The inside of your eyelids stung, it was as if you were staring straight at the sun except you weren't. You stared intently at the screen of your laptop as you were entirely engrossed with the game, which was called none other than Undertale.
Who knew what time it was, you weren't even bothered to check. It must've been late in the night however as your room was filled with enough silence to hear a pin drop. You sat at your desk for hours on end, the screen being the brightest thing in the room. If not for the screen illuminating the nearby surface around you it wouldn't be possible to see right in front of you. You would be sitting in nothing but a dark and empty void no question about it.
On the screen cast a crew of lovable characters, all sprites, and you knew deep down that they weren't real. But that didn't stop your unyielding storm of emotions you felt for these pixelated characters.
One character you quite took to liking was Sans, who was a pun loving skeleton, he slept all day at his post. He even gave you hot dogs that one time, on top of all that he loves his brother, he's practically perfect. Plus there's also that mysterious vibe he gives off, as if he has much to hide.
Nostalgically you moved your player over to interact with the sans sprite, to which he told you a pun then went back to sleep at his post, typical sans. It brought back memories of your first run through of the game.
The music was a soft melody, accompanied by a 2D winter wonderland. You were currently in Snowdin, at least your character was. You pouted your lips and took a moment to rest your face in your hands, rubbing your eyes unceremoniously.
A notion of how completely captivated you were with this game crossed your mind, yet you knew deep down it was impossible to genuinely be a part of it. In fact you wanted more than anything to be a part of it. This thought disturbed you slightly at how easy you accept this alternate reality almost as your own. That if it were possible you would up and abandon your family in a split second, just because of some game.
You lifted your head up once more, and took a moment for your eyes to properly adjust to the hazy glow. Once they did you immediately recoiled in shock as you were right back at the beginning. Your sprite sitting on the yellow patch of flowers. It made you panic, had you unknowingly reset the game once more? did you press a button on accident or get defeated in battle without your prior knowledge? All these questions hung unanswered in the chill unforgiving air. It wasn't that big of a deal however, when it comes down to it, it is just a game.
Once you settled down from your initial shock, you decided to go on with the game as if nothing had happened, it could go without saying that this was somehow a mistake on your part and you'd rather not acknowledge this mistake. It could've also been a temporary glitch in the game, or a phenomenon that only happens once in a blue moon.
You moved your sprite over to the next room, met Flowey and allowed him to go over his spiel of resentment towards the entire human race. Then proceeded to complete the rest of the Toriel with ease. You exited the ruins after convincing Toriel you're ready to leave the nest, and proceeded with the hugging of goat mom. After that you moved on to the next locaction which was Snowdin, a twig snapped, and you know the rest.
It might just be your imagination, but you felt extremely chilly, as if you were so immersed with the game that you needed to wear a winter jacket to stay warm. It might be a draft, a window must be open somewhere. You quickly accepted the chill and moved your sprite onwards.
You must have stayed up for quite a while, much past your bedtime. Before you knew it, it started to get lighter out, light crept in from between the blinds reminding you of the concept of time. You shifted your gaze to the upper right corner of your screen only to be horrified that you hadn't got a blink of sleep and it was already 6am.
