Thoughts and Things

A thing. A thing in which I write some poetry. I've never really written much poetry, so... yeah. Exciting. I... More

Growing Up
A Child's Eyes
Reflecting
Don't you dare
Seeing is believing
An Innocent Smile
A Quick Allegory
Pain is relative
Then and Now
The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out
Just like the movies
Maybe I'm not the problem
Truth behind a mirror
The Gray Area
A Game of Hide and Seek
The Real Horror Story
In the garden
It's not funny
This is who I am
The Carnival
Your gift is not wanted here
Not Falling
Madness
Just back off
Don't remind me
Isn't it?
Isolation
They say there's strength in numbers
Poison
Daily Routine
Are we one and the same?
A big word
Here's why:
Maybe I've been typecast
I don't need to be saved
That's enough
I hope you do
So very tired
Kids have more fun
It's not about you
Look, this isn't working
If I don't care, you can't hurt me
I'm kind of new to this whole thing
I'm still standing
I worry all the time about everything
Absolutely Nothing
I'm lonely, so I sit by myself
Damn Math
Mirror, Mirror
Identity Crisis
"For greed, all nature is too little"
Fear and respect often go hand in hand
Heartbeats
The Hydra
The Ugly Truth
Aren't I funny?
Here, take this
Don't judge a book by its cover
Don't forget to remind me
School is over in the afternoon, but I don't stop thinking
I know I shouldn't have, but I went to bed angry
I keep to myself most of the time
Beauty comes in every shape and size
Time Heals All Wounds
Useless
Fluidity
Think of Me
I think my patience is wearing thin
Blessed are those who know exactly what to say
Flesh is the easiest mask to wear
Obsession
Another character to play
Silence
Unresolved
Not quite myself anymore
Never
Far worse things
Where has she gone?
Pyromaniac
Traumatized
Are we talking about the same person?
Colorblind
Worrying gets us nowhere
A letter to the girl in my class:
You, in that dress
In the eye of the storm
Like a parrot
I wish-
Not gone for good, at least
Long Distance

"Theology of the Body"

[Author's note: I'm currently at a catholic high school, and our religion class is teaching us "Theology of the Body" (basically religious views on sexuality, chastity, and other junk I don't particularly care about). My teacher gave us one of the assignments in the workbook, which was to write a poem that "creatively helps others realize why men and women do not make sense without each other-the two were made for union with each other." We could write any kind of poem on this topic, but we would have to read it in front of the entire class.

The assignment originally infuriated me-and the fact that I would have to read my work to my classmates didn't make it any better. I finally decided I would just tackle it from a different angle, even if it wasn't quite what the assignment asked for. I read it to the class, everyone seemed to like it, my teacher didn't seem to notice anything wrong with it, and a few friends told me I ought to post it online. So here it is. Enjoy.]

The jokes have all been made, mostly by the boys-

How a world run by women would result in endless noise,

How each day would be filled with talk of clothes and endless chatter

(And the fights that occurred would likely be caused by the latter).

But if it were flipped, if the boys ran the universe,

The girls joke that it would surely be a horrible curse-

A world filled with men who won't wash their clothes

(No one stops for directions-these travelers are pros).

But a world with only one or the reverse-?

That, all can agree, would be a whole lot worse.

Scientifically speaking, the human race would die out,

This is the absolute truth, without a doubt.

To continue the cycle, to make certain we don't slip,

To make sure that our race is more than a blip-

A blip on a screen, just a speck in the infinite void,

To make certain that our race isn't entirely destroyed,

Both men and women must exist, they must continue to love,

To continue the life cycle under eyes from above.

But, though the race cannot continue without one or the other,

We still must remember to love one another.

Addendum:

Love does not discriminate,

Love does not hate.

Lovers have their differences, in that there's no shame,

But sometimes, some parts of them are one and the same.

Does this diminish the way they feel?

No, not at all-their love is just as real.

True love cannot be denied-

It can't. Don't worry. They've already tried.
