„Dear Diary,

Gemma is still in the hospital wing. Turns out she is resistant to anti-cold potions of Madame Pomfrey and has to rest just like we muggles usually do. It felt weird to not have her sit beside me again, especially in Potions. To work on yourself a whole lesson long can be so tiring.

I never realized how much work Gemma actually did herself when we teamed up. Am I really that lazy when it comes to brewing potions?

I mean, it's not that I don't want to do anything at all, it's just that Gemma can already do it way better than me anyways and she's so fast, so why not using that a bit to my and her advantage? Yes, I know what you think now, that those are just silly ways to talk myself out of work and this here is me trying to justify not working harder, but in all honesty, I fucked that potion up today and Gemma tries to get good grades, so it really is better for her to not let me do as much.

Moreover, today I realized how much I am doing with Gemma and only Gemma. Apart from Sean, the twins and Louis I hardly talk to anyone outside our dormmates and I wanted to change that. That's why I decided to just randomly sit to some students in my year. At first it was a bit weird, even though they allowed me to sit with them, but then we realized how much we can talk about.

These girls, I decided to hang around with today, are so nice and they agreed to help me out the next time I am alone in potions. One girl even claims she has a special pass with Snape. No shit. She really does. Because when her friends started to explain all the things Snape let pass... There was no other explanation than that she is the teacher's pet.

Sometimes she even finds it creepy, especially when he randomly compliments her red hair. She has really lovely hair, but that still isn't an invitation of a teacher to just compliment it out of nowhere. I can get why she still doesn't try to push her limits as often.

Then they told me some exciting gossip about the Syltherin boys in their house. You won't believe what I heard about Adrien Pucey. He got elected into the Quiditch Team by promising Graham Montague to go out with HIS SISTER. Can you believe that? How ridiculous. If that are the criteria to get into their quidditch team, then I really wonder how they won the previous years.

Good thing that the Gryffindor Team is giving them hell this year. Last year they had a great shot at them, the twins really proved themselves as awesome beaters and Oliver Wood, their captain, worked hard to get a good team together. But their seeker sucked. No matter how many goals they achieved, it was never enough to beat the other team.

This year is totally different. They have Harry Potter (I don't know how that worked, especially since first years aren't even allowed to play) as their seeker now, a new chaser and George and Fred with newly found motivation to work on their swings.

And they worked on their swings. Meos Dio! The intensity Fred is playing with. George as well of course!

The Ravenclaw Team is also very good this year. They have new tactics and strategy plays and apart from that a new training method. When they practice they not only train the team members that currently play, they also have trainees that train with them. Such as people who want to be seeker in the future, like Cho, can train already with them in their free time if they have time, to become better and get to know the tactics and team dynamic.

I really think that this training method could work. It's smart of their captain to think further ahead. Furthermore, that gives them the advantage of using the trainees as opponent team for a better play.

Maybe I could try such a training? It won't hurt me to have a look at it. What if I even enjoy it? I could play against the other houses and give them hell. Could be fun.

I should take Gemma with me. I have the feeling she would be a good player, because she already is a keeper. (hehehehe)

Anyways, back to the girls I hung out with today, they also told me stuff about other people and professors. I wonder where they got all this information from? When I told Gemma, she was more interested in how I managed to just sit beside people I don't really know. She missed the point.

After that lunch break I had a very funny interaction with Lee, when I was on my way to another Charms lesson.

"Oh god, sorry," he tries to catch his ball that already slipped out of his hands again.

I lunge forward to get it: "Here."

I pass him his ball, it feels weird in my hands.

"Do I want to know what this actually is?," I look at him and the way he carefully plays with the ball in his hands.

"Better not sweetheart, better not. Could bring you and me in danger. And I don't want you in danger," he throws the ball in the air and catches it.

"Is it dangerous?," I raise an eyebrow and look at him.

"Not exactly dangerous, but also not very harmless either," he shows me a big tooth flashing grin.

"Then don't you think it would be better to just hold the ball? I don't know, but you throwing the ball around doesn't seem like a very safe way to handle it," I dodge some first years that come running my way.

"Maybe, but where's the fun in that. Also I am sure you will balance my –shit," the ball slips out of his hands again and we both try to get it.

Our heads bump together, but he has the ball in his hands again. We look at each other and start to laugh.

"Hey better watch out where you are running!," I hear an older student scream after the kids.

I rub my head and turn around seeing the twins. One of them waves at me and shrugs their shoulders at their brothers behaviour, the other one looks after the kids and when he turns around he looks pissed.

"What happened to either one of them?," I whisper to Lee.

"Don't know, almost scary to not see both smile," Lee plays a shiver.

"How can you not know? You are supposed to be their best friend," I turn to look forward again and nude Lee a bit.

"No no sweetheart, you got that wrong. They are their best friends, I'm just the funny sidekick everyone loves," he nods approvingly.

"Wow that's sad," I laugh.

"Well one gotta do what a good sidekick has to do. You can't be loved by everyone if you don't sacrifice anything," he throws the ball into the air again.

"Amen," I put a hand in the air.

Lee has to hold back a snicker at my gesture.

"So what is the ball supposed to do now?," I try to catch the ball away from him.

"Woah there. Careful!," the ball lands in a bag of a fifth year before us.

My eyes grow wide, I whisper a quiet sorry to Lee for losing his ball. But he doesn't glare at me as I thought he would, he simply drags me by my arm and pulls me towards him and away from that fifth year suddenly taking on speed. What is going on?

Then I hear a small explosion and some cuss words my mother wouldn't have approved of in any way. I try to turn around but Lee keeps pushing my head forward.

"No. Don't. No looking back, just keep ahead. We don't want you to get into trouble."

"And why don't we want me to get into trouble?," I try to turn around again, but Lee doesn't let me.

"Because I promised the twins to not get you into any trouble. For some reason they were very serious about that and I won't let them down."

He says it if it was nothing important, but it deeply is. My heart jumps violently again at the thought that they care about me. I look to the floor and try to hide my smile.

"Is Gemma still sick?," Lee opens the door for me to let me into the classroom.

"Yes, she will be for a while. For some reason she is immune to any potion Pomfrey gave her."

"That's sick."

"No she's sick," we both break into laughter: "If you want to, you can keep me company this lesson?"

"Why not," he shrugs: "Maybe I learn something for once."

Just as he wants to settle down beside me at my usual seat, a hand leans against the table. Surprised I look to the person who belongs to the hand. I'm more confused than happy to see Fred.

"Lee, my friend, you got a bit confused. That seat is already reserved," he pats his friend, who also looks a bit confused between me and Fred, on the shoulder.

"Gemma is sick if that's what you are hinting at?," Lee points out.

"I know. But just yesterday I made myself comfortable here and I plan to do that again. Nice of you for moving so I can sit here," he moves Lee away so he can sit down.

"No problem I guess?," he looks from Fred who just settled down towards me and ruffles my hair: "Well then sweetheart, faith is against me learning something today."

"Maybe another time," I wave a goodbye and he shoots me a thumbs up.

A bit irritated I turn to Fred who still looks bitter next to me.

"¿Qué te pasa hoy?," I mumble and get out my stuff.

"What?," he blinks confused and forgets to look bitter for a moment.

"Qué? Oh sorry," I laugh a bit.

"Are you making fun of me now?," he gets irritated again.

"No, not at all. I actually was asking you what is wrong with you today. Accidently switched."

"Oh. I actually like to hear you talk in Spanish," Fred watches me flicking through my textbook.

"Really?," I look up surprised: "Didn't sound like that earlier."

"I'm a dick today sorry," he scratches the back of his neck, getting a bit red, looking incredibly sweet.

"Want to talk about it?," I place my chin on my hand and look at him with a slight smile plastered on my lips.

As if I suddenly pressed a switch his whole mannerism changes and he smiles as well. Making me feel like fluff.

He didn't actually tell me what was on his mind, but just listening was enough for the moment. I think I will ask him out for the Hogsmeade weekend in the end. I can't lose anything.

Especially after what I have learned today. Most people are simple and won't push you away for reaching out. Maybe we lose great opportunities because we fear their rejection, when in reality they wouldn't even think of rejection. Just talk to them, nothing will happen, even if they decide not to talk to you in the end.

"Si alguna vez te equivocaste tranquilo, lo mejor es haberlo intentado."

If you ever went wrong one time, don't panic- the most important thing is that you even tried it. That's what my papà always used to tell me and today I maybe got a part of the importance of it.

I'm getting tired, I better go off to sleep now. You should too.

Love,

Jade."
