Drag Performers or Drag Artists are a group of individuals who dress in non-traditional ways for their gender identity (such as men who dress up extremely femininely) and perform shows such as dancing, singing, lip-syncing, comedy, fashion shows, and so on. These individuals tend to switch pronouns when performing, have different names when performing, and have a character/persona they perform as.
DRAG QUEEN
Drag Queens are the most common of drag performers. Drag Queens are typically men, masculine-aligned, neutral-aligned, or androgynously-aligned individuals who dress up femininely and often use she/her pronouns when performing, regardless of what pronouns they use outside of performance. However, one can be transfeminine and a drag queen as well.
Drag Queens do not have to be assigned male at birth. They can include transgender men and transmasculine people as well.
DRAG KING
Drag Kings are women, feminine-aligned, neutral-aligned, or androgynously-aligned individuals who dress up masculinely and typically use he/him pronouns when performing, regardless of what pronouns they use outside of performance. However, one can be transmasculine and a drag king as well.
Drag Kings do not have to be assigned female at birth. They can include transgender women and transfeminine people as well.
FAUX QUEEN/KING
A Faux Queen, Diva Queen, or Hyper Queen is a subset of a Drag Queen used to describe someone who is a woman or is feminine-aligned, but preforms as a Drag Queen. Even though they aren't 'crossdressing,' they still exaggerate their femininity in a way that can be described as a performance, and seen as such.
A Faux King or Hyper King is a subset of a Drag King used to describe someone who is a man or is masculine-aligned, but performs as a Drag King. Even though they aren't 'crossdressing,' they still exaggerate their masculinity in a way that can be described as a performance, and seen as such.
FEMALE TO MALE (FTM / F2M)
FtM, or F2M, is used to refer to trans masculine people and/or trans men. It is a trans person who is transitioning from woman to man.
FEMME
There is no official colour meaning.
Femme is a term used in LGBTQ+ subculture to describe someone, typically a lesbian or otherwise sapphic woman, who has a feminine gender presentation. The term can refer to any LGBTQ+ femininity, but often refers to overblown and/or outwardly atypical femininity.
Femmes will often dress in feminine clothing, and typically present themselves in a more stereotypically feminine way, such as having long hair and wearing makeup. Femmes are also commonly thought of as having more "feminine" interests. However, femmes often subvert cultural expectations of femininity or show femininity in a uniquely LGBTQ+ way, as opposed to cishet women.
Some transmasculine femmes may not take certain steps associated with transmasculine transition, such as going on testosterone. Femmes can be cisgender, transgender, or any other gender modality. Femme can also be used by non-binary people.
LEATHER
No official colour meaning (that i could find).
The leather subculture denotes practices and styles of dress organized around NSFW activities. Wearing leather garments is one way that participants in this culture self-consciously distinguish themselves from mainstream sexual cultures. Leather culture is most visible in gay communities and most often associated with gay men ("leathermen"), but it is also reflected in various ways in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and heterosexual worlds. Many people associate leather culture with BDSM (Bondage/Discipline, Dominance/Submission, Sado/Masochism)
MALE TO FEMALE (MTF / M2F)
MtF, or M2F, is used to refer to trans feminine people and/or trans women. It is a trans person who is transitioning from man to woman.
MEN-LOVING MEN (MLM)
The flag have two blue stripes on the top and bottom representing men.
In the center is a green carnation. In ancient Rome and 19th century England, green indicated gay affiliations. Victorian men would often pin a green carnation on their lapel, as popularized by author Oscar Wilde.
In general, the achillean flag represents joy.
Now the term MLM (also known as achillean) itself is commonly used when referring to man-alligned characters or people who have shown some form of attraction towards other men or man-alligned characters or people, but does not have a specific label that is known. The term does not mean the person is gay, as they can still have attraction towards other genders, it just means they at least have some form attaction towards men or man-alligned people and are man-alligned themself. It is both a term and an identity, so i decided to include it here.
OTTER
There is no official colour meaning.
Otter is a term used by gay men, referring to a subset of men who blend the physical and social traits of both bears and twinks, both invoking and defying traditional masculinity. Otters may be defined by physical appearance, tastes, expression of traditionally gendered traits, and/or personal affiliation.
The generic image of an otter is a man of average build with a fair amount of body hair, and usually dressing in ways that combine traditional masculinity with a subversion of it. Otter presentation often leans into the casual, and otters are frequently considered to be laid back. They are distinguished from bears physically by their smaller frames as well as through their presentation being further distanced from the ruggedly masculine aesthetic. Gay men who fit the description of otters often consider themselves unaligned due to their balance of both masculine and feminine expressions of their manhood.
