FOR THE WHOLE ENTIRE DAY, SKYLAR has been sitting right next to meredith's bed. the only time she'd leave was whenever she needed to use the restroom. she didn't even bother to eat. which had everyone who cared about the girl worried, especially jackson
night had fallen and jackson was now off call. he slid the glass door and walked into meredith's room. skylar turned to face him as she heard the door open "y-you told me that she was awake one minute and the next she just collapses. jackson, i need you to be honest with me. is this... is this some kind of surge? like my dad had?" she asked, her heart beating, absolutely afraid of his answer
jackson sighed, he looked at his niece. he noticed her tired puffy eyes "i-i hope not" he said truthfully "but to answer your question, we don't know yet" he said, watching her eyes fall in sadness "come on, let's get you home" jackson said in a soft voice
skylar looked back to meredith, she hesitated on leaving, afraid that this could be the last time she'd see her "n-no it's okay. i'll stay here" skylar declined his offer
jackson sighs "genevieve called me, she did say this would happen" he said as he thought back to the conversation he had with his niece's mom "but she made me promise her that i'd look after you, meaning you ate and slept. so come on, i promise you if anything happens and i'm paged, i'll wake you up" he told his niece
"fine" skylar mumbles, she gripped meredith's hand, giving it a small squeeze before getting up to follow jackson out of the room

FOUR DAYS. IT'S BEEN FOUR DAYS since meredith grey has been put on the ventilator. everyday skylar has been in her room, and during his breaks, jackson would come visit the girl and make sure she'd eat something before he had to go into another surgery or consult
it was six in the afternoon when skylar's covered hand was intertwined with meredith's hand. the blonde girl was dozing off, her head resting on edge of the hospital bed. she came up wide awake and alert when she heard choking. her eyes laid on meredith who was struggling to breathe and speak, seeing as the tube was placed in her mouth. skylar immediately gets up from her chair and walks out of her room yelling out for nurses
seconds later, they were rushing in to help meredith. a alert and worried jackson ran in just seconds after "w-what happened?" he immediately asks
"i-i- she's awake" skylar said with tears in her eyes
jackson immediately ran to help the nurses, seconds later jackson was questioning meredith "mer, how do you feel?" he asks as he checks her
"spectacular" she mumbles sarcastically, before laying eyes on her goddaughter "sky?" she croaks out in surprise
skylar felt a real smile tug on her lips, a breath of relief was let out "it's about damn time" she chuckled softly as she felt tears of happiness spring in her eyes

𝙳𝙴𝙲𝙴𝙼𝙱𝙴𝚁 𝟸𝟺, 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟶
IT WAS CHRISTMAS EVE AND SKYLAR was still in seattle. she didn't want to leave until she knew meredith was perfectly fine and was tested negative for the virus. she has been staying in her old seattle home, amelia thought it was best if zola and mini derek bailey should stay with skylar so she wouldn't be alone in her home
she looked up at the clock in the kitchen and it was 3:35pm, she had just started to cook. she decided on making the same tamales her mom always makes on christmas. along with a apple pie
a knock startled her "do you want me to get that sky?" zola questioned as she comes into the kitchen
skylar shook her head "no, i'll get it" she said as she placed down the corn husk she had in her hand. as she walked towards the door, zola went back into the living room with bailey. she opened the door and her mouth parted and eyes widen "oh my god" she let out a small chuckle "what are you guys doing here?" she questioned as her eyes fall on genevieve, jensen, daniella, zayn, the twins, and charlie
genevieve smiled as she walked forward to hug her daughter "we couldn't let you spend christmas alone" she smiles
"it's the twins first christmas, it wouldn't be the same without you" jensen spoke up as the two baby car seats were placed beside him "and lover boy over here invited himself" jensen joked as he patted charlie's shoulder
"as he should" daniella grinned softly
skylar smiled as she walked in front of charlie and immediately wrapped her hands around his neck "i've missed you" charlie grinned as he whispered into her ear
she pulled away and quickly pecked his lips "missed you too"
"okay, okay, okay, let's go inside" jensen said, playfully rolling his eyes
throughout the rest of the day, everyone helped out in the kitchen. zayn and daniella were in charge of making the apple pie, while genevieve, skylar, and charlie were in charge of making the tamales. jensen on the other hand was on baby sitting duty, much to his dismay
by7:30pm everything was set and ready. jackson called and said he wasn't going to make it, considering the hospital was very busy and packed. amelia on the other hand picked up zola and bailey after her shift
"babe, come on" genevieve called out to jensen who was in the living room watching home alone with the sleeping twins in their baby bassinet beds
"i deserve some pie after babysitting for almost five hours" jensen mumbles as he walks into the kitchen to take his seat

after dinner, the family spent the rest of the night watching christmas movies up until midnight. as genevieve announced for them to open up their christmas gifts, daniella spoke up "wait! zayn and i got you all something and we want you to open it first"
jensen was about to shake his box, but daniella immediately told him not to. he gave her a skeptical look "okay on the count of three, you guys can open it" she continued
"1...2...3" zayn counted down
genevieve, jensen, and skylar began to open their box. while charlie stood beside skylar, with a grin
"oh my god. are you serious?" genevieve questioned, tears began to fill her eyes
"no way" jensen spoke up looking at the couple
the boxes were filled half way with white confetti, each box had a ultrasound picture, baby brown booties, and a white little onesie that read "baby malik coming september 2021." genevieve's box on the other hand, also included two clear blue pregnancy tests that read "pregnant" along with daniella's handwriting engraved "can't wait to meet you grandma! ♥︎"
jensen and genevieve immediately walked up to the couple and congratulated them. skylar looked up to a smirking charlie "you knew about this?" she asked, he nodded
"i sure did, god mother" he nudged her, skylar grinned as she looked back at her box that had daniella's handwriting engraved "can't wait to meet you auntie. but, i have a question, will you be my godmother? ♥︎"
daniella walked in front of her sister "so, what do you say?" extending her hand towards skylar's
skylar happily stood up and wrapped her hands around her sisters neck "yes, yes, yes. a million times yes" she grinned
daniella leaned down towards skylar's ear "you know, if you marry charlie, he could be the godfather"
