A/N: This chapter has been revised!
Aered's POV
Do you know what I love more than anything? The one thing that keeps me sane?
Baking!
It's my lifeline, the one thing that makes me forget everything bad. I will always turn to the love of my life when I'm down. The feeling of sugar melting in your mouth is heaven.
But now... I need it WAY more. That's why I'm baking like a madman when my shop is closed and not open as it should be. I need time to get my shit together.
I finally figured out why they say "The fewer idols you have the fewer disappointments." I sigh, looking at the small box in the trash bin next to the counter before going back to pipping my cake in front of me.
I am a 26-year-old redhead man who spends his time baking and who wastes his time trying to ask out a snobby girl. That girl? Jane McCoy is a true goddess in the baking business and the smartest woman I've ever known. Her creations are amazing and they are out of this world, her attitude matches that as well, The out of, that world part, not the amazing creation thing.
And not in a good "Out of this world" way either!

I saw the time and grabbed my shoulder bag before gently taking the small box of chocolate swans I had made, and letting sit in the fridge yesterday, before I bolted out of my little shop, locking my door on the way out. Why I'm so happy you might ask? Well, today is Jane McCoy's birthday. She is turning 30 and is holding a party for the baking district in our small town, which is so sweet. Now why I think I'm the only one extremely happy about this, is because I've been in love with her for a while now. 2 years to be exact, we are friends, I think, after all of the events we hosted together and times we baked for each other we've made a small bond.
Don't at me for that.
I wanted to show her how I felt at her party, which is why I made these chocolates. Who doesn't love chocolate and dark chocolate at that? The way it melts in your mouth, being bitter and sweet at the same time!
I can't say my cakes or other pastries are as good as hers, but I think I have some talent. Even if it is very little. The only thing I've done worth talking about is how 'Hall Corporations' orders from us about twice a month. They are pretty big in selling and managing businesses, which is something I can sort of do. They do order a lot though so it's great income that goes towards paying my staff and ingredients.
I reach the steps of the tiny, yet elegant, building that is always rented by us on special events.
It is one story high but has white walls a dark brown roof and white trim.
Walking in you see the walls are decorated with rose gold banners and the tables have rose gold and white tablecloths, alternating down each row. I looked around in awe at the room as I walked towards Jane who was standing near a white table filled with table decorations.
"Hi, Jane!" I smiled stepping up to the small stage she was on. "Hello, Aered. No! Put the red roses on the white table and the white roses on the rose gold table!" She screamed at the man decorating the tables before turning to me with a huge smile on her face. "Sorry, I've been at this all morning." She rubbed the back of her neck before clearing her throat and tightening her ponytail which looked like it hurt, to be honest.
"You worked hard on this. Why not take a break and I could help them set up?" I say helping her down the steps to sit in a chair in the corner. "That would be very helpful." She says sitting and taking off one of her heels to rub her ankle. How do you women wear those? Regardless I smile and get to work on helping the others set up the tables and move the plants around in the corners or next tables.
It took like 2 hours to finish and I was tired. I took my tie off somewhere in the middle of cleaning up the plastic and paper that had blown everywhere from the vents.
I sighed walking over to a chair that had my tie on the back of it with the chocolates. I pulled it around my neck and slouched in the chair with the box in hand catching my breath.
"Aered! Stop laying around, we have a party to start." I sigh standing up and grabbing my tie. "Sorry, took more than I thought to set up."
Can I just say how beautiful this woman is? She is wearing a tight rose gold dress with white angel wing heels, the dress nearly matching her skin and fitting with her black hair and bright green eyes. I was positive I was staring, but who wouldn't?
Jane walks over to me and reaches up to grab my tie tying it for me. For her being in four-inch heels she was still smaller than my 5'8 in height." Thank you," I say feeling my face heat up as she turns away to welcome people arriving at her party.
She had a small English Cafe help with food while her own business did her birthday cake. I pitched in on some desserts as well of course.

Whoo, boy! This party was full of drunk people. It's been about 3 hours since the party started and I'm guessing that people only came for the booze." Aered! Come drink with us!" I look at Mickey who is completely drunk off his arse. He runs "Harmoney", which is a classic American bistro. I shake my head 'no' before moving further back in my chair and watching everyone else. I don't drink, never have, never will. That stuff tastes gross and it messes with your brain and makes you do dumb shit. I held the small box of chocolates closer to me as I was waiting for Jane to finish talking with her employees near the small stage. I guess about her cake and how it was going to be served.
Just a guess.
I feel a body fall next to me in a chair grunting before sitting up quickly, which scared the hell out of me. I look over and see Jane looking like a mess.
"Are you okay, Jane?" I reach to give her my glass of water, which looked like she needed it." I'm fine, these heels are killing me, how come you don't drink with everyone else?" she says taking my offered drink and gulping it down. "I'm not a drinker," I say looking at everyone drunk off their arses." Jane?" I shift in my seat to face her chair." Hm?" She places the now empty glass on the table I got it from and looks at me.
I hold the chocolates out to her and she raises an eyebrow at the little box." I- um, their chocolate swans, I wanted to know if- you would, like to go to on a date with me? I kind of wanted to ask you earlier but you were busy."
I finally dared to ask! Holy shit that was scary!
I come to my thoughts when I hear Jane chuckle before bending over and putting her heels back on, which I didn't notice she took off." Cute, but you're not my type Aered. I'm not into gingers, I think they are not that smart, I'm not a big fan of your accent, it would give me a headache hearing it for too long, and that shirt and tie color doesn't match." she says laughing.
The fuck? I can't help being ginger. I love my accent, and I thought my light gray shirt and peach tie looked fine with the theme.
After that, she left leaving me feeling not so in love anymore. She didn't like me because of my hair? I know she said something else but come on!
It's either Americans or her being a bitch about it.
I never thought she would say something too blunt to my face. AND LAUGH!
I left the party early eating the chocolate swans she rejected while on my way home. They taste good, should have taken them because now I'm going to get fat off your gift. Hmph.
.~.~.~.
That's how bad my day was.
I turn to look at my floor mirror and grab a strand of my hair twisting it in my index finger and thumb. Was my hair that bad? I can't help that this is what made others say I look more like my mother. I sighed placing the pipping bag down and taking a rest. Luck is not on my side, huh?
I don't want to look at chocolate again today.
