I sighed in relief as I collapsed onto my bed after finally finishing what felt like hours of packing. Today was the day, today was finally the day and I was over the moon excited to finally be starting my college journey at Florida A&M University. A part of me was sad because I was leaving my whole life behind, but the other part was more than ready to start my new life in Florida. The sound of light knocking snatched me from my thoughts and I sat up in my bed seeing my best friend Key standing in the doorway.
"Hey babe" a cheerful Key said as she skipped over to me.
"Hey" I lightly snickered standing up and pulling her into a side hug "I still can't believe you're not coming to FAMU until next year" I added slightly rolling my eyes.
"I just need to take a year off to decide if that's actually what I wanna do" she pointed out "Plus I brought you a gift" she said holding out a gift bag.
I took the fancy looking black bag from her hand setting it down on my dresser and begun rummaging through it like a 5 year old on Christmas morning. The first thing I pulled out was a cute picture frame with a collage of pictures of Key and I, the next was Key's favorite stuffed monkey.
"Key?" I turned to her scrunching my brows together.
"I want you to have it that way you'll never forget me" she said giving me a sweet smile.
God, I love this girl.
"Key I would never forget about you" I pointed out and she just nodded.
I dug into the bag one last time this time pulling out a white envelope with the words 'To my bestie 4 restie, Sevy" written on it.
I opened the envelope and pulled out a card, the front of the card read "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard -Winnie the Pooh" I poked out my bottom lip as I looked up at Key, and she motioned for me to continue. I laughed a little and opened the card to read what she wrote "I will miss...your stories, your jokes, your hugs & smiles, your laughter, your 'beautiful' singing (hence the sarcasm), your bright and beautiful personality and your ability to always brighten my day. What I'm going to miss most of all is you, I'm gonna miss you Sevy and I don't know what I'm going to do without you, my best friend. I love you."
A tear escaped from my eye slipping down my cheek and I wiped it away as I looked up at Key.
"I love you too and I'm gonna miss you too soo much" I said pulling her into a hug.
