3rd Person POV
FLASHBACK
"Willow, please, you don't have to do this if you don't want to." Supergirl tells Willow in the medbay. The green eyed girl was standing by her bedside, looking at the tablet at her vitals
"Yes I do." Willow says, her eyes training on Supergirl. "This is my job. This is what Ops has been preparing me for since...since forever."
"But we can get other kryptonite." Supergirl says. "I can get Lena to make more and--"
"How?" Willow asks. "When?" She questions. "You made Lena destroy the last that she had and the formula. There's no time to make more. You need kryptonite. I am kryptonite. You need to decide if you wanna lace weapons with my blood or if you wanna create a vapor from my blood. Either way...you can weaponize my blood."
Supergirl stares at Willow before turning around to the doorway. "Can you please tell her this is insane?" She questions the figure standing there
Standing in the doorway with his arms crossed is Marvin. "Willow Greene is a soldier. She knows her mission."
"This mission is stupid." Supergirl says
"No it isn't." Willow says. "It's about protecting you. That isn't stupid. That's important." She holds up her arms. "Kara, look at me. Don't you understand? I'm dying anyway." She says, gesturing to the green lines that have made their way to the top of her lip
"We can find a way to save you." Supergirl says. "You're just sick. We have a million anecdotes here that can help you."
"No." Willow whispers
"Are you two kidding me right now?" Supergirl questions, looking between Marvin and Willow. "Will...we have been trying to figure out a way to help you escape Ops for a while and now you're telling me you're just gonna, what, do what they had planned for you anyways? You will die, Winn ran the stats. You will die, do either of you get that?"
"As long as I'm alive, I will never escape Ops." Willow says, her eyes shifting to focus on Marvin. Supergirl tries to hold back her tears as Willow focuses her gaze on Supergirl. "If my death can stop Reign for good and save your life...then it's worth it."
"We don't trade lives." Supergirl says. "That's not how this works."
"I'm not trading lives." Willow says, a coughing fit with a green tint to the air taking over her as Supergirl stares
"You're protecting me. You die and I live." Supergirl says when Willow was done coughing. "How the hell is that not trading lives?"
"Because you were always meant to be a hero." Willow tells her, tears welling in her green eyes. "And I...I was always meant to be a soldier. And I have a mission that I must complete."
"This isn't right." Supergirl says, looking between Marvin and Willow, her tone slightly angry. "Do you get that? This isn't right! Your mission is stupid and your whole secret organization is stupid! I hope you rot in hell when you die." She says, looking Willow straight in the eyes
"Please don't." Willow whispers, the tears in her eyes forming as a green liquid. "Don't do that."
"Don't do what?" Supergirl growls, crossing her arms
"Don't push me away in an attempt to make the severity of the situation hurt less." Willow tells her to which Supergirl's arms drop to her sides
Supergirl shakes her head, tears falling from her eyes as she lifts her hands to cover her face
"It's okay." Willow says, her heart aching for her friend in front of her
And despite both girls knowing they were forbidden to touch, at that moment, both surged forwards and wrapped the other in a tight hug. And for that moment, neither was in danger and neither was in harm
Supergirl leaves the room, wiping the tears in her eyes and leaving to go and talk with the others about the remainder of the plans
"You know what you're doing?" Marvin questions, stepping further into the room
"It's the only way to make sure Kara stays safe." Willow answers. "I have to fight Reign with my kryptonite bomb which...which will probably end up killing me."
"And if you die...hypothetically Base Ops' tracker in your blood will deactivate." Marvin tells her. "Since the tracker is in your heart, we can use the bomb in your blood to our advantage, have it go off. Once your heart stops beating, your tracker will deactivate. You'd be free from their tracking."
"Um...I'd also be dead." Willow points out
"Theoretically." Marvin says
"Dude, there's no theoretically." Willow scoffs. "Dead is dead."
"I'm not saying you die." Marvin says. "Your heart needs to stop just long enough for the tracker to think you're dead."
"You're not listening to me....I'd still be dead." Willow tells him
"And you're not listening to me." Marvin tells her. "You do not need to stay dead."
"You're making no sense." Willow tells him
"Do you remember our training a month ago?" Marvin asks. "We were working on illusions and energy transference."
"Yeah." Willow says
"Here are your options." Marvin tells her. "You create an illusion of yourself dying on the ground for show, for people and cameras to see. Then, you use your powers to create the illusion that you are dead, stopping your heart momentarily. I will secretly retrieve you and bring you back."
"I'm not confident in my illusions." Willow says
"Then energy transference is your next option." Marvin tells her. "Your kryptonite bomb goes off in your fight against Reign. You still create the show of you dying on the ground except you will really be on the ground this time--"
"Dude, if my kryptonite bomb goes off I probably will be really dying." Willow says. "It won't be a show."
"Then we will use it to our advantage." Marvin tells her. "After your bomb goes off before you die, you use your powers to transfer yourself into your green wisps and get you out of that location and over to me. Once that happens, you will, inevitably, die."
"Which sucks." Willow interjects
"But." Marvin continues. "I will bring you back to life and remove you from the area."
"This plan...it sounds tough." Willow tells him
"You are more than capable of handling it." Marvin tells her. "Remember: your powers are a form of mental magic. You're only as strong as you believe yourself to be. If you can believe that you can pull it off...you most likely will."
"Alright..." Willow whispers. "I'm in."

Reign has Supergirl in a chokehold, weakening her, before she screeches and blasts the other heroes backwards
"You cannot win." Reign growls at Supergirl. "There is no prison you can build that can contain me. There is no one on this planet of equal power that can kill me."
"That's what you think." Sam says, walking over and she was about to stab Reign with a sword
"No!" Supergirl screams, throwing Reign over her shoulder as Sam pulls to a halt as Reign is thrown to the ground
Reign pops up off the ground and immediately screeches, throwing Supergirl and Sam backwards. Both girls groan on the ground, pushing themselves up and looking around. The screeching had stopped for some reason and when they looked over, they saw why
Willow was standing there, holding Reign in a forcefield of green energy a few feet above the ground
"What are you doing here?" Supergirl questions, jumping up to her feet
Willow looks at Supergirl, the green lines making their way towards her eyebrows and covering over 70% of her face and body before looking upwards. She levitates quickly into the air, pulling Reign up with her into the sky
"Green!" Supergirl yells, flying up after her to which Mon-El quickly follows along with J'onn in Martian form
But Willow was flying quickly into the air. She pulls to a stop with Reign still in the hold in the air. Then, Willow creates a large field of green wisps under her, blocking anyone from getting through. Supergirl and Mon-El are the first to hit the field and bounce off. Supergirl looks around for another spot to go through but there is none. Willow's green field was taking over the complete sky
"Green, what are you doing?" Mon-El questions as Supergirl frantically tries to break through the barrier in the air
"Green!" Supergirl screeches, upset
Willow throws her hands apart and away from her body, Reign falling from the ground but also being hit with a blast of green vapor. But this time when Supergirl slightly faltered in the air, the others knew this wasn't her normal green wisps, it was kryptonite
"No!" Supergirl yells, steadying herself and trying to bang against the barrier
"Supergirl, stop!" J'onn tells her, grabbing her in a hold. "You'll get hurt!"
"But she's going to die!" Supergirl yells, fighting against J'onn
Willow makes a dive towards Reign who pushes her away with a screech. Willow throws a forcefield around Reign quickly and her screech dies down as they bounce off the forcefield and are aimed to herself
Willow falls to the ground of the barrier across from Reign, weak and stumbling
Reign pushes herself off the ground, weak herself from the blast of kryptonite. "You think you can beat me?" Reign spits, steadying herself on two feet
"I don't need to beat you." Willow spits back on her hands and knees, breathing heavily. When she lifts her head to look Reign dead in the eye, it is noticed that the green veins are now covering the entirety of her body...and they're glowing bright vibrant green in the night sky. She pulls herself to her feet, the process taking a lot out of her as she coughs green vapor yet again. "I just needed to stall for time." She spits at Reign
Willow traps Reign in a forcefield once again and the two rise into the air slowly. Willow's body glows green and her eyes glow bright
In one swift move, Willow launches herself forwards at Reign who screams as the kryptonite forcefield drops quickly. As soon as Willow's body made hard contact with Reign's body, a green explosion overtook the sky. Everyone was thrown backwards towards the ground
A boom sounds throughout the city as Reign's body hits the ground on top of Willow's. A crater was created as both bodies smashed into the concrete below. Supergirl and Mon-El run over to Willow as J'onn checks on Reign
"Willow!" Supergirl screeches, shaking Willow's bloody arms. The girl was no longer covered in green glowing veins but her pale skin was covered in green blood with a heavy red tint
"She's dead." J'onn says, standing up from Reign's body
Mon-El looks over at J'onn but Supergirl never takes her eyes off of her friend. She puts Willow's head in her lap. Willow coughs out a sputtering green vapor as her eyes flutter open a slit
"Willow!" Supergirl breathes. "Oh my god...I told you not to be here..." Supergirl whispers through tears
"And I.... told you...you're my mission." Willow says through heavy breathing, her eyes fluttering closed as her head rolls to the side. Willow's body goes limp in Supergirl's arms as the girl cries for her friend. Willow's body sparkles with green before completely disappearing in a wisp of vapor into the sky and erupting gracefully...
...and in contrast to the devastating situation, the sky shone beautiful with green lights as if the Aurora Borealis had made an appearance down in National City California

As soon as Willow's body dissipated into green wisps, Marvin was standing at the ready to receive the powers with a device he may have stole from the DEO
The device was an energy grabber, which was perfect in the situation he was in with Willow. He had told her he figured out this part of the plan when going over it with her but in all honesty (though he'd never tell her) he was just going to wing it until he stumbled across a DEO room full of gadgets and devices
He sees the green covering the sky and then he sees the familiar green sparkling wisps that were Willow Green. He presses a button on the device and her green energy particles are trapped in the device
He presses another button and the particles are shot onto the ground. A few seconds later, Willow's body morphs into its real figure on the ground below
Marvin throws the device to the side, checking Willow's neck for a pulse. Nothing
Marvin gives Willow a few chest compressions. "Come on, Greene..." He mutters, pressing down on her chest. "Come on." He continues
When he checks her breathing and discovers nothing again, he sits back. He pulls out a syringe from his coat pocket and a vial of adrenaline
"I didn't want to use adrenaline." He says as he works to fill the syringe. "I wanted to bring you back with chest compressions." He talks as if Willow could hear him. "That way I'd know for sure if your tracker deactivated with your dead. Bringing you back medicinally... well, I'm hoping that your tracker will still deactivate." He says, throwing the vial to the side and placing the syringe over her chest. "But I need you back, Will, and this way has a 100% chance of bringing you back."
Marvin raises his arm and then plunges the syringe into Willow's heart. Willow gasps, her eyes springing open as she coughs for air
Willow tries to sit up but Marvin pushes her gently down. "Shh, don't move. You're okay." He tells her
"What...what happened?" Willow breathes, her battered body remaining still on the ground
"You won. You died." Marvin tells her. "And I brought you back to life. The plan worked."
"Good..." Willow whispers. "Good..." Her head rolls to the side and she passes out

....Late at night 2 weeks later....
A black car drives through the mountain terrain of California 2 weeks later. Marvin is at the steering wheel, his eyes glazed over, still processing what he had witnessed in the night sky 2 weeks ago when green erupted throughout the city. A figure lays unconscious in the passenger seat next to him, dirty and bloody and beaten
It was all silent until the figure next to him stirs. Marvin looks over to see the figure sit up in the seat
"Welcome back, soldier." Marvin says with a small smile, glancing over
The figure sits up with a groan and a cough. "That was a pretty neat trick, huh?" Willow groans, a hand going to her head and the other to her stomach as she looks over at Marvin
"Yes, it indeed was." Marvin tells her. "Rest up." He tells her. "A new mission is beginning." Willow nods and her eyes flash a vibrant green color. "I'm glad you were able to pull it off . You learned something from our training." Marvin tells her
"Well, I learned from the best." She says. "Now...what's this new mission?"
"Stolen from top secret Base Ops files." Marvin tells her, handing her a large file as he drives
Willow looks at the large file with large lettering of 'CONFIDENTIAL' on it. "I thought the whole point of me dying was to not work for Base Ops anymore."
"We're not working for them. As long as we stay under the radar...Base Ops will never find us." Marvin tells her. "We're working for ourselves this time."
"How so?" Willow asks
"You want to protect Supergirl aka Kara Danvers, correct?" Marvin asks
"Always." Willow answers
"Good." Marvin says. "I do too. Because as much bad as there is in the world...she is a hero that fights for the good. The world needs her here. And she needs you to protect her."
Willow flips open the cover of the file. "What's 'Liberty'?" Willow questions, reading the word off the top file
"Not what. Who." Marvin corrects her. "And they are the new threat against Supergirl. Buckle up, Willow Greene...this is going to be a crazy ride."
