This is for my great grandfather, who died at the age of 98 on March 5, 2015.
You're gone now
After ninety eight years
But I'll always remember you
Some times with smiles, others with tears
I've spent my entire life with you
You meant the world to me
But I wanted you to be here forever;
How selfish could I be?
You fought in two wars
Protected our country with everything you had
You had a son
Who gave me my dad
You had eight brothers
What a family to be in
I'll always remember you
My beloved, old kin
You were more than a grandparent
You were my friend
I can hardly believe
That this is the end
But you'll watch over me
Watch me as I grow
You'll keep me safe
That much I know
You requested your body be turned in to ash
I remember you saying this once in the past
Because your wife was cremated to
And you want to prove that love can forever last
So I say my goodbies
And thank God for you having been able to live
I thank you for taking care of my family
And giving me all of the love you could give
