- Jacob's POV- (While on the Swings)
Fuck! I wanted to go punch that pair of siblings because they had hurt Jasmine so much. I came just imagine her fear stricken face when the used to tease her. If they were here I would have already started a fight with them. I bet they were just jealous of Jasmine. Jasmine is perfect in every way possible and they just couldn't handle that.
I knew that this was the right time to ask so I slowly pulled out the small bundle of Jasmine flowers I had in my jacket. When I went to pick of Jasmine's little brother Max, I came out the car and went into the school to pick him up. Sophia's class didn't have school today. But anyway, on my way back to the car I had secretly stopped to pick up these beautiful Jasmine flowers. Now that I pulled them out of my jacket, I thought about it and it was kinda lame. But I just went with it!
I smiled as brightly as I could've and said "Jasmine, will you be my girlfriend?"
After a few agonizing seconds she finally responded "Yes"
I could handle the wave of emotions that I had just encountered. But I set that all aside as I grabbed ahold of the rusty chain that was on Jasmine's swing and pulled her towards me for a kiss. Out of all the kisses I have shared with whores, sluts, college students, random girls etc. this has got to be the best kiss I've ever had before. Just as we were about to deepen it we heard a panicked cry.
"JASMINE, JACOB!" I heard what I assume to be Jasmine’s brother’s voice yell. Our heads whipped forwards to the source of the yell and we start to run towards him.
"It's Sophia. She fainted!" he said and it was only then did I realize my little sister laying on the ground. My eyes widened at the site and I quickly picked her up bridal style and carried her to the car. Jasmine opened the back door for me and allowed me to place Sophia in. Sophia sat in the back with Max, while Jasmine and I sat in the front. I could feel the color drain from my face as I thought about all the negative things that could've caused this. Suddenly I felt a warm hand grab mine and interlaced my fingers with theirs, which instantly made me feel 100 times better. I glanced to my side at Jasmine and she gave me a reassuring smile to which I returned with a shaky one. 5 minutes of silence and I couldn't hear anything but the soft inhale and exhale Jasmine was doing. It kept reminding me I had to breath.
Finally, we arrived at the hospital and I carried Sophia inside while Jasmine and her brother followed behind.
“Excuse me, we need a doctor. My sister fainted” I said and looked down to the small girl in my hands for emphasis. The lady I was talking to was just looking at her computer screen, not even bothering to acknowledge me.
“Excuse me!” I yelled demandingly and she looked up bored. However when she caught a sight of me, the blonde haired blue eyed lady, probably in her early twenties, pulled down her shirt to reveal her non existent cleavage and batted her eyelashes.
“How can I help you?” she said with a smirk and from my peripheral vision I saw Jasmine tense up. Do I detect jealousy, huh?
“Yes, you can. My sister fainted and we need to see a doctor” I said and she looked down at my sister who was in my arms. Then she faked concern, how can I tell? Let’s just say she isn't a very good actor. She shot out of her chair and ran around the desk she was sitting behind so that she could come out with us. When she came out I can see that she was wearing a tight pencil skirt with massive heels. She gasped really dramatically and put her hand on my shoulder. My first thought was that her hand wasn't as warm as Jasmine’s was.
“OMG! Is she gonna be ok?!” she screeched and I nearly busted a eardrum. Not only that, she started trailing her finger down my arm and I looked to my side to see Max grimacing because Jasmine was cutting off the blood circulation to his arm, as she tightened her hold on his arm, when she saw what this lady was trying to do. Did I mention that she was also glaring at the lady with so much anger it could kill someone. I picked her hand that was on my arm off of me and pushed her hand back towards her and she giggled.
“I would be able to know if she was ok, if you actually CALLED THE FUCKING DOCTOR!” I spat in her face and she had a look of surprised that would've probably made me died in laughter if I wasn't in this current situation.
“Oh ok” she said meekly and scurried back behind her desk. She typed doe shit on the computer and called someone.
“Go to room 21” she said and looked up. When she FINALLY saw Jasmine she glared at her, and I mean glared hard. I smirked proudly.
“By the way, I’m taken” I said and looked at Jasmine who has just transferred her looked from a glare to her beautiful smile when she heard my words.
“Let’s go” I said and we took off to room 21, leaving the secretary who was now giving us venomous looks. When we finally reached the door that said room 21 on it we opened it and stepped in. I was immediately hit with the scent of rubbing alcohol. I placed Sophia on the bed that was in the room and took a seat on a chair. Jasmine took a seat on the chair next to mine and Max had taken the seat that was the closest to the bed. I was mindlessly bouncing my leg up and down in anxiousness and I didn't notice until Jasmine put her hand on my leg. Even though I was wearing jeans the searing heat of her touch reached my skin.
“I’m sure she’ll be alright” she said with a slight smile and I nodded.
“I hope” I answered and placed my hand on top of hers. Suddenly the doors opened revealing an old man with salt and pepper hair wearing a doctor's coat and held a clipboard. He looked up from his clipboard and assessed the situation.
“Hello, I am Dr. Alec Gadley” he said and held out a hand for Jasmine and I to shake
“Whats her age?” he said and used his pencil to point towards Sophia.
“11” (AN: Max is 12, if you forgot)
“Ok” he said after writing down something on his clipboard
“Now. What happened?” he said and I looked at Max with a raised eyebrow
“Oh! Uh, we were playing on the slides and then we were walking to the the benches to sit down but then I heard a thud and looked behind me and saw she was on the ground, passed out.” Max said nervously and the doctor nodded and wrote some other things down.
“Alright. Well, I have to do tests but they'll be done in 30 minutes or so. In the meantime, you could call your parents and inform them because I’m assuming you didn't do that.” he said with accusing eyes and I nervously chuckled
“Right. I’ll do that” I said quickly and he laughed lightly while shaking his head.
“But, you guys can't be in here. I recommend going to the cafe or something. My nurses and I will need all the room we can get. This room is pretty small. Oh! I need your number so that I can call to inform you when it’s done, please” he said and I nodded. After handing my number over to him I stepped out of the room with Jasmine and Max.
“Hold on. I have to call my parents.” I told them and Jasmine nodded and ushered me with her hands to do it.
I dialed my mom’s number because I am too lazy to call my dad AND my mom. If I just call my mom, she’ll call my dad and I won't have to.
“Mom?” I asked as the ringing stopped
“Yes. Jacob? Honey?” she said
“Uh, I’m at the hospital” I said and was immediately bombarded with questions
“WHAT? WITH WHO? ARE YOU OK? WHERE’S SOPHIA? WHAT HAPPENED? DO I HAVE TO COME? HOW COME YOU'RE CALLING ME IF YOU HURT? WAIT, IS IT SOPHIA THAT’S HURT? OH GOD, ANSWER ME!” she started yelling and I had to pulled the phone away from my ear.
“I am with Jasmine, her brother Max and I’m not hurt. Sophia fainted-” I said before I was cut off
“FAINTED!” she said incredulously and I rolled my eyes
“Yes, fainted” I said
“Oh my goodness!” she said
“Anyways….they're doing test and we’ll be done soon.” I said
“Ok. I really want to come but I have a very important meeting. If its something serious then I don't care if I get fired, I will come. Call me if its something serious. I'll tell your dad now, ok?”
“Ok” I said
“Ok, love you” she said
“Love you” I said and hung up
I walked back to Jasmine and Max, and then smiled
“Lets go to the cafe” I said and Jasmine smiled and nodded
We went to Panera Bread and I bought a cookie for Max, and Jasmine and I a coffee. She wanted to pay but I would let her and now she was ignoring me.
“Babe” I whispered in her ear and she turned away from me
“Fine, you leave me no choice” I said and started tickling her and her beautiful giggles filled the air
“STOP!” she yelled and a few people looked at us from across the room disappointingly, but we ignored them. I finally stopped and she tried to calm her laughter. Max was looking at me with a smirk on his face. Probably remembering the time he had confronted me on liking Jasmine when I had gone over to his house. It turned out he was in fact right. I did like her. Maybe more then like.
“I hate you!” Jasmine yelled at me and hit me on the arm when she recovered from her overdose of laughter
“No you don't” I smirked and she rolled her eyes and scoffed
“Yeah. I do.” she said and I laughed
“Suuuure” I drawled and she chuckled
“Its true” she said and sipped her coffee
My phone started ringing and I pulled it out of my pocket and answered
“Hello?” I said
“Yes. I have called to inform you that the tests are over” the man which I recognized as Dr. Gadley
“Ok, Ill be there” I said and hung up
“Guys, the tests are over” I said and Max stood up quickly
“WELL?! LET’S GO!” Max practically yelled and dragged us both along
We finally reached room 21 and stepped in the room. Sophia was now awake and sitting on the bed looking around.
“Sophia!” we all yelled as we saw her and we all ran over to her and gave her a group hug
“Hey guys” she said and blushed when Max held her hand. I smirked at the gesture. Just the the door opened and in walked Dr. Alec Gadley.
“Everyone, please. Take a seat.” he said and gestured to the seats. We all took a seat and I was holding Jasmine’s hand as we awaited the news.
“Sophia has Arrhythmia” he said and Max gasped
“Oh my god!” he said
“You dont even know what that means yet, dummy” Sophia said and laughed lightly as she hit him upside the head.
“Geez” Max said while rubbing the back of his head
“Anyway. As I was saying, An irregular heartbeat is an arrhythmia also called dysrhythmia. Heart rates can also be irregular. A normal heart rate is 50 to 100 beats per minute. Arrhythmias and abnormal heart rates don't necessarily occur together. Arrhythmias can occur with a normal heart rate, or with heart rates that are slow. Arrhythmias can also occur with rapid heart rates.” he explained and I nodded
“Is it serious?” I asked worriedly
“No, some symptoms are...Palpitations, a feeling of skipped heart beats, fluttering or "flip-flops," or feeling that your heart is running away, pounding in your chest, dizziness or feeling light-headed, fainting, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, weakness or fatigue. Treatment depends on the type and seriousness of your arrhythmia. Some people with arrhythmias require no treatment. For others, treatments can include medication, making lifestyle changes, and undergoing surgical procedures. In this case, it isn't serious so she won't need any treatment. If anything happened just come back, ok? Have a good day! Feel better Sophia!” he said and bid us all a good bye before leaving.
“Well, at least it’s not that bad” Sophia said and we all turned to look at her and chuckled
“Yeah, you're right” I said and got up to ruffle her hair.
“Let’s go home” I said to everyone and they all nodded including Jasmine who looked at me with a soft smile as I put my arm around Sophia’s shoulders. And man, was that smile beautiful.
