Chapter 3

(Sky/Alan's POV)

“Alan?”

I froze from the name, that old name I threw away eight years ago when I wanted to start a new life, away from the demons that tried to bring me down from the dark abyss of depression and despair. The only people the know about my identity are Laura, my lawyer, and the people I left behind in Nashville and only Laura's the one who calls me Alan when we are definitely alone. But this man here, calls out my old name, yet I have no idea who he is. Somehow, he is familiar. His name's at the tip of my tongue, but what? Why is he so familiar? Who is he?

I shouldn't be thinking these thoughts. I have to get away from this man. NOW.

So I bit his hand and thrust my knee onto his crotch. The man crumpled over and I used that chance to make my escape. I leaped over the curled up man and ran towards the exit, but my arm was caught in a firm grasp. I was yanked back into a hard chest, my breath leaving my lungs from the sudden impact.

“Alan? Is it really you?” The man asked, as he crushed me against himself, squeezing the very daylights out of me.

“Let me go! I'm not Alan.” I gasped out as his arms tightened against me.

The man abruptly let me go. “You're not Alan?”

I took in much needed deep breaths and shook my head. “I'm not Alan Mr....”

The man opened his mouth to say something, but we were interrupted when someone else came into the bathroom. A sophisticated man dressed in a black business suit, stepped forward to the man. His blond hair was cut short, nothing hiding his stoic features. “Sir, Ms. Renolds is calling for you in your room.”

“Thank you. Tell her i'll be there in a few minutes.” The man said.

“As you wish sir.” The blond man left with a bow, as if it wasn't weird to see his, whoever he is, guy trying to kill me.

I shoved the guy as hard as I could and ran off, slamming the door open and running back towards the ballroom, full speed ahead. I didn't look back, even though I can hear shouting from behind. No way am I going to stop.

You know what? Screw the ballroom. Instead, I made a detour and ran out of the hotel. A blast of the chilly, night air almost made me stumble, but at least it cooled down my agitated nerves. I sucked in deep breaths and hugged myself, not from the cold, but from containing my panic attacking from roaring up. I can barely contain it now and I have to push it down. Calm Sky. You need to calm down. Think of good things. Puppies, kitties, your new sanctuary by the cliff side on the beach. Think of sunsets, big fluffy clouds slowly moving through the sky.

My erratic breathing slowly calmed down, my heart turning back to it's normal heart rate. I threw my sweaty head back and let the chilly air cool me down. I sucked in deep, even breaths and took in the San Francisco air deep into my lungs. Ahh, this is what I needed. I leaned back against the hotel wall and stared at the night sky, watching as stars twinkled on the inky black sky.

Calmed, I went back inside. My eyes darted everywhere, wary of another little incident with another scary, but hot dude. Yeah, as you can see, this is my love life. I find someone completely hot and oh so yummy, and all I can think about is bad things from my nightmares. I can't get a guy at this rate. Does that mean i'll be forever alone? Maybe I should get that forever alone face mask or something. Oh, and pets. Lots of pets. Like a lonely psycho gay old man rocking in his chair back and forth all day.

Right when I got inside. I was hounded by a group of guys, all who wanted a piece of me. Me, being well me, I freaked out and ran away. Oh yeah, the pets thing is starting to sound really good. Does that mean my sex will consist only of my hand, a tissue box, and gay pornos? I can see it now....

“Little Cloud! I'm so happy you're here!”

I turned and smiled, hugging Laura as she charged at me. “It's been a while.”

Laura rolled her eyes. “No kidding. I haven't seen you in four months. That's too long to not see my Little Cloud.” She reached out and poked my cheeks, making kissy faces. “And you sure are little. Just the way I like you.”

I pouted at her. “Don't bring that up. I hate being short and stop poking my cheek.”

Laura didn't listen to me and poked my cheeks more. “They are like mochi. So soft and squishy.” She suddenly placed her cheek on mine and rubbed them together. “Ahh, so nice.”

I slapped her until she finally let me go. “I'm twenty-four years old Laura. Stop treating me like a kid.”

Laura grinned and took a step back, examining me from head to toe. “You sure look great Little Cloud. The designer really knows her stuff.”

I smirked and elbowed her softly on the arm. “Yes she does. She's also the best godmother ever.”

We both laughed as she my offered elbow and hooked it with hers. We made our way to the ballroom, talking about what's been happening, laughing and enjoying each other's company, but I couldn't help but feel a sense of dread about what happened a few minutes ago. Who is that man and why does he know my name? I have a bad feeling about this, a really bad feeling.

The party continued forward. I can already see buzzed people mingling with others and the Rydia aftermath. Oh boy, from the looks of it, Rydia has her name all over it. It's a good thing I have money for bail this time. Always be ready for any situation. I spotted a drunk Rydia all over the security guy, who's fighting off her advances. But I can tell it's a losing cause and he'll cave in about three minutes. Tops.

Laura followed the direction of my eyes and smirked when she saw Rydia's scene. “That girl is just crazy.”

I raised an eyebrow at her. “Who's calling who crazy?”

Laura rolled her eyes. “I'm not crazy. I'm..... eccentric?”

“Is that a question i'm suppose to answer for you?”

Laura playfully glared at me. “Stop being such a smart ass.”

“Well I can't stop being smart, but being an ass comes with the territory of being smart.” I replied back.

Laura punched me on the arm, really hard. I rubbed my arm and frowned. “Owwwww!”

Laura smirked and pulled me into the throng of party goers, all wanting to know who I am. I didn't answer their questions. In fact, I just stayed quietly next to Laura, who was flirting with a man who is very handsome. I checked him out from head to toe and mentally approved. Sexy brown tousled hair, glittering light gray eyes, and a charismatic smile that brought out dimples to his manly face. He wore a white suit that showed off his physique, but not enough so that when it's peeled off, then the surprise will be awaiting you. Oh yeah. Nice pick Laura.

“Oh yes, I forgot to mention something.” Laura abruptly said in the middle of a conversation. She pulled me up front until I was in the middle of the group. “Do you guys like the new outfit I made for this season?”

Everyone circled around me and I couldn't help but be uncomfortable with all the eyes on me, scanning me from head to toe. I felt like I was being violated, and I think some of them wanted to do just that. I gulped as people commented about my attire, some even telling me to turn around a few times, stopping when they wanted to examine some parts a bit more.

“Wow, it's very interesting. I love the spider web design made by the rips of the cloth. And the way you held up the rips with clothes pins, as well as small silver bars and thin chains makes it look fabulous.”

“The leather is very form fitting, but the cuts on the thighs and knees are amazing. There are enough holes to make it look ravished, but not enough to show a lot of skin. The boots go really well with the entire thing. Belt buckle straps mixed with criss cross thin chains and laces. You really outdone yourself this time Laura.”

“And the model you picked out is perfect. Innocent, small, youthful with a haze of sadness in his big blue eyes, but something sees awfully familiar about him. Where have I seen him?”

Laura gave them a cheshire cat grin. “I'll give you a hint. Try thinking back eight years ago.”

The group was silent, thinking, when it all hit them. That was when things went a bit crazy.

“Oh my, you're the boy on the poster eight years ago! I've been looking forward to meeting you all this time.” One of the ladies said. She took my hand and shook it. “It's so nice to see you in person and I have to say, you are even more gorgeous in person than on the poster.”

I didn't even have enough time to form a blush before I was complimented by the next person. “You are so adorable! If I were a boy, I would so rape you. Mmmm, nice soft flesh. Oh wait, you're a boy. Well, that doesn't matter. I would rape you anyways.”

Why is everyone saying they want to rape me?!

A man, who is high in the good looking scale winked at me and licked his lips. “If you want, I can rape him for you.”

Now my face is a permanent blush. It'll takes weeks for it to fade away. I ducked my head down shyly and looked up when another person held out his hand. His eyes widened and he blushed as he stared at me up and down, like he wanted to devour me. I stopped myself from taking a step back because of the intensity of his gaze. “I'm Jack Kellens. Nice to meet the model that helped Crucified Rose raise its ranks in the fashion industry.”

I lifted my hand, hesitating when it was about an inch from his. I gulped and placed my hand in his. I tried my best to hide the tremble from the fear of being touched by someone as big as him, but he noticed. He gently squeezed my hand and lifted it up to give the back of my hand a small, brief kiss. My mouth flew open and I was too shocked to move.

Jack smiled at me and bent down a bit more. “May I have your name?”

I opened my mouth. “S-Sky G-Gray,” I stuttered nervously. I can feel everyone's eyes on the two of us and I have to say, it's not a good feeling at all. The complete opposite of good.

Jack held my hand a bit firmer. “What a lovely name for a beautiful man.”

Oh my gosh. Is it hot in here or what? “Umm... T-thank you.” Someone can fry an egg on my face.

Everyone was watching our little exchange and I can't help, but feel like a science experiment. I don't like the attention and I can tell that Jack understood. He grasped my hand and pulled me towards him, not touching, but we were closer than before. “Excuse me everyone, but Mr. Sky and I need to have a little chat.”

I can hear the laughter slowly fade from behind as Jack pulled me out of the ballroom and into the secluded part of the lobby. Two plush cream colored couches took up one corner, a potted tree standing tall right at the corner. The lights were a bit dim and it was far away from the entrance and the reception table that it gave us a bit of some privacy.

I sat on one of the couches, my body sinking a bit from the plush, buttery cushions. Jack sat right next to me and crossed his leg, turning to me. “Are you alright now?”

I nodded. “Yeah. Thanks for taking me away from the spotlight there.”

Jack shrugged and relaxed against the couch. “No problem. I understand how uncomfortable it is to stand there and listen to all these strangers talk about you and examine you from head to toe. Don't see why anyone would like that crap.”

I relaxed a little and agreed. “That's one of the reason's why I didn't want to be at his party. I love Laura and I am so happy that her new fall line's successful, but that wasn't enough to bring me here.”

Jack watched me curiously. “So why is it that you are here?”

“I told my friend Rydia that I would be her date and I don't like breaking promises.” I fiddled with one of the many leather bracelets on my wrist.

“The small blond chick in the strapless red dress right?” When I nodded, he continued. “I saw her jump the security guy manning the entrance of the hotel. She did a few.... things, and they both left, her dragging him to the elevators with a card in her hand.”

I shook my head and sighed as I reached for my phone. Sure enough, I got a text from Rydia half an hour ago. Gonna jump Mr. Sexy Security Guy. Not coming tonight. Drive home safely. Byes :D

I placed my hand on my face and rubbed it. Wow, should have seen this coming. She's probably banging the poor guy's brains out in one of the hotel rooms here. Dude's going to get burned when she's done with him and jumps to the next guy. And she's not even vicious. She's just, as she quotes 'a person who's looking for her rightful soul mate to be with forever' to justify her jumping from one guy to another. But at least when she's with someone, she's devoted to that person for the amount of time they are together. Then she dumps them as gently as she could and goes to find the next potential soul mate. I'm going to need to find the Rydia first aid kit. At least I get to meet another good guy. Rydia always has this sense of finding really good, protective guys. The only bad this when they use their protectiveness over me. They always cling to me, whether they have a girlfriend, married, engaged, or not.

I checked the time and gasped. “Oh no. I completely forgot.” I scrambled out of my seat and headed for the door.

Jack grabbed my hand before I could take three steps. “What's wrong?”

“I need to pick up Mochi from the sitter.” I told him as I tried to yank away from his grasp, not liking how his skin contacted with mine.

Two months after I left Nashville and all of my friends to live with Laura in New York, somehow everything that has happened sunk in and I was left in a horrible state of reality crashing onto me like Wild E. Coyote when he's smashed with a safe that came from the sky. Laura brought me to a special doctor to check and see what's wrong with me. I was diagnosed with a serious case of Chiraptophobia (fear of being touched) and Arrhenphobia (fear of men).

It took me years of therapy to finally be where I am now. I can stand to touch girls now and some guys, but only a select few. My tolerance with crowds is a lot better than it was before the therapy sessions. My fear of guys didn't really change much. I don't begin to hyperventilate when a guy's in the same room as me. My panic attacks whenever a guy touches me is less frequent, but sadly, my tolerance for touch with men has not improved. I still get the sense of throwing up when a guy touches me and panic attacks are almost a given. I cringe and shy away from men who are taller and bigger than me. Considering how I'm only 5'3, I would say that almost all grown men and boys would freak me out.

“Mochi?” Jack asked questioningly.

“My pet. Now I have to go pick him up or else he's going to be frantic.” I tugged my hand of his grasp, but he held true, keeping a firm grip. My heart beat faster, my breath coming in short gasps as he continued to touch me. My palms turned sweaty and I had to push down another panic attack. Don't freak out. Don't freak out. Don't freak out....

Jack scratched the back of had and blushed, a tint of red on his cheeks. “I was wondering if I can have your number.” My jaw dropped from his question as he continued on without noticing, “I really want t o get to know you and I can already tell that you don't like me touching you, but if you can give me your number then maybe we can have.....dinner together sometime.” He finished, his eyes on me, hopeful.

I smiled, despite my almost panic attack. I want to have a love life, a partner who can accept me. Why not try it out with Jack? He seems sweet and a good guy. Heck, he saved me from hyperventilating in public. And maybe I can finally get on with my almost nonexistent love life. I nodded and took out my phone, handing it to him.

His smile was amazing, dazzling and something that took my breath away. Holy cow, did I do that? If I did, then i'm so happy I said yes, if only to see his smile. I may not be sexually attracted to him yet, but I do hope that we can get to that part where I can finally trust someone with my scarred body, my nightmares, my secrets. And hope that he stays when all of my wounds are revealed. And be able to feel what it was like to be touched intimately again by someone who could cherish me.

Jack took my phone and dialed in his number, placing himself in my contacts. His phone rang a few seconds later. He took it out and saved my number before he bowed down and lifted my hand, kissing it tentatively. “I'll call you later tonight.”

I nodded, my face flaming hot. He finally let go of my hand and winked at me, before heading back to the ballroom, leaving me here to stand like an idiot. I shook my head to clear out the shock and made my way over to my car. During my drive, my mind wandered on what happened today.

I went to a party with my crazy friend who's banging the security guy's brains out, met a chick who thought I was flirting with her boyfriend which was not true, see the chick dump that said boyfriend fro being unfaithful, get asked how it's like to have butt sex, was attacked in the bathroom by some hunky scary stranger who knows my name, was turned into a display dummy to be examined by a group of strangers, was saved by a yummy man, and exchanged numbers with that said man. Wow, for only a few hours, this was pretty eventful.

I thought about the stranger in the bathroom. Do I know him? He does seem oddly familiar, especially those eyes. Those piercing steel gray eyes that penetrated the shields that concealed my heart and stared into my soul. They widened in recognition, my name coming out of his lips as if it was natural. My heart fluttered from the memory and I placed my hand over my heart in surprise. Each beat felt rusty, like it was trying to beat to a rhythm that has been forgotten. How strange. And what's even more strange is the way I reacted to his touch. I may have been terrified out of my mind from some scary hulk dude grabbing me and hugging me towards him, but I never admitted how it felt strangely familiar too.

I shook my head and sighed. I'm just tired. I didn't get enough sleep last night from all of the nightmares flowing through my mind like a horror flick. My past is not all flowers and bubbly unicorns. It's full of blood, tears, betrayal, and other horrifying things that would make the most callous man flinch. Sometimes, when my nightmares get too bad, I stay frozen on the bed, unable to move from the fear of them returning. I can't breathe, can't move and I wish for it to go away.

At least it wasn't as intense as it was before. I use to wake up in a fit of screaming hysteria and Laura had to soothe me back without touching me. In the dark, you can't see a person's face, but the hands that slowly come towards you. Hands that harm, that pin you down, that inflict the worst things a person should not have to feel. I can tell that it's hard for her, which is why I willingly went to the therapist, who prescribed sleeping pills that prevent me from dreaming. I still take them, but I forgot to yesterday. How stupid of me.

I stopped in front of a small brick house. The place was two stories high with a small staircase that lead to the sleek wooden door that's the entrance. The lights are on, seeping from the windows, which are barred in case of any break ins. The curtains that concealed the windows were white and lacy. It had a homey feeling to it.

I got out of my car and went to the door, knocking on it and waited. The muffled soft thumps grew louder and suddenly, the door opened. “Sky!”

I smiled and opened my arms for Lydia's hug. Lydia squealed and hugged me. We were the same height so it didn't feel awkward at all, and she's also one of the people I can trust with touching me. Her honey blond hair fell down her body like a waterfall, just above her pert bottom. She has a tiny figure, with a modest bosom and a thin body that made her seem fragile. Her big, bright green eyes stared at me with love and happiness.

“Hey Lydia.” I greeted, hugging her back while walking us both into the house.

Lydia took a step back without letting me go and stared at me up and down. “Wow Sky, you look really hot. Who's the lucky guy?”

I sighed. “You're twin. I promised her a date to this party tonight and I just left there not long ago.”

Lydia shook her head in disappointment. “My sister.”

I nodded in agreement and whistled. A few seconds later, a flying squirrel came gliding into the room and landed in my arms, squeaking in happiness. I stroked his belly as it latched its little paws and legs onto my hand. “Hey Mochi. Miss me boy?”

Mochi climbed up my arm to rest on my shoulder. I chuckled. Mocha's a Japanese dwarf flying squirrel, a small tiny little gray and white fluffball. I found him a two months ago as a little baby while I was visiting the animal patrol center to do check ups as a favor for one of the employees. There was this case of negligent owners who had an illegal amount of pets in their home and they were all starving and living in filth. I helped out with the baths and checked their health, gave a few of them shots, and even helped prepare the food for them all, but there was this pull towards a small little pouch and I opened it to find little baby Mochi, curled up and asleep. It's eyes opened sleepily and locked with mine and I knew, we were going to be the best of friends.

So I adopted him and took care of him, feeding him through a bottle for a few weeks until he grew out of it and ate nuts, tree leaves, fruit, and buds. He really grew attached to me and was always frantic when i'm not with him for a certain amount of time. And it's really cute how he always stays in my pocket whenever we go out. That's the reason why I always carry either a small pouch for him to sleep in, or big pockets.

“Happy to see me aren't you?” I used my finger to pet his furry little head. He nuzzled his cheek into my palm and took hold on my hand, sniffing my palm. His whiskers tickled, making me giggle.

Lydia awed at us. “You guys are so cute. I wish I had a pet like Mochi, but you know how bad my schedule is these days. At least I have two days off.”

Lydia works at as a waiter at a popular bar downtown. With the bar being so popular, there's bound to be tons of people to wait over and some of them are just plain rude and persistent. Lydia took self defense classes, but she doesn't use them on the customers or else she would be fired. I asked her why she didn't quit, and she said 'it pays well and I get really good tips.'

Sometimes, I do worry about her. Fortunately, she has a loving boyfriend who takes care of her and makes her life a whole lot better. But he's at work now with a group of his co-workers on a project for the company he's working for. I don't really know the details, but it's not as if I really need to know now do I.

I nudged her playfully on the shoulder. “If you want, you can come over and we can hang out. I can even cook up some food.”

Lydia raised an eyebrow. “What about work?”

I shrugged and winked. “I have a few days off. The boss man told me and few of the guys to take a breather when we finished patching up the load of abused and emaciated fellas from a certain douche bag owner.”

If you guys still don't know about what my job is, i'm a veterinarian working at the local animal hospital. I also take a few house calls and help out around the zoo and the animals shelters around San Francisco. Most of the places related to animals know about me and i'm always welcomed with open arms, especially since animals love me.

“But if there's an emergency, they'll give me a call, then back to work.” I continued.

Lydia scowled. “Those bastard owners need to fuck off and die. Who the fuck keeps a whole bunch of poor animals, only to let them starve and live in a disgusting environment? The world is full of messed up shit heads.”

I nodded. No kidding, and i've met these shit heads before. “Well, go get your things and stay over at my place and watch movies. I really need to hang out with my buddies.”

Lydia giggled and headed off to her room for her overnight bag. Lance, her boyfriend, doesn't mind her staying over with me, especially since he knows i'm one hundred percent gay. In fact, he always jokes that he's the one that's going to have a problem with me than Lydia, which isn't true at all. I never go for guys who already have someone. Never. I hate people who do that and I won't be hypocritical and do it. No. They are off limits.

Lydia rushed back with her bag over her shoulder. “Okay. I'm ready.”

Mochi decided to glide with us out the door. Le landed on my head right when I unlocked the car. Lydia locked up her door and slid into the car, laughing as I drove back to my place, telling her about her sister's whereabouts. She shook her head and sighed.

“Poor boy's going to be added to her collection of broken hearts.” Lydia stated sadly.

We took the elevator up to my apartment. I went into my room for blankets and pillows, while Lydia ran over to my shelf to see what movies we should watch. After deciding what to watch, she helped me out with the preparations, dumping the floor with the many blankets and pillows. I headed over to the kitchen, which was also a part of my living room with a counter separating the two, and brought out the movie stash of snacks.

I jumped into the shower and washed myself quickly, then changed into a giant old t-shirt and holey sweats, my hair all loose and free and wet. Lydia already changed into her overnight clothes and we plopped ourselves onto the nest of blankets and pillows, Mochi joining us by crawling over my stomach while I let him eat some seeds I already brought for him to munch on during the movie.

At the end, Lydia and I were exhausted, yelling at the dumb bimbos who kept going into the wrong rooms, only to be killed by this psycho that appears out of no where. Who the fuck goes into a freaking pitch black room while its raining with no weapon, alone? These people. Then the blood splatter comes like fireworks and we being the audience, groan at their stupidity.

My phone rang by the table, where I dumped it and I reached out to answer it. “Hello?”

“Sky? It's Jack.”

I gasped, causing Lydia to look my way, curious. I blushed. “H-hi.”

“What are you doing?”

I looked around. “Uhh.. I just finished watching a movie with a friend and we're going to go to bed now.”

“Oh really? Did you have fun?” He asked.

“Uhh.. yeah I did.”

There was an awkward silence, until Jack broke it by asking, “Would you like to have dinner with me tomorrow night?”

What? “Umm.. Uh... Huh?” I sound like a total idiot, but this caught me off guard.

Jack chuckled. “Is that a yes?”

I glanced at Lydia, who was watching me with a gleam in her eyes. I knew that gleam and once when I hang up, she'll pounce on me for answers.

“Yes.” I whispered shakily, but loud enough for him to her.

“Great. I'll pick you up from your place and drive the both of us there. Can you tell me your address?”

I told him in a soft, shaky voice, blushing and stuttering along the way.

“I'll see you tomorrow night. Sweet dreams Sky,” Jack said huskily in a sexy, low voice.

I blushed. “S-sweet dreams.”

I hung up just in time for Lydia to pull my arm towards her. “Spill.”

I did. I told her about the party, excluding the little bathroom scene and about Jack. When I finished, she hugged me enthusiastically, “Oh my boy is all grown up and finally on a date with someone.”

I pouted at her, embarrassed. “i-i could have gone on a date with someone a long time ago.”

Lydia raised an eyebrow. “And why didn't you?”

I blushed. “Never mind.”

Lydia let me go and clapped her hands. “Oh my gosh, can I pick your outfit out for your date tomorrow?”

I shrugged and nodded. “Sure.”

Lydia laughed and we rolled around in the blankets until she finally fell asleep. I got up and went over to the bathroom to take my sleeping pills, chugging down a cup of water before falling back into the blankets to sleep.

I really hope everything goes well tomorrow.

Eni: Oh Smores, i'm sorry you were replaced, but Alan's finally moved on and found Mochi.

Smores: Squeak!

Eni nods, understanding: I know and he's happy now.

Random kid: Mommy, whys she talking to the floor?

Mother: Don't look at her honey, or she'll give you her stupid.

Eni rolls eyes and brings out glitter, throwing it at them: I'm throwing my stupid at you!!!!

Mother and child screeches, running away.

Eni chases after them, throwing bejewels and party strings at them: Oh yeah! You can't run away for being stupid!!!!!
