I lay on the bed the burner phone placed on the bedside table as I stared up at the ceiling. I don't know how long I'd been lying there with my thoughts reeling. Seconds, minutes, hours? I let out a shaky breath and covered my fave with my hands.
A knock on the door frightened me.
"Can I come in?" A voice called out, it was Steve.
"Uh yeah" I called out.
I quickly wiped away the tears and sat up as Steve entered.
"Are you alright?" He asked softly.
"Yeah, I'm ok" I replied offering Steve a small smile.
Steve let out a small sigh and came to sit besides me, the bed dipping slightly underneath his weight.
"I feel bad, for leaving Peter my Aunt May" I said.
"I'm sorry" Steve apologized.
"It's not your fault" I said shaking my head.
"I just- I feel bad for leaving Peter. He's lost... we've both lost so many people and now he's lost me" I said.
I'm probably saying too much, but I don't care. Steve's been through alot he won't judge. I know he'll get it, I feel like I can tell him anything.
Steve reached over and took my hand in his holding it gently.
"You know when I woke up out of the ice, I felt like I had abandoned everyone. Left everyone behind, abandoned them, I always felt guilty but then I realized that there was nothing that I could do. I couldn't go back I just had to move on" Steve said.
"But in my case and in yours, you can't move on. As soon as I found out Bucky was still alive it was like I was back in the 40s and I just did everything to bring him back. I thought I lost Bucky but I got him back, you'll get Peter back ok I promise" Steve assured me.
"After our parents died I always felt like I had to protect Peter. It's stupid but I just feel like it's my job to be there for him ya know" I said looking down at our intertwined hands.
"It makes sense, I mean Bucky and I were always like brothers. When I was all ya know small" Steve said with a chuckle.
"He always felt like he needed to protect me" Steve said, he smiled nostalgia washing over him.
"Now you're the one protecting him" I said.
Steve chuckled and gave me a nod.
"Exactly, Peter will be ok" Steve said softly.
He rubbed his thumb along my palm.
"Yeah I'm sure he'll be ok, Im still a bit worried about him" I sighed.
I rested my head against Steve's shoulder.
"That just shows you care Y/n" Steve said softly.
We stayed quiet for a few minutes, as we stared out the window at the Wakandan city skyline. It really was beautiful and peaceful and almost made me forget about all the stuff going on for at least a bit anyways.
"Do you ever miss the 40s?" I asked.
The question seemed to slip out.
"I'm sorry I-" I apologized.
"Y/n it's fine" Steve said shaking his head chuckling a little.
I lifted my head up off of Steve's shoulder, he looked down at the floor and ran his fingers through his hair.
"Sometimes I think what I'd would be like if I didn't crash the plane" Steve said.
"Even though I miss the 40s ya know the internet is great" Steve chuckled.
"It is pretty good" I joked.
"I love that what's it called the youtube" Steve said.
I let out a laugh and shook my head.
"Hey c'mon" Steve rolled his eyes.
"No no it's cute Steve don't worry" I chuckled.
I saw a brush creep onto Steve's face as he gave me a small smile I could feel my own cheeks burn as butterflies invaded my stoumach a feeling which I hadn't had in forever.
"It's just YouTube not the YouTube" I nudged him.
"Ok, ok but I bet I know much more about the 40s then you do" He laughed.
"Well obviously grandpa" I joked.
Steve shook his head and rolled his eyes at me.
"Grandpa?" He questioned.
"Your what like 90 years old" I teased.
"Don't you think I look pretty good for a 90 year old" Steve joked.
"Oh don't worry you look great" I said a slight smirk crept onto my face.

Bit of a filler chapter here but I hope you like it so far I will be obviously focusing more directly on Steve and Y/n relationship in the later chapters this was just build up but I do really hope you enjoy this book ((:
