Chapter 2 - Pickled Everything

I sighed as i entered the detention room. Scowling, i flopped into my chair and rested my head on one arm. stupid Caden. his comment had brought Miss Warple over to our desks, and then Caden had laughed at me when i was sentenced to detention after school. he'd teased me about it the whole day, even at lunch, ignoring my death threats and rants.

"Curse you, Caden." i took out a notepad and began drawing his deaths as well.

"SHUT UP AND FACE THE FRONT!" Warple yelled. i jumped and quickly put my notebook away. "YOU ARE ALL HERE BECAUSE YOU ARE THE SCUM OF THE EARTH, AND DESERVE TO BE TRAMPLED UPON LIKE.......THE SCUM OF THE EARTH!"

i rolled my eyes. then i noticed Caden, smirking, and watching me through the window. i flew the bird, and then turned back to Warple.

she was combing her hair down with her hands. "Everyone can write out the Behavior Code seven times."

the door suddenly flew open and Tim and Johnny stood there, snickering. "WE'RE HERE MISS!" Johnny sang, and then spotted me. he nudged Tim and they sat on either side of me.

"Hey Jack, what're you in here for?" Johnny asked. Johnny and Tim were the trouble makers of our group, besides me and Luke, of course. Actually, everyone was, besides Fred, but Tim and Johnny were the best.

i showed him my book. he laughed and we  bumped fists. "Way to go, Jackson!" he said, using my pet name. i grinned at him.

"Hey dude," i said. "You scared the life out of me s'morning. Luke said you fell down the old well behind ag. made me late for music."

"Oh, well sorry for, uh, falling down the well, but not?" he made it sound like a question.

"No sweat," i laughed. I realized Caden had left, and smiled. now he couldn't bother me anymore. Detention passed slowly, Tim and Johnny and I all chatting and laughing and grinning at an angry Miss Warple. when we were dismissed, we three bolted out the door, and headed to our lockers.

Unsurprisingly, i saw that Ben was STILL here, and surrounded by girls. Tim ran over to chat with Ben, and Johnny and I headed to the carpark.

"So what do you make of the new kid?" Johnny asked, arms folded on the roof of his car as he looked over it to me.

"Caden? Don't get me started."

"I thought he was alright. Bit cocky for a newbie, but aren't they all?"

"Exactly my point. you all are."

"Hey!"

"I dub thee, Mr Cock." i smiled. "Still, you're not a jerk to me. not like everyone else outside of the gang is." i narrowed my eyes.

"I heard you were coming to the Friday party?"he said, changing the subject.

"Yeah. guess i got out of the hag's clutches." i sighed, dramatically. Johnny rolled his eyes.

"Well, i don't have any chicks to bring. if i don't pick one up before then, mind if i join you and Luke?"

i rolled my eyes and got in my car. "Keep away from me with those ditzy blondes of yours!" i called out my window, before driving off. But i remembered to start the car first this time.

"How was school?" Mum asked me, when i waltzed into the kitchen to grab an apple.

"Hasn't burnt to the ground yet, unfortunately."

Mum laughed. my parents were really easy going; let me do whatever i liked, pretty much, so long as i didn't get caught up in the law. they even knew that i went to the pub, had good friends there themselves. but they weren't like hobos or anything, and barely ever got drunk. my mum had a record for not drinking one drop of alcohol, and my dad only ever got wasted when he was really uptight.
