The second repressed by wave after wave
The third is prepared with spear and stave
Unremarkable ground soon to be hallowed
Ready to rest in graves cold and shallow
Recruits reel and veterans fall
Then comes the command to send all
Beneath armor and medals earned
Comes ferocity from the eldest now spurned
Pyrrhic whether by small or large
A generation lost in every charge
A life of service none of which are sorry
