Chapter 1041: I Haven’t Divorced That B*stard Yet!

Heisen smiled, not saying anything.

“If someone makes something similar to what you’ve invented, does it mean that they’ve plagiarized?” Bai Xiaonian wore a helpless expression. “Are you not going to give others a route out? If this is the case, then, Heisen, tell me, what other inventions that haven’t been completed, which our country is preparing to steal from the United States? Or what technologies will there be? Let me prepare mentally…”

The audience broke out laughing.

How was China supposed to steal things that the United States had yet to come up with? The person who said this didn’t even find it embarrassing?

This time around, even Heisen couldn’t help but clap for Bai Xiaonian.

Bai Xiaonian’s phone was in silent mode, so she hadn’t managed to pick up Lin Nuan’s calls the previous few times. Her phone slid out of her trousers, landing on the sofa. Bai Xiaonian picked it up and was about to put it back into her pocket amidst the audience’s applause when she saw that it was a WeChat message from Lin Nuan. Bai Xiaonian smiled, put away her phone, pushed back her hair, and said to the host Heisen…

“While we were chatting about this spy, I received news from China that the son of the ambassador from the United States Embassy was apprehended in our country…”

Heisen was stunned. “What is the reason for the arrest?”

Bai Xiaonian shrugged and pouted. “It’s probably the same crime as what the United States apprehended the Kaide Corporation’s president for!”

Heisen was stunned. The director’s voice rang out from his earpiece, verifying that this news was true!

Heisen would never have expected that Bai Xiaonian’s country would be so decisive in their action this time around. After a short moment, he asked a sharp question, “So, the reason your country took such a great action this time around is due to the turbine being developed successfully, because they now have confidence?”

Bai Xiaonian smiled at Heisen and nodded. “Of course!”

Bai Xiaonian analyzed China’s newly developed bomber, the Heavenly Eye, from the essential level. Its flight ability was basically the same as that of the United States’ current strongest bomber, the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. Despite this, it was also equipped with missiles.

Heisen then said that it was going through a test flight and hadn’t been officially manufactured. They’d be at a disadvantage if they were to get into an actual fight against the United States.

Bai Xiaonian sat there, analyzing the current international trends with Heisen seriously.

The United States had acted with great dominance for many years, creating stirs across the world. They would beat up people who didn’t listen to them, and even now, their troops were still in a tussle against a few countries.

However, the two countries in disagreement right now were both countries with nuclear power. Who would be afraid to take on the fight?

If the two countries were to fight each other, Russia would be elated. With both parties suffering casualties, Russia would be able to take over the United States’ current status of being the leader in the world.

Bai Xiaonian said that their country wasn’t a leader anyway and wasn’t interested in being one. However, would the United States be willing to part with this title?

Bai Xiaonian also said that if they were to go to war, the United States’ arms dealers would be thrilled, but she had no idea how the taxpayers would view this. She was also very curious to find out how many times the United States’ government was going to declare bankruptcy.

At the end of the show, Heisen asked if Bai Xiaonian would participate in the news conference that the United States was going to hold the next day. Bai Xiaonian nodded and said that she’d definitely be going.

Heisen was greatly anticipating Bai Xiaonian calling out at the speaker. He asked her what questions she was going to ask. The United States’ government probably also wanted to know. Bai Xiaonian was too tricky, and the questions she asked would always make one speechless. There was once when she had really rendered the United States’ spokesperson speechless.

Regardless of whether it was the spokesperson for the White House or for the United States Department of State, all of them would subconsciously make a prayer before they had the courage to get on the stage after hearing Bai Xiaonian’s name.

What Bai Xiaonian had said on the show today was actually her utmost effort to hype up the situation, forcing the United States’ government to release Lu Jinnan.

After leaving the show, Bai Xiaonian felt both physically and mentally exhausted. She didn’t even have the energy to return Lin Nuan’s call.

This matter concerned the person she loved deeply, and Bai Xiaonian couldn’t help but feel anxious. She had to exert a lot of brainpower when she spoke as well.

The show was a live broadcast, and Bai Xiaonian’s words moved many people. There were already Chinese citizens who were in the United States, forming groups and putting up a demonstration, requesting that Lu Jinnan be released. After that, many Americans took part in the protest as well.

On the way back, Bai Xiaonian felt warm inside when she saw her fellow countrymen raising signs and holding a demonstration.

She knew that there’d be a tough battle tomorrow.

At the thought of Lu Jinnan, Bai Xiaonian was once again invigorated. She let out a long breath and raised her own spirits. This wasn’t a time for her to feel mentally exhausted. Lu Jinnan’s current situation was still unknown, and they needed to get him out first.

Bai Xiaonian took out her phone to make a call. She utilized the connections she had built up after coming to the United States to find out news about Lu Jinnan and think up measures to deal with the situation tomorrow.

Bai Xiaonian was afraid that Lu Jinnan would be convicted of the crime of being a spy. If that happened, it wouldn’t be easy to deal with the situation…

Lu Jinnan wasn’t a staff member of the embassy, and he didn’t enjoy any diplomatic immunity. If he were to be charged with this crime, and the United States came out with some kind of “evidence,” they’d even be able to execute Lu Jinnan.

Fortunately, the son of the United States Embassy’s ambassador had also been apprehended!

Bai Xiaonian felt that the likely end result might be a deal to trade the two captured men.

It was just that Bai Xiaonian’s heart would start to ache at the thought that Lu Jinnan might be suffering hardships inside.

After going back, Bai Xiaonian gulped down a few cups of coffee, then gave Lin Nuan a call to tell her not to worry. She had people protecting her, and there wouldn’t be any trouble.

“Don’t worry! I won’t let anything happen to Lu Jinnan!” Bai Xiaonian held onto her coffee cup tightly. “I haven’t divorced that b*stard yet!”

Knowing that what Bai Xiaonian said was just out of spite, Lin Nuan didn’t take it seriously. She only told Bai Xiaonian not to push herself too much. Fu Huai’an was already on his way to the United States, and he’d definitely save Lu Jinnan.

After hanging up the call, Bai Xiaonian didn’t waste any time and went to read up on diplomatic immunity. She wanted to find a term that might be applicable to Lu Jinnan.

Bai Xiaonian didn’t sleep for the entire night, and by the time she looked up from the documents and books, the sun had already risen.

Bai Xiaonian rubbed her sore neck and took a look at the time. She hadn’t expected it to already be 7:40 am!

Seeing that she was almost going to be late, Bai Xiaonian washed her face, put on light makeup to show respect, and then headed out with a pile of documents without even having her breakfast.

Even though Bai Xiaonian felt that all the effort she put in might not achieve the result she wanted with her status as a reporter, she had no other way out this time around. For Lu Jinnan’s sake, she had to give it everything she had.

After Lu Jinnan got into trouble, Lin Nuan hadn’t been able to sleep well. After Fu Huai’an arrived in the United States, he was afraid that he’d disturb Lin Nuan’s rest and thus only sent her a message to say that he had arrived safely.

After Lin Nuan saw the message, she told Fu Huai’an that Liang Mulan would be coming over to take care of her and Tuan Tuan. She told him not to worry about the things at home and didn’t say much of anything else.

Chapter 1042: Really Whetted One’s Appetite

When Liang Mulan came, she brought along many bags of stuff. She had spent the entirety of last night doing her homework, checking out what food was good for pregnant women. If she had those items at home, she would bring them from her home. Otherwise, she would buy them from the mall.

Last night, Lin Jingquan was so excited about Lin Nuan’s pregnancy that he wasn’t able to fall asleep. He recalled a box of walnuts that someone gave to them, so he peeled a can for Lin Nuan. He said eating more walnuts was beneficial to the baby and asked Liang Mulan to take them to Lin Nuan the next day.

It wasn’t easy for Lin Ran to finally have a rest day, but Liang Mulan dragged her along to the mall to do some shopping. After filling up the trunks of two cars, the driver took Liang Mulan, whilst Lin Ran drove her own car, both heading towards the Fu residence.

Lin Ran recalled that she had promised Lin Nuan before Ji Yun’s tombstone that she would repay Lin Nuan whatever she owed Ji Yun. Hence, even if she had to sacrifice her rest time and follow Liang Mulan around, Lin Ran didn’t have any complaints whatsoever.

When Liang Mulan arrived, it was already after ten. Song Yao was still sleeping, and Lin Nuan and Tuan Tuan were sitting before the dining room table eating the breakfast that Cen Mo prepared.

As Lin Nuan and Song Yao proceeded in their pregnancies, their pregnancy symptoms were becoming more apparent. Song Yao tended to sleep a lot now and wasn’t able to travel in a car, for the minute she did, she felt like puking.

As for Lin Nuan, she was constantly feeling nauseous, and her appetite wasn’t as good as Song Yao’s. This morning, when she was brushing her teeth, she couldn’t help but vomit. Because she hadn’t eaten anything that morning, all she vomited was bile, making her feel terrible.

Cen Mo’s heart ached upon seeing her in this state. He asked Lin Nuan what she would like to eat, and Lin Nuan said she had no appetite. Lin Nuan even said she had no appetite for the super yummy tomato egg noodles Cen Mo made last time.

Cen Mo thought about it, then made Lin Nuan some purple sweet potato porridge with fruits and mini sandwiches.

Cen Mo’s purple sweet potato porridge with fruits was unlike what others made. On the fragrant purple sweet potato porridge, white banana slices and strawberry slices were placed on top. Each slice of banana was brushed with a thin layer of honey, which made it less easily oxidized, and it looked really good with the way they glistened!

Between the banana and strawberry slices was a row of the nuts Lin Nuan usually liked to eat. On the nuts, yogurt was drizzled. The combination of colors was particularly pretty. The aroma from the strawberries, bananas, honey, and purple sweet potato really whetted one’s appetite.

Lin Nuan lowered her head and looked at the huge bowl before her, then scooped a bit and sent it to her lips, giving Cen Mo face.

The smell was sweet yet not sickening, and her gums were filled with the aroma of the purple sweet potato and pineapples. It was delightfully tasty.

“Mm! Delicious!” Lin Nuan couldn’t help flashing a thumbs up to Cen Mo. “I taste pineapples.”

Cen Mo smiled. He had used pineapple water to steam the purple sweet potatoes, so it would obviously have the fragrance of pineapples!

Cen Mo had put a great deal of effort into this meal for Lin Nuan.

The big bowl of purple sweet potato porridge was finished very quickly. Lin Nuan didn’t feel nauseous at all and had even finished all of Cen Mo’s mini sandwiches, giving Cen Mo face.

Tuan Tuan also got a bowl of purple sweet potato porridge. He paired it with his milk, and, of course, the hard-boiled egg that he ate without fail every day.

Cen Mo saw that Tuan Tuan was hugging his little bowl and licking it clean, his nose and fair face both purple, like a messy little kitten. He couldn’t resist smiling and drawing a tissue to help Tuan Tuan wipe his face.

“Delicious!” Tuan Tuan extended his thumb happily, hugging the bowl close to him. “Uncle, terrific!”

Uncle made really delicious food, more delicious than the chefs at home.

The minute Liang Mulan entered, she heard Tuan Tuan shouting delicious, so she asked, “What’s delicious?”

“Mom…”

Lin Nuan wasn’t surprised to hear that Liang Mulan was coming today. Cen Mo greeted Liang Mulan, who smiled and nodded. Knowing Song Yao was still sleeping, Liang Mulan pulled Lin Nuan to see the stuff she bought for her and Song Yao first.

In the living room, Liang Mulan took out two sets of anti-radiation clothing and began introducing them to Lin Nuan. “The sales lady recommended this when I went to the shop with Xiao Ran. She said when one is early in their pregnancy, radiation is the greatest threat. Nowadays, youngsters can’t stay away from their phones. Phones have radiation, so you have to wear this!”

Lin Nuan had consulted Dr. Su Nian on this before. Dr. Su said that anti-radiation clothing basically didn’t work and was merely there to give them peace of mind. She said that back when she was pregnant, she too had worn it in order to have peace of mind.

Lin Nuan didn’t decline Liang Mulan’s kind intentions. After thanking her, she put it on right before Liang Mulan’s eyes.

“This one is for your sister-in-law! See if it’s right…” Liang Mulan then couldn’t help complaining. “I was told the best anti-radiation clothing right now is made of silver fiber fabric, but there are merely these few designs that are made of silver fiber fabric, none of which really looks good…”

Hearing Liang Mulan nagging Lin Nuan in the living room, Lin Ran couldn’t help smiling. She recalled that she was originally supposed to eat with Gu Shaoting that noon, so she thought of sending him a message.

She recalled that her phone was left in the car, so she went out to her car to retrieve her phone. When she came back, Cen Mo was standing under the roof… watching Tuan Tuan trying out the drone that Lin Jingquan asked Lin Nuan to bring back for Tuan Tuan yesterday.

Seeing Lin Ran come back, Cen Mo smiled at her with both hands in his pockets.

Lin Ran clutched onto her car keys. She felt some fear towards this biological brother of Lin Nuan. She smiled and said, “My mom is just naggy…”

Cen Mo’s smile widened. “She’s just concerned about Nuan Nuan and Song Yao!”

Lin Ran had initially planned on sharing a word or two with Cen Mo before entering, but just as she stepped onto the stairs, she heard Cen Mo say, “You are a magnanimous and kind girl!”

Lin Ran halted in her steps, then thought about it and said, standing next to Cen Mo, “Brother Cen Mo, I’m actually not magnanimous at all. Thinking back, I was really selfish in the past. You don’t know the things I did in the past. In this switching incident, I’m the innocent one, actually, so is Lin Nuan! Before I returned to the Lin family, I really felt that Lin Nuan had stolen my life, living the life of a rich missy that ought to have been mine! She could spend money extravagantly, and whatever she wanted, she could just ask for it!”

Cen Mo nodded. He thought the same too.

“But it’s not like that. After returning to the Lin family, it’s entirely different than I had imagined. I thought that after our identities were switched back, I would be able to say, buy a sports car today, go out to sea in our family’s yacht tomorrow if in a bad mood, and the day after, go to France with my good friends for a coffee if in a good mood!”

Lin Ran didn’t feel awkward saying this at all. Because after she sorted out her thinking, she felt there wasn’t anything she needed to hide from anyone…

She said to Cen Mo, “Brother told me that the Lin family’s kids’ allowance never dropped from the sky, but rather, they needed to obtain it with their labor. Only every year during Chinese New Year would they receive a slighter larger sum of money from their red packets. He and Lin Nuan were subject to this since young! I didn’t believe it… I even felt that the Lin family didn’t like me and was deliberately abusing me, wanting me to switch places with Lin Nuan again!”

Chapter 1043: I Regard That Child as a Younger Sister, Like Lin Nuan

When Lin Ran said this, her lips were curled up in a self-mocking fashion. “Then, when I kicked up a fuss at home, Brother would be really annoyed at me. He said other than the branded gowns that Liang Mulan would prepare for her when she attended functions, none of the clothes in her wardrobe cost more than 500RMB, mostly ranging from 100RMB to 200RMB! He asked me to look in her room if I didn’t believe him.”

Lin Nuan’s room had been left the way it was since Lin Nuan left the Lin family. Firstly, it was because Liang Mulan still hoped Lin Nuan would come back. Secondly, Lin Ran refused to stay in the room Lin Nuan used to live in out of spite.

“I was afraid that they might falsify things, so I went right away…” Lin Ran said, “I knew Lin Nuan only took a small piece of luggage with her when she left. When I went into her room, the clothes in her wardrobe were indeed cheap things. Even the skin care products she used were local brands, costing under 100RMB! Her bags were hung there as well. Other than the purse that she used when she attended functions, she didn’t own any other luxury goods.”

The Lin family had always educated their kids to be thrifty. It wasn’t that they were stingy with their kids, and it was fine if they wanted a luxury good, but they had to create an equivalent value in exchange for it.

Lin Jingquan had told Lin Nuan and Lin Chen when they were little that although they were well-to-do, they weren’t born to be parasites. The family would provide them with an excellent living environment and provide them all they needed growing up, but that didn’t include the luxury goods that they didn’t need as children.

Cen Mo nodded. The Lin family indeed taught their kids well. This was why Lin Nuan and Lin Chen turned out to be so outstanding.

“Later, after I got on better terms with Brother, he told me that Granny would ask Lin Nuan to wake up at 5 am every day. Since she was six, she had learned the things that girls from respectable families ought to learn in the morning. After breakfast, she had to go to school, and at noon, she had to nap. In the afternoon, after coming home to finish her homework, she would need to practice her musical instruments! Unless Lin Nuan was sick, she went through the same routine every single day.”

Lin Ran smiled at Cen Mo. “So, it isn’t that I’m magnanimous. I only feel that Lin Nuan didn’t live as well as I had imagined at the Lins. In the past, although I lacked material goods, at least my parents never interfered with how long I slept. To the extent of their capabilities, they would provide me with the best, spoiling me and indulging me. When I think of it this way, I feel more balanced…”

Although Lin Ran put it this way, Cen Mo still felt that Lin Ran had a magnanimous heart.

Cen Mo understood things differently from other people sometimes. After hearing Lin Ran say all this, he felt that Lin Ran was perhaps envious of the life she had just described. As he stood there watching Tuan Tuan, his thoughts went elsewhere…

Song Yao had woken up. Because she would ask to eat the tomato egg noodles Cen Mo made every morning, Cen Mo let Lin Ran take care of Tuan Tuan and went into the kitchen.

Before entering, Cen Mo instructed Saihand, “Help me do something, and it has to be fast…”

Saihand had thought it was some grave matter, so he nodded earnestly and listened.

“Go check out the most in-trend sports car, pick a color that suits girls, and send it to Lin Ran. Then check out yachts and private planes and send those to her as well.”

When Saihand heard this, he thought he was dreaming. After he managed to respond, he said to Cen Mo, looking like he was in a difficult position, “Sir… is it appropriate to be giving Miss Lin Ran all this?”

Saihand had let his thoughts run wild. He thought that Cen Mo had ulterior designs on Lin Ran.

“What do you mean by appropriate?”

“Miss Lin Ran is the child of Lin Nuan’s adoptive parents! Miss Lin Ran’s entire family knows that you’re married…”

“Mm, so?” Cen Mo looked perplexed. Perhaps he hadn’t anticipated Saihand to have such a fertile imagination.

So? Saihand turned back and glanced at Lin Ran, who was bending over on the lawn and taking the remote control from Tuan Tuan. “But… if you make Miss Lin Ran your girlfriend, how are you going to explain things to Ms. Lin Nuan’s adoptive parents?”

Cen Mo was rendered speechless.

“Saihand, you…” Cen Mo had initially wanted to ask Saihand if he left his brain elsewhere, but he swallowed those words back down. “I regard that child as a younger sister, like Lin Nuan. I’m merely fulfilling that child’s wish. Have you been too free these days and watched too much TV? What kind of nonsense is your head filled with!”

Saihand was rendered speechless.

Recently, under the recommendations of Lin Nuan’s makeup artist Mu Taotao, he had watched many TV dramas where there were third parties involved and which ended disastrously. Mu Taotao even enthusiastically discussed the storylines with him.

Other than Little Lu, Mu Taotao was the second person who was willing to be such close friends with him, so Saihand liked her very much as well. He very earnestly watched the TV dramas that his friend recommended to him so that he could discuss them with his friend every day.

But Saihand didn’t understand why Mu Taotao always got him to watch those third party dramas where the characters suffered a bad end! Had a third party interfered in Mu Taotao’s romance before?

Saihand was still pondering why his friend Mu Taotao had to watch such TV dramas when Cen Mo entered the kitchen and began preparing breakfast for Song Yao.

Liang Mulan pulled Song Yao’s hand and said, “Cen Mo suffered hardship when he was young, so he especially treasures the people around him. How many men are willing to cook for their wives and sisters? If this child is lacking in any way, Nuan Nuan, you and Song Yao need to be more tolerant of him.”

Liang Mulan’s heart ached whenever she recalled what Cen Mo had been through, so she couldn’t help speaking a word or two about it with her daughter and Song Yao.

Song Yao felt quite touched, actually. By saying this, Liang Mulan was clearly treating Cen Mo as half a son. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have said all this. Song Yao had always been good at coaxing others, so she said, “Don’t worry, Auntie. With you doting on Cen Mo, Nuan Nuan and I wouldn’t dare bully him!”

This made Liang Mulan’s heart warm up. Actually, Liang Mulan was discussing with Lin Jingquan about acknowledging Cen Mo as their godson. This way, Cen Mo would be someone who had parents doting on him. But Lin Jingquan feared that to raise this request now would be too abrupt. He said to wait a while and bring it up when they became more familiar with each other.

Liang Mulan felt it made sense too, so she didn’t mention this matter last night at dinner.

Song Yao saw that Lin Nuan had already put on the anti-radiation clothing Liang Mulan brought. She put it on before Liang Mulan as well, thanking her.

Liang Mulan and Lin Ran were both around, so Cen Mo made two more bowls of tomato egg noodles, wanting Liang Mulan and Lin Ran to have a taste as well.

Liang Mulan and Lin Ran had eaten before they came and had initially declined, but Cen Mo had already asked the servants to bring it to the table. They were first attracted by the appearance of the noodle dish, then by the aroma. They ended up finishing the entire bowl, including the soup, repeatedly praising Cen Mo for having great culinary skills.

Chapter 1044: Lu Jinnan Picked Up the Glass Before Him and Took a Sip

Lin Nuan told Liang Mulan that they found out that the Lu family’s ancestors were imperial chefs and that they later opened a restaurant. Liang Mulan was shocked to hear this. She gazed at Lin Nuan. “Nuan Nuan, why didn’t you inherit this talent?”

Thinking back to her own culinary skills, Lin Nuan only managed to say this after a long while, “Maybe… the Lu family’s culinary skills are only imparted to the male descendants.”

Everyone in the house was tickled to hear this, except Tuan Tuan, who didn’t grasp what was going on. He placed both hands on the table, looked left and right before climbing down the stool. He then squirmed under the table, grabbing Lin Nuan’s knees with both hands and sticking a leg up, wanting to sit in Lin Nuan’s lap.

When Lin Nuan lowered her head, she saw the bright-eyed Tuan Tuan, so she lifted him up and plopped him in her lap.

Lin Ran had an appointment with Gu Shaoting at noon regarding a serious matter, so after finishing her noodles, she left. Liang Mulan urged Lin Nuan and Song Yao to rest for half an hour before lunch, then went to the kitchen to tell the chefs what to make for lunch.

After returning to her room, Lin Nuan couldn’t sleep. She was constantly focused on what was happening in America.

A big piece of news happened on Bai Xiaonian’s side last night when Lin Nuan was asleep. At the press conference, she asked the spokesperson what crime they were charging Lu Jinnan with.

Perhaps because China had just arrested the United States Embassy’s ambassador’s son, the US didn’t dare accuse Lu Jinnan of a crime yet. But since they had already announced the press conference, they couldn’t very well call it off, so they could only stutter about how it concerned the country’s confidential matters. They stated that they needed to collect more evidence, so they couldn’t speak further at the moment.

The reporters below asked the point of the press conference. Was it to waste everyone’s time?

The spokesperson onstage looked vexed as well. When he received orders to hold off, he felt despair. That was especially so when he heard that Bai Xiaonian would be coming today. He felt even greater despair, feeling that he was about to lose his job.

Bai Xiaonian spoke calmly. “Okay then… since that’s the case, let me ask you in another capacity. As the wife of the Kaide Corporation’s president, Mr. Lu Jinnan, I’d like to ask the US government, what reason does the US government have to arrest my husband without sufficient evidence? And why are you rejecting bail without giving an explanation? Don’t tell me… you’re bullying and suppressing other countries’ citizens using your identity as a superpower!”

Time seemed to have halted for five or six seconds. The spokesperson was still processing the fact that Bai Xiaonian and Lu Jinnan were a married couple. Since when? Why hadn’t he heard about this!

After a long while, the spokesperson said, “The US is a superpower, that’s right. But we’ve never used this identity to bully or suppress other countries’ citizens. Regarding…”

“So, under the name of what crime did you take away my husband, Lu Jinnan, for interrogation? He hasn’t been allowed a visit from family or a lawyer, and no reason has been given for that!” Bai Xiaonian spoke in an aggressive tone.

When Lin Nuan saw this video, nearly ten hours had passed since the press conference.

Lin Nuan had no idea if this was a blessing in disguise for Lu Jinnan. At least… Bai Xiaonian was acknowledging the fact that they were married before the public.

She wondered how Lu Jinnan was doing and if he was suffering any hardship inside.

Fu Huai’an had some foundation in the US. He didn’t rest after he got there and went around asking about Lu Jinnan’s current condition. He got the news that the US was planning to accuse Lu Jinnan of being a spy. The interrogation process for spies was a little different, but Fu Huai’an could be sure of one thing—Lu Jinnan probably wasn’t having it easy.

Yes, Lu Jinnan indeed wasn’t having it easy. After he went in until now, he was inundated with questioning and not allowed to rest at all. His eyes were filled with red blood vessels, and his face and body had suffered injuries.

Right now, Lu Jinnan had just come out of the spy interrogation room and was seated in the chair he had sat in when he first arrived.

If it weren’t for the news of the capture of the son of the United States Embassy’s ambassador, Lu Jinnan would probably be undergoing another round of torture in the interrogation room. Now that the United States ambassador’s son was captured, they didn’t dare act recklessly with Lu Jinnan.

Lu Jinnan picked up the glass before him and took a sip, his dry mouth filled with the taste of blood…

He had the same carefree manner, seemingly indifferent towards the person sent by the US intelligence department to interrogate him all over again.

They had sent a beautiful woman this time. She came in with a pack of cigarettes and a lighter and placed them in front of Lu Jinnan. She apologized to Lu Jinnan with a smile, “Sorry to have shocked you!”

“Can’t call it shock…” Lu Jinnan took out a cigarette and lit it. “I guess you were planning to accuse me of being a spy. Later, my corporation or country probably did something, and you were forced to take me out of that interrogation room and invite me here. They then sent you to apologize to me. You should be a rather highly-ranked official, eh?”

Lu Jinnan tapped away his cigarette ash nonchalantly. If it weren’t for the red blood vessels in his eyes, no one would be able to guess he hadn’t slept a wink in over 36 hours.

The long-haired beauty sat with her legs crossed opposite him, a slight smile on her lips. “Actually, Mr. Lu, all I want to know is whether Mr. Ran Chaoqian took any information with him when he returned to China. You’ll make our job easier by telling us, and we can then help you be more comfortable…”

Lu Jinnan laughed softly. “Since you’re a beauty, let me point out a way for you…”

That beauty nodded, then heard Lu Jinnan say, “Go find Ran Chaoqian and ask him!”

That beauty had yet to have a taste of Lu Jinnan’s vicious tongue, so she actually didn’t really care. What kind of person was he exactly, to make the entire department boil with rage? He was but a rogue-ish old pimp.

“If we could find Ran Chaoqian, we wouldn’t have invited Mr. Lu here…” The beauty remained as poised as ever. “I won’t hide it from Mr. Lu. We saw your brain’s reaction and heart rate response during the interrogation, and we feel that you must have been through some special training that helps you deal with interrogations. So… we have reason to suspect that you’re a spy. We all know that each country has the right to persecute international spies! So I advise that you cooperate with us…”

“Really?” Lu Jinnan looked indifferent. “Evidence? Just based on my brain’s reaction and heart rate response during the interrogation? I’m not some nobody you can capture at whim, I’m the president of the Kaide Corporation! Or else…”

Lu Jinnan’s deep eyes gazed at the beauty as he tapped his finger on the table, still wielding the cigarette. “You would invite me here again!”

After tapping the cigarette ash away, Lu Jinnan leisurely leaned back and smiled at the beauty with his eyes narrowed. “Is there no one else in your intelligence department? Why did they get someone big-breasted, brainless, and pretentious to come here and waste my time!”

Lu Jinnan’s vision swept over the beauty’s breasts frivolously and fell upon her hands. “Oops, I said it wrong. Your breasts aren’t that big. Did you just get a divorce?”

He was spot on. The veins on the beauty’s temples started popping as she restrained her expression. “Mr. Lu, my private matters have nothing to do with you…”

Lu Jinnan’s gaze slowly shifted away from the mark left behind by a ring on the woman’s finger. He smiled. “Did your husband find you too boring, with you putting on a high-and-mighty attitude all day, and get a mistress outside? Is that why he wanted a divorce?”

Seeing that beauty’s expression, Lu Jinnan made a “tsk” sound.

“It seems like I was spot on!” Lu Jinnan laughed. “Let me guess. Your position should be quite high… I’m guessing you were busy with work all day, and work was more like your companion than your husband. The two of you barely had sex more than a handful of times a year!”

The beauty’s eyes narrowed.

“Tsk… spot on again!” Lu Jinnan nonchalantly tapped the cigarette ash away, shaking his head. “If I were your husband, I’d definitely divorce you as well. Never mind the fact that you’re too boring, but you also like to act like you have everything under control. But is everything really under your control?”

The beauty really wanted to give Lu Jinnan a few tight slaps, but she held herself back. She smiled at Lu Jinnan in a professional manner. “So, Mr. Lu, what information did Mr. Ran Chaoqian bring you exactly?”

“Speaking of which, I’d like to ask. You detained our country’s specialists in the US. How many advanced turbines did you get our country’s specialists to develop for your country?”

Lu Jinnan was clearly immune to all sorts of tactics. Never mind that, he was superb at pissing the interrogators off too.

“It seems like you’re fond of this place, Mr. Lu, and would like to have a prolonged stay here…”

“Just tell me you like me if that’s the case. Although you’re not my type, I can manage to take two glances at you!” Lu Jinnan replied very quickly, the smile on his lips a superficial one.

The woman seated opposite Lu Jinnan finally lost her patience. She got up and walked out of the room, her chair making a particularly loud sound as it scratched the ground.

Then there was the sound of high heels clacking, followed by the door slamming. Lu Jinnan’s smile widened, and he exhaled a thin puff of smoke from his lips in a carefree manner.

“I think that time isn’t enough. We need to deprive him of more sleep…”

After leaving the interrogation room, the woman from earlier spoke as she looked at Lu Jinnan through the glass window.

Just then, their colleague came running in and said, “The secretary of state’s office called and told us to release him if we don’t get anything out of the interrogation!”

“Release him?” The woman was shocked.

“Right, they said to release him…” The messenger nodded.

“Releasing him just because of an ambassador’s son? There’s definitely a problem with this Lu Jinnan. He’s definitely a spy!”

“Evidence?” The woman’s boss spoke with a solemn face. “We have no evidence!”

“Old trick!” the woman said.

The old trick was to fabricate evidence despite there being no evidence.

“The higher-ups won’t allow it! Right now, the Chinese are parading in protest, demanding the release of this Mr. Lu. Even our citizens are participating in it. I heard the chairman of the Kaide Corporation is in the US already. It seems like even the De Niro Company is speaking up on this issue. The higher-ups are under great pressure. Moreover, there’s that wife of Lu Jinnan, Bai Xiaonian. Our embassy ambassador’s son is also in their hands. Forget it… release him!”

Although the woman’s chest was still aching from the exchange and she couldn’t take it lying down, since their boss had spoken, who would dare detain Lu Jinnan further?

“But Lu Jinnan has injuries on his body. His identity is special, and the media is giving this matter great attention. If we let him walk out with his injuries, we’re probably going to be in trouble too.”

“The deed’s already done. I’ll arrange for someone else to go in to apologize to Lu Jinnan and send him away respectfully!”

“But…”

The lady wanted to argue some more, but they had already turned and left.

Lu Jinnan sat there in a relaxed manner. He took a puff of his cigarette, then tapped the corner of his lips with his thumb. He realized that because he had spoken too much earlier, the corners of his lips were bleeding again.

Ever since Lu Jinnan was brought back to this interrogation room, his heart was put at ease…

He was now certain he would be able to leave this place. According to what the US usually did, Lu Jinnan must personally admit that he was a spy before he would be released from that room. Otherwise… Lu Jinnan wasn’t sure he would have been able to survive much longer in the spy interrogation room earlier.

Just as Lu Jinnan expected, very quickly, someone came in and told him that they had captured the wrong person. They arranged another room for Lu Jinnan and let him wash up. They also attended to his wounds.

Lu Jinnan sat there and didn’t move. He took out a cigarette. “Do you think this matter is over just because you said you captured the wrong person?”

He tossed the pack of cigarettes onto the table and sneered. “You captured the wrong person, and I suffered a beating. Furthermore, I was tied up and beaten… Was this appropriate?”

“Mr. Lu, we’re very sorry about this. We will obviously give you some compensation as well…”

“Compensation?” Lu Jinnan looked up and lit a cigarette. “Tell me about it…”

The guy who came to release Lu Jinnan was stumped. Wouldn’t most people nod in agreement and then go out to talk with their leader after hearing this? Why was this Mr. Lu so unpredictable?

“I was told that you would be compensated, but the details of the compensation are up to the higher-ups. I was sent here to take you for a shower and attend to your wounds. Afterward, our team leader will come and talk to you!” The guy was still very professional.

“Pass a message to your team leader. Tell him to get those few guys who strapped me to a chair and beat me up to come over. Let me beat them up, and I’ll let this matter rest! I know that you’re contemplating how the media is going to write about this injury on my face. Well… you can just tell them that I willingly sparred with those people. The few of us would have injuries on our faces then anyway, so things could be explained clearly…”

The guy was speechless.

“Mr. Lu, please don’t make things difficult for me. I’m only responsible for taking you to have your wounds attended to and to let you shower and change your clothes!”

“Why didn’t you get a beauty to come over for this? You and I are both men, so how are we going to shower and change clothes?” Lu Jinnan laughed and looked at the guy.

The guy was speechless.

The door opened again. The guy looked towards the door, standing perfectly straight. Lu Jinnan also turned back.

This time, Lu Jinnan saw their team leader, Jacksel.

Because Jacksel was a Westerner, his eyes appeared particularly deep-set.

He made a motion for his subordinate to go out and then walked to Lu Jinnan. He sat at the desk, took out a tablet computer, and played the video of Bai Xiaonian aggressively questioning the spokesperson…

Bai Xiaonian’s hair was tied up in a ponytail, and her beautiful features looked solemn as she stood there looking like a brave warrior, speaking in a sonorous voice.
