Legolas POV ~

I looked around the room, my eyes searching for Emerin. My father wouldn't think anything of it if I spoke with her, right? I don't know what he would do if he knew that I found out about Emerin. There! I saw her. At the same moment, she looked over at me. As we made eye contact, she seemed to freeze. I started to make my way over to her, wading through the crowd. She looked absolutely stunning. The dress she wore must have been a gift from someone. Where else would she get it. It seemed fairly new, this must be the first time she's wearing it. Perhaps my father gave it to her, so that she had something to where whenever she came to his parties and feasts.

I finally reached her. Her long, wavy hair flowed down to her waist. Her dress trailed behind her. I looked up into her eyes that looked almost golden in the candle-light,

"You look... amazing!" my voice turned into a whisper at that last part,

She seemed shocked that I thought so, "Really? Why, thank you my Lord,"

I tried to seem as charming as her, "So, how do you like the feast? Are you enjoying yourself?"

"It's wonderful. The stars are so bright!" She looked up at the stars, she had an expression of wonder and excitement. I couldn't help but stare at her.

Even now, I thought of Tauriel. I had felt so sure that I was in love with her. However, right now, looking at Emerin, I realized that what I felt for Tauriel couldn't have been a love as strong as this. Did Emerin feel the same? I wonder how she would protect me if something were to happen right know. It doesn't seem like she has any weapons, As the thought crossed my mind, I saw the glint of a dagger that seemed to be strapped to her thigh, mostly covered by her dress. Is that the dagger that the dwarf gave her? The thought was upsetting. When I got a better look at it, I realized it was. Did she like the dwarf?

She looked back at me. I think she noticed my upset expression, she followed my gaze to her dagger, and a flash of realization came across her face, "I thought it was a pretty dagger. I do not take any liking to dwarves. However, they are known for being skilled craftsmen, and their weapons are quite formidable." She looked back towards my face with a sorry expression,

"No, no, it's alright, I was just observing it." I tried to lie. She seemed to see right through me,

"well I am hungry. I'm going to see what there is." She quickly walked away. Even though she seemed to be deciding what to eat, she was looking at me and my surroundings, probably assessing threats. She grabbed a small truffle, and delicately took a bite out of it.

I wonder where Tauriel is. I thought she was coming to the feast tonight. I started towards the exit. When I looked back to see that Emerin had disappeared. I walked down and as I was walking through the castle, I saw a figure near the cells. It was Tauriel. She was talking with one of the dwarves. I silently walked down and listened in on what they were saying,

"I saw a firemoon once." The dwarf started talking, "It rose over the pass near Dunland, huge! Red and gold it was, it filled the sky. We were an escort for some merchants..."

I saw a shadow pass near me, then I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked over to see Emerin, now fully dressed in her guard uniform, looking at me with a sympathy. She must have seen the pained expression on my face. I may be in love with Emerin but I still had some feelings for Tauriel. Tauriel was looking at the dwarf in a way that she had never looked at me. She seemed to be in love.

I walked away, with Emerin following me, like a shadow. I went to my chambers. I quickly closed the door. A few tears escaped from my eyes. I didn't want Emerin to see me cry. At least, not again. I felt a slight breeze and looked to my side, and there she was. She did not speak. She just wrapped her arm around me, and rubbed by shoulder, comforting me. We sat like this for a few minutes. When I was done crying, I looked back up at her. My vision was blurry with tears, but I think I saw a single tear roll down Emerin's cheek. She seemed to be so impacted by others emotions.

She quickly withdrew her arm from my shoulder and looked away. I heard some noises coming from somewhere else in the castle. Elf hearing. It can be such a pain sometimes to hear everything  that's going on. Both of us stood up at the same time. When I went to look at her to smile, she was already gone. I ran out of my room, and down the many stairs, until I reached the dungeons. The dwarves were gone. Had Tauriel freed them? No, because I heard Tauriel ordering all of the guards to go and retrieve them. I joined them,

"The dwarves escaped!" Tauriel was now beside me,

"Take these guards, I'll be back with more!" I said, and quickly ran to find more guards.

I found a few of them who were already coming to see what was going on, "Come! The Dwarves have escaped!" I shouted. We all made our way outside. The dwarves were in barrels, going down the river,

"Holo un neh non!" (Shut the gate) I told one of the guards. He blew the horn to alert the others to shut the gate.

Out of nowhere, a bunch of orcs came, and started killing the guards. Why are they here? I started killing orcs,

"Ah!"

I looked over and saw and orc slam Emerin into one of the stones. I watched as she crumpled to the ground. It looked like she was unconscious! The orc raised a sword, I was about to shoot it when Emerin swung her leg, knocking the orc over, and stabbed it with her sword, then turned around and shot three others that were advancing on her.

I continued to fight. I started to make my way across the river, using the dwarves as stepping stones, killing orcs as I made my way across. I reached the top of a hill and as I was busy killing one orc, another was coming up behind me. Before I had time to turn around, Thorin, one of the dwarves, threw an axe at it, killing it. I watched as all of the dwarves got away. As I was watching our prisoners escape, I heard a snapping noise and turned around to see that Emerin had blocked another orcs arrow with her own, keeping it from hitting me. She was about to kill it, when I stopped her,

"Emerin, Dar doh." (Wait), "Huno uno, oh ebo quin."(this one we keep alive).Emerin nodded her head, and grabbed the orc, keeping her dagger just barely skimming his neck. Tauriel came with us as we lead the orc back to the palace for questioning.

As we reached the palace, Emerin handed the orc over to Tauriel, because she was the Head of the Guard, and vanished again. I got ready to face my father.

Emerin POV ~

I followed Legolas and Tauriel through the palace. As I sat in a small crook in the wall, close to the ceiling of the throne room, I listened as the king questioned the foul orc. My eyes kept darting around the area, making sure no orcs had made their way into the palace. I felt very on edge considering that orcs had just recently gotten past our guards. I couldn't help but be worried and angry. How could our guards not see a group of orcs crossing into our lands, practically right in front of our palace! As I kept watch, I saw Tauriel advance on the orc. What on Middle-Earth was she doing?

"Tauriel, Leh goh! ohw hi." (Leave! Go now.) the king commanded Tauriel. I watched as she walked out of the main throne room,

"I do not care about one dead dwarf, answer the question. You have nothing to fear," The king pushed, wanting to know more, "Tell us what you know, and I will set you free." Knowing the king, he was probably lying. Not that I cared,

"You had orders to kill them. Why?" Legolas pressed, "What is Thorin Oakenshield to you?"

"The dwarf runt will never be king." the orc spat,

"King? There is noting under the mountain, nor will there ever be. None would dare enter Erebor whilst the dragon lives."

"You know nothing. Your world will burn," the orc said cryptically,

"What are you talking about? Speak!" I could see Legolas getting frustrated,

"Our time has come again. My master serves the one. Do you understand now, Elfling? Death is upon you. The flames of war are upon you," The orc started manically laughing.

Thranduil pulled out his sword in one swift motion, and cut off the orcs head,

"Why did you do that?" Legolas asked as he threw the he head away, "You promised to set him free."

"And I did. I freed his wretched head from his miserable shoulders." Thranduil walked over to the orcs shaking body,

"there was more the orc could tell us," Legolas looked up at his father,

"There was nothing more he could tell me." Thranduil started to walk away,

"what did he mean by ,'The flames of war'?"

I'm surprised that Thranduil had not told Legolas about that. The king used to teach me about every single war that had ever been waged in Middle-Earth,

"It means they intend to unleash a weapon so great, it will destroy all before it. I want the watch doubled at our borders. All roads, all rivers. Nothing moves, but I hear of it. No one enters this kingdom, and no one leaves it." After the king said this, he looked up at me, and gave me a meaningful stare. He wanted me to keep a much closer eye on Legolas. I nodded my head, and at that, he looked away.

I followed Legolas as he went to alert the guards to close the gate,

"Eloh wi nehn nuhn."(Close the gate) he ordered the guards, "tihro uh ger nihn hain. Nah ganeht, eh na gahn eht, ehn arahn."(Keep it sealed by order of the king)

"Mah nohs Tauriel?" (what about Tauriel?) the guard asked,

"Nah rohs en?"(what about her)

"Tih neh vehn ego, Nah gu eh neh gih. Eh nun endolen."(She went into the forest, armed with her bow and blade. She has not returned)

Legolas walked out, and went after Tauriel, with me close behind. Once we were out of the Guards view, I appeared next to him,

"Hello mellon."(friend) I startled him,

"Im worried for Tauriel, what is she thinking?" He looked very upset,

"I think..." I stopped. I knew why she had gone, and Legolas probably did too. I didn't want to upset him,

He looked at me and sighed, "She went to save that dwarf," He spat, "You know you don't have to come,"

"Actually, I have too. You do realize that when a great evil rises, I'm supposed to keep a closer eye on you, not let you go gallivanting through the woods, chasing after someone who is chasing after the great evil's target, right?" I looked at him and smiled.

He started to laugh, "Right. I forgot about that."

We kept running through the woods, following the river. Sometimes, when I looked back at Legolas, my heart seemed to flutter. After a lot of running, I finally saw Tauriel, standing at the edge of a river.

She turned around, aiming her bow at us, "Enganlenei orc,"(I thought you were an orc),

"Qui orh heem, dan gah neh."(If I were an orc, you would be dead) Legolas smiled, "Tauriel, you cannot hunt 30 orcs on your own,"

"She turned to him and smiled, "But I am not on my own,"

"You knew I would come,"

Tauriel shifted her gaze to me, "Yes, however I did not know that she would."

I looked her right in the eyes. She seemed to shy away,

"The king is angry Tauriel." Legolas started, "For 600 years my father has protected you, favored you. You defied his orders, you betrayed his trust. Dahn gloh nahn hi, neh boh en a tha."(Come back with me, He will forgive you)

"Ooh oh enathon, qui dahd hwenithon, owoh henathon hwim. The king has never let orc filth roam our lands. Yet he would let this orc pack cross our borders, and kill our prisoners." Tauriel was getting a little too bold. She was only saying this because that dwarf she loved was dying. Why did I feel like what she saying was a little true,

"It is not our fight," Legolas pushed,

"it is our fight! It will not end here. With every victory this evil will grow. If your father has his way, we will do nothing. We will hide within our walls, live our lives away from the light, and let darkness descend." She had a point, "Are we not part of this world... Tell me mellon, when did we let evil become stronger than us?"

I walked over to Tauriel and looked at her, "I will go with you."
