Logan locked his attention towards Rory, who is now fully consumed by her presentation. He must admit, she's making a great sell on herself he might would have accepted her if he hadn't already did. Yeah, you heard that right. She didn't have to pitch so hard, because he had already decided to hire her. Not because of their history, although he had learnt a great deal about her professionally during that time, but because he had been following her works since then and he always admires them. If then she was great, now she's fantastic. She captures significant sides, deep enough to matter, but not too deep to disturb. She highlights the perfect parts, and engage the readers' attention with the best hooks. And her background experience is perfect match with the project. Easy peasy, no comparison, she's the one. Logan laughed inside on the last sentence. He used to think that too, only for a completely different context. He shook his head off that thought and tried to concentrate on Rory's speech again.

She's still talking with that fiery passion, the one she uses whenever she's talking about something she truly believes in, like this right now, just some random things like her pro/cons list, or her pop tart for breakfast argument. Logan noticed her winced during speech for several times now. She only does that when she's distracted. Why is she distracted? Is he making her distracted? Or maybe she's just nervous, she always does for something she wants badly. Maybe he has to stop her and tell her that the job is hers, but he's still enjoying this. He decided to give himself another minute. It has been so long. Hearing her voice, listening to her orations, he missed it.

He shook his head again.

Where does these thoughts come from? He thought that she has no effect on him anymore now, that he agreed his staffs' recommendation to offer this project to The Rory Gilmore. She had made herself some admirer in the publishing world, especially after she received the Most Promising Young Writer Award by the Times Magazine fall last year. In fact, that news was the first news that he heard on his first day working in this New York office.

He had just transferred back from the London Headquarter to begin the transition of the CEO position from his father to him following the old man's heart attack. It felt weird to be back in here again, training for the position he had dreaded many years ago. Of course he had been ruling the London office, but it was different. This office was always his father's throne, and now he's sitting on it. Maybe he'll buy a new chair.

His relationship with his old man was never smooth and loving, but he respects him. Sure there were times when he did all the opposite of what his father told him to, but he ended up well. The woman talking in front of him now played a really big part in those developments too. He was a, how would he describe his past self, a spoiled kid. Or, as Rory had called him once; a jerk, an ass, arrogant, inconsiderate, mindless, fratboy, lowlife, butt-faced, miscreant. You see, he was a mega rich well-known publishing company's heir who knew nothing but spending money and chasing girls, while she was an ambitious, study-holic, nice girl who is determined and works hard. They met at Yale, she was a sophomore when he was a junior. She had been challenging him from the start and he had always been attracted to her. She already had a sharp journalistic instincts back then when she revealed the campus's thousand years' secret society which he was a member of, although part of that accomplishment was because of his attraction to her, which resulted in his willingness to include her in the club's activities. She challenged him to be better, to pay attention to his school works and responsibilities in the paper, and eventually inspired him to leave his casual dating lifestyle to a one woman man kind of life, with her of course.

He remembered the night they shared their first kiss, she initiated it, he was too afraid of taking chances with her. He knew she was a girlfriend material which wasn't his kind of plate, but how could he resist when she was so close, smelled so good, and he was tired of fighting the urge to kiss her. So he gave in. And he was right, although she promised no strings attached, she still got herself attached, and took him with her. He refused her plea to become just friends again and pledged himself to be her boyfriend.

It was the happiest three years of his life, minus the one time they broke up due to his stupid jealousy to her ex, but they got back together and went on strong. She filled the space in his heart that he didn't even realized was empty. She taught him how it feels to be loved, which he didn't feel very often, even from his parents. Even when he was sent to London for the first time after his graduation, their love overcome the long distance. She even stood by him during the stressful days of failed business deal, lifted him out of his self pity with her tough love, and showed him hope again.

That was what convinced him that their love was extraordinary. That was what convinced him that he never wanted to loose this girl. That was what convinced him to propose.

So he did, proposed to her, on her graduation day.

And she rejected him. Broke his heart to a million pieces.
