Chapter 4. The Heroine and Male Lead

The heroine's name is Daphnne.

She was born and raised in an orphanage, which was located in the rural district of Lydia Kingdom. There, she met the male lead and became childhood friends. However, their romance did not progress until they've reached high school, where they transferred to S Academy and ran into many conflicts.

The first conflict Daphnne ran into was meeting Lucilline Rubius, the great villain.

"...Are you okay?" Daphnne was nervous. Her entire body was jittery, as if she could melt into slush immediately.

Lucilline didn't answer. His head hung down, with shadows clouded over his face.

A droplet of water slid down his chin, then dropped onto his collarbone.

With her eyes following the motion of the water droplet, Daphnne held her breath. She stayed looking wide-eyed at Lucilline's collarbone, fantasizing over just how beautiful this person appeared. Heat rushed to her cheeks, painting her in the colour red.

"...I'm sorry! I wasn't paying attention." Daphnne increased her apologies.

She was the one at fault here. She wanted the other to feel her sincerity; she'd rather there to be no misunderstandings.

Slowly, Lucilline raised his head.

Daphnne's blue iris eyes met a pair of golden ones. The transfer girl held her breath, feeling compulsory heat paddling within her chest. She waited for a response to her apologies.

Tension heightened in the air. The atmosphere stiffened astonishingly, and then...

"...It's fine." Lucilline responded.

Daphnne froze. She stood there, rooted on the spot. Were her ears working correctly? Did that pretty boy just say that... he was fine with such treatment? Doesn't that mean... he's faced worse? Was he ever bullied at school? Suddenly, guilt and anger flooded Daphnne's chest. She was mad at herself for this accident.

When she came back to herself, Lucilline had already brushed past her and walked into the academy building. The double doors closed shut behind his figure.

Daphnne jumped up and down. What should she do?

"Of course, I have to apologize!" She told herself. But then, she found herself stuck at a problem. "...what is that boy's name?"

*****

Lucilline slumped over the surface of his desk.

He was seated around the front row. Inside his classroom, he blended in with the crowd of eager students. Truth be told, Lucilline was never a goodie-two-shoes type of student. He just laid there across the desk, never bothering to listen the lesson taught. After all, he was the Young Master of the Duke Rubius household.

He'd learned all of these lessons five years ago. Was there any point to learn all this again?

Nobody bothered waking him up. On every test, he aced it, despite not cheating or listening to the lessons. The teacher called him a natural.

Lucilline didn't want to be a natural at school. He'd preferably use that talent to ace something else.

Earlier, when he was drenched in the fountain by that strange girl, Lucilline didn't exactly feel a rush of anger towards her. On a regular basis, if something like that happened to him, he would've snapped. But... not that time. He also stayed up last night, so his mind was functioning weirdly.

However, Lucilline never knew that it would lead to such a large misunderstanding! If he knew that saying those words would make the heroine pity him, then he would've kept his mouth shut.

He allowed his mind to drift away, trying to fill in some sleep.

"Class!" A woman filed into the classroom. Upon seeing their teacher, the students straightened their backs and stopped talking. The woman wore the school's uniform, a black sweater and a long skirt, with it befitting her image as a teacher. Her hair were blonde locks, and curled up like hair rollers. She wore black high heels, making her taller than usual.

"I have something to announce!" She declared.

Miss A. stood behind the podium, looking nice and proud. When her eyes fell upon the sleeping figure of Lucilline, she lost some of her courage. That third son of Duke Rubius... him sleeping in class wasn't a rare occurrence, rather, it happened all the time.

At first, Miss A. wanted to encourage this fellow noble student into studying harder. Instead, he gave her great results even without listening to the lessons.

It was then she realized, perhaps her lessons were useless?

But there was no need to fear! Today, her class is going to welcome a transfer student! With the addition of a new student, finally, it was Miss A.'s time to shine and show off that she wasn't completely useless! Her students actually needed her! She wasn't a useless teacher!

"Today, we have a new student with us!" She clapped her bony hands together.

Miss A. appeared rather cheery and different than usual. This caught the attention of her class, whose voices died down and their gazes turned into contemplation.

"Please welcome him with your open arms!" Miss A. said. She gestured towards the door.

Footsteps filed in, and whispers flooded in the classroom.

Lucilline had his sight cut off, so he didn't notice how gorgeous and handsome the teenage boy was, who just entered the classroom. "My name is Azalea. I hope to become good friends and companions with all of you. Thank you." The voice was soft and gentle, yet deep and soothing. Listening to this student's voice could soothe any person into sleeping.

And that was exactly what happened to Lucilline.

It was like a lullaby to him. Immediately, Lucilline's eyes closed and his breathing evened out.

"Azalea, you can take a seat wherever you'd like!" Miss A. announced.

Soon after this announcement, the sound of scuffling and a chair scraping against the floor had taken place beside Lucilline. The transfer student saw how there was only one empty seat beside the sleeping student, and had no choice but to sit there.

The remainder of the students found themselves surprised. The transfer student was sitting next to that Lucilline Rubius! He's the third son of Duke Rubius!

What kind of person gets to sit next to such a high-ranked noble?

The transfer student was handsome. Azalea had locks of white fluffy hair, which bounced up and down, like a feather brandished across the breeze. His eyes were a gorgeous colour of amethyst purple, glowing like the pupils of a cat when blended within the shadows. Azalea's figure was thin yet masculine. It was plain to see that he'd gone through special training to get to here.

Azalea shot a look at Lucilline, who had his face burrowed in the crook and cranny of his arms.

...forget it. Azalea took his gaze off from Lucilline, and turned to pay attention to class.

Miss A. continued to discuss her lesson. Along the way, she passed papers around to each student. When she arrived at the desk where Lucilline and Azalea sat, she paused.

Lucilline was sleeping in class again!

Miss A. wanted to shed tears all over again.

Sensing her hardship, Azalea turned a solemn gaze to Lucilline. He reassured Miss A., "Don't worry. I'll wake him up." Facing the direction of the sleeping student, Azalea extended out a hand. He patted Lucilline's shoulder twice, but his touch was like lightweight.

It was impossible to wake someone up like that.

Therefore, Lucilline completely ignored him.

Azalea found the corner of his mouth twitch. He patted the sleeping student's shoulder twice again, but with more weight. This finally managed to wake the sleeping student up.

Lucilline shifted. His slender figure moved, then his slumped body arose from the table.

Originally, his eyes were closed. A curtain of delicate eyelashes greeted Azalea's anticipating gaze, then the eyes fluttered open. Lucilline's eyes were a rich colour of gold, which were able to halt a person into gazing mesmerizingly into them. That was exactly what Azalea found himself doing.

"...yes?" Lucilline's voice snapped him out of his trance.

Azalea paused. He then hardened his composure and explained, "Miss A. has been meaning to deliver these papers to you." He pressed a pile of paperwork into Lucilline's face. "Next time, don't sleep during class. It is disrespectful to Miss A."

Lucilline was stunned. He woke up, met the charming face of this transfer student(not as charming as himself, of course), then was stuffed in the face with a pile of paperwork.

He took the papers away from his face, turning it over to look at the work.

Lucilline, "..." He learned this shit five years ago.

His eyes shifted to look at Miss A., who was nervous as an onlooker.

Lucilline chuckled, "Miss A., next time, you don't need this fellow student to deliver the papers. Just call me over after class. I don't mind being delayed. Besides," His golden eyes thinned dangerously, "I thought I said in the past that it'd be fine to just ignore me during class?"

The figure of Miss A. stiffened. It was true. In the past, Lucilline directly told her that it'd be fine to ignore him during the lesson. However, Miss A. would feel guilty if she did so.

Therefore, Lucilline proved to her that he was capable of acing all of the tests she'd given to him.

This shocked Miss A., but it didn't lessen the guilt welling inside of her.

"...y-yes," Miss A. began, "But I thought that you might need to know what we're learning today. I just wanted to help on behalf as your teacher."

Lucilline waved his hand. "Thank you for the kindness."

But this world wouldn't be so kind to appreciate what you do.

Finally, Azalea stood up. He was a believer of righteousness, and an exorcist to the evil. He spoke sternly, "Miss A. is trying to help you. Instead of sleeping in class, shouldn't you pay attention?" Azalea's eyes shifted to look at the white shirt Lucilline wore, which was missing the uniformed black sweater...

"Additionally," He spoke, "You're not following the school's dress code. I believe that all students are capable of wearing their uniform."

Lucilline fell silent at the accusations. Was this transfer student saying that he didn't know how to wear clothes?!? A vein popped in his forehead. However, he couldn't just outright say that a girl splashed water onto his clothes, so he took it off. Wouldn't that just make him look like he's making excuses?

But again... he is shameless, so why can't he look like he's making excuses?

"No," Lucilline deadpanned sarcastically, "No, I don't know how to wear clothes, even though I'm a nobleman who is at the age of 15."

Laughter rang at the back of the class.

He implied that... Azalea, do you truly think a person like him doesn't know how to wear clothes?

To add more fuel to the fire, Lucilline directly untied the soaked sweater from his waist. This was the missing piece of clothing that Azalea wanted him to wear. "A girl made me take a bath in the water fountain," Lucilline spat, "Why don't you wear this and tell me how it feels?"

He threw the soaked clothing into Azalea's arms.

Immediately, Azalea shuddered at the freezing cold temperature. His sleeves were wet from touching the soaked sweater.

Then, it hit him that... he was accusing an innocent victim!

The fact struck him so badly that he stood there without saying anything.

Lucilline took the sweater back, then waved a hand at Miss A., who was also frozen. "Miss A., begin the lesson." Lucilline smiled. "I'll stay awake only for today, seeing that someone thinks I can't spend a single class without sleeping." Every expression on his face was outright beautiful. "Now please."

Miss A., who stood rooted at the spot, had been melted from her frozen state. Her eyes brightened at the fact that Lucilline was finally going to listen to her lesson!

She shot a grateful smile at Azalea, who was still frozen in shock, before carrying on with the lesson.

Throughout the entire lesson, Azalea stood there, frozen like a statue. Nobody bothered with him. "He knows how to sit down, right?" All the students harboured such thoughts. However, it was already the end of school, and Azalea still stood there.

"Thank you for listening to me, students." Miss A. smiled. Most of her smile was directed towards Lucilline, who was surprisingly, still wide awake!

"It's the end of school. We'll continue discussing about this lesson tomorrow."

The bell rang, signalling the end of school. Students filed out of the classroom, separating and sticking together into groups of friends. Some of them planned to visit the shopping centres, while others just wanted to hang out with each other. All in all, they were friends and it was the end of school. They wanted to have some fun outside!

Meanwhile, Lucilline took his leather bag (still soaked), then left the classroom. Unlike the other students, he planned to spend his time after school to polish the jewelry in his father's collection.

He left the school building along with other students.

By the time Azalea unfroze from his state, he was the only student left in the classroom. He looked at his own hands, which were still cold from holding onto Lucilline's sweater. "...I must apologize for accusing him." Then, something else struck him.

"...what is his name?" Unknowingly, he and the heroine were stuck on the same problem.
