After calming Vicky down I sent her upstairs to get some rest and I grabbed my phone to call Drew and let him know on what was happening with Emrys. I walked back into the kitchen with the phone up to my ear and waited for him to answer as I remade my coffee. After a few rings it went to his voicemail and my phone dinged causing me to remove it from my ear and look at the notification. It was a text from him saying he was in a board meeting and would call me back later so I hung up and continued to make my coffee before a knock at the door caught my attention.

I furrowed my eyebrows and checked the clock before setting my cup down and heading to the door. I peaked out the window before opening the door and saw it was the girl from the hospital; Vicky's girlfriend if I'm not mistaken. I opened the door causing her to look up nervously with a small smile.

"Hello Mrs. Sheard, I'm Aavya. Sorry about not formally introducing myself yesterday." She said after clearing her throat and once she was done speaking she stuck out her hand for me to shake.

"It's fine dear. There was a lot happening yesterday so I don't mind. It's nice to meet you as well." I said as I shook her hand before allowing her to step inside. She came in and looked around before standing there nervously, it was honestly amusing but I kept my laughter inside.

"Its only noon shouldn't you be at the school?" I asked as she was stepping inside.

"Well yes but I came to check on Vicky. She called me this morning and told me what was happening with Emrys and she sounded really upset so I wanted to make sure she was good." She explained to me as I closed and locked the door behind her.

"Well I just sent her upstairs so she could wash up and rest but I'll let her know you're here. Go ahead and take a seat on the couch I'll be right back down." I said as I made my way over to the stairs. I glanced back at her and saw her nod before heading over to the couch and sitting down.

I just shook my head and laughed to myself as I made my way up the stairs and to Vicky's room. I passed the bathroom on my way to her and saw that the mirrors were foggy so she had most likely just gotten out the shower. I knocked on her door and made my way in after hearing a quiet 'come in'.

"You're friend is downstairs for you." I said smoothly as she sat at her vanity brushing her hair out.

"My friend?" She asked in confusion as she thought about who it could be.

"Mhm your little friend Aavya from the hospital yesterday. She's sitting downstairs waiting for you." I said putting slight emphasis on the word friend just to see how she would react.

I could tell that it got her attention cause her eyes slightly widened but quickly went back to their normal size as she nodded her head and put her brush down.

"Alright well I'll be on my way down in a second. Thanks for letting me know." She said before gently clearing her throat whilst putting her things away. I decided to push a little further just to see what I could get out of her today, not in a forceful way but just playfully since she thinks that I don't know.

"You alright? You look like you got something on your mind." I asked as I walked over to her. I stood behind her and looked at her through her vanity mirror as she continued to put her things away and not make eye contact.

"Yes ma'am I'm fine." She rushed out as she continued to avoid my stare.

"Look at me." I said softly as I placed my hands on her cheeks and practically forced her head up. She quickly looked at me in the mirror but quickly broke eye contact before I could get a good look at her.

"Mama I'm fine I promise." She said as she finished putting her things away and moved to get up.

"Mm alright well you know you can talk to me about anything right?" I said as I stepped back and allowed her to get up from her seat.

"Yes ma'am I know." She said as she went over to her closet and found a pair of jogging pants to slip over the shorts she had on.

"Alright I was just making sure. Just seemed like you have something you wanna get off your chest." I said as I made my way over to the door. After hearing that statement she paused for a second and glanced back at me in slight terror.

"It's nothing mama I promise. And if there was then I would tell you when the time is right." She said with a sigh. I just nodded my head and ventured out of her room and back downstairs seeing Aavya on her phone.

"She'll be down in a second. Would you like something to drink?" I asked as I walked past her on my way to the kitchen.

"Alright and yes ma'am can I have some water?" She asked as she sat up and put her phone away. I nodded before waving her into the kitchen and walking over to the refrigerator.

I heard her get up and follow me into the kitchen as I pulled the pitcher of water out of the refrigerator. I turned around and got a glass cup from the cabinet before deciding to question her a little as well.

"So how did you meet Victoria?" I asked innocently as I poured her a glass of water.

"We met in night school last school year. That's when her, Em and I became friends." She said with a light smile as she took the cup from me.

"That's nice. So you guys are really close then?" I questioned as I set the water on the counter.

"Somewhat. She's closer to Em than I am." She answered with a light shrug as she took a sip of water.

"Oh alright. Your name is a little different, does it have a special meaning?" I asked keeping my questions neutral before prying deeper.

"Yes ma'am it actually does. It's Sanskrit and means 'first ray of the sun'. I was born at sunrise so my mom thought it was fitting. That's one thing Emrys and I have in common, both of our names are Sanskrit." She said with a bright smile.

"You have a beautiful smile. I bet all the boys just fall for you instantly huh?" I complimented her making her laugh nervously.

"Thank you but not quite. The boys don't really pay attention to me in that type of way. They're usually just trying to be friends and play ball with me." She said before taking another sip of water.

"Well if the boys aren't fawning over you I definitely know the girls are." I said with a laugh as I took a sip of my coffee. Upon hearing me say that she choked on her water a little started coughing. I stifled my laugh before finishing my sip and faking concern.

"Are you alright sweetheart?" I asked as I took her cup from her as she struggled to catch her breath. After a few seconds she was fine and nodded before clearing her throat.

"Yeah I'm okay. Went down the wrong pipe." She said patted her chest a little bit. Before I could respond Vicky had come downstairs fully dressed with another bag of clothes on her arm. She saw us standing in the kitchen so she set her bag down by the stairs and made her way in.

"Hey, I didn't think you would actually come over." She said softly as she stood next to Aavya. I took another sip of my coffee and watched them interact as if I wasn't standing there.

"You know when you call I come running. Had to make sure you was good." She responded with a smile that lowkey made me hot on the inside.

"Aww you're so softtt." Vicky cooed jokingly before starting to pull Aavya towards the living room.

"Man Ian soft and why is you pulling on me?" She asked even though she was allowing Vicky to basically drag her out.

"Cause I need you to drop me back off at the hospital so let's go." Vicky said as she paused by the stairs to pick up her bag. I quietly followed behind them and just watched them interact.

"Alright well I'll go start the car. Say bye to your moms and make sure you got everything. It was nice meeting you Mrs Sheard." Aavya said turning around to look at me with a smile.

"It was nice meeting you too dear and please just call me Mama K. Mrs Sheard is my mother in law, God rest her soul." I replied with a warm smile as I watched her walk out of the front door.

Once she was out the door I turned my attention to Vicky and watched her as she double checked her bag. After a few seconds she stood up and looked over at me as she put her bag on her shoulder to prepare to leave.

"She's nice." I said with a knowing smile causing Vicky to slightly freeze up before nodding and smiling softly as well.

"Yeah she is. But I'll see you tomorrow when I come get some more clothes. Or later on if you plan on visiting Emrys." She said as she adjusted her bag and her clothes.

"I might stop by with Dorinda and Jacky later on. Make sure you eat something okay? I don't need you in a bed next to her cause you're not eating." I said as I wrapped her up in a tight hug. She hugged me back just a tightly before kissing my cheek and pulling away.

"Yes ma'am I'll see you later." She said as she walked out the door and to the car. I stood in the window for a while before watching them pull off.
