I spent a week trying to think about how I should tell my parents, it added more stress then I needed. Then one Saturday night I finally decided that I was going to tell them.
I walked into the livingroom they could already tell something was on my mind.
"What's up son?" My father asked with a concerned look.
"I need to tell you guys something."
I saw panic in my mothers eyes
"Well whatever it is we are here for you"
I took a deep breath.
This moment changed my life forever.
"Ever since I was little I knew something was different about me." I began, "I found out what it was."
I look towards my mother who was clutching her fist as if she was ready to hit me if I said one more word, then I look at my father his face was calm as if he had no worries in the world.
"I-- I think I'm transgendered, I want to be a girl."
Anger and fury filled my mothers eyes.
"TRANS??" She shouted, "YOU ARE NOT TRANS AND YOU WILL NOT BE A GIRL!"
My father grabbed my mothers hands.
"Now now honey it's okay, he's still human let him be what he wants."
"NO!" She pushed him away "YOU!" She pointed at me "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! YOU'RE A DISGRACE TO OUR FAMILY AND TO GOD! DAMN YOU TO HELL!"
Tears filled my eyes. I fell to the ground.
"Mother, please don't do this." I choked back my tears, "I just wanted to be myself."
She grabbed my shirt and dragged me to the door.
"DONT EVER COME BACK!"
She then pushed me out the door, I fell into the sidewalk. My father tried to walk out and see if I was okay but my mother slammed the door shut.
I sat on the edge of the sidewalk, crying. I didn't know where to go. Just then my father walked out and sat down next to me.
"Are you okay?" He asked, his voice was gentle and calming
"No, why would I be? Mother hates me." I began to cry again.
"Oh she doesn't hate you. She just needs to get use to it."
"What if she doesn't?"
"I'll take care of you." He put his arm over my shoulder, "Do you trust me?"
I looked down and began to think about all the times my father has protected me and cared for me. But then a question came to mind.
"Why didn't you get angry?"
He looked around him then back at me and said "Because I knew this day would come." He's voice became serious, "I promised myself that I would accept you no matter who you are or what your dreams are, because as your father I should love you no matter what."
I hugged him and began to cry this time tears of joy.
"Thank you." I whispered.
We walked back inside father told me to go my room and stay there till he's finished talking to my mother.
I can't remember how long I've sat there, waiting, wondering if everything was okay. Eventually they both came into my room.
"I'm sorry for yelling at you." My mother said
"I won't kick you out but you're not going to become a girl as long as you live in this house."
I couldn't look at her.
"Do not make our family look bad with your nonsense." She walked away
I started crying again my father sat by my side.
"I'm sorry that was the best I could do." He said.
"Don't be hard on yourself. At least I can almost be myself."
He nodded and left my room.
I looked up and I whispered
"Do you love me even though I'm different?"
