Chapter 2

POV - Ella

It's 4pm and I'm on my way to babysitting the twins: Taiye and Kehinde.

I've been working there for a week now and most times I trek there cause there's a shorter route from the restaurant and it saves me the cost of transport.

my stomach growls signifying that I needed to eat, I dipped my hand into my back pocket and realised i had only 200 naira left.

I almost feel like shedding tears knowing fully well madam Jane cheated me by not paying me. I leave her and Mr tobi in Gods hands.

I guess I'll just have to wait till I get home for dinner.

I increase my pace not wanting to take a chance of letting the twins get home before I do, they're going to scatter the house if that happens and well, I wasn't up for that.

I arrive at the twins place just in time as their school bus just arrived. "Good afternoon aunty Ella " they say in unison.

"Afternoon boys how was school today?" I say staring down at them,

they looked awful, I sincerely feel sorry for the people washing their clothes.

"We're fine " they reply at once and run inside the house,

I rolled my eyes, here we go again.

" Please drop the vase its not a toy * I plead to Taiye as I spot him holding the particular vace his mum said to never let them touch.

How he got on top of the shelve and brought the vase down remains a mystery to me.

I moved towards him and snatched it before it slipped from his hand, pheww!

"Don't you ever touch this again " I scold him,

" don't you ever touch this again " He mimics me and run into their room.

disrespectful child I yell after him.

Afterwards I heard a horn from the gate, that must be their mum but she was quite early today, usually she comes back around 6 and its not yet 5.

I move to open the gate for her

" Welcome ma " I greet her bending slightly,

"Thank you my dear " she replies looking exhausted from work, it must have been hectic.

I help her with her bag and we walk into the house.

" Where are the boys?" she crashes into the couch,

" They're in the room ma let me get them for you "

I walk into their room and there I saw my dear twins sleeping like the peaceful children they were, I'm sure you know I'm being sarcastic,

Taiye literally slept on the floor. his bed was just by his side but no he choose to sleep on the floor.

I lift him up and dump his body on the bed returning to the sitting room

yeah I'm not that nice.

" they're asleep ma " I tell their mum,

"Ohh that's nice, then you can go home Ella,"

" really? " I ask in relief,

"yes dear, I'll take care of them" she says smiling at me.

" Thank you ma " I say and leave the house..

" Hey!" my best friend, ' Kofo ' screams into the phone.

I decide to call her and pay her a visit since I still have about two hours before I go to the bar.

" Hey love " I smile at her excitement of hearing my voice,.

"OMG! you witch I was just about calling you I've good news for you, can you come over! !" she says in one breathe

" Actually that's why I called you I wanted to know if you're back from work so I could come see you, what's the good news? "

" you forgot my leave started today " She says disappointed

" Anyway you'll get the details when you come, I'll be waiting " she says then hangs up.

I wonder what she wants to tell me.

I can't believe I actually forgot she told me she'll be going on a 2 weeks leave.

"Ewa! " Kofo hugs me as she opens the door me.

she lived in a small but comfortable apartment on her own, her dad just retired, so he moved to Kaduna with her mum but she refused to go because according to her she was born in the city so she stays in the city, her parents are quite wealthy so they got her a good job here in Abuja with a nice apartment and a car.

we've been friends since high school and right now i feel like she's the only friend I got, she's the only one who calls me by my native name, always so dramatic,

" Hey love " I say as we walk in, I just realise how much I missed her, it has been almost a week since we last saw each other.
The longest time I think we've stayed without seeing,

" You workaholic you forgot about me and I tried calling you but you weren't answering my calls " she frowns at me.

" I'm sorry, I've been so busy these past few weeks but I'll try to make more time for you I promise "

I pat her head and she chuckles

"well..."

" what? " I give her a questioning look,

"well... "

" what is it Kofo?" I ask in an amusing tone,

"well..."

" Oh God! just say it already! "

"I got you a job " she murmurs.

" What?! " I hold her hands in shock,

" speak up dear " I pet her like a baby

"Well... "

" Kofo please for Gods sake speak before I go crazy! " I yell

"Well! we're going to be seeing each other every day now because I got you a job at the company where I work!" She screams dancing,

" wait how!? Where? When? "

At this point I was very confused.

I know she has my CV and other details but I remember trying to apply in that company two months ago but I was told they weren't collecting applications.

"Calm down girl, I'll tell you all about it" she walks into the kitchen,

"what will you like to eat first? I was thinking we could make jollof rice you know, to celebrate, and look I bought you fanta" she grins at me,

considering I might most likely pass out now, I grab the cold fanta and gulped it down.

Oh lord! that felt good.

" I'M SO FREAKING HAPPY! " I squealed

I look up and see Kofo looking at me with wide eyes,

"Are you okay friend?" She asks like I just ran mad,

" No " I answer honestly unable to contain my joy.
