County to help and he had been stupid enough to happily accept.

Julian was so blinded by the deal that he never even bothered to ask how Clarke would fix his relationship.

Son of a bitch, He's been playing me this whole time. All this time, I've just been his puppet.

He clenched his jaw and balled his fists, filled with anger.

Clarke had used him, he had to make him pay. But how?

He sat down and racked his brain, then it hit him.

He opened his laptop and pulled up the Internet Tip Line website.

STARK'S
Alex, Izzy, Macy and Kai were gathered at the diner, waiting for Giovani.

They were all dressed and ready for the service.

Kai hung up his phone.

"Ok, Paul is with Camila. They'll go on their own."

"I feel bad I used to think he was an asshole. In the end, I guess he was kind of a hero." said Izzy.

"And we will always be grateful for that." said Kai. He turned to Macy. "How's your baby?"

She beamed.
"Fine. I can't wait to have my baby in my arms. Larry's baby."

An audible gasp came from the door.

Lara Brighton stared straight at Macy.

"You're pregnant?"

"Answer me. Are you really pregnant with Larry's' child?"

Macy didn't move.
"Mrs Brighton, what are you doing here?"

"Does it matter?" said Kai, looking at Lara.
"She said she was leaving anyway."

Lara fixed a stare on him.

"Would it fucking kill you to respect me? I used to change your diaper!"

Kai felt his face heat up and he cursed himself for speaking.

Due to the intense atmosphere, he was safe from instant humiliation, but he knew his friends would never let him hear the end of this.

Camila herself had stored the information in her head to tease him later.

Having finished off the aspiring doctor, she turned back to Macy, her voice much softer.

"I just want to know."

"With what right?" said Izzy. "You didn't even show up to Larry's funeral!?"

"Hey, cool off, Izzy. Give her a break." said Alex. "I'm sure Larry wouldn't want us attacking his mother like this."

That was enough to make them feel bad.

"Thank you, Alex."

"But that doesn't mean we're thrilled to see you."
He continued.
"I felt pity for you when you came the other night, but that doesn't change the fact that we're still mad about you and Mr Brighton leaving him on his own."

"You don't know how sorry I am—"

"Save it." said Macy. "I don't need it. We don't need it. Not today."

Before Lara could answer, the door opened and Giovani walked in.

"Kids, are you ready for....."
He froze when he saw Larry's mother standing there.

"Lara? What's going on here?"

"Nothing important." said Macy, standing up. Alex, Izzy and Kai got out.

Macy stopped at the door and turned around.
"By the way, yes, I am expecting Larry's' child." She walked out.

Giovani remained silent. He took one last look at Lara, shook his head and followed the kids.

CHURCH
Paul and Camila met Francisco Glavas outside the church.

While Camila entered to meet Sara inside, Francis and Paul stayed outside to have a talk.

"Well? Did she tell you?" asked Francis expectantly.

Paul sighed.

"Nothing. She just made up some lie about being stressed out."

Francis called Paul on the day of the explosion, asking him to find out what Camila was hiding from him when she came back from Stark's.

Francis sighed in defeat. "Dammit, I was really hoping she'd open up at least to you."

Paul shrugged.
"It's probably nothing. Why does it bother you so much?"

"She's my daughter, ok? I know her better than anyone. Whatever happened after I left her at Stark's made her very upset."

"What do you think could have happened?"

"Hey, guys!" Alex approached, followed by Kai, Izzy, Macy and Giovani.

"What are you doing outside? It's pretty cold, I mean, look at all the snow."
He stuck his hands into his coat to warm it up.

"Where's Camila?" asked Izzy.

"Inside, with Sara." replied Paul.

"We better get in there."

"Yeah, we should." said Macy.
Giovani led Alex and the girls into the church.

Francis looked at Kai.
"Did Camila say anything to you by any chance?"

"Anything about what?"

"Camila's been acting weird. Something is bothering her." He explained. "But she won't tell us what it is."

"Maybe Julian?" Kai suggested. "He's always finding ways to piss her off."

"Someone said my name?"
said Julian, as he approached them with his trademark smirk on his face.
*****************************
It was quiet and dark inside the church.

Only the candles gave some light to the room.

Relatives, officers and friends had gathered for Davenport's funeral.

His coffin had been covered by an USA flag, and a priest was blessing it.

Camila sat next to Sara.

"Hi, I'm so glad you came." she greeted. "Where are the others?"

"On their way."

"Okay. So, how are you?"

"Me? Good, good." said Camila. "How did the autopsy go?"

Sara sighed. "Good. I didn't think it was necessary though, the knife was gone, but Davenport was obviously stabbed from the b—"

Camila cringed.
"Sara, please, no gory details."

"I'm sorry."

"Hey girls." Izzy pipped.

"Oh, hi dear." replied Sara.

They moved to make space so Izzy, Macy, Alex and Giovani could sit in the same pew with them.

Giovani looked at the door when he heard it open, thinking it was Francis, Paul or Kai.

It wasn't.

Instead, he saw Daniel Clarke.

"What the hell?" he mumbled. He got up and approached him. "What the hell are you doing here, Clarke?"

"I'm here to pay my respects to a hero, of course."
replied Clarke with a grin.

Giovani chuckled.
"Oh, come on, Clarke. No one believes you."

"It's true." said Clarke. "I got up this morning and asked myself why not go to the funeral of the cop who had me locked up?"

*****************************

"Wow, speak of the Devil and he will appear." said Paul, mockingly.

"Thank you!" replied Julian, grinning even more.

Kai crossed his arms.
"What do you want, Julian? It's not like we welcome you anytime you bump into us. And don't think for a second we'll let you anywhere near Camila."

Julian chuckled.
"That's not why I'm here. And I'm not here for the dead cop either. I'm here to perform an exorcism."

Francis blinked.
"I'm sorry, what?"

Julian noticed a sleek black car approaching the church.

He smirked.

Showtime.

"You see, the real devil has just entered this church and it's my duty to get him out."

He swaggered his way to the entrance, followed by the three confused men.

****************************

Before Giovani could reply, Julian walked in triumphantly.

"Excuse me everyone, I need your attention please! You're about to witness an exorcism here live and direct."

Everyone started to murmur while staring at Julian.

"Norman, what the hell are you doing?" muttered Clarke.

Two poker-faced men in suits walked into the chapel, looking around trying to find someone, they locked eyes with Clarke and approached him.

The priest stormed up to Julian.

"Sacrilege! You can't just come here and interrupt a servi—"

"Relax, old man." said Julian, rolling his eyes at the red-faced priest.
"I'm almost done here."

"Mr Daniel Clarke?"
The men in suits pulled out their badges.

"FBI. You're under arrest for the illegal possession of 1500 kilos of cocaine with intent to distribute. Anything you say can and will be used against you—"

Clarke was incensed.
"You can't just arrest me, what proof—"

"We got an anonymous tip that the precious cargo was stashed in your basement, our colleagues are already done with the extraction."

Clarke looked at Julian.

No, He wouldn't....

"Great idea with the noodles though, had me fooled."

Julian smirked.

He did!

"You idiot!"
Clarke yelled at a smirking Julian as the agents grabbed him and pulled him away without saying another word.

"I swear you'll regret this. I swear I'll make you pay!"

He continued yelling obscenities as the agents led him out.

Julian sighed happily, and turned to the stunned priest.
"Now I'm done."

He blew a kiss at Camila, who rolled her eyes in response, and confidently left church.

As he stepped out, his eyes locked with Clarke's.

The shady businessman shot him an ominous look from the backseat of the sleek black car which was being driven by the agents in front.

Julian's confidence disappeared instantly.

He prayed Daniel Clarke wouldn't find a way to worm himself out of this one.

Because that would mean certain death.
