The Rivers Edge

I had arrived in Riverdale, but as I drive past Sweetwater River I notice most the town is gathered there. I grew curious so I removed my headphones and shoved them into my pocket "mom can you stop please?" I asked "sure hunny." doing as I ask, she stops.

I threw open the door and got out, shutting the door behind me , I ran over to see what all the commotion is, i then saw the authorities searching the river, and crying on a rock on the edge of the river I spotted a gorgeous red head dressed in a white dress, makeup ruined because she had been crying.

I turned around to see my mother calling me back to the car. I turned around once more to the girl and then to my mother, I noticed the red head had looked back at me before, you can still see the tears in her eyes that's how much she was crying... "Y/N!" I heard my mom yell signalling me to get back into the car. I did so plugging my headphones back in to ignore what just happened.

A few minutes later, I had arrived at my new house at 112 Elm Street. My mother gets out the car. She was opening the back door for my younger sister Lily , before doing so she gave me the house keys to open the door.

I had done as she wanted, opening the door, lily runs straight upstairs to pick her bedroom, I walked out to the car to help my mom unpack the luggage, as I move everything into the house I check the time and tell my mom. "It's 7:30, its been a long drive, I don't feel like cooking right now, would you mind going to the local diner to pick up some food?" She asked, I sigh "sure, I'll pick up some food", I replied I was a little bit annoyed I just wanted to sleep. I was still curious about what was happening at the river earlier....

I had just arrived at Pop's Chocklit shoppe, the local diner, I pick up the food I was asked to pick up. I heard someone Shouting but not that loud "hey! New girl right?!" My head turned to see a blond girl with a pony tail I walk over to her and her friends she is sat with a raven haired girl and a red haired boy, "yeah...?" I responded. "Come sit with us!" She said all cheery, "only for a little bit...." I responded with a sigh

The blonde girl introduced herself "My name is Betty Cooper! And this is is Archie Andrews" she points the red haired boy "and this veronica lodge" she points to the raven haired girl.

I recognise the name 'lodge' and i then realised that my mother had told me about her father Hiram Lodge who was 'the devil incarnate' but I decide not to mention it. "My name is Y/N, nice to meet you!"
"I'm supposed to give you a tour around school tomorrow" Betty said sweetly. I check the time, "I should head home, otherwise the food will get cold, I'll see you guys soon!" "Ok, I have to go too, what street do you live on? We can walk together!" Betty says. "Um, Elm Street, you know it?" I ask her. "Know it? I live on Elm Street too!" Betty replies. "Really?" I asked finding it hard to believe. "Yeah, 111 Elm Street." She replies.

Me and Betty both gather our belongings and leave Pops, it only just occurs to me, "wait, did you say 111 Elms street?" I asked her making sure I definitely had heard correctly. "Yeah" she confirmed. "I live at 112 Elm Street" I tell her. We both chat about our hobbies, likes, dislikes, ectra. She even let it slide about how she used to have a 'small' crush on Archie which was not at all surprising...

Without realising how long we had been chatting for we come to see Elm Street straight Infront of us sadly, as we walk down the street to our houses I waved to Betty saying goodbye and just before I open my door she asks, "want to walk together tomorrow?". "I'd love too!" I responded walking back inside.

When I get inside my mother asks "did you get lost, hunny?"  "no" I responded shrugging my shoulders "I sat down and made some new friends, one of them lives next door" my mom looked at me "Hal Cooper's daughter?" "She said her name was Betty cooper, so probably" "I bet you spoke to Fred Andrews kid, FP Jones' kid and Lodge girl too"I was so confused

"who is FP Jones?" I ask as if I think she is going to give me an answer. "Bad news" she replies taking the bag of food out my hand and taking it into the kitchen to plate it up, "call your sister down, please" my mother asks me. "Lily! Dinners ready!" I shout up the stairs, a few seconds later I hear footsteps running down the stairs, I walk into the kitchen pick up your plate and sit down in the living room with it, within 10 minutes I had finished my food, "that's the best thing I've ever tasted!" I say surprised thinking it would taste like all the other burgers and fries I have had before. My mother says "It's the thing I've missed the most about Riverdale...maybe the only thing".

Wondering why my mother didn't like Riverdale much I went upstairs to my room (that I liked very much, it wasn't too feminine and wasn't too masculine, it was just right) I get ready to go to sleep, but I start thinking about what had happened at the river and the red haired girl crying and does it all add up to why my mother hated Riverdale so much and why she left all those years ago as soon as she graduated.

Hours pass and I was still awake, unable to sleep and lost in my thoughts, I suddenly realise that if I want to get to school on time and be able to walk with Betty, I need to get some sleep, I block out the thoughts that's would keep me awake thinking and eventually fall asleep.
